Mary L. Naves

HAMPTON - The funeral for Mary (Lamprey) Naves, 90, former longtime resident of North Hampton, was held Wednesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Kenneth G. Lawrence, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hampton Falls, officiated. Jean Goss was organist. Charlotte Naves, daughter-in-law of Mrs. Naves, offered words of remembrance. Among those in attendance was a delegation from the Eventide Home of Exeter. Burial followed in the Little River Cemetery, North Hampton with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Dr. Lawrence.

Lorraine A. Francis

NORTH HAMPTON - Lorraine A. Francis, 69, of 115 Lafayette Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999 at Exeter Hospital.

Born May 2, 1930, in Essex Junction, Vt., she was the daughter of the late Perley G. and Laura M. (Greenough) Parizo.

She had been a Seacoast resident since 1959 and had lived in North Hampton since 1971.

She worked as a histologist and EKG technician at Exeter Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1992.

She was a communicant of St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach.

She was the wife of Leonard J. Francis for 52 years.

In addition to her husband, family members include one daughter, Carol ANn Szumita of North Hampton; a son, Peter J. Francis, also of North Hampton; and four grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Arnold F. Parizo.

Joseph J. Ramey

LAWRENCE, Mass. - Joseph John Ramey, 74, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999 at Lawrence General Hospital.

Born and educated in Lawrence, Mass., he was a member of St. Anthony's Church in Lawrence. He was a self-employed construction contractor for many years until his retirement.

He was the husband of the late Rose (Pappalardo) Ramey.

Survivors include a son, Joseph K. Ramey and his wife, Sherial, of Salem, N.H.; four daughters, Christina Rose and her husband, Peter Ransom, of North Berwick, Maine, Sharon Rose and her husband, Dennis Fleury, of Tewksbury, Mass., Denise Rose and her husband, Daniel Mendoza, of Pelham, N.H. and Tiffany Ramey of Lawrence, Mass.; a brother, Fred Ramey of Methuen; three sisters, Gloria Lamphier of North Andover, Mass., Jay Habbib of Florida and Adelle Gross of New York; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen L. Shine

HAMPTON - Helen L. Shine, 84, of 95B Winnacunnet Road, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at the Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.

Born Feb. 3, 1915, in Lynn, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Herbert E. and Jane A. (Keating) Kelley. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School in Lawrence, Mass., and moved to Hampton in 1947.

She was a longtime employee of the Hampton Beach Casino.

A communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, she was also a former member of the Women's Club of the church.

She was the wife of the late Arthur A. Shine, who died in 1994. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Maureen A. Bateman, who died in 1997.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia J. Morgan and her husband, Duffy, of Hampton and Carol L. Simard and her husband, Gary, also of Hampton; a son-in-law, Gerald "Jerry" Bateman of North Andover, Mass.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward C. Sharkey

SEABROOK - Edward C. Sharkey, 72, of 81 Railroad Avenue, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.

Born Dec. 29, 1926, in Taunton, Mass., he was the son of the late John and Mary (Megan) Sharkey. He lived in the Seabrook area for several years, working in admissions at the Seabrook Greyhound Park for over 25 years, for which he was very proud.

Clayton S. Raynes

KITTERY POINT - Clayton S. Raynes, 74, of 31 Crockett's Neck Road, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at his residence.

Born April 12, 1925, in York, Maine, he was the son of Sherman and Emma (Randall) Raynes and attended local schools.

He was a volunteer for the Kittery Point Fire Department, an automobile racing fan as well as a fan of country music.

Survivors include his son, James Raynes of Kittery Point; two brothers, Lester and Sherman Raynes, both of Kittery Point; two sisters, Bertha Philbrook of Kittery Point and Shirley Raynes of Kittery; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol Callioras

LEBANON - Carol "Jean" Callioras, 60, of 13 Fairview Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at her residence.

Born Dec. 26, 1938, in Hanover, N.H., she was the daughter of the late James E. Kendall and Evelyn (Dickerson) Kendall. She was a 1956 graduate of West Lebanon High School and worked for the New Hampshire Department of Labor. She also owned and operated Woodbury Grocery in Portsmouth for several years. She returned to the Upper Valley and was employed by Trumbull-Nelson Construction Co. Inc. in Hanover.

