David P. Corradino
DUNWOODY, Ga. - David Paul Corradino, 36, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000.
He was the son of Marilyn Corradino of Dunwoody, Ga., and the late Michael N. Corradino. He was a 1982 graduate of Winnacunnet High School. In 1983, he moved to Orlando, Fla., where he worked with McGregor Printing. He moved to Dunwoody in 1993 and was awarded a distributorship with American Business Forms, which he ran and developed successfully.
He enjoyed boating, camping, and participating in a wide variety of outdoor and sporting activities with family and friends. He was an enthusiastic coach and participant in his children's activities.
He was the husband of Charlene (Nicol) Corradino.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth, 7, and Stephanie, 6; a son, Michael, 1; his brother, Michael L. Corradino and family of Merrimac, Mass.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins from New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at St. Elizabeth's Church on Route 1A in Seabrook.
James T. Meads
HAMPTON - The funeral for James T. Meads, 66, of 190 Kings Highway, was held Saturday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home. The Rev. Carroll Moore, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiated. Nelson K. Ward was organist and Mary Louise Arcidi was soloist. Burial followed in High Street Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by Rev. Moore. Pallbearers were Steven Lemanis, William Quick, Thomas Evans, Michael Murchie, Jack Houle, and Alan Mears.
Levi H. Barker
STRATHAM - Levi H. Barker, 87, of Stratham, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at his home after a lengthy period of illness.
Born June 16, 1912, in Stratham, he was the son of the late Frank H. and Laura (Snell) Barker. A graduate of Exeter High School, he lived most of his life in Stratham. He attended the University of New Hampshire, where he studied agriculture.
For many years, he and his brother were the owners of the former Barker Brothers Farm. After his retirement from farming, he worked for the Wiggin Tire Co. in Portsmouth and Dowling Refrigeration in Greenland.
He was a Boy Scout leader, a founding member of the Stratham Volunteer Fire Department, and served as the road agent in Stratham in the early 1940s.
He was the husband of the late Mary A. (Chase) Barker, who died in February 1999.
Survivors include his daughter, Joyce A. Rowe and her husband, Christopher, of Stratham; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl Barker of Stratham; and several nieces and nephews.
Murrill E. Leach
NEWNAN, Ga. - Murrill E. Leach, 85, of Newnan, Ga., formerly of North Hampton, N.H., died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, in the Fayette Community Hospital in Fayetteville.
Born Jan. 15, 1915, in Penobscot, Maine, she was the daughter of Pearl and Lelia (Wardwell) Leach. She resided in Newnan the past nine years, coming from North Hampton. Before this, she was a 37-year resident of Hamilton, Mass.
She was the wife of the late Roy F. Leach, who died in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Roy F. Leach Jr. and his wife, Claire, of Hampton, N.H.; a daughter, Jeanne Carter and her husband, Bob, of Newnan, Ga.,; nine grandchildren; a number of great-grandchildren; and a sister.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Janet Hanchett.
Katherine Glidden
HOOKSETT, N.H. - Katherine "Kay" Glidden, 74, of 1160 Hooksett Road, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Catholic Medical Center.
Born April 17, 1925, in West Roxbury, Mass., she was the daughter of Raymond "Pappy" and Mary "Mae" (Glennon) Hallett. She was raised in Newington, but spent most of her life in Portsmouth before moving to Hooksett in 1995.
She worked as a porousity tester for Watts Regulator in Kittery during the 1970s. She also worked at the courtesy booth at Pic-N-Pay for many years.
She was the wife of the late True D. Glidden, who died in 1994.
Family members who will dearly miss her include her daughter, Karen and her husband, Ken McCabe, of Hopkinton, N.H.; her son, Thomas, and his wife, Patricia Glidden, of Londonderry, N.H.; her sister, Nora Syphers of Hooksett, N.H.; her grandchildren, David Gross of Hopkinton, N.H., Nicole Glidden and Dustin Glidden of Londonderry, N.H.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by one brother, Raymond Hallett, who died in 1998.
