Ernest F. Boetti
HAMPTON - Services for Ernest F. Boetti, 67, of 85 Riverside Drive, Fremont, who died Nov. 24, 2000, were held Tuesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The Rev. Clifford Vendt of Whitefield officiated. Celia Friend was organist. Masonic services were also conducted by the Gideon Lodge No. 84 F.&A.M. of Kingston. Many friends offered words of remembrance.
Mrs. Catherine Bennett
ARLINGTON, Texas - Mrs. Catherine (Dowling) Bennett, 94, the widow of Winthrop Wilson Bennett, of 504 Duncan Perry Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at the Delworth Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Arlington.
She was born in Port Clyde, Nova Scotia, on Nov. 19, 1906, the daughter of the late Elmer and Georgina (Stoddard) Dowling.
She was formerly employed as an office clerk for Chevron.
She was a member of the Greenland Community Congregational Church in Greenland, N.H., and was a member of the Women's Guild of the church.
Survivors include one daughter, Harriett Hanson of Grand Prairie; five grandchildren, Lorraine Schemel of Ohio, Mark Bennett, Cheryl Bennett and Joseph Bennett, all of Massachusetts, and Star Cook of Texas; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette Shine of Greenland; and many nieces and nephews.
BENNETT - Mrs. Catherine (Dowling) Bennett, 94, of 504 Duncan Perry Road, Arlington, Texas, died Nov. 29, 2000. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Greenland Community Congregational Church in Greenland, N.H. Friends are invited. Visiting hours are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at J. Elsie Allard
HIRAM, Maine - Elsie Allard, 100, of Allard Circle, holder of the Boston Post Cane honor as the oldest citizen of Hiram, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Varney Crossing Nursing Care Center, North Berwick.
Born Aug. 16, 1900, in Eaton, she was the daughter of Leslie H. and Ettabelle Canney Thurston. Since her mother died young, she was brought up by her grandmother, Mary Davis Thurston.
She was educated in Eaton schools.
In her early 20s, she had charge of the dining room at Kearsarge Hall, North Conway, N.H. She moved to Kezar Falls, following her grandmother's death and became a seamstress at a pant shop there. She was an original member of a civic group there called the 21 Club, which still exists.
At age 72, and after four tries, she learned to drive and received a driver's license and drove until she was 98 years old.
She married Fred R. Allard in 1924. Her son, Maynard Allard, was handicapped, and following many operations on his legs, she was able to do physical therapy to enable him to walk without braces and to become an active independent adult.
She often accompanied her husband lake fishing and ice fishing.
From 1942 to 1945 she was a member of the ground observer corps of the USAF Defense Team, manning an observatory tower at night.
Her work as a woolen weaver at Kezar Falls Woolen Mills spanned a period of nearly 30 years.
Her memberships in civic groups including 63 years in the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 123, with two years as president; Fidelis Class of Methodist Church; charter member and first secretary of Sacopee Valley Senior Citizens; Parsonsfield Cooperative Extension; Ancient Landmarks Society of Parsonsfield; Rathbone Temple of Pythian Sisters of South Windham Life Member; Cumberland/Oxford Union of Pomona Grange; Charter Oak Grange of South Hiram; Porter-Parsonsfield & Hiram Historical societies; also Freedom (NH) Historical Society; and work with Special Olympics and Maine Iris Society. She was also a member of the Ruggers of Kezar Falls and Friends of ParSem of Parsonsfield.
She enjoyed rug-hooking, crocheting, making quilts, crafts, bird watching, flower gardening (roses and irises) and grange suppers.
She was predeceased by her husband, who died in 1975, and a son, Merton Allard in 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Allard Ward of Center Ossipee, and Ruth Allard Paul of Stratham, N.H.; two grandsons, Gary Ward of Cheverly, Md., and Joel Paul of Portsmouth, N.H.; three granddaughters, Joanne Chadbourn of Strafford, N.H., Laurie Noblett of Asheville, N.C., and Lorraine Bitomski of Stratham; and five great-grandchildren.
ALLARD - Elsie Allard, 100, of Allard Circle, Hiram, Maine, died Nov. 28, 2000. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Neal & York Funeral Home, 12 High St., Kezar Falls, followed by a graveside service at 11 a.m. Monday at Kezar Falls Burial Grounds. Pastor Beverly Blaisdell will officiate. Memorial donations in her name may be made to Sacopee Rescue, P.O. Box 367, Parsonsfield, ME 04047.
Arthur W. Eaton
NORTH HAMPTON - The funeral for Arthur W. Eaton, 74, of 34 Hobbs Road, who died Nov. 25, 2000, was held Wednesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Services were conducted in the United Church of Christ. The Rev. Mike Mulberry, pastor, officiated.
Gail Adams was organist and directed the church choir. His daughter, Debra A. Eaton and son, Donald D. Eaton, offered words of remembrance. Burial followed in the Center Cemetery with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Mulberry. The U.S. flag was presented to Mr. Eaton's widow, Anna E. (King) Eaton.
