Richard W. Buckman II
SOMERSWORTH - Richard W. Buckman II , 19, of 53 Kelwyn Drive, was lost at sea May 27, 2000.
Born Aug. 31, 1980, he was the son of Richard and Barbara Buckman of Somersworth.
He attended Portsmouth High School, and graduated from Somersworth High School with the Class of 1999.
He was employed as an assistant dairy manager at DeMoulas in Newburyport.
He spent his spare time hanging out with his friends.
He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Brian R. Buckman of Somersworth; his maternal grandmother, Patricia Smith of Trenton, N.J.; his paternal grandfather, Edwin L. Buckman of Portsmouth; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by an uncle, Guy D. Buckman, in 1995; his paternal grandmother, Virginia L. Buckman, in 1995; and a cousin, Micheal E. Wile, in 1999.
BUCKMAN - A private memorial service at sea will be held Saturday, July 21, for Richard W. Buckman II, 19, who was lost at sea May 27, 2000. Memorial donations in his name may be sent to his parents, Richard and Barbara Buckman, 53 Kelwyn Drive, Somersworth, NH. Donations will be used to set up a scholarship fund in his name. Friends and family are welcome to join his parents at their home at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Robert D. Hill Jr
HAMPTON - The funeral for Robert D. "Bud" Hill Jr., 44, of Portsmouth, who died July 15, 2000, was held Thursday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. James Church. The Rev. Agapit H. Jean, pastor, was celebrant. Jean Goss was organist and Julia Lanter was soloist. Julie Hayes offered the readings.
Acolytes were Theresa Hickey, Jane Millette, Joanne Green and Richard Ward. Burial followed in the Calvary Cemetery with the rite of committal conducted by Father Jean. Pallbearers were Gilbert Hudson, Roland "Buddy" Hudson, Micol Buckman, John Hill, Robert DeSisto and Les Scance.
Marjorie F. Smith
YORK BEACH - Marjorie F. Smith, 78, of 5 Cycad Ave., died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at York Hospital.
Born March 6, 1922, in Westborough, Mass., she was the daughter of Francis A. and Mary Olive (Lebeau) Aldrich. She was a 1939 graduate of Classical High School in Springfield, Mass., and a 1943 graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, receiving a bachelor of science degree.
During World War II, she served as a registered dietitian in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Wilbur K. Keene, who died in 1982. They had resided in Dallas Center, Iowa, for many years, where she had assisted her husband in the operation of Keene's Sundries store. She was a past president and life member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Dallas Center, and was a member of the Dallas Center Women's Club.
She moved to York and married R.F. Phillips Smith in 1983. Mr. Smith died in 1990.
She was a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the Sea Church of York.
Survivors include one son, Donald F. Keene of Scottsdale, Ariz.; one daughter, Patricia L. Patenaude of Northampton, Mass., and York Beach; two stepsons, Bradford P. Smith of Davis, Calif., and Webster P. Smith of Florida; one stepdaughter, Madeline Jorgenson of Junction City, Ore.; two grandsons; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Virginia Aldrich and Eileen Hasbrouck; a brother, John J. Aldrich, and a stepdaughter, Carol (Smith) Pratts.
SMITH - Marjorie F., of Cycad Ave., York Beach, Me., died July 20 in York. Memorial Mass at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jyly 29 in St. Christopher Church, York St., York. There will be no visiting hours. Robert E. Bergeron
PORTSMOUTH - Robert E. Bergeron, 82, of 145 Dodge Ave., died Thursday, July 20, 2000, at the Edgewood Centre after a period of failing health.
Born July 20, 1918, in Keene, N.H., he was the son of Ludger and Obeline (Bergeron) Bergeron. He was a graduate of Keene High School and Bentley College in Boston. After graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with the Third Division. During World War II, he saw action in the Pacific on Iwo Jima.
For 38 years he was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring as purchasing agent for the supply department.
A resident of Portsmouth for the past 61 years, he was a member of St. James Church, Portsmouth Lodge of Elks No. 97, and Portsmouth Country Club, where he had the distinction of being the oldest living past president.
A winter resident of Palm Beach, Fla., since 1973, he was a member of the North Palm Beach Country Club.
He was the husband of Dorothy (Flanagan) Bergeron for 57 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include 2 daughters, Oberlyn Sheedy of Newburyport, Mass., and Susan Bowles of Lee; three grandchildren, Timothy Black, Bethany Black and Shannon Bowles; one brother, Leon Bergeron of Keene; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Aline Black, who died in 1990.
BERGERON - Robert E. Bergeron, 82, of 145 Dodge Ave., Portsmouth, died July 20, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. James Church, Route 1 - Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. Elizabeth J. Ballard
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Elizabeth J. Ballard, 77, of 38 Haven Road, were held Wednesday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, with memorial services at Unitarian-Universalist Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. Will Saunders officiated.
Words of remembrance were given by Bob Santulli and Gordon McCollester. Ashley Prend was soloist and Charles Kaufmann was organist.
In attendance were members of the church; Women's College Club; Portsmouth Regional Hospital Guild; Portsmouth Garden Club; and representatives from the Area Home Care and Family Services; Seacoast Hospice; and A Safe Place.
Burial was in the Proprietors Cemetery in Portsmouth.
Arthur W. Bennett
NASHUA - Arthur W. Bennett, 79, of 9 Eighth St., died Wednesday, July 12, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital after a period of illness.
Born in Boston, March 13, 1921, he was the son of the late M. John and Theresa (Joyce) Bennett. A resident of Nashua since 1961, he had previously lived in Manchester for four years, and before that in Massachusetts.
He was educated in Boston schools, and was a veteran of World War II.
