Joseph Russell Smith Sr.
KITTERY POINT - Joseph Russell Smith Sr., 84, of Pepperell Road, of Kittery Point and Vinalhaven, Maine, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Sentry Hill at York Harbor.
Born April 5, 1916, in Kittery, he was the son of Russell and Bertha (Russell) Smith and attended local schools.
He served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a graduate of the apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1971 as a pipefitter.
An avid sailor, he spent much of his adult life sailing the Maine coast in his sailboat.
He was a member of the U.S. Power Squadron, and past member of the Portsmouth Yacht Club.
He attended the First Congregational Church of Kittery Point.
He was the husband of the late Elsie C. Smith.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra J. Smith of Eliot, and Linda S. Hall of Kittery Point; a son, Jay Smith and his wife, Susan, of Nobleboro, Maine; six grandchildren, Cliff J. Jenkins of Kittery, Candis S. Regan of Portsmouth, Michael E. Hall of Boston, Rebecca M. Hall of Kittery, Sarah S. Pierson of Falmouth, Maine, and Jessika R. Smith of Portland; and two great-grandchildren, Joselyn Regan and Parker Pierson.
He was predeceased by his longtime companion, Beverly S. Seaward.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road/ U.S. Route 1 Bypass, Kittery.
Friends and family may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Delma M. Henderson
HAMPTON - The funeral for Delma M. Henderson, 66, of 195 Towle Farm Road, Hampton, was held Friday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory.
The Rev. Lionel M. Baldwin officiated and read poems and letters written by Mrs. Henderson's grandchildren.
Private burial was in Washburn, Maine.
Georgiana Eleanor Watson
PORTSMOUTH - Georgiana Eleanor Watson, 80, of 690 Woodbury Ave., died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at her home after a long period of failing health.
Born April 19, 1920, in Millbury, Mass., she was the daughter of Frederick and Grace (Trefethen) King and was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth.
She was the wife of the late Selvin A. Watson, who died in 1994.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Wigmore of San Antonio, and Edie McDonough of Portsmouth; four sons, Frederick Geraci of Leesburg, Fla., Michael Geraci and Santo Geraci, both of Rye, and Carl Geraci of Eliot; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Root of Charlestown, S.C., and Nancy King of Eliot; and many nieces and nephews.
WATSON - Georgiana E. Watson, 80, of 690 Woodbury Ave., Portsmouth, died Sept. 29, 2000.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine of Siena Church.
Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 state St., Portsmouth.

Natalie A. Hopkins
RYE - Natalie A. Hopkins, 84, formerly of Manchester; Mansfield, Conn.; and Rye, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
Born Sept. 24, 1916, in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late H. Bertrand and Anna S. (Hart) Hopkins.
She was a graduate of Manchester Central High School, Class of 1934; and Plymouth State College, Class of 1937.
After 50 years of teaching in various states, she retired on Aug. 31, 1986, from the University of Connecticut.
She was a member of the Senior Citizens in Mansfield; the Rye Over 55 Club; and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was predeceased by a sister, Marion Hopkins.
There are no known survivors.
HOPKINS - Natalie A. Hopkins, 84, formerly of Manchester; Mansfield, Conn.; and Rye, died Sept. 30, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.
Friends invited.
Visiting hours 2-4 p.m. Monday at the chapel.

Eleanor V. Bevan
PORTSMOUTH - Eleanor V. (Howell) Bevan, 89, of 263 Rockland St., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born June 26, 1911, in Kittery, she was the daughter of the late George and Mattie Mae (Williams) Howell.
She attended schools in Kittery and Portsmouth; was a graduate of Traip Academy, Class of 1930; and had attended business school in Portsmouth.
She was formerly employed for 10 years as a legal secretary for Attorney Thomas H. Simes & Son.
She had also been employed for 10 years at the Army/ Air Force Exchange at the former Pease Air Force Base, and for 10 years at the Golden Crown Gift Shop, formerly of Portsmouth.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portsmouth; the Church Peace Circle; and a former member of the Rivermouth Chapter No. 54, Order of the Eastern Star of Portsmouth.
Survivors include cousins, Dorene and Francis Cormier; Melanie (Cormier) Brown and children; Craig, Susan and Jaimie Cormier; Wayne, Catherine and Jared Woodward; and Nancy and Jon Moore and children, all of Dover.
BEVAN - Mrs. Eleanor V. (Howell) Bevan, 89, of 263 Rockland St., Portsmouth, died Sept. 30, 2000.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.
Friends invited.

Roger A. Lavigne
KITTERY - Roger A. Lavigne, 81, of 28 Island Ave., died Friday, Sept. 29, 2000, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth after a brief illness.
Born Oct. 1, 1918, in New Bedford, Mass., he was the son of Oscar and Eva (Charland) Lavigne and had been a resident of the Seacoast since the early 1940s.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the Seabees.
He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter, retiring with 30 years of service.
Together with his wife, Jeannette (Pouliot) Lavigne, he owned and operated Roger's Cafe on State Street in Portsmouth for many years.
He was a member f the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Creek AC, and was a life member of the Portsmouth Lodge of the Elks.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, survivors include two daughters, Camille Crowley and her husband, Patrick, of Portsmouth, and Ramona Dow and her husband, Ronald, of Portsmouth; one granddaughter, Angela Collins of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.
LAVIGNE - Roger A. Lavigne, 81, of 28 Island St., Kittery, died Sept. 29, 2000.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
Visiting hours 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.
Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
