Evelina May Smith Farrington
LOVELL, Maine - Evelina May Smith Farrington, 62, of Harbor Road Lovell died Sunday Feb. 27, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway. She was born in North Conway on May 17, 1937, the youngest of 10 children the daughter of Charles and Charlotte Sawyer Smith.
She was a life time resident of the Fryeburg and Lovell area, and attended Fryeburg schools, graduating with the class of 1955. She worked at the Green Granite Inn in North Conway since 1976 doing various jobs. Prior to that she worked at Forest Industries in Fryeburg and several resort areas in the Lovell and North Conway area. She was a member of the Harbor Church. She enjoyed helping others, reading, crocheting, and most of all she enjoyed her family.
She leaves her husband of 44 years, Richard T. Farrington, one daughter Rose Ann Johnson; one son, Richard C. Farrington; one grand-daughter Malanie Johnson; one grandson, Andrew Johnson, all of Lovell; two sisters, Violet Fox, Viola Cram, two brothers Austin Smith and Charles Smith, all of Fryeburg.
She was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers Myrtle Fox, Helen Farrington, Albert Smith, Elmer Smith and Everett Smith. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in North Fryeburg.

Merlin Frederick Guptill
PORTLAND, Maine - Merlin Frederick Guptill, 59, of Portland, Maine, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Maine Medical Center following a short illness.
He was born in Jackson. He was the son of Ms. Mildred Hattie Wiggin Burke, a lifelong resident of North Conway, now of Glencliff, and the late Merlin C. Guptill of Jackson.
He is survived by his son, Shawn Hill of Jackson; his sister and brother-in-law, Alice M. Murray and Donald Murray of Jackson; his brother and sister-in-law, Irving E. Guptill and Carey Guptill of Glen; his brother and sister-in-law, Douglas A. MacDonald and Marie MacDonald of South Conway; and his brother, Clinton M. Guptill of Glen.
He was born at Memorial Hospital on November 25, 1940. He attended Jackson Grammar School through the eighth grade and graduated from Kennett High School in 1958. For the last 40-plus years he has been employed by several automobile dealerships in New Hampshire and Maine where he worked as a salesman. He was last employed by Ron's Auto Sales of North Windham, Maine.
He will probably be best remembered for his sharp wit, his ability to tell a wonderful story, his love of music and his hilarious sense of humor. Years ago he had a specialty radio show on the local station where he was known as the Jukebox Junkie. He had a legion of friends who will always remember him as being a happy-go-lucky guy with a devil-may -are attitude.
A memorial service will be held at the Glen Baptist Church in Glen on Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m. He will be buried with a graveside service in the spring at Jackson Village Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Bartlett Jackson Rescue.
Deborah L. Hill
INTERVALE - Deborah L. Hill, 87, of Intervale died on Feb. 26, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a sudden illness. Born in Bartlett, the daughter of Burley and Bertha (Sweet) Hill, she was a lifelong resident of Bartlett.
Deborah had been a farmer for over 65 years and had operated Hills Farm Stand as a tractor driver and wholesaler, in Intervale, since 1958.
She was a member of the Farm Bureau.
The family includes: two sons, Brian M. Hill of Intervale and Donald F. Hill of Redstone; two sisters, Madelon Comings and Bertha Witham, both of North Conway and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home, in North Conway, with the Rev. Laurence D. Brown, officiating. Burial will be in the Glen Cemetery later in the spring. There will be no visiting hours.
Willard G. "Woody" Meeker
FRYEBURG - Willard G. "Woody" Meeker, 78, of Fryeburg, Maine, died Feb. 22, 2000, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center after a long illness.
Born in Norwalk, Conn., the son of Willard and Jean (Peet) Meeker, he moved to North Conway in 1955. After the death of his wife, Martha (Kambolis) Meeker in 1981, he moved to Fryeburg.
Meeker worked for the town of Norwalk, as a tree surgeon, for many years. He and his late wife also owned and operated the Sunnyside Lodge in North Conway, for many years. He also worked with the Youth Conservation Corps in the 1970s.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Meeker-Lowry and MaryJean Meeker, both of Fryeburg; three grandsons, Jason Lowry of Cabot, Vt., Ethan Lowry of Springfield, Mass., and Colin Lowry of Fryeburg; and a great grandson, Nicholas Jay Lowry.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home, in North Conway, with the Rev. Dr. Wesley E. Palmer, officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
J. Cortlandt Tyler
CONWAY - J. Cortlandt Tyler, 97, of North Conway and formerly of Haverhill, Mass., died Feb. 23, 2000, in North Conway.
