Daniel Charles Miller
PORTSMOUTH - Daniel Charles Miller, 48, of 185 Austin St., died suddenly Thursday night, Oct. 12, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born Aug. 4, 1952, in Elgin, Ill., he was the son of Charles W. and Arita Mae (Pester) Miller. He had been a resident of Portsmouth for the past 26 years.
He served a tour of duty in the U.S. Air Force and had been employed as an automotive mechanic for the past 30 years.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 21 years, Joy (Schmoll) Miller; two sons, Scott Alan Miller and his wife, Heather, of Tulsa, Okla., and Jacob Charles Miller of Portsmouth; one granddaughter; two brothers, Timothy Miller of Illinois and Philip Miller of Wisconsin; and one sister, Cynthia Miller of Indiana.

Roger Emerson Shorey
ELIOT - A memorial service for Roger Emerson Shorey, 76, of Frost Hill Road, York, who died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at Exeter Healthcare after a long illness, was held Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the First Congregational Church in Eliot. The Rev. Raymond Wilbur, a longtime friend and pastor, officiated the service.
Kind words of remembrance were shared by hunting friends; members of the local uniformed militia, represented by Charles Drake of Eliot; friends from the South Berwick Rod and Gun Club; and family. Fond stories were also shared by Mr. Shorey's son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. David Avery.
The congregation was led in song by organist Emily Haggerty, with the hymns "In the Garden," "Amazing Grace" and one of Roper's favorites, "Bringing in the Sheaves."
The service ended with a cannon salute by Steve Wanager of the Eliot Militia. A time of sharing and remembrance was held in the parish hall following the service.
Jeffrey P. Westcott
PORTSMOUTH - Jeffrey P. Westcott, 67, of 36 Clinton St., died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at the New Hampshire Hospital in Concord.
He was born on July 3, 1933, in Southampton, England.
He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Va., Class of 1958, and was formerly employed as a teacher at Haverhill High School in Haverhill, Mass.
He was a member of the American Institute of Physics.
There are no known survivors.

Russell Maloy
YORK - Russell Maloy, 73, of Chases Pond Road, husband of Ruth (Page) Maloy, died unexpectedly, Oct. 13, 2000, at York Hospital.
Born Feb. 21, 1927, in Gardiner, Maine, he was the son of Russell D. and Adele M. (Harford) Maloy. He graduated in 1944 from York High School, and served in the Navy during World War II, in the Pacific Arena.
He was an installer and repairman for AT&T from 1954 until his retirement in the early 1980s, and was the only telephone company employee during that time period at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of York-Ogunquit, the York Golf and Tennis Club, and St. Aspinquid Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Eugene Maloy of Algiers, La.; one daughter, Karen and her husband, James Prichard, of York; a half-sister, Norma Layne of West Gardiner, Maine; two grandsons, Douglas Goslin of Seattle and Michael Boardman of Germany; and one great-grandson, Jakob Kai Boardman of Germany.
MALOY - Russell of Chases Pond Road, York, died Oct. 13, 2000, at York Hospital. Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sweetser Children's Home, 50 Moody St., Saco, ME 04072. Arrangements by Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, York.
William J. Hamilton
HAMPTON - The funeral for William J. Hamilton, 81, of 15 Philbrook Terrace was held Saturday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The Rev. Deborah Knowlton, pastor of the First Congregationalist Church, Hampton, officiated. Jean Goss was organist.
Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with committal prayers by the Rev. Knowlton. The flag that covered the casket was folded and presented to Mr. Hamilton's widow, Claire Hamilton, by a detachment of personnel from the Brunswick Naval Air Station in Maine.
Scottish laments were accorded by Matthew Norton. Pallbearers were Richard Grenier, Allen Hodgdon, David Hamilton, John Vomvoris and David Fogg.
