Sophie Severino

EAST BOSTON, Mass. - Sophie Severino, 84, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at the Benjamin Healthcare Center, Boston.

Born Sept. 30, 1916, in Peabody, Mass., she was the daughter of Maxim and Katerina (Shepensky) Pasdnick.

Survivors include her daughter, Cynthia Tracy of North Hampton, N.H.; grandchildren, Joseph Boudreau of Rochester, N.H., Janice Green of Dover, N.H., Marlene Succi of Portsmouth, N.H. Melinda Diaz of South Carolina and Denise Sharp of Tennessee.

She was predeceased by her son, Michael Severino of East Boston, with whom she lived.

Services and burial are private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements under the direction of Rapino Memorial Home, 9 Chelsea St., East Boston, MA 02128.

Norman W. Towle

HAMPTON - The service for Norman W. Towle, 96, of 103 Mace Road, who died Nov. 19, 2000, was held Saturday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory.

The Rev. Carroll Moore, pastor of the United Methodist Church, officiated.

The Hampton area Lions Club, under the direction of Past President Wesley Balsiger, also conducted services.

Neighbors and members of the Lions Club offered words of remembrance.

Private interment was on Friday in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill, Mass., with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Moore.

Glenn A. Spinney

STRATHAM - Glenn A. Spinney, 61, of Stratham, formerly of North Hampton, died suddenly on Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Rye.

Born March 1, 1939, he was the son of the late Ralph N. and Ruth Gerry Spinney of Kittery, Maine.

He was a graduate of R.W. Traip Academy and was in the Army Reserves.

He was retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he worked as a planner and estimator.

He had part-time jobs after his retirement, the last being at Tru-Value Hardware Store in Exeter.

He enjoyed playing golf and bowling, and was an avid reader.

Survivors include his brother, Ralph E. Spinney of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a niece, Carol A. Rivers of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a nephew, David B. Spinney of Coral Springs, Fla.; a great-niece, a great-nephew and many cousins.

There will be no funeral service as requested.

Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Eliot, Maine.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine.

Thomas Sheppard

PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Thomas Sheppard, 82, of 54 Ceres St., were held Saturday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth. The Rev. Vivan Martindale, pastor of the Middle Street Baptist Church, officiated.

Words of remembrance were given by granddaughter Kristen Rozelle, grandson-in-law Michael LaLime and longtime friend Wilbur Perkins.

Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Martindale.

The flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to Mr. Sheppard's wife, Mrs. Elsie "Dickie" (Pike) Sheppard.

Bearers were Tommy Aylward, Michael LaLime, James O'Callaghan, Ray Hughes and Tim Rozelle.

Lewis W. Mitchell

ENFIELD, N.Y. - Lewis W. "Mitch" Mitchell, 74, of Enfield, widower of the late Rose Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, N.Y.

He leaves his wife Lillian; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Joyce Snodgrass, of Methuen, Mass; two daughters, Joyce Oelschlager of Eliot, Maine, and Barbara Webber of Somersworth, N.H.; three brothers, Willie and Simon Mitchell of East Orange, N.J., and Melvin Mitchell of Dryden, N.Y.; three sisters, Anna Thomas and Elaine Feagin of Ithaca, and Cecelia Dunham of Trumansberg, N.Y.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the Army and Air Force.

He had 42 years of military service and retired from Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, N.H.

He resided in Portsmouth, Eliot and South Berwick, Maine, for 25 years before moving to New York recently.

He was a giving person and was well-known and loved by all who knew him.

Malissa A. Greeley

EPPING - Malissa A. (Sadler) Greeley, 30, of Depot Road, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, after a courageous battle against Hodgkin's disease.

A native of Exeter, she was born Aug. 16, 1970.

She was the daughter of Donald and Antoinette (Szuchnicki) Sadler of Florida.

A graduate of Exeter High School, she also graduated from the New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Part-Time Police Academy.

She was a special deputy for the Rockingham County Sheriff's Department; a part-time police officer for the University of New Hampshire Campus Police Department; an EMT and firefighter for the Kingston Fire Department; and most recently worked as a dispatch supervisor for the Sheriff's Department and was a member of the Rockingham County Law Enforcement Officers Association.

She was also a member of the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Officers Association.

She is survived by her husband of one year, Michael Greeley of Epping; a stepdaughter, Amber Greeley; a sister, Dawn and David Hicks of Las Vegas; her paternal grandmother, Gladys Sadler, as well as her parents.

GREELEY - Malissa A. (Sadler) Greeley, 30, of Depot Road, Epping, died Nov. 30, 2000.

Calling hours will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., Sunday, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Church, Front Street, Exeter.

Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Kingston.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Rockingham County Law Enforcement Officers Association, 51 Long Hill Road, Raymond, NH 03077, to establish a scholarship fund in her name.

Brewitt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Nancy Diane Fogg

PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Miss Nancy Diane Fogg, 67, of 56 Glenwood Ave., Dover, were held Friday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth. The Rev. Donald Gum, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, officiated.

In attendance were representatives from the Community Developmental Services and Options.

Burial was in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot, Maine, with committal services by the Rev. Gum.

Arnold Adams Craig

DOVER - Arnold Adams Craig, 90, of 11 Elliott Park, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital, after a period of failing health.

Born July 4, 1910, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Asa and Alice (Rhinewaldt) Craig.

He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, a Navy veteran and was employed as an accountant with Moore Business Forms until his retirement in May 1975.

He was a Dover resident since 1940.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hockey, hiking and baseball.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Persis Emily (Dunton) Craig of Dover; two sons, Ernest of Dover and Edward of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. John (Lorraine) Dalgety of Farmington; three grandchildren, William and Timothy Craig and Karen Haley; and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Sarah.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence, and a sister, Gertrude.

