Mary T. Dickson

MILTON, N.H. - Mary T. Dickson, 90, of 17 Silver St., died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at Kirkwood Corners Home in Lee after a period of failing health.

Born Aug. 9, 1908, in Petersburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Hannah (Tuck) Timmins. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1929 with her bachelor's degree in education.

For many years, she taught at Nute High School.

She was a member of the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association and the Milton Community Church.

She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, gardening and spending time with her family.

She was the wife of the late Franklin B. Dickson, who died in 1969.

Survivors include a son, Ernest F. Dickson of South Berwick; a daughter, Mary D. Allen of West Lebanon, Maine; four grandchildren, Chris Allen of Milton, Jill Farwell of Berwick, Kate Dickson of Nashua, N.H., and Tyler Dickson of South Berwick; one great-grandchild, Justin Farwell of Berwick; and two nephews and a niece.

John E. Coleman Sr.

PORTSMOUTH - John. E. "Eddie" Coleman Sr., 80, of 275 Kearsarge Way, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.

He was born in Portsmouth on March 27, 1919, the son of the late J. Lincoln and Alma G. (Underhill) Coleman. He served in the Army during World War II, stationed in Germany and France.

He was employed as a police officer for the Portsmouth Police Department, retiring after 25 years of service. He was then employed as a custodian for the Portsmouth school department, retiring after 10 years. In January 1995, he was honored by the city of Portsmouth for saving the life of 10-year-old Patricia Morey who fell into the South Mill Pond on her way to school.

He attended the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth and was a member of the state retirement system.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Coleman and his wife, Kelly, of Portsmouth, and Thomas Coleman of Exeter; five grandchildren, Jason Coleman, Jeremy Coleman, Kali Coleman, Thomas Coleman Jr., and Briana Coleman; a sister, Ruth Mercier of Auburn, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, John E. Coleman Jr. in 1991, a brother, Ernest Coleman in 1994, and a sister, Meriam Hohenberger in 1997.

Glenn F. Trueman Sr.

ANN ARBOR, MICH. - Glenn F. Trueman Sr., 59, of Ann Arbor, Mich., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at his home. Formerly of New Castle, he lived in Ann Arbor for eight years.

Born Nov. 16, 1940, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Mildred (Mills) and the Ernest F. Trueman.

A 1957 graduate of Portsmouth High School, he also graduated from New Hampshire Voc-Tech and the University of New Hampshire.

For many years, he was a design engineer for Kingston Warren Corp. in Newfields, and in recent years was a consultant for his company, Tri-Star.

He was a member of the Portsmouth Country Club for 39 years and a communicant of the New Castle Congregational Church.

He was the husband of Cheryl Trueman.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Julie Betts and her husband, Glenn, of Kittery, and Glenn F. Trueman Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, of Kingsport, Tenn.; one granddaughter, Taylor Trueman of Kingsport, Tenn.; a sister, Sandra Newton of Rye; several cousins; nieces and nephews; and his former wife and friend, Patricia Trueman of New Castle.

Funeral services were held in Ann Arbor. Memorial contributions may be sent to the University of Michigan Cancer Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Leon W. Hightower

PORTSMOUTH - Leon W. Hightower, 51, of 45 Anne Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Exeter Hospital.

Born Aug. 22, 1948, in Dawson, Ga., he was the son of the late Robert W. and Mary E. (Smith) Hightower. He was a graduate of Lumpkin High School in Georgia. For many years, he lived in Georgia until he entered the Navy, in which he served for more than 20 years, retiring in 1991.

He had resided in Portsmouth since 1998, moving from Virginia Beach, Va.

He worked as a custodian for the Exeter school system, working in the Main Street and Lincoln Street schools. He also worked in the landscaping department of the Virginia Beach school system.

He was a former member of the Emerson Hovey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 168, Portsmouth.

He was a devoted family man and enjoyed working with children.

He was the husband of Bonnie A. (Nownes) Hightower for 22 years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one brother, Whit Hightower of Georgia; a sister, Rachel Avery of Americus, Ga.; four nephews, several aunts and uncles; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Francis R. Nownes of Hampton.

He was predeceased by a sister, Maryanna McGowen.

Jean Louise Odell

SCARBOROUGH, Maine - Jean Louise (Brackett) Odell, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Maine Veterans Home.

Born Feb. 21, 1925, in Exeter, she was the daughter of Edwin Lamprey and Louise S. (Horton) Brackett. She was a 1942 graduate of Portsmouth High School and attended the Bryant and Stratton School of Boston.

She was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Saco, Maine; Mary Dillingham Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution; past vice president of the Maine Conference of the United Methodist Women; and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also served in the Women's Army Corps from 1945-48 and again from 1950-51.

She was the wife of the late Rev. Perley C. Odell.