He was born in Newcastle, Pa., July 31, 1902, the son of the Rev. Charles W. and Mary (Dews) Tyler.
Tyler was a trustee of the former Haverhill Savings Bank. He was a member of Trinity Church in Haverhill; a member of the Fortnightly Club; and a 40-year member of the Merrimack Masonic Lodge, A.F. & M. of Haverhill.
He leaves a daughter, Katharine (Mrs. Gene) Drolet of North Conway; three grandchildren, Susan Ferguson of Ridgefield, Conn., Elizabeth Drolet of Newmarket and D. Tyler Drolet of West Newbury, Mass.; and three great grandchildren, John P. Ferguson III, Carolyn Ferguson and D. Tyler Drolet.
Funeral services will be held in Haverhill, Mass., at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in the Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill.
In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may contribute in his memory to the charity of their choice.

George Lewis Graveson
PLANTATION, Fla. - George Lewis Graveson passed way on Feb. 8, 2000. He was born March, 23, 1904, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the oldest son of Elizabeth and Eli Graveson. Growing up in Brooklyn, he worked as a messenger in the American Telephone and Telegraph legal department, from May 1918 to 1924. During this time, he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve Force as a Fireman 3rd class.
He reenlisted as a Radioman Second Class, and his enlistment expired in 1929. In February, 1930 he was commissioned Ensign USNR with a communications designator. Studying at night and perfecting his skill as a radio operator, in September 1924, he got a job with the United Fruit Company as a ship's radio operator. In March, 1925, he had the opportunity to go to work for the WEAF, a radio station in New York City. WEAF went to NBC in November 1926 and in September 1928, he joined Electrical Research Products International (ERPI), a subsidiary of Western Electric, the engineering division of AT&T.
He married Gertrude Haff, a young nursing student in training at Brooklyn Hospital and moved to Amityville, Long Island. He worked for Western Electric and commuted to New York City via the Long Island Railroad. Graveson was active in local and church activities and kept busy with hobbies of fishing and Ham radio.
In 1939, he was in charge of the audio portion of the General Motors exhibit, Futurama, at the New York World's Fair.
At the outset of World War Two, Graveson took a leave of absence from Western Electric and went on active duty with the Navy, in July, 1941, first working in communications at Third Naval District Headquarters, 90 Church Street and then going overseas to England as Commander for Communications in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS).
He returned home in 1945 and to the retired reserve as a commander. He took up where he left off in 1941 and once again took part in community affairs, becoming president of the board of education of Amityville High School.
In 1954, he became Engineering Director of Radio Free Europe, with offices in Munich, Germany. Continuing in that position for four years. He retired from Western Electric in 1964, and began to spend winters in Florida, eventually moving to Plantation, Fla. full time in 1968. He set up his radio equipment and became a regular member of several Ham nets.
He is survived by his daughters, Ada Fuge of Center Conway and Lillian McGregor, of Sylmar, Calif. and a son Captain G. L. Graveson, Jr. USN (Ret.) of Plantation, Fla. He is also survived by a sister, Ruth Thompson of Herndon, Va. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren including Janice Wood of Conway, Susan Olson Fuller of Fryeburg, Maine, Chris Fleming of Conway, Bryan Olson of Sitka, Alaska and Colby Fuller of Fryeburg, Maine.
Funeral services were held at the Plantation Community Church, Plantation, Fla, 33317, on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000. A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for April 28, 2000 at the Simpson United Methodist Church, Amityville, N.Y. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be considered to Hospice Care of Broward County, Inc. 309 Southeast 18th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. 33316.
Sandra Ann Fogg
SANBORNVILLE - Sandra Ann (Mason) Fogg, age 55, of Summer Street in Sanbornville, died on Wednesday February, 16, 2000, in her home with her family, after a courageous fight with cancer.
She was born in Wolfeboro on August 9, 1944, the daughter of the late Ernest B. end Dorothy (Cate) Nason. She was a homemaker and lifelong resident of Sanbornville, except for a short time when she lived in Newport, R.I.
