Robert E. Spaulding

PORTSMOUTH - Robert E. Spaulding, 52, of 120 Ledgewood Apartments, died unexpectedly at his home on Tuesday, July 4, 2000, after a brief period of illness.

Born April 19, 1948, in Nashua, he was the son of the late Arthur and Rachel E. (Bernier) Spaulding and Bob Lambert of Merrimack, N.H. A resident of Portsmouth for the past 14 years, he previously lived in Manchester.

Educated in Nashua, he graduated from Bishop Guertin High School and continued his education at New Hampshire College, receiving an associate's degree.

He was a Vietnam-era veteran of the United States Air Force.

He was employed as a counselor for the Easter Seal Society of New Hampshire.

Survivors include his son, Matthew Arthur Spaulding of Manchester; his sister, Diane M. Mitchell of Nashua; his special friend, Beverly Leathers of Portsmouth; two half-brothers; three half-sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

SPAULDING - Robert E. Spaulding of 120 Ledgewood Apartments, Portsmouth, and formerly of Manchester and Nashua, died in Portsmouth on July 4, 2000. A funeral service in his honor will be held at 8 this evening (Thursday) in the Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua. Visiting hours will be held from 6 p.m. until the time of the service in the Davis Funeral Home. Friends are invited to attend. Interment prayers and burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday in Sunnyside Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua, N.H., (603) 883-3401.

Richard D. Weeks Jr.

GOLDSBORO, N.C. - Master Sergeant Richard Dawson Weeks Jr., 39, the husband of Debra June (Gootee) Weeks of Tyndall Lane, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Duke Medical Center in Durham, N.C.

He was the son of Mary B. Weeks and the late Richard D. Weeks of Winchester, N.H.

He grew up in the Seacoast area, attending Marshwood High School.

For the past 19 years, he served his country in the Air Force.

In addition to his wife and his mother, survivors include his daughter, Lindsey Rachel, and son, Richard Dawson III; three sisters, Kathlyn Buckley and family of Hinsdale, N.H., Melissa A. Weeks of Portsmouth, and Deborah Marshall and family of Eliot; one brother, Dennis P. Weeks Sr. of Louisiana; 10 nieces and nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

WEEKS - Master Sgt. Richard Dawson Weeks Jr., 39, died June 29, 2000. A full military funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on July 11, 2000, at the United Church of Winchester, Winchester, N.H. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name, Richard Dawson Weeks Jr., may be made to the North Carolina Chapter of Leukemia Society, 5624 Executive Center Drive S-100, Charlotte, NC 28212.

Carl H. Klefbeck

SEABROOK - Carl H. Klefbeck, 79, of 85 Fogg Lane, died Monday, July 3, 2000, at his home.

Born in Wellesley, Mass. on Dec. 16, 1920, he was the son of Victor B. and May (Howard) Klefbeck. Raised in Massachusetts, he resided for many years in the southwestern United States, retiring to Seabrook in 1990 from Dallas, Texas.

He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, serving with the Army Air Corps and the Air Force.

He worked many years as a leather and fabric supplier, selling textiles to the furniture industry. Representing many mills and importers over the years, he was the founder and first president of the Southwest Furniture Suppliers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Chase) Klefbeck of Seabrook.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

His sister, Priscilla Wagner, predeceased him several years ago.

KLEFBECK - Carl. H. Klefbeck of 85 Fogg Lane, Seabrook died July 3, 2000. Services will be held graveside at 2 p.m., Thursday, in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. The family requests that there be no visiting hours and that flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the NHSPCA, PO Box 96, Stratham, NH 03885. Arrangements are by Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

PILLSBURY - Everett C. Pillsbury, of LaBelle, Fla., formerly of Hampton, died Dec. 31, 1999. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Rangeley, Maine at a later date. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.