Survivors include five daughters, Karen J. Odell of Portland, Dorris L. Smyth of Scarborough, Annette E. Krueger and her husband David of Raymond, Susan C. Odell of Saco, Nancy C. Gilson and her husband Michael of Farmingdale; one son, George E. Odell and his wife Roberta of Dierks, Ark.; six grandchildren, Crystal L. Smyth, Alyssa Rose Krueger, Elizabeth D. Ouellette, Jacqueline L. and Melissa L. Gilson, and Tyler John Odell; and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Patricia Fama of Canton, Mass.; Priscilla Page of Newport, N.H.; Janice Gibbs of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; and Mary Odell of Canton, Mass.; as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother and her sisters.

Shawn M. Wilcox

PORTSMOUTH - Shawn M. Wilcox, 39, of 3205 Lafayette Road, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at his home.

Born Feb. 25, 1960, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Mary L. (LaRoche) Wilcox of Portsmouth, and the late Edward F. Wilcox.

He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.

In addition to his mother, survivors include two brothers, Kim Wilcox and his wife Kimberly of Milton, N.H., and Ralph Wilcox and his wife Rae of Portsmouth; four nephews; one niece; and one great-nephew.

Cecile M. Stone

PORTSMOUTH - Cecile M. Stone, 74, of 65 Benson St., died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Edgewood Centre after a long period of illness.

Born Dec. 29, 1925, in Nashua, she was the daughter of Francois and Laurette (Vines) Corbin. She was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth.

She had been active in the American Legion Post No. 6 Auxiliary.

She was the wife of George E. Stone.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Frank Stone of California; two grandchildren, Aimee Holland and Sean Stone of California; two brothers, Leo Corbin of Portsmouth and Al Corbin of California; a sister, Rita Kamont of Nashua; an aunt, Mrs. Armand (Jeanne) Nourie of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, William Hoyer.

Rita Racine

KITTERY - Rita Racine, 73, of 2 Sunset Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Homestead Nursing Home.

Born Sept. 28, 1926, in Brunswick, Maine, she was the daughter of Eugene and Rose Phillipon St. Pierre. She attended schools in Brunswick.

She was a communicant of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Kittery.

She was the wife of Robert Racine of Kittery for 49 years.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Mark F. Racine and Michel E. Racine, both of Kittery; three daughters, Diane M. Ayyagari of North Andover, Mass., Jeannine R. Racine of Kittery, and Maureen M. Marchant of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Maurice St. Pierre of Manchester, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by a son, Thomas A. Racine.

William G. Swart

DALTON, Pa. - William G. Swartz, 88, died Wednesday, Dec. 15, 1999, at Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock.

Born Feb. 5, 1911, in Newton Township, Pa., he was the son of the late Elmer G. and Edith Shaw Swartz. Before retiring, he owned and operated Swartz Grocery and Diner in Mill City, Pa.

He was a member of the Mill City Assembly of God Church.

He enjoyed reading, music, traveling and his family.

He was the husband of the late Anna Mae Billings, who died in July 1992.

Survivors include two sons, Elmer of Newton, Pa., and Raymond (Jim) of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three daughters, Alice Kircher of Memphis, Tenn., Martha Lott of Meshoppen, Pa., and Lynda Swartz of Hampton Falls, N.H.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral was held on Dec. 18 from the Mill City Assembly of God Church. The Rev. James Rugg, pastor, officiated. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery, Falls Township. Memorial donations may be made to AIDS Response Seacoast, 1 Junkins Ave., Portsmouth, N.H. 03801.

Alfred Zych

ZYCH - Alfred A. Zych Sr., 73, of Grant Road, Newmarket, died March 8, 1999, in Dothan, Ala., after a short period of illness. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, July 23, 1999, in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket. Joseph Schanda, chaplain of the Robert G. Durgin A.L. Post No. 67 of Newmarket, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Newmarket Ambulance Corps, c/o Town Hall, Main Street, Newmarket, NH 03857.

Lieselotte Watson

ROCHESTER - Lieselotte Watson, 66, of 36 Howard Brook Drive, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at her residence after a short period of illness.

Born June 18, 1933, in Regensburg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Karolinia (Mueller) Baumer.

Survivors include a son, Siegfried Watson of Rochester; a brother, Josef Baumer of Regensburg, Germany; and a sister, Karolinia Guptill of Winthrop, Minn.

Donald A. Ring

HAMPTON - The funeral for Donald A. Ring, 86, of 3 Pawnee St., was held Wednesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home.

The Rev. Dr. Kenneth G. Lawrence, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hampton Falls, officiated.

Masonic services were also conducted by St. James Lodge No. 102 F.& A.M., with 20 members in attendance.

Cremation was in the Phoenix Crematory, with the committal service conducted Thursday in High Street Cemetery.

The U.S. flag was presented to his widow, Olive M. (Wood) Langley Ring.
