Caroline "Denny" Worster
Died: Wednesday, August 24, 2005
Age: 78
DOVER - Caroline (Downs) Worster "Denny," age 78, of Meadow Street, Branch River Commons in Sanbornville, died Wednesday, Aug. 24 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 4, 1927 in Wakefield, she was a daughter of the late Winfred E. and Carrie L. (Wentworth) Downs. She had lived in Sanbornville for the past 11 years, having come from Union, where she lived for more than 40 years.
She and her late husband George O. Worster, who died in 1999, had owned and operated the former Worster's Country Store in Union for many years. She was an active member, for over 50 years of Reunion Grange in Union.
A homemaker, she was a loving mother and grandmother, who especially enjoyed time spent with her family.
She leaves three daughters, Linda Wilkinson of East Wakefield, Lorraine York of Alton and Lucille Crawford of Wolfeboro; and her dear friend and companion, Peter Manoogian of Sanbornville. She also leaves 11 grandchildren: Stephanie Morrill, Sonia Todd, Sarah Gregoire, Raymond Dodier, Roland Dodier, Rhonda Carpenter, Daryl Crawford, Dale Crawford, Derek Crawford, Darcy Crawford and Dara Crawford; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Winifred Nason and a brother, Fred Downs, both of Union, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by sisters: Ruth Spinney, Marion Joy and Rachel (Downs) Wentworth, who died only hours earlier on Aug. 23.
There are no calling hours. Family and friends attended a graveside service Aug. 28 at the Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville. Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road in Sanbornville.
Robert N. Heinlein
Died: Wednesday, August 24, 2005
Age: 78
BROOKFIELD - Robert N. Heinlein, 78, died Aug. 24 at his home in Brookfield after a long illness. He was born in Woburn, Mass. and, until moving to New Hampshire in 1991, lived in Stoneham, Mass.
During World War II, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. He attended Northeastern University. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Somerville, Mass. as a plant layout engineer, for Lab Electronics and for Raytheon Company as a facility engineer, where he retired after 30 years.
He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Stoneham, Mass. and then transferred to the Congregational Church of Wakefield. He also was a member of King Cyrus Masonic Lodge in Stoneham.
After moving to New Hampshire, Heinlein became active in town affairs. He served on the Board of Selectmen for seven years, and as a selectman representative on the Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Planning Board. He was instrumental in the design and construction of the new Brookfield town office building.
Family members include his wife, Elizabeth MacPhail Heinlein; two sons, Robert N. Heinlein Jr. of Andover, Mass. and Richard A. Heinlein of N. Charleston, S.C.; four grandchildren; his sister Betty Seibert; three nieces and one nephew.
A Memorial Service was held Monday, Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Wakefield. Memorial donations may be made to VNA - Hospice of Southern Carroll County & Vicinity, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894. Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road in Sanbornville.
James H. Trafton
Died: Thursday, November 24, 2005
LYNNFIELD, Mass. - James H. Trafton of Lynnfield, Mass. died suddenly at his home Nov. 24.
Mr. Trafton of Lynnfield had been a lifelong Lynnfield resident and was a 1991 graduate of Lynnfield High School. Following high school, he had attended Middlesex Community College, Bedford, Mass., and had been employed as a service advisor for Kelly Jeep, Lynnfield and other auto dealerships.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Trafton is survived by his son, Brandon James Trafton. He was the grandson of Barbara Trafton of Sanbornville, and the nephew of Brad and Elaine Trafton of Gonic, Kathy Grigalus of Holliston, Mass., Claudia and Charles Ruddy of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Alana Hommel of Conn. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara (Trafton) De Marco in 2003.
A funeral mass was held Friday, Dec. 2, at St. Maria Goretti Church in Lynnfield. His Godfather and namesake Father James F. Hickey of Rockland, Mass. celebrated the Mass. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery in Lynnfield.
Katharine D. Goldthwaite
Died: Monday, November 21, 2005
Age: 90
ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. - Katherine D. Goldthwait, 90, of Bradenton, Florida, died Nov. 21.