Love of antiques led her to open Blue Bird Antiques & Collectibles in Enfield. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and going to flea markets.

She is survived by her mother of West Lebanon, N.H.; three sons, Steven Callioras of Hampton, Charles Callioras of Peru, N.Y., and David Schaffer of Flagstaff, Ariz; two daughters, Linda Callioras Kerrigan of Enfield, and Pamela Hutt-Callioras of Lebanon; longtime partner and friend Alfred Depetrillo of Lebanon; two brothers, Richard Kendall of Etna, N.H., and Frederick Kendall of Dunlap, Ill.; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father and a sister, Elizabeth Mock.

Pauline G. Dowd

SOUTH BERWICK - Pauline G. Dowd, 39, of 144 Witchtrot Road, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at her home in the company of her family. She had been fighting cancer for many years.

Raised on Long Island, N.Y., she was a theater major at SUNY-Albany and moved to Portsmouth in 1982. She worked in many area restaurants, including Rosa's, Fazio's, The Stage Neck Inn, York Harbor Inn and, most recently, the Oar House. She also worked for a number of years at Fleet Bank in York and Sanford, and Ocean National Bank in York.

Before moving to South Berwick, she and her husband were caretakers of the Sayward-Wheeler House in York Harbor and were often seen at area historical events.

She was the wife of Brian Dowd. In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Margaret, and too many friends to mention.

Lorraine A. Francis

HAMPTON - The funeral for Lorraine A. Francis, 69, of 115 Lafayette Road, North Hampton, who died Nov. 24, 1999, was held Friday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach. The Rev. Maurice Lavigne, pastor, was celebrant. Walter Parenteau was acolyte and offered the readings. Judith Kish was organist and Judith Silverman was soloist. Cremation followed the Mass in the Phoenix Crematory, Hampton. Pallbearers were Shaun Booker, Dennis Schmitt, Roger Gadbois and Emile Langevin. The rite of committal was conducted Saturday in High Street Cemetery, Hampton, by the Rev. Lavigne.

Anita M. Sullivan

NORTH HAMPTON - Anita M. Sullivan, 60, of 17 Stevens Road, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at her home.

Born June 26, 1939, in Garden City, Kan., she was the daughter of Sylvia (Stewart) Moore of Paramus, N.J., and the late George W. Moore. She was raised in Garden City and resided in Pensacola, Fla., for a period of time. She was a 1961 graduate of the University of Maryland.

She taught school for a short time and later moved to North Hampton in 1968.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Delta Gamma sorority and volunteered at both the North Hampton Public Library and Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

She was the wife of Lloyd D. Sullivan for 39 years.

In addition to her husband and mother, survivors include a son, Lloyd T. Sullivan of Alisoviejo, Calif.; a daughter, Mary P. Johnston of Coronado, Calif.; two grandchildren; a brother, Stuart Moore of Wayne, N.J., a sister, Pamela Crogan of Spruce Pine, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard S. Beaulieu

LEE - Richard S. Beaulieu, 36, of Fernald Lane, died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.

Born May 14, 1963, in Exeter, he was the son of Richard P. and Judith (Ordy) Beaulieu of Hampton. For most of his life, he lived in Middletown, Meriden, and Wallingford, Conn. He moved to New Hampshire 10 years ago. He was a graduate of Wilcox Technical School, Meriden.

For the past four years, he had been employed at the Durham Post Office. He had previously worked as a carpenter.

He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Exeter Council and a 4th Degree member and Past Faithful Pilot of St. Mary's Assembly in Portsmouth.

He was a communicant of the Church of St. Thomas More in Durham.

He had been a volunteer firefighter in Lee and also enjoyed riding motorcycles.

He was the husband of Brenda (Miller) Beaulieu of Lee for 10 years.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include a daughter, Sarah Ann Beaulieu of Lee; two brothers, Jeffrey Beaulieu of Rochester and Daniel Beaulieu of Hampton; a sister, Brigette Baker of Newington, Conn., a father-in-law and mother-in-law, Raymond and Linda Miller of Middletown, Conn.; two sisters-in-law, Pam Cardoza of Middletown, Conn., and Sheri Miller of Portland, Conn.; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a great niece.

