Marie A. Hamel
PORTSMOUTH - Marie A. (Tremblay) Hamel, 86, of 248 Peverly Hill Road, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at the Riverside Nursing Home in Dover,
Born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of Joseph and Brigette Boudreau Tremblay.
A former resident of Berlin, N.H., she was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish. Before her retirement several years ago, she had been employed at the Converse Rubber Co.
Survivors include two sons, Norman Baker of California, and Maurice Baker of Connecticut; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Priscilla) Delisle of Portsmouth; a brother, Paul Tremblay of Berlin; a sister, Mrs. Helen Patrick of Berlin; numerous grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne I. Davis
ELIOT - Wayne Irving Davis, 63, of Pleasant Street, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born Nov. 25, 1935, in Portsmouth, N.H., he was the son of Malcom and Ethel (Cole) Davis. He grew up in Eliot and attended Eliot schools, graduating from Eliot High School in 1953. He graduated from Southern Maine Technical School in 1955.
He served in the Army and later in the Army Reserve.
He was the president of the family business, Davis Oil Service Inc. of Eliot.
An active member of the South Eliot Advent Christian Church, he served as Sunday School teacher, a church trustee and as deacon for more than 30 years. He supported the prison ministry Angel Tree, and enjoyed membership in the Washington Advent Christian Camp Meeting Association.
He was also active in many community organizations, including Eliot Little League, the Eliot Recreation Department and was a strong supporter of the Eliot Fire Department and William Fogg Library.
An avid historian, he was a collector of antiques and enjoyed restoring antique automobiles.
He was the husband of Rita (Dixon) Davis for 38 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Susan, and her husband, John Crothers, of Eliot; one son, Kent, and his wife, Deanna Davis, of Alton Bay, N.H.; one brother, Glenn Davis of Portsmouth; and three granddaughters, Leah, Hannah and Lydia Crothers of Eliot.
He was predeceased by his parents; an infant daughter, Sharon Louise Davis; and a brother, Warren Davis.
Sandra L. Hills
HAMPTON - The funeral for Sandra L. Hills, 48, of 78 Braveboat Harbor Road, Kittery, who died Sept. 10, 1999, was held Tuesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton.
Services were conducted in the Second Christian Congregational Church. The Rev. Nelson "Jim" Howard, III, pastor, officiated. Barbara Kenney was organist and Judy Ringer was soloist. Words of remembrance were offered by Mandy Theriault, Karen Muscarello, the Rev. William Baran, former pastor, the Rev. Jill Vogt and several others in the congregation. Representing the York Rainbow Assembly was Shirley Alden.
Burial followed in Orchard Grove Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Howard. Pallbearers were Mark Muscarello, Angelo Muscarello, Victor Kelley, Jim Chandler, Tim Landry, Phil LeClair, Ernest Bowden and Jerry Theriault.
Services were also conducted at the funeral home Monday evening by the Frank E. Booma American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 6 of Portsmouth, under the direction of Betty Sanford, chaplain; Shirley Williams, first vice president; June Daly, P.D.P.; Vivian Snow, P.D.P.; Dottie St. Jock, P.P.; and participants Sandy Tessicini, Lucy Pridham, Gloria Barnes, Brenda Walton, Carol Houle, Karyl Horn, Patricia Belleville, Patty Linn Bancewicz, Bob Finn, Pat Snow, Ed Houle, John Barnes, Carl Walton, Bill Phillip, Eddie Bissognani, Joe Shaw, Kenney Newport and Bill Decker.
Paul W. Richards
EXETER - Paul W. Richards, 76, of 5 Locust Ave., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton.
Born Jan. 13, 1923, in Haverhill, Mass., he was the son of the late Ernest and Pauline (Wason) Richards.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater and was the recipient of numerous medals. He also served with the U.S. Maritime Service during the Korean Conflict. He was a well-known builder in the Seacoast area.
He was the husband of Margery (Roberts) Richards of Exeter.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Paul David Richards of Epping, Robert Richards of Gilmanton, N.H., and John Richards of Exeter; two daughters, Margery Carpenter of Rye and Barbara Richards of Exeter; his twin sister, Pauline Price of Gilmanton, N.H., another sister, Marjorie Rocha of Michigan; a brother, Ernest Richards of Farmington, N.H.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Lila W. Kimball
HANOVER, Md. - Mrs. Lila "Myrtle" (Wilson) Kimball, 87, of 1480 Mordor Lane, and formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at the Knollwood Manor in Millersville, Md.
Born June 10, 1912, in Milford, N.H., she was the daughter of Arthur and Lila (Stitham) Wilson.
She was a member of the Middle Street Baptist Church in Portsmouth, where she sang in the choir.
She was the wife of the late Laurence M. "Posy" Kimball.
Survivors include a daughter, M. Louise McHale of North Grafton, Mass.; a son, Bruce L. Kimball of Hanover, Md.; three grandchildren, Kevin L. Dick of Worcester, Mass., Karen L. Dick of Boston; and Brian M. Kimball of Elkridge, Md.; two step-grandchildren, Deborah Carter of Glen Burnie, Md., and Bill Carter of Wheaton, Md.; and three great-grandsons, Michael and Bryan Dick of Worcester, Mass., and Connor Jakob Kimball of Elkridge, Md.