John R. "Jack" Mazeau

NEWINGTON - John R. "Jack" Mazeau, 80, widower of Margherita (de Rochemont) Mazeau, of 315 Newington Road, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Feb. 18, 1920, in Bridgeport, Conn., he was the son of the late John Y. and Sally Mazeau. He was a graduate of Rogers High School in Newport, R.I., in 1937; University of New Hampshire in chemical engineering, 1949; and did his graduate work in chemical engineering at the University of Rochester in New York.

He spent his working life servicing the paper industry throughout New England and New York. He retired as a sales representative from the Waterbury Felts Co., Oriskany, N.Y., in 1982, and was a life member of the Paper Industry Management Association.

He joined the Navy in 1940 and was at Pearl Harbor aboard the USS California on Dec. 7, 1941. He was eventually discharged as chief radioman because of physical disability. He was a life member of the Pearl Harbor's Survivors' Association, Disabled American Veterans, and USS California Association.

A resident of Newington since 1952, he served on many boards and commissions, including the school board, conservation commission, planning board, trustees of trust funds, budget committee, board of fire engineers, sewer commission, building inspector, and board of selectmen, as well as all the various building committees of the town.

He was presently building inspector, and a member of the Piscataqua Chapter No. 4, Disabled American Veterans in Newington.

Survivors include his children, John Mazeau of Columbus, Ohio; Linda Khalsa of Houston; Michael Mazeau of Newington; and Daniel Mazeau of Portsmouth; a brother, Milton Mazeau of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Paul Mazeau, in 1989.

MAZEAU - John R. "Jack" Mazeau, 80, of 315 Newington Road, Newington, died July 2, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Newington Town Church. Friends invited. Visiting hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, with DAV services at 5:45 by Piscataqua Chapter No. 4 of Newington. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Newington Family Scholarship Fund, c/o Newington Town Hall, 205 Nimble Hill Road, Newington, NH 03801. Arrangements by J. Warren C. Saltmarsh

HAMPTON - Warren C. Saltmarsh, 88, of 1072 Ocean Blvd., and Hartford, Conn., died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Exeter Hospital.

Born in Pembroke, N.H., on Nov. 17, 1911, he was the son of the late Fred W. and Birdie E. (Gage) Saltmarsh.

He was a graduate of Pembroke Academy and Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Mass., in 1933.

He worked as an insurance executive for Johnson & Higgins of Detroit for 13 years and for Factory Insurance Association of Hartford, Conn., for 28 years, retiring in 1976. As a representative of these companies, his job entailed insuring large commercial industrial corporations.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Suncook and the Unitarian Universalist Church of West Hartford, Conn.

He was a lifelong summer resident of Hampton and served as a director of Godfrey's Ledge Beach Association. He also was a member of the Old Timers Club of Worcester Polytechnic Institute.

He was the husband of Doris L. (Shubert) Saltmarsh for 52 years.

In addition to his wife, family members include one son, Robert W. Saltmarsh of San Francisco; two daughters, Elizabeth G. Saltmarsh-Smith and her husband Samuel of Hebron, Conn.; and Joanne D. Oliver of Houston; two grandchildren, Spencer W. Smith and Skyler L. Smith; and two nieces.

SALTMARSH - Warren C. Saltmarsh, 88, of 1072 Ocean Blvd., Hampton, and Hartford, Conn., died July 1, 2000. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, in Union Chapel, Little Boars Head, Willow Avenue, North Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests there be no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160. Elizabeth F. Day

PORTSMOUTH - Elizabeth F. Day, 84, of 234 Sherburne Road, died Saturday, July 1, 2000.

Born June 4, 1916, in Clarksville, N.Y., she was the daughter of Garrett and Clara (Scougall) Frederick. She attended local schools and graduated from Delmar High School in 1993, Green Mountain Junior College in 1935 with an associate in science degree, University of New Hampshire in 1937 with a bachelor of science degree, and UNH in 1942 with a master of education degree.

She taught home economics at Alton High School, Dover High School and Green Mountain College.

In 1946 she married Arthur Kenneth Day, and the couple had two children, a son, Robert, and a daughter, Anne.