Jean E. Chura

HAMPTON FALLS - Jean E. (Rogers) Chura, 55, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, in Danville, Penn., of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born, raised and educated in West Newbury, Mass. She was the daughter of the late Richmond and Rita Rogers.

She was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton. A dedicated volunteer, she was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow in 1997 for community service by the Northern Cambria Rotary Club.

She loved photography, gardening, traveling and long walks on the beach.

She was the wife of Philip Chura, owner and operator of Chura's Photography in Hampton Falls, for 21 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Cheryl Carter and her husband, Edward, of Bradford, N.H.; a son, Michael, of Haverhill, Mass.; a stepson, Philip, of Fitchburg, Mass.; a stepdaughter, Karen Walton, of Leominster, Mass.; a sister, Claire, of New Hampshire; two brothers, Ted, of Georgia, and Richmond, of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Ian and Will Carter, Liamm Rogers and Meghan and Rachel Walton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws and close friends.

She was predeceased by her sister, Yvonne.

Harold W. Clough Sr.

SOUTH BERWICK - Harold W. Clough Sr., 74, of 68 Academy St., died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at his home.

Born April 12, 1925, in South Berwick, he was the son of Charles W. and Mary E. (O'Neil) Clough. He had lived there his whole life.

A Navy Veteran of World War II, He received the European-African Area Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the former South Berwick American Legion Post.

He was a former member of the South Berwick Police Department, having served as chief of Police from 1962 to 1964. He had also worked at the Berwick Academy and was the first plant operator for the South Berwick Sewer District, where he worked for 27 years. He later worked for the Arnold T. Clement Co. of Rochester.

He was a member and former Worshipful Master of the St. John's Lodge No. 51 of Masons and a member of the Scottish Rite.

He liked working with his hands, making toys, the outdoors and hunting. He especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren.

He was the husband of Gabrielle M. (Parent) Clough for 55 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Harold W. Clough Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of South Berwick; a daughter, Colleen Grover, and her husband, John, of Corinna, Maine; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Edward and Linwood Clough.

David G. Hargraves

NEWMARKET - In loving memory of David G. Hargraves, whose life was shortened by a tragedy. Dave was 52 years old and was born on Dec. 11, 1946 in Hampstead, N.H.

Dave was the son of Mary Wells and Gordon D. Hargraves. His stepfather was Henry G. Wells.

Dave leaves behind his newlywed wife, Billie Hargraves; two sons, Shawn Hargraves, 25, and Eric Hargraves, 20; his wife's two sons, Allen, 25, and David, 22; a sister, Laurie Wells; and a brother, Allen Wells.

Dave was a painter for 14 years at Phillips Exeter Academy.

Dave will be missed by all his family and friends, especially at this time of year, but he will NOT be forgotten.

Nancy A. DeVanna

NOKOMIS, Fla. - Nancy Ann (Langille) DeVanna, 48, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999 in Venice, Fla.

Born Sept. 17, 1951, in Patuxent River, Md., she was the daughter of Bruce and Bertha Langille of York. She graduated from York High School in 1969 and attended the Emery School of Court Stenography in Boston, and Hesser College in Portsmouth. A former resident of Eliot, Maine, she moved to Nokomis, Fla. in February 1999.

Survivors include her parents; four daughters, Sheri Rey of Orlando, Fla., Michelle Ercolano of North Port, Fla., Amy Saba of Nashville, Tenn. and Stephanie Watts of Eliot, Maine; two sisters, Cheryl Dixon of Kittery, Maine and Linda Johnson of Nokomis, Fla.; three grandchildren and five nephews.

Norma M. Chomack

GREENLAND - Norma M. Chomack, 76, of 78 Portsmouth Ave., died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

Born July 2, 1923, in Gloucester, Mass., she was the daughter of Fred and Gladys (Dickinson) Tarbox. She had resided on the Seacoast since 1948.

For many years, she was employed as a sales manager at the former Kimball's Department Store in Portsmouth.

She was the wife of Alexander Chomack for 52 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two brothers, Fred Tarbox Jr. and Robert Tarbox, both of Gloucester, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Louise C. Chomack, in 1961.