She enjoyed doing crafts, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was a past member of the Wakefield Woman's Club and Girl's Club and was a graduate of Nute High School in Milton, class of 1962.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth R. Fogg of Sanbornville, one daughter, Victoria L. (Fogg) (Brown) Garland and her husband, Tim, of Sanbornville, one son: Kenneth R. Fogg, II and his wife Dolly of Union. Two brothers, Gerald A. Nason of Milton Mills and David H. Nason of Sanbornville. Two sisters, Evelyn M. Dalessandri of East Rochester and Diane M. Stewart of Sanbornville. Eight grandchildren, Shaina, T.J. and Rebecca Brown, Matthew, Kendra and Kody Fogg, Nick and Paige Inglese. Also many aunts, uncles, cousins, Nieces and Nephews. She was predeceased by a brother: Ernest R. (Sonny) Nason in 1997.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church on High Street in Sanbornville on today at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the spring at Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville. Mildred E. Cole
BROWNFIELD, Maine - Mildred E. Cole, 59 of Spring Street in Brownfield, died Feb. 7, 2000, at Bridgton Health Care Center.
She was born October 28, 1940, in Bowdoin, a daughter of Earl and Nettie Mitchell Colby.
Being the eldest child, she had the responsibility of caring for her nine brothers and sisters from a very young age. At 8 years of age she went to live with her foster parents, Ken and Georgie Fraiser, until she married James L. Cole on Nov. 9, 1958. She was educated in Fryeburg schools.
She worked most of her adult life baby-sitting grandchildren and neighborhood children. She was a loyal Elvis Presley fan.
She was predeceased by one grandson, Matthew Scott Cole, who died Oct. 10, 1996, and two brothers..
Surviving are her husband of 41 years, James L. Cole Sr., of Brownfield; one daughter Carol Ann Davis, of Lovell, Maine; four sons, James L. Cole Jr., of Fryeburg, Bradford Scott Cole, of Brownfield, Brian Scott Cole, of Fryeburg, and Brandon Earl Cole, of Brownfield. Also surviving are seven brothers and sisters, several half-brothers and sisters, several foster brothers and sisters and 13 grandchildren.
Visiting hours were held Feb. 10, and funeral services are today at Neal & York Funeral Home, 12 High Street, Kezar Falls. A spring burial will take place in Burnt Meadowbrook Cemetery, Brownfield, Maine.
Lillian Witham Sullivan Baldwin Hite
LARGO, Fla. - Lillian Witham Sullivan Baldwin Hite, 90, of Largo, Fla., originally of Bingham, Maine, and North Conway, died of natural causes Jan. 20, 2000, in Largo, Fla.
The former Mrs. Thomas Sullivan worked for many years at the A.D. Davis Insurance Agency in North Conway, under its founder Mr. Davis. She was a past grand matron of the O.E.S. and a charter member of the Triangle Club of Fairway Village, Fla.
She is survived by grandchildren, Thomas Pratt of Lakeland, Fla., Dr. Timothy Pratt of St. Louis, Mo., and Ms. Tamara Pratt of Boylston, Mass.; five great-grandchildren of Lakeland and St. Louis; and many step-children, step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
Cremation was in Florida, and a Florida memorial service was held on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000. A memorial service, including interment, will be held in the spring of this year in North Conway.
Violet M. Roberts
HARRISON, Maine - Violet M. Roberts, 85, died Feb. 8, 2000, at her son's residence in Conway.
She was born in Moncton, New Brunswick Canada, the daughter of the late Murray and Cora (Fraitus) Crossman. She graduated from Bridgton Academy. She married William Roberts in 1932. He predeceased her in August, 1999.
She is survived by six sons and four daughters: William H. Jr. of Gilmanton; Joseph M. of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; J. Timothy of Plainfield, NJ; George M. of Dover; Kenneth R. of Damariscotta, Maine; Peter V. of Conway; Sydney L. Keniston of Bridgton, Maine; Sandra L. Caron of Auburn, Maine; Susan E. Powers of Harrison, Maine; and Sally M. Worbs of Payette, Idaho. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by four sisters: Phyllis, Olga, Connie and Velma.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Kingdom Hall in Norway, Maine. Pastor Lewis Britton will officiate. Arrangements are by the Raymond-Wentworth Funeral Home in Bridgton Maine.