She did a great deal of singing, including more than 50 years in the choir of the First United Methodist Church of Portsmouth, much of that time as lead soprano and soloist. She also sang in the Seacoast Savoyards, the New Hampshire Symphony Chorus, the Rockingham Choral Society, and the Seacoast Singers, besides doing much solo work.

She was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, holding office in chapters in Alton and Dover, being worthy matron of Rivermouth Chapter No. 54 of Portsmouth, and holding office in the Grand Chapter of New Hampshire, culminating in her election as worthy grand matron for the year 1982-83.

In the First United Methodist Church she served as president of the Wesleyan Service Guild and the Women's Society for Christian Service, and was the church representative to the Portsmouth Council of Churches.

She was a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother, and volunteered at Portsmouth Hospital.

In addition to her husband, survivors include her son Robert and his wife, Phyllis, of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; her daughter Anne Salzer and her husband, George, of Greenland; four grandchildren, Melanie Williams, Sarah Day and Amanda Day of Cocoa Beach, and Adam Salzer of Greenland; and a great-granddaughter, Kaytlin Nicole Williams of Cocoa Beach.

DAY - Elizabeth F. Day, 84, of 234 Sherburne Road, Portsmouth, died July 1, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the First United Methodist Church, Miller Avenue, Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, with services at 5:45 p.m. by Rivermouth Chapter No. 54, Order of the Eastern Star. Stanley John Zanjechowski Jr.

KITTERY POINT - Stanley John Zanjechowski Jr., 65, of 161 Pepperell Road, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, unexpectedly at his home.

Born Sept. 15, 1934, he was the son of Stanley J. and Loretta (Nawrocki) Zanjechowski Sr. He attended the St. Casimirs grammar school and graduated from Manchester Central High School, Class of 1952.

He served his country as a chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy until his retirement in 1973. He was assigned to the USS Albacore, serving the longest tour aboard in the history of the boat and spent active duty time in the Vietnam War.

An avid outdoorsman, he owned and cared for his tree farm located in Kittery Point for more than 18 years. His love of the outdoors frequently took him to the water to dive or to enjoy his boat, Fancy, or just to walk with his companion German short-haired pointers that he raised for many years.

He was a world traveler, passionately reading history and seeing the places around the world firsthand; his pastimes also included a love of the arts including jazz and classical music, ballet and visiting the Polish museum. He was close to his Polish roots, studying his family geneaology extensively.

Above all was his love of his family. He enjoyed his children and grandchildren as well as his extended family, the military service friends he had made and with whom he stayed very close. He spent time with this part of his family as a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post No. 4 of Newington; the Seacoast area Sub veterans association; the Booma Post of the American Legion in Portsmouth; and at the Knights of Columbus in Manchester.

Survivors include his daughters and their spouses, Kelly and Badri Zanjechowski-Ragahavan, of San Diego, Calif.; Mary and Andrew Zanjechowski-Durham, of Andover, Mass.; and Patricia and Joseph Zanjechowski-Stickles, of Naples, Fla.; a son, Stanley John Zanjechowski III of Kittery; a sister, Barbara Welch of Manchester; his aunt, Mary Galuzka of Manchester; and grandchildren, Katie Zanjechowski, Joseph Stickles, Skye Stickles and Max Durham.

ZANJECHOWSKI - Stanley John Zanjechowski Jr., 65, of 161 Pepperell Road, Kittery Point, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, unexpectedly at his home. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 3, 2000, at St. Raphael Church in Kittery. Friends and family may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, Route 1 Bypass, Kittery, Maine. A DAV honors service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday prior to visiting. Donations may be made in his memory to the Albacore Park, 600 Market St., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Fannie N. Morelli

PORTSMOUTH - Fannie N. Morelli, 94, formerly of 184 Madison St., passed away Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born Dec. 24, 1905, in Santa Ninfa, Sicily, Italy, she was the daughter of Giovanni and Maria (Constanza) Pellicane. Her family moved to this country when she was young, and she was raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. She lived for many years in Queens, where she was employed as a seamstress, before moving to Portsmouth in 1992.