Demetra G. Vatistas
PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Demetra G. "Dee" (Grimbilas) Vatistas, 78, of 332 Hanover St., died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at the Mease Countryside Hospital in Clearwater, Fla.
Born Sept. 15, 1921, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Chrisanthos and Della (Coroneos) Grimbilas.
She was a 1939 graduate of Portsmouth High School and a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth.
She was the wife of the late Gregory P. Vatistas.
Survivors include four sons, Peter Vatistas and his wife, Elena, of Clearwater, Fla., Gregory Vatistas and his wife, Roxanne, of Rochester, N.H., Chris Vatistas and his wife, Mary, of Portsmouth, Va., and James Vatistas and his wife, Pamela, of Gonic, N.H.; two brothers, Peter Grimbilas of Portsmouth, and George Grimbilas of Lynn, Mass.; one sister, Star Johnson of Ipswich, Mass.; six grandchildren, Demetra Vatistas, Gregory Vatistas, Nicole Vatistas, Sarah Vatistas, Paul Winch and Kim Pellitier; three great-grandchildren, Blazah Connor, Travis Pellitier and Allison Winch; and several nieces and nephews.
Florence G. Glidden
BRENTWOOD - Florence G. Glidden, 87, of 249 Pickpocket Road, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Born June 29, 1912, in Molunkus, Maine, she was the daughter of Theodore and Francella (Colbath) Baker. Formerly of Exeter, she grew up in Molunkus and had resided in Brentwood for the last 21 years.
She was formerly employed as a nurse aide in Salem, Mass., and as a weaver at Exeter Manufacturing Co.
Survivors include four daughters, Norma Fuller of Brentwood, Priscilla Jean of Brentwood, Phyllis Lees of Exeter, and Doris Gaulin of Hampton and Fort Meyers, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Stella Woodley of Cape Coral, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Andrew G. Drakides
HAMPTON - The funeral for Andrew G. Drakides, 75, of Brown Road, Hampton Falls, was held Wednesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton. The Rev. Angelo Pappas, pastor of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth, officiated. Georgia Caroussos, niece of Mr. Drakides, offered words of remembrance. Burial followed in the First Baptist Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Pappas.
Michael Sereda
HAMPTON - Services for Michael Sereda, 72, of 27 Sanborn Road, Hampton Falls, Friday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton. The Rev. Angelo Pappas, pastor of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth, officiated. Words of remembrance were offered by his wife Nanette (Kaupke) Sereda. Cremation was in the Phoenix Crematory, Hampton.
Susan E. Gray
PORTSMOUTH - Susan Esther Hopkins Gray of Rutland, Vt., and Portsmouth, died on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, following a lengthy illness.
She graduated from Wilson College in Chambersberg, Pa, and Columbia University with degrees in English, philosophy and religious education, and worked many years as a social worker, a director of religious education, and an elementary school teacher in New York and Vermont.
In addition to her career of service, she dedicated her life to raising five children, all of whom survive her, along with her eight grandchildren, and her sister.
She died peacefully, in her sleep, with her children and her sister, Jeannette Hopkins, a book editor in Portsmouth, at her bedside. A memorial service will be held later in the spring at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert, Vt.
James T. Mead
HAMPTON - James T. Meads, 66, of 190 Kings Highway, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Exeter Hospital.
Born in Girard, Ga., Nov. 22, 1933, he was the son of the late George T. and Eva Mae (Davis) Meads. He had been a Hampton resident for the past 30 years after moving from Long Island, N.Y.
He was well known in the area as a real estate developer, building condominium complexes in the Seacoast area and North Conway. He owned Green Briar Real Estate in Hampton and was the former owner of the Green Briar Motel. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the Navy.
He was a member of the New Hampshire Realtors Association and had been involved in Habitat for Humanity and the renovations and expansion of the Cross Roads House of Portsmouth.
He was the husband of Beatrice (Banick) Meads of Hampton, to whom he was married 17 years.