Born in Brookline, Mass. in 1915, Mrs. Goldthwait raised four children in Worthington, Ohio while her husband, a geology professor, worked at Ohio State University.
She moved to Anna Maria Island in 1978 where she was active in Roser Memorial Community Church and the Anna Maria Island Historical Society. She spent many summer months at the Goldthwait family summer home in Wolfeboro.
Mrs. Goldthwait will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family, her commitment to her church, her positive approach to all people and to life, and for her sense of humor. She traveled widely throughout the world and was a skilled watercolor artist.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard P. Goldthwait. She is survived by her sister, Sylvia Snyder of Bradenton, Fla; her daughters Jane Goldthwait of Celo , N.C., Susan Carlson of Englewood, Colo. and Betsy Atkinson of Anna Maria, Fla. She also leaves her son, Thomas Goldthwait of New London, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Judith Ann Smith
Died: Sunday, November 20, 2005
Age: 55
TUFTONBORO - Judith Ann (Bean) Smith, 55, of Old Town Road, died Nov. 20, at her home after a battle with lung cancer.
Born Nov. 6, 1950 daughter of Arlene (Henry) and the late Leon E. "Bud" Bean she had lived in Tuftonboro all of her life.
Judith is a 1968 graduate of Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro. She worked in the kitchen at Kingswood Regional High School for many years and for Pak 2000 in Tuftonboro.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and daughter. She is survived by 2 daughters Ronda Johnson of Chichester, Sarah Huntress of Tuftonboro, her mother Arlene (Henry) Bean of Wolfeboro, a grandchild Ryleigh Johnson, three brothers David Marble, Richard Bean, Leon Bean, five sisters Deborah Bean, Cindy-Lu Bean, Holly Bean, Sue-Anne Taylor, Melanie Smart and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 23, at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro.

Marjorie (Briggs) Kelley
Died: Monday, November 14, 2005
Age: 87
WOLFEBORO - Marjorie (Briggs) Kelley, 87 of Bassett Road, Wolfeboro died Nov. 14 at the SunBridge Nursing Home in Wolfeboro.
Born in Augusta, Maine Jan. 27, 1918, the first child of the late John and Estelle (Barker) Briggs she lived in Cambridge, Mass., for a short time while her father worked in the area. She moved to Berlin when her father began working for Brown Company and later moved to Gorham where she graduated from Gorham High School in 1935. In 1939 she received her RN from Deaconess Hospital/Simmons College Nursing program.
Mrs. Kelley did private duty nursing in the Boston Area Hospitals until her marriage to James W. Kelley, Ph.D in 1941 and then became a Staff Nurse in the Gastro-Intestinal Department of the Lahey Clinic in Boston until the birth of their first child, David, in 1944. In 1945 she moved with her husband to Washington, D.C., moving back to the Boston area in 1946 living in Medford until moving to Wellesley, Mass., in 1948, where she would live until 1979. Her second child, Marsha, was born in 1947.
In 1960 she returned to nursing in a position with Newton-Wellesley Hospital in the Obstetrics Department where she served for over nine years. In the mid-1970s she joined with Mrs. Betty Thompson and volunteered her services in the Reach to Recovery Program of the American Cancer Society covering Norfolk and Middlesex Counties. The program involved working with doctors, new mastectomy patients, training volunteers and holding seminars for husbands and family members of mastectomy patients.
While in Wellesley she was a very active member of the Wellesley Congregational Church (the Village Church) serving on a number of Boards and Committees. Her first love was singing in the Church Choir and was a member of the alto section for nearly 29 years.
When her husband retired from the Faculty and Administration of the School of Management of Boston University they moved to Wolfeboro. Still hanging to her love of the medical field she became a volunteer in the X-ray Department at Huggins Hospital. In addition she worked with the Red Cross Bloodmobile and served as the local Chair and organizer for over 14 years. As a member of the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro she served as Chair of the Fellowship Board and was responsible for the fellowship hours and the receptions following Memorial Services.