Albert Daniel Frisbee
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Albert Daniel Frisbee, 70, of 41 Vanderpool Drive, Hampton, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Friday, with services at St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. Timothy Rich, rector, officiated. The poem "The Unknown Shore" was read by Walter Coffen, and family reflections were given by Thomas Morin. Dr. John Wicks was the organist. In attendance were members of St. John's Episcopal Church and representatives from the Kittery Fire Department and Pepperidge Farms. Burial was in Sagamore Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Rich. Bearers were Thomas Morin, Robert Morin, Richard Baskin, Walter Coffen, Bob Dennis and Alan Dennis.
Thalia A. Brusquini
BRADENTON, Fla. - Mrs. Thalia A. Brusquini, 88, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, in Bradenton, Fla.
Born June 23, 1912, in Greenfield, Mass., she was a graduate of Notre Dame College in Manchester, N.H.
Before residing in Bradenton, she had lived in Holiday, Fla., and Manchester, N.H.
She had been an elementary school teacher in Manchester and belonged to the American Association of University Women.
Survivors include a daughter, Sandra True of Bradenton; a son, Jon Brusquini, also of Bradenton; a sister-in-law, Kaino Bergstrom of Nashua, N.H.; and three grandchildren, Jon-Peter F. Smith of Cambridge, Mass., Gordon T. Smith of Exeter, N.H., and Susan Ledrum and her husband, Peter, of Exeter, N.H.
Private services were held.

Albert A. Bovyn Jr.
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Albert A. Bovyn Jr., 85, of 226 Marcy St., were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel on Thursday. The Rev. Dawn Shippee, pastor of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth, officiated. The American flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to his son, Thomas J. Bovyn. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Hope, N.J.
Phyllis M. Mallen
PORTSMOUTH - Phyllis M. Mallen, 88, of 131 Woodbury Ave., passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at the Mark Wentworth Home.
Born Nov. 26, 1911, at 64 Pine St. in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Joseph and Julia (Brennan) Martineau. She grew up on the family farm on Woodbury Avenue in the Creek. She was a graduate of St. Patrick School, Portsmouth High School and Portsmouth Business College.
She was employed for several years at the National Gypsum Co., and later went to work for the Probation Department of the state of New Hampshire, from which she retired in 1976.
She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church and the St. Catherine Women's Club.
She was the widow of Charles Raymond 'Skip' Mallen, who died in 1986.
Survivors include one son, Peter Mallen of Cohasset, Mass.; four daughters, Julia Martin of Portsmouth, Ann Ashenhurst of Nashua, N.H., Katherine Mallen of Portsmouth and Suzanne Hutcherson of Virginia Beach, Va.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and a twin brother, Lt. Col. Frederick Martineau of Ventnor, N.J.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Demers and Clarice Martineau.
MALLEN - Phyllis M. Mallen, 88, of 131 Woodbury Ave., died Oct. 13, 2000. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church at 1 p.m. Monday. Patricia J. Smallwood
HAMPTON - Patricia J. (Duffy) Smallwood, 51, formerly of Lynn, Mass., died Thursday at her home, after a lengthy period of illness. She was the wife of Thomas M. Smallwood, her husband of 21 years.
Born and raised in Lynn, she was the daughter of Jean (Lezzelle) Duffy of Exeter and the late William Duffy. She had lived in New Hampshire since 1995.
She attended Lynn schools, was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School Class of 1966, and had lived in Lynn until 1987, when she moved to Beverly.
She obtained her bachelor's degree in business education from Salem State College and her master's degree in business education from New Hampshire College. She was a teacher at St. Mary's High School, Lynn, Mass., Marion Court Jr. College, Swampscott, Mass., and, most recently, Endicott College and New Hampshire Technical College, where she had worked prior to her illness.
She had recently begun playing the piano, and her hobbies included the computer and investment clubs.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas, of Hampton; her mother "Jean" Duffy of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.
SMALLWOOD - Patricia J. (Duffy), 51, formerly of Beverly and Lynn, Mass., daughter of Jean (Lezzelle) Duffy of Exeter and the late William Duffy, died Oct. 12. Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday from the Solimine Landergan and Rhodes Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Route 129), Lynn, MA (telephone 781-595-1492), followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Lynn. Burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday.