Edward F. Badger
KITTERY - Edward F. Badger, 79, of 35 Route 236, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at York Hospital in York.
Born July 25, 1920, in Brockton, Mass., he was the son of Edward F. Badger and Edna A. Freeman.
He served in the Army during the European-African and Italy Tour. He earned the Eastern Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal.
He was a professional carpenter and painter throughout the New England area, ending his career at Yoken's restaurant in Portsmouth.
He was lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was an active volunteer for the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Senior Citizens, and the Visiting Nurses Association.
He was recently honored by the Disabled American Veterans for his support with the presentation of a shadow box of his medals earned during his service years.
He was the husband of Grace (Simmons) Badger for 45 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Edward F. Badger III and his wife, Sheila, of Middleton, N.H., and Thomas A. Badger and his wife, Roberta, of Somersworth, N.H.; four daughters, Kathleen R. Tinkham and her husband, Charles, of Falmouth, Mass., Beverly A. Weeden and her husband, Robert, of North Berwick, Ruth E. Bowen and her husband, Donald, of Eliot, and Patricia J. Badger of Eliot; a brother, Robert Badger and his wife, Dorothy, of Brockton, Mass.; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
June S. Blake
PORTSMOUTH - June S. Blake, 70, of 225 McKinley Road, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999.
Born Oct. 13, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of Stacey and Elizabeth (Baker) Blake.
She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
She enjoyed her church activities as well as her three cats.
Survivors include a cousin, Joyce B. Scheen of Portsmouth, and an aunt, Grace Mackey of Sonoma, Calif.
Doris E. Checklick
BREMEN, Ohio - Doris Elaine Checklick, 58, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at her residence.
Born April 21, 1941, in Phillipsburg, N.J., she was the daughter of Donald Earl MacDonald and Evelyn (DeHart) MacDonald.
She was employed at Colony Classic Interiors in Lancaster, Ohio.
She was the wife of Charles M. Checklick.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Michael M. Checklick and his wife, Tammy, of Logan, Ohio; three grandchildren, Charlie, John and Jessica Checklick of Logan, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Newman and her husband, Robert, of DeLand, Fla., Joyce Leonakis and her husband, Billy, of Congers, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, John Checklick and his wife, Sandy, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; two nieces, Susan Checklick of New York City and Nancy Checklick of Washington, D.C.; and two nephews, Bobby Newman of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Michael George Leonakis of Congers, N.Y.
Henry Dannis
KITTERY - Henry Dannis, 82, of Kittery, Maine, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999.
Born Aug. 12, 1917, he served in the Army during World War II and worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement.
He was the husband of Hazel Dannis for 51 years.
At his request, there will be no services.

He also served on the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery Committee.
An avid historian, he was an antiques collector and enjoyed restoring antique automobiles. He stayed at many Christian campgrounds and enjoyed traveling abroad with his family.
He was the husband of Rita (Dixon) Davis of Eliot for 38 years.

Julia E. Hanson
RYE - Julia E. (Adams) Hanson, 91, of 7 Cole-Noyes Ave., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 15, 1907, in West Barnet, Vt., she was the daughter of Philip S. and Catherine E. (Russ) Adams.
She was formerly employed as a housekeeper in the Seacoast area.
She was a member of the Fannie A. Gardner Rebekah Lodge No. 82 and the Pythian Sisters.
She was the wife of the late Charles Hanson Jr.
Survivors include two sons, Charles F. Hanson of Santa Rosa, Calif., and James A. Hanson of Portsmouth; four daughters, Mary L. Richardson of Portsmouth, Julia E. Copley of Lowell, Mass., Anna M. Eldredge of Sanford, Maine, and Barbara R. Crossley of Rye; 24 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera R. Stewart of Bradenton, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Bette J. Callham.
James P. Saunders
YORK BEACH - James Perkins Saunders, 94, of 69 Long Beach Ave., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Harbor Home, York Harbor.
Born Aug. 4, 1905, in York Beach, he was the son of Arthur L. and Florence (Perkins) Saunders. A graduate of Salem (Mass.) High School, he received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1930, and master's degree in education from Boston University in 1932.
For 37 years, he was an educator at Northbridge High School in Whitinsville, Mass. He was a biology teacher and served as vice principal and principal of the school.
He had resided in Whitinsville, summering every year in York Beach from 1905 until moving there several years ago to live with his daughter.
Since 1920, he was a ham radio operator. His call letters were "W1BDV," and he was the first York resident to hear a radio broadcast. He was a member of the American Radio Relay League.
For 31 years, he delivered summer mail at York Beach.
He was the husband of the late Geraldine (Wilson) Saunders. She died in 1981.
Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. David (Jane) Wilson of York Beach; a son, Kenneth Wilson Saunders of Whitinsville, Mass.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