Since the mid-1990s following an unsuccessful spinal operation Marge Kelley has been unable to walk without assistance and became a resident of SunBridge in Wolfeboro.
Survivors include her husband James Kelley of Wolfeboro, her son David Kelley of Westminister, Mass., her daughter Marsha Golden of Westboro, Mass., five grandchildren two great-grandchildren and a sister, Patricia Webb of Gorham.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. Dec. 10, at the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro. Burial will be private.

Clifford J. Simoneau
Died: Sunday, November 13, 2005
Age: 46
WOLFEBORO - Clifford J. Simoneau, 46, of Wolfeboro passed away Nov. 13 in Wolfeboro, surrounded by family and friends following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 2, 1959 in Dracut, Mass., the son of Maurice and Lucille (Altemus) Simoneau and had lived in Wolfeboro for most of his adult life.
Clifford started his career by attending the National Association of Scuba Diving Schools in San Diego, Calif. He was founder and owner of North Country Scuba and Sports in Wolfeboro and Laconia. During that time, he taught scuba classes statewide including a long tenure at Plymouth State University in Plymouth.
Clifford was the past president of the Wolfeboro Chamber of Commerce and co-founder of the Granite Man Triathlon. He went on to become Vice President of a world-renowned training institute, Technical Diving International, Inc., where he became a technical diving instructor/trainer teaching mixed gas air and rebreather instruction. Cliff was a member of the Shark Research Institute of Rutgers University, which brought him to tag and retrieve DNA samples from whale sharks from places such as the Galapagos Islands, Cocoas, New Guinea and other exotic regions around the globe. Cliff was also a member of the research dive team and trainer located at Woods Hole Institute, Cape Cod, Mass. Most recently, he became co-owner of Silent Diving Systems, LLC, a distributor of closed circuit rebreathers.
Cliff lived his dreams and life to its fullest every day with a free spirit, a love of life, a loss that will be felt by those he leaves behind.
Cliff leaves his wife of 25 years, Kathleen (Lee) Simoneau of Wolfeboro, and his beloved dog "Bailey." He is also survived by his mother, Lucille (Artemus) Simoneau of Dracut, Mass., and was predeceased by his father Maurice. Cliff is also survived by three sisters, Virginia "Ginna" Pearson of Londonderry; Martha Sewel of Everett, Mass., and Robin McCarthy of Lowell, Mass. He also leaves his niece Alina Loynd and his nephews Ryan Loynd and Josh and Timothy Lee all of Alton. He will be missed by his special friends Mark and Sandy Hutchins of Wolfeboro.
Calling hours will be today, Nov. 17, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Lord Funereal Home, Wolfeboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 11 a.m., at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Route 28, Alton. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Wolfeboro.
A reception will follow at the Pinckney Boat House on the Brewster Academy campus, Wolfeboro.

Harry A. Merchant
Died: Friday, November 11, 2005
Age: 79
ALTON - Harry A. Merchant, age 79 of Spruce Terrace in Alton, died on Friday November 11, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
Born Oct. 17, 1926 and raised in Uxbridge, Mass., he was a son of the late Arthur and Delina (Blaine) Merchant. He lived in Alton for 15 years, having come from Milford, Mass.
Harry served with the United States Army and the United States Navy; he was a Veteran of World War II.
He retired as a security guard from the Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital in Massachusetts.
He was a member of the V.F.W. in Massachusetts and was a member of the Claude R. Batchelder Post #72 of the American Legion in Alton. He was a communicant at St. Joan of Arc Church in Alton.
The widower of the late Frances L. (Kraus) Merchant and Doris "Dottie" Merchant, he is survived by four daughters: Kelly Merchant of Wolfeboro, Delina Cote of Worcester, Mass., Roberta Gooding and Sharyn Falcoln, both of Florida. He also leaves 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, a sister, Patricia Benedetto of Uxbridge, Mass., and a brother, Albert Merchant of Chelmsford, Mass., as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son: Arthur "Buster" Merchant.
