Alfred T. Iannetti
GREENLAND - Alfred T. Iannetti, 81, of 26 Sunset Drive, died Sunday, April 2, 2000, at his home.
Born Nov. 29, 1918, in Rutland, Vt., he was the son of the late Charles A. Romilda (Dellevenri) Iannetti. He lived most of his life in Rutland and was a graduate of Rutland High School.
He moved to Greenland 33 years ago to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he was a tailor; before this, he worked as a tailor in Rutland.
He was also an Army veteran.
He was a life member of the Elks Lodge of Rutland, and a member of the Portsmouth Country Club for 30 years.
He was the husband of Beverly H. Iannetti.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two brothers, Italio Iannetti and Henry Iannetti, both of Rutland; three sisters, Clotilda Accorsi of North Clarendon, Vt., Helen Howard of Scotia, N.Y., and Emily Mercoglan of Schenectady, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Richard and Americo Iannetti.
Charles C. Hall
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Mr. Charles C. "Charlie" Hall, 58, of 22 Oral Lane, were held Saturday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, with graveside services held at Central Cemetery in Rye. The Rev. William Gardei officiated.
The American flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to Mr. Hall's son, Christopher Hall.
Bearers were Christopher Hall, Staff Sgt. Christopher Hartwick, USAF, Tony Wade, John O'Brien, George Paine and Robert Diguio.
Nancy J. Pfeiffer
WEBSTER, N.H. - Nancy Janice Pfeiffer, 63, of Tyler Road, died Saturday, April 1, 2000, surrounded by family.
Born July 20, 1936, in Waltham, Mass., she was the daughter of Aubry and Frances (MacKeil) Fage. She was a 1954 graduate of Waltham High School.
She was the wife of William Pfeiffer for 45 years.
In 1979, they moved to Webster, N.H. She was a dedicated employee with the Family Physicians of Hopkinton, N.H. She was an avid quilter and seamstress. She enjoyed making doll clothes and building dollhouses. Her handiwork was a tremendous gift and will become a wonderful keepsake for family and friends.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Jeffrey A. Pfeiffer of Contoocook, N.H., and William A. Pfeiffer Jr. of Waterboro, Maine; two daughters, Donna L. Williams of Salisbury, N.H., and Kathleen A. Conneen of Portsmouth; a brother, Roland Fage of Contoocook; a sister, Lois Clark of Groton, Mass; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
James T. Bushway
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine - James Thomas Bushway, 44, died suddenly on Wednesday, March 5, 2000, at his home.
He was the beloved son of Barbara M. Lee of Laguna Hills, Calif., and the late George H. Bushway of Rye Beach; cherished brother of his sister Barbara B. de Souza; and two brothers, George H. Bushway and John F. Lee; he is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Antoinett P. McDowell; and nieces Jennifer and Alexandra Bushway and Natasha Lee and nephew, Robert Lee. He was a third-year student at Southern Maine Technical College, studying to become a physicians' assistant. A scholarship has been endowed in his name by his school.
He will be remembered as a man of music and mirth, always giving with pleasure and enthusiasm to his family, friends and community. He was loved and will be missed. Donations may be sent in his name to the American Kidney Foundation.
A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, April 7, 2000, at the Carl Flink Chapel, Southern Maine Technical College, Fort Road, South Portland.
Irene Patterson
LAKE CHARLES, La. - Funeral services for Miss Irene Patterson were held Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000.
Consolata Cemetery on Country Club Road in Lake Charles, La., is where she is interred.
Miss Irene died at 3:10 a.m. on Feb. 26 in her home, surrounded by family and friends.
She was a lifelong resident of Lake Charles. She was employed as an operator at Olin Petrochemical for 15 years. She was an emergency room nurse and also on the fire brigade while employed at Olin. She was a member of Calvary Baptist church.
She was a daughter of the Cajun culture, having been born of two Cajuns. Her mother spoke only French. Miss Irene loved the music, dancing, food and music of her heritage. She danced with her children in her arms as they were growing. One of her passions was dancing to the music of her culture and her way of life.
She wrote letters of love to all her children before she died. She wrote her own funeral messages for family and friends. Irene was an incredibly strong woman to have survived all that she did. She remembers picking cotton as a child. She worked tirelessly as a single mother to raise her six children. Through her they learned that all things can be overcome. She was an excellent role model.
Hospice of Southwestern Louisiana was instrumental in helping her to be home to die in peace and with dignity. The family wishes to thank all who came to know and love our Mother. Jean and Tyrella and Linda, we thank you all for your tender, honest, compassionate and loving care. The staff at Walter O. Moss regional hospital was incredibly compassionate, caring and respectful. CCU at Moss is another wonderful group of professionals who helped us keep our mother long enough for her to say her good-byes. Thanks also to Doctors Shaike, Geheran and Goar.

Survivors include two sons, Carl and Charles Patterson of Lake Charles, and three daughters, Ramona Patterson of Portsmouth, N.H., Pamela Dupre Patterson of Lake Charles, and Sabrena Thibedeau of Ragley, La.. Her nine grandchildren are Mysti Patterson, Kelly Driscoll, Michael-Paul Patterson, John Ross Dupre, Noah and Jonah Dupre, Amber and Andi Patterson and Hunter Thibodeaux.
She was the eldest of 15 children and her remaining relatives are scattered throughout Louisiana and Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations were made in her name to Hospice of Southwestern Louisiana.
Her oldest son, James, predeceased Miss Irene in 1981. Her grave is next to his.
Dr. Robert Allen Smith Jr.
DEERFIELD, N.H. - Dr. Robert Allen Smith Jr., 57, of 219 South Road, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Elliot Hospital in Manchester after a long period of illness.