Margaret Whittemore
ELIOT - Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Whittemore, who died Oct. 9, 2000, at the York Hospital, were held Thursday at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road in Kittery. The Rev. Father Real Nadeau of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Kittery officiated. Organist was Barbara Kenney.
A graveside committal service and burial followed at Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot.
Delegations from the town of Eliot Board of Selectman, the Eliot Highway Department, the Eliot Police Department along with staff members from the Eliot Town Office were present at the funeral.
Bearers were: Stacy Levesque of Portsmouth and Jeffrey Shisler, Stephen Ocser, John Jordon, Kelly Goodwin and Will Shapleigh, all of Eliot.
Friends and relatives gathered at the home of Bill and Patricia Shapleigh after the services, for a time of reflection, sharing memories and refreshments.
Helen F. Colliander
HAMPTON - The funeral for Helen F. Colliander, 77, of 7 Colby St., who died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, was held Thursday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial was concelebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. Gorge E. Ham, pastor, and the Rev. Michael J. Griffin, senior priest, were the celebrants. Deacon Paul Testa assisted and offered the gospel reading.
Nelson K. Ward was organist and Patricia Mackenesen was soloist. Acolytes were Edward Schreirer, Paul Sullivan and Pete Casavant. The pall was placed over the casket by her children, John D. Colliander, Linda J. Webb, Gail F. Mears, Janet M. Martel and daughter-in-law Deb Colliander.
Bonnie Searle and Kathryn Limric offered the readings. The Responsorial Psalm was offered by Stacey Brown and Ashley Bisson, and the Prayer of the Faithful was offered by Jakki Webb. Karen Bickham and Chelsea Martel presented gifts to the altar. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery with the Rite of Committal conducted by Father Ham and Deacon Testa.
Pallbearers were John D. Colliander, Kiel Bisson, Michael Moulton, David Mears, Thomas Webb and Robert Martel. An honor guard was formed at the church by the Catholic Women's Club, St. Vincent de Paul and Holy Name Societies.
William J. Hamilton
HAMPTON - William J. Hamilton, 81, of 15 Philbrook Terrace died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at the Seacoast Health Center.
Born April 13, 1919, in Haverhill, Mass., he was the son of the late David and Bessie (Stevens) Hamilton.
A resident of Hampton for most of his life, he attended Hampton schools, graduating from Hampton Academy in 1937. He also attended U.S. Navy Supply Corps School in Toledo, Ohio. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II as a chief petty officer.
He worked for Sandler of Boston as a purchasing agent and before his retirement was a comptroller and purchasing agent for J.D. Cahill Co. of Hampton.
He was a member of the Hampton American Legion Post No. 35 for more than 50 years, served on the board of directors for the Exeter Country Club, was a holder of a commercial pilot's license, and was a member of the Aircraft Owners Pilots Association.
He was the husband of Claire (Daeris) Hamilton and would have celebrated 47 years of marriage on Thanksgiving Day.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was predeceased by a sister, Myra Weeks and three brothers, Robert, Arthur and D. Malcolm Hamilton.

Theresa M. McMaster
CENTER OSSIPEE, N.H. - Theresa M. McMaster 70, of 40 Bay Point Road, formerly of Portsmouth, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at her home.
Born July 17, 1930, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of Donald and Sarah (Beaton) McMaster and was a lifelong resident here before moving to Center Ossipee a year and a half ago. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1948, and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Lowell, Mass.
She was employed by Dr. Stanley Machaj for 30 years and after his retirement she worked for Dr. Richard Attenborough for 10 years.
She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
An avid golfer, she was a former member of the Wentworth Fairways and the Portsmouth Country Club.
She is survived by two sisters, Catherine M. Colen of Rye and M. Rita Harte of Center Ossipee with whom she resided; four nieces; nine nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister Mary C. Simpson.
McMASTER - Theresa M. McMaster 70, of Center Ossipee, formerly of Portsmouth, died Oct. 12, 2000.