Pallbearers were William Columbia, Ronald Demo, George Kearney, David Chevalier, Richard Cumming and Richard Maddock.
Nancy Diane Fogg
DOVER - Miss Nancy Diane Fogg, 67, of 56 Glenwood Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Portsmouth on July 15, 1933, the daughter of the late Edna (Gross) Fogg.
She attended the Great Bay School in Newington and was active with the Salvation Army in Portsmouth.
She is survived by two sisters, Doris M. Carmel of Portsmouth and Avis L. Langley of Kittery, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

Roswell Park Galvin
EXETER - Roswell "Ross" Park Galvin, formerly of 277 Water St., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.
He was born Oct. 22, 1907, in Everett, Mass., the son of the late Joseph and Rena (Carpenter) Galvin. He was educated in Londonderry.
He was honored as outstanding salesman at Harvard Brewing Co. of Boston in 1932. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps. His tour of duty was in the South Pacific.
In 1953 he moved to Hampton and was a salesman for North Hampton Supply Co. before opening Atlantic Supply Plumbing & Heating Co. of North Hampton. He was vice president of Webb Inc. of Portsmouth and, before retiring in 1979, he was a salesman for Heating Specialties Co. of Nashua.
He was active in the Lions Club of Hampton and served as king Lion from 1966 to 1967. He also was the exalted ruler of the North Hampton Lodge of Elks.
He was the husband of the late Winifred M. (Connolly) Galvin.
Family members include one son, Roswell Galvin Jr., and friend, Dorothy Ward, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; one daughter, Noreen Johnson, and husband, William, of Fremont; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Irving Galvin and his wife, Mildred, of Miami; two daughters-in-law, Theresa Galvin of Bayonette, Fla., and Nell Galvin of Hopkinsville; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sons, John Galvin, who died in 1997, and Walter Galvin, who died in 1999; three sisters; and two brothers.
GALVIN - Roswell "Ross" Park Galvin, formerly of 277 Water St., Exeter, died Nov. 28, 2000. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Michael's Church, Front Street, Exeter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, North Hampton. The family requests that there be no visiting hours and that flowers be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.
Anita Holland
PORTSMOUTH - Anita Holland, 87, formerly of 133 Court St., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 2, 1913, in Portsmouth, the daughter of Clemete and Carmella Bellacome, and was a lifelong resident here.
The widow of Joseph Holland, who died in 1971, she is survived by two sons, Joseph Holland of Atkinson, and Thomas Holland of Portsmouth; two daughters, Janet Amato of California, and Mary Hansen of Lincoln, Neb.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Angelo Bellacome, and a sister, Mary Fleiter, both of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
HOLLAND - Anita Holland, 87, formerly of 133 Court St., Portsmouth, died Nov. 28, 2000. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association of N.H., 20 Merrimack St., Manchester, NH 03101.
William Clarke Hayward
YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - William "Bill" Clarke Hayward died peacefully on Nov. 16, 2000, in Cortland Manor, N.Y., with his wife, Christina, by his side.
Born June 4, 1928, in Portsmouth, N.H., he was the ninth child of Guy Alden and Sarah Clarke Hayward.
He was a member of a family that dates back to 1652 in the Portsmouth area.
He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters Alta, Ernest, Geraldine, Lois, Guy, Charles and Paul.
He is survived by his son, William, and daughter-in-law, Charlene; his daughters, Sarah Seybolt and Paula Dallas; his stepson, Christopher; his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister, Wanga Noceri, of New London, Conn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins who reside in Portsmouth and the surrounding area.
He grew up in a proud, loving family, surrounded by many friends and neighbors who survived good times and hard times on Marcy Street in Portsmouth's Puddle Dock. He and his wife returned to Portsmouth frequently to visit family and friends and had made plans to return to live here.
As a youth, he apprenticed to his grandfather William Hayward, whose boat yard stood for many years in the area now known as Prescott Park. He served four years in the Pacific during World War II. In 1948 he moved to Yonkers, N.Y., where he attended Cooper Union College of Engineering. He retired in 1990 from the largest mechanical big-pipe project on the East Coast - the $200 million rejuvenation of the Croton Reservoir system for New York City.
He was a member of the Yorktown Country Club and served as president of the Lions Club. He coached Pop Warner football, baseball and basketball; and was honored as Citizen of the Year in Yorktown Heights.
He owned the Black Watch Stables for children and adult horseback riders.
He is best known for his many hours of devotion to the youth of his community.
A memorial service celebrating his life was held on Sunday, Nov. 19, at the chapel in Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, N.Y. Father George of the Greymoor Friars of the Atonement delivered the sermon.
Eulogies were given by his wife, Christina, and his son, William.
A memorial service will be held in Portsmouth in the spring.