Born April 13, 1942, in Philadelphia, he was the son of Robert Allen Smith Sr. and Louise Draper Smith Ryan. He was employed at Current Technology in Durham for 10 years as a vision researcher. For 20 years, He was the director of Vision Research Laboratory at the University of New Hampshire, where he was also a psychology professor. He was an active member of the American Vision Research Organization and member of the Minuteman Samoyed Club. He was also a semiprofessional bluegrass player, in which he enjoyed playing string instruments.
He was the husband of Dr. Nancy Cook Smith for nine years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Sara Ann Smith of Raleigh, N.C., and Kathryn L. Smith of Burlington, Vt.; a stepdaughter, Margaret M. Goodhue of Laurens, S.C.; and his mother, Louise (Draper) Smith of Bedford, Mass. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at Carleton Willard Village, 100 Old Billerica Road, Bedford, Mass. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory made be made to the Paul Harvey Library of Notre Dame College in Manchester.
Kenneth A. Titus
KITTERY - Kenneth A. Titus, 85, of Sterling Road, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at York Hospital.
Born Sept. 2, 1914, in York, he was the son of Harry and Mabel (Lathorp) Titus.
He attended school in York. After school, he worked for Spillers Inn in York and other odd jobs, until he went to work for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He worked his way up from working on boats to becoming a 1st Class electrician on the cranes.
He enjoyed bowling and was involved in several leagues when he was younger. He also loved horse racing and the racetrack. He did electrical work for a lot of people in his spare time.
He was the husband of Florence E. Titus.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Patricia I'Ans Titus and Linda L. Ross, both of Eliot.

Michael Francis Pagano, 64
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Michael Francis Pagano, 64, of Portsmouth, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, on Friday. The Rev. Dan Weaver, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Exeter, officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Michael's wife Sandra (Clement) Pagano. Robert Frank was organist and John Perry was guitarist.
In attendance were members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks No. 97 of Portsmouth; the Portsmouth Moose; and representatives from the City of Portsmouth.
Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery, in Portsmouth, with committal services by The Rev. Weaver.
Bearers were Bob Haas, Joe Penta, John Perry, Thomas Azzara Jr., Robert Brauerman, Danny Brauerman, Ebbie Devalle, and Tony Pagano.
William A. Hilbourn
SOUTH BERWICK - William Albert Hilbourn, 87, of Union Street,, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, of congestive heart failure at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.
Born Aug. 10, 1912, in Lynn, Mass., he was the son of Georgietta Jellison and Harry Hilbourn. He attended schools in Lynn. He was a longtime resident of South Berwick, moving there in June 1948, when he married Myra Chick.
He worked many years for Shevenell Co. in Dover until his retirement. Before the war, he worked in Bermuda.
He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II in the European Theatre in the Fifth Armored Tank Division. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 47 of Rollinsford.
He enjoyed cooking and gardening in his later years, and as a young man, he had a beautiful singing voice.
He was the husband of Myra (Chick) Hilbourn of South Berwick for 51 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Sharon H. Potvin of Framingham, Mass.; and Sally K. Carmichael and her husband, Edward, of Newmarket; one son, Philip Knowlton of Portland; four granddaughters, Kimberly, Suzanne, Kristine and Kyle; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Alma Stackhouse of Lynn, Mass; and many nieces and nephews.
Oliver H. Scammell
PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Oliver H. Scammell, 78, of 60 F.W. Hartford Drive, who died Feb. 27, 2000, were held Thursday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton. The Rev. Gordon Allen, former rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiated. Jean Goss was organist, and Thomas Ahearn was soloist. Scripture readings were offered by Emily Scammell and Alex Scammell, and Psalm 23 was read by Robert Seifert. The poem "Away" was read by Caroline and Chris Cullinane. Remembrances were offered by Mr. Scammell's daughter, Jenny Seifert. Cremation took place in the Phoenix Crematory, Hampton.
M. Althea Cullen
NEW CASTLE - M. Althea Cullen, 80, of New Castle, died suddenly on Thursday, March 23, 2000, in Boynton Beach, Fla.
Born and raised in Wellesley, Mass., she moved to the Portsmouth area in 1954. She was employed at Sears Roebuck and retired from there in 1983.
She was a communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception Church and the Women's Club there.
She was the wife of the late C. Thomas Cullen, who died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Paul Cullen, and his wife, Pamela, of New Castle; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Laura Cullen; and a brother, Paul Monahan and his wife, Rita, of Boynton Beach, Fla.
She was predeceased by her mother, Marguerite (Maher) Monahan, who died in 1997.
Wilfrid G. Laporte
NEWMARKET - Wilfrid G. Laporte, 77, of 9 Grant Road, died Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at Exeter Hospital.
Born Oct. 8, 1922, in Exeter, he was the son of Wilfrid J. and Marie A. (Hamel) Laporte. He lived in Newmarket for most of his life and in Searsport, Maine, since his retirement in 1986.
A 1940 graduate of Newmarket High School, he also graduated from the New England Conservatory.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an aerial photographer. He was stationed in India and flew missions over The Hump.
For many years, he worked as a librarian at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1986.
He was an accomplished musician who loved music. He played overseas and locally.
He was a member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post No. 67 in Newmarket.
Survivors include a loving friend, Frederica Laporte of Searsport, Maine; four children, Susan Herbert of Winthrop, Mass., Tannis Sexton of Alderpoint, Calif., Freya Hemley of Provincetown, Mass., and Jonathan Morrill of Hollywood, Calif; seven grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Dyer of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.