He was employed as brakeman for the Boston & Maine Railroad for more than 33 years. Before enlisting in the Navy, he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps in the Monadnock region.
He enjoyed gardening, bicycling and walking. He also enjoyed traveling in the United States and abroad while he was in the Navy.
He was the husband of the late Annie (Duncan) Bennett, who died in 1981.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert D. Bennett and his wife, Jennifer Fuller-Bennett, of Rollinsford; and David A. Bennett and his wife, Suzanne, of Nashua; four grandchildren, Anna and Lynn Bennett of Rollinsford, and Angela and Andrew Bennett of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services were held last week.
Jerome L. Fisher
YORK - Jerome L. Fisher, 99, of 17 Scotland Point, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at his residence.
Born April 16, 1901, in Providence, R.I., he was the son of David and Elizabeth (Layton) Fisher. He spent his early childhood in Great Village, Nova Scotia, and attended Great Village elementary schools. He later returned to Providence and was a graduate of Providence High School. He received a bachelor's degree in English at Brown University. He served in the Army in Europe during World War II.
He was an English teacher at Classical High School in Providence for 27 years. He had resided in Warwick and Exeter, R.I., for many years before moving to York in 1992.
He enjoyed gardening and was an avid reader.
He was the husband of Marion (Littlefield) Fisher of York for 37 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one stepson and his wife, Emery and Katharine Hutchins of York; and two grandchildren, Patrick and Katharine Hutchins.
FISHER - Jerome L. Fisher, 99, of 17 Scotland Point, York, died July 18, 2000. Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Family and friends welcome. A private graveside service will be held.
Marion Whittemore
ELIOT - Mrs. Marion (Perry) Whittemore, 83, of Eliot, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at York Hospital.
Born April 14, 1917, in Salmon Falls, N.H., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Florence (Rowe) Perry.
She was a housewife who loved her home and enjoyed watching television. She married Kenneth Whittemore in 1941 in Eliot. Her husband predeceased her.
She was also predeceased by a brother, Harland, and four sisters, Eunice, Yvonne, Thelma and Lena. She was very close to her beloved cousin, Delmar Rowe, who also predeceased her. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
WHITTEMORE - Mrs. Marion (Perry) Whittemore, 83, of Eliot, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at York Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Chapel. The Rev. David Avery of the Eliot Congregational Church will officiate. A private burial will be held in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, is handling the arrangements.
BROWNELL - A celebration of the life of Deanie Brownell, former library assistant and trustee of Rye Public Library, who died March 15, 2000, in New Zealand, will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, July 23, in the Rye library. Friends who would like to participate in this time of remembrance are welcome to attend.

Irwin H. Paris
EXETER - Irwin H. Paris, 57, of 2 Dow St., died Sunday, July 16, 2000.
Born Oct. 28, 1942 in Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Marty and Leah Paris.
He was formerly employed as a police officer with the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department and the Rye Police Department. He was also a federal police officer at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
He was a veteran of the Army. The family would like noted that Irwin's family was his life.
He was the husband of Joanne (DeFillipo) Paris for 10 years.
In addition to his wife of Exeter; he is survived by five sons, Eric Paris, Lucas Cleary, Cory Dickens and Dan Ewing, all of Exeter, and John Murphy of Newmarket; two daughters, Dorienne Grasso of Exeter, and Jennifer Murphy of Newmarket; two grandchildren, Kyra and Austin, and one on the way.
PARIS - Irwin H. Paris, 57, of 2 Dow St., Exeter, died Sunday, July 16, 2000. There are no calling hours. A time of remembrance will be held at his home from noon to 4 p.m., Saturday, at 2 Dow St., Exeter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family, c/o Citizens Bank, The Paris Boys Fund, 154 Water St., Exeter, NH 03833. Sylvia Perkins
CAPE NEDDICK - Mrs. Sylvia (Ramsdell) Perkins, 93, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at her home in Cape Neddick.
Born June 15, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Agusta (Lewis) Ramsdell. She attended school in York and for many years, she was a custodian for the York school district. She was also a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, and cooking.
She was married to Lester Perkins, who predeceased her, and she had three sons. One son, William, also predeceased her. She is survived by her two other sons, Arthur of Eliot and Clarence of Cape Neddick. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Russell and a brother, Elmer Ramsdell and a sister Edeth Moulton.
She will be missed by her beloved 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two nieces and one nephew.
PERKINS - Mrs. Sylvia (Ramsdell) Perkins, 93, of Cape Neddick, died Monday, July 17, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery. The Rev. George Wardwell of the First Baptist Church in Kittery Point will officiate. A graveside committal service and burial will follow in First Parish Cemetery in York. Friends may call Thursday from noon until the time of the funeral.
Ernest R. Pouliot
ELIOT - Ernest R. Pouliot, 55, of 380 Goodwin Road, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at Maine Medical Center, Portland.
Born in Rochester on June 1, 1945, he was the son of Leon and Virginia (DeGrace) Pouliot.
He was an inspector at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 15 years and had moved here in 1992 from Middleton.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was the husband of Linda (Hoyt) Pouliot.
In addition to his wife of Eliot, family members include his mother, Virginia D. Pouliot of Rochester; one son, Christopher S. Pouliot of Delray Beach, Fla.; three daughters, Kimberly K. Pouliot of Juniper, Fla.; April D. Pouliot and Sheena M. Pouliot, both of Eliot; one brother, Leon Pouliot Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Elaine McClary of Francestown, N.H., and Patricia Weeks of Rollinsford; and many nieces and nephews.
POULIOT - Ernest R. Pouliot, 55, of 380 Goodwin Road, Eliot, died Monday, July 17, 2000. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick. Services will be conducted in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Nathan Rockafellow, associate pastor of the Eliot Baptist Church, officiating.