Other surviving family members include his beloved daughter Lori Meads-Belz and her husband, Eddie, of Brookline, Mass.; two stepsons, Michael Ross and his wife, Colleen, of New London, and Robert Ross of Seattle, Wash; three granddaughters, Abbie, Christie, and Becca Ross; a brother, Bernie Meads and his companion, Gwen Howard, of Edmonds, Wash.; his cherished friends, Michael and Alison Murchie of Tualatin, Ore.; and his former wife Cindy Card of Bradenton, Fla.
He was predeceased by his sister, Emma Lee Bragg in 1997.
Simone E. Roberts
YORK - Simone E. Roberts, 94, of 28 Orchard Lane, York Harbor, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at York Hospital.
Born in Biddeford on Aug. 11, 1905, she was the daughter of Alfred and Florida (Jacques) Hotte and attended local schools there.
She was a communicant of St. Christopher Church.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, needlepoint, and she had an extensive collection of stuffed bears.
She is the widow of Lester Roberts.
Survivors include two nieces, Charlotte Bisson of York, and Audrey Otis of Chesterfield, Va.
She was predeceased by a sister Phema Bisson and a brother Gabriel Hotte.
Lionel Cormier
PORTSMOUTH - Lionel Cormier, 82, of 140 Court St., died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in St. Leonard, New Brunswick on Sept. 30, 1917, he was the son of Fred and Clarina (Oulette) Cormier. He resided on the Seacoast for the past 40 years.
He worked as a tree-cutting specialist. He loved working, gardening, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
He was the husband of the late Rose (Martin) Cormier who died in 1993.
He is survived by a son, Steven and his wife Joetta Cormier of Kensington; three brothers, Gerard Cormier of Ontario, Luician Cormier of Hartford, Conn., and Fern Cormier of Niagara Falls, Ontario; two sisters, Rita Belanger of New Brunswick, and Edwina of Sherburt, Quebec; two grandchildren, Joey and Alicia Cormier of Kensington; and several nieces and nephews.
Joseph J. Donahue
BERWICK - Joseph J. Donahue, 64, of 22 Mark Circle, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover.
Born Sept. 4, 1935, in New York City, he was the son of John F. and Margaret F. (MacKenzie) Donahue. He was a graduate of Rice High School, Class of 1953 and attended Iona College, New Rochelle, N.Y. as well as the College of the City of New York.
A veteran of the Navy, he was assigned to the Public Information Office at the Brunswick (Maine) Naval Air Station and then as a journalist petty officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal (CVA-59).
He relocated to Bath where he worked as a police officer for the city and also as a deputy sheriff for Sagadahoc County. In later years, he was a justice of the peace and York County bail commissioner.
He began his professional journalism career with the Portland Press Herald and was assigned to southern York County. A brief stint at Foster's Daily Democrat of Dover, was followed by 23 years as a reporter and columnist with the Portsmouth Herald.
He was well known in the Seacoast area for more than 20 years, as he wrote a weekly column, "Rambling in York County." He wrote more than 1,000 columns.
More recently he was employed as a part-time guide and interpreter at the Port of Portsmouth Maritime Museum and Albacore Park.
Continuing his interests in maritime matters, he was also a part-time employee at the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum. An avid reader, his interests were wide-ranging, including railroads, family genealogy and a substantial collection of National Geographics. More recently he sought memorabilia of the twilight years of Atlantic ocean liners and collected postcards of ships, many of which he saw in New York City.
He was the husband of Yvette A. (Morin) Donahue of Berwick for 40 years.
In addition to his widow, family members include two sons, Jonathan J. Donahue of Concord, Mass., and Stephen J. Donahue and his wife, Celeste Sonnier, of Pocatello, Idaho; two daughters, Margaret A. Burke and her husband, Dennis, of Rollinsford, and Kathleen M. Donahue and John Peterson of San Francisco; a brother, Stephen J. Donahue and his wife, Ann, of Nutley, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Nancy (McCallum) Donahue of Riverdale, Bronx, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Seamus and Bridget Burke of Rollinsford; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his older brother, John F. Donahue.