CRAIG - Arnold Adams Craig, 90, of 11 Elliott Park, Dover, died Nov. 30, 2000.

Friends and relatives may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, with the Rev. David L. Slater, pastor, First Parish Church, Congregational, officiating.

Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the New England Organ Bank, One Gateway Center, Newton, MA 02458.

Ronald Francis Dow

P0RTSMOUTH - Ronald Francis Dow, 59, of 571 Dennett St., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at York Hospital.

Born July 4, 1941, in Portsmouth, he was the son of George and Helen (Carkin) Dow.

He graduated from Portsmouth High School, Class of 1959, and served in the Coast Guard.

He was employed with the Postal Service, retiring in 1996 with 30 years of service.

He was a 35-year member of the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks and a past exalted ruler.

He was also a member of the Creek AC.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Ramona (Lavigne) Dow; two brothers, Louis L. Dow and his wife, Beverly, of Greenland, and Joe Dow and his wife, Jacqueline, of Portsmouth; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Camille and Patrick Crowley; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four brothers, George R. Dow, Lt. Col. Charles W. Dow, Phillip W. Dow, Richard S. Dow and a sister, Joyce M. Kent.

DOW - Ronald Francis Dow, 59, of 571 Dennett St., Portsmouth, husband of Ramona (Lavigne) Dow died Nov. 30, 2000.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Monday, at St. Catherine of Siena Church.

Visiting hours are from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, at the Farrell Funeral home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.

Family flowers only, please. Memorials may be made to the United Way of the Greater Seacoast, 71 International Drive, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Anita Holland

PORTSMOUTH - Anita Holland, 87, formerly of 133 Court St., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She was born Oct. 2, 1913, in Portsmouth, the daughter of Clemete and Carmella Bellacome, and was a lifelong resident here.

The widow of Joseph Holland, who died in 1971, she is survived by two sons, Joseph Holland, of Atkinson, and Thomas Holland, of Portsmouth; two daughters, Janet Amato, of California, and Mary Hansen, of Lincoln, Neb.; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Angelo Bellacome, of Portsmouth; two sisters, Mary Fleiter, of Portsmouth, and Rose Gregory, of Warren, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

Evelyn G. Allen

HAMPTON - Evelyn G. Allen, 93, of 236 Drakeside Road, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at the Seacoast Health Center.

A lifelong resident of Hampton, she was born here April 9, 1907, one of 11 children, the daughter of the late John H. and Hulda (Pearson) Davis.

Her ancestors settled Bride's Hill in Hampton.

She attended the United Methodist Church and was a charter member of Tide Mill Chapter No. 67 O.E.S., but her greatest achievement was the love and kindness she gave to her family.

She was the wife of the late Carl Edward Allen, who died in 1987.

Family members include three daughters, Caroline Bates of Hampton, Marion Scaggs of Venice, Fla., and Lois Page of Hampton; one brother, John H. Davis of Gooding, Idaho; seven grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Private services were held Thursday at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The Rev. Dr. Wilbert D. Gough officiated.

Jean Goss was organist.

Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery with committal service conducted by the Rev. Gough.

Pallbearers were James Bates, Charles Scaggs, Alan Scaggs, Howard Page III, Carl Page, Jason Page, Nathan Page and Howard Page IV.

If desired, donations may be made to the Shriner's Burn Institute, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114; or to a charity of one's choice.

Carolyn Martindale Blouin

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Carolyn Martindale Blouin, 92, of South Berwick, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Dover, N.H.

Born at Sweet Briar College in Amherst, Va., she was the daughter of Carrie Kimble Martindale and Ross Van Arsdale Martindale.

She is survived by her husband, Maurice F. Blouin of Langdon Place in Dover; a daughter, Deborah of Tempe, Ariz.; two sons, Denault of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Craig of Henniker, N.H.; and two grandsons.

She was a graduate of Sweet Briar College and was involved with the college throughout her life.

In 1948, having lived in Baltimore, New Jersey and Boston, she and her husband wanted to leave the city for the country.

They brought their young family to South Berwick, where they founded a business, Maurice F. Blouin Inc., which manufactured visual merchandising products for the banking industry.

She worked for the company during its early years and contributed greatly to its ongoing success.

She loved South Berwick and participated in town affairs until her health faltered in recent years.

In 1970-71, she was instrumental in founding the South Berwick Public Library, a lasting achievement she looked back on with quiet pride.

She was the Rotary Club's Citizen of the Year in 1994.

She was a marvelous hostess.

The Blouin's Christmas Open House at their home, Old Joy Farm, was an annual event for nearly 40 years.

She was an activist.

As a Republican in the 1950s, she became active in the Maine Chapter of The League of Women Voters.

In the early '60s, she joined the civil rights struggle, becoming active in the Seacoast Council on Race and Religion (SCORR) and the Portsmouth chapter of the NAACP.

She participated in the 1963 March on Washington.

Listening to Martin Luther King Jr. deliver his famous speech was one of the most memorable and empowering moments of her life.

She became active in the Democratic Party as well as several organizations that work toward world peace and unity.

Carolyn Blouin was known for her honesty and generosity, and for her uncompromising commitment to creating tangible benefits for others: socially, politically, environmentally and spiritually.

Gifted with a sparky sense of humor, kind, flexible, open, ever-curious, she never gave up on anyone or anything.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Whipple Arts Center at Berwick Academy on Academy Street, South Berwick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the South Berwick Public Library, Portland Street, South Berwick, ME 03908; or the Great Works Regional Land Trust, P.O. Box 151, South Berwick, ME 03908.