Survivors include her daughter, Joan Parsons and her husband, Raymond, of Stratham; two grandchildren, Raymond D. Parsons Jr. of Virginia and Melissa T. Parsons of West Lebanon, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Vito "Willie" Pisciotta.

MORELLI - Fannie N. Morelli, 94, formerly of Madison Street, Portsmouth, died June 29, 2000. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. James Church. Friends invited. No visiting hours. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. James Church, 2075 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.

Lt. Cmdr. Lewis L. Jennison

LEE - Lt. Cmdr. Lewis L. Jennison, U.S. Navy (Retired), 76, of 28 High Road, Lee, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover after a short period of illness.

A 1941 graduate of Dover High School, he attended UNH and Tufts University before embarking on a career of 22 years in the Navy, where he was a naval aviator and electronics instructor, both in lighter-than-air (blimps) and regular aircraft.

After his retirement in 1964, he became a licensed electrician, working in steel building construction and later on installation and servicing of commercial laundry equipment with Craig Supply of Durham, and also for the Anchorage Motels in York.

After his second retirement in 1985, he and his wife traveled extensively in their motor home, visiting all 50 states.

Up to the time of his death, he was an active member and officer of the following service organizations: he was holder of the Major General John Sullivan distinguished service medal; past master, past secretary, and current assistant secretary of Riding Star Lodge No. 44; past high priest and current secretary of Belknap Chapter No. 8; current recorder of Orphan Council No. 1; member of St. Paul Commandery No. 5; current recorder and member of the degree team stage crew of Scottish Rite Valley of Portsmouth and Dover; member of Bektash Temple A.A.O.N.M.S.; past president, past secretary and treasurer of Patrol C, Bektash Temple, in which he frequently drove children to the Shrine Hospital in Springfield, Mass.; past president of the Portsmouth Shrine Club; member of Gen. William Whipple Military Lodge and member of Gen. William Whipple Camp-Heroes, past commander; past president and present secretary of National Sojourners, Chapter 386 of Portsmouth; member of N.H. Consistory, 32nd Degree; a member of NHNA and MNA; past commander and present finance officer of Bourgoin Reardon Post No 97 American Legion; past president and secretary of Great Bay Stamp Club, Dover; member of The Retired Officer's Association - N.H. Chapter; member of First Newmarket Colonial Militia, and formerly on cannon crew; and member of the Naval Airship Association.

He was the husband of Myra (Piper) of Lee for 56 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Charles D. Jennison and wife, Anne, of Lee, and Brian L. Jennison of Springfield, Ore.; and two granddaughters, Georgianna P. Jennison and Amanda F. Jennison, also of Lee. He is also survived by four brothers, Harold Jennison of New London, N.H., Allyn Jennison of Madbury, Richard Jennison of Antrim, N.H., and Robert Jennison of Dover; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by five brothers, Charles Jennison, George Jennison, Roger Jennison, Edward Jennison and Russell Jennison.

JENNISON - LCDR Lewis L. Jennison, USN (Ret.), 76, died June 28, 2000. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, in the Lee Church Congregational on Mast Road in Lee, N.H. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, c/o Bektash Temple, PO Box 7252, Concord, NH 03301-7252. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.

Francis Cochran Moore

PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Francis Cochran Moore, 88, of 346 Pleasant St., were held Friday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth. Pastor Joe Montgomery, of Trinity Baptist Church in Concord, officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Mr. Moore's daughter, Melissa E. Merrill and CD4 James Hasson, USNR, Ret.

In attendance were members of the church.

An honor guard was formed by Capt. Keith Koerber, USNR, Ret.; Master Chief John Sarette, USNR, Ret.; Sen. Chief Ben Plante, USN, Ret.; and Chief Wilfred Dube, USNR, Ret.

The American flag was presented to Mr. Moore's daughter, Melissa, by CD4 James Hasson, USNR, Ret.

Burial will be in the Village Cemetery in Walpole, N.H., at the convenience of the family.
