Dorothy M. Clark
Died: Monday, September 19, 2005
Age: 82
ALTON - Dorothy M. Clark, 82, of Heron Point Road at Merrymeeting Mobile Home Park on Route 11 in Alton, died at home, early Monday morning, Sept. 19.
Born June 4, 1923 in Center Tuftonboro, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Doris (Ayers) Morgan. She had lived in Alton for the past 32 years.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed with local department stores, including the former K-Mart in Gilford, King's in Gilford and Woolworth's in Medford, Mass.
Clark loved to do crafts. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Claude R. Batchelder Post #72 in Alton, a life member of the VFW Post#7663 Auxiliary in Union, also a life member of the Laconia Rod & Gun Club Auxiliary.
She leaves her husband of 56 years, Stanley R. Clark of Alton. She also leaves eight children: Alan C. Clark of Ft. Meade, Fla., Nancy A. Rabb of Amboy, N.Y., Frank H. Clark of Houston, Texas, Patricia R. Clark of Milton Mills, John E. Clark of Leominster, Mass., Doreen B. Blossom of Kissimmee, Fla., Patrick D. Clark of Center Barnstead, and Donna Alexander of Gulfport, Miss., many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister, Jeannette Hurd of Newburyport, Mass., and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her son: Russell T. Clark.
As per her request, there are no services planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to VNA/Hospice, PO Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894. Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Alton Funeral Home, 12 School Street in Alton, NH.
Alfred John McDowell
Died: Thursday, September 15, 2005
Age: 93
ALTON - Alfred John McDowell, 93 of Roberts Cove Rd., died Sept. 15, at his home.
Born in Perth Amboy, N.J. June 30, 1912 son of the late Alonzo Bowman and Julia (Diehl) McDowell, he had lived in Alton since 1974.
McDowell graduated from Rutgers University in 1934 where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and graduated from Harvard Law School in 1937. He was a Clerk of the United States Tax Court in Washington, D.C. during World War II. In 1948 he joined the Philadelphia Law Firm of Morgan, Lewis and Bockius where he became a preeminent tax lawyer until his retirement in 1973 and was a long time member of the Union League of Philadelphia. He was also a member of the Bar Association in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New Hampshire. In Philadelphia he was a member of the Union League and in Wolfeboro he was a member of the Kingswood Golf Club and the Melvin Village Community Church.
McDowell best loved his wife Frankie and family as well as sporting events, reading and musicals.
He leaves his wife Frances (Swaffield) McDowell of Alton; a son, Peter B. McDowell of Manchester, Md.; three daughters, Susan Heppenstall of Canterbury, Judith Austin of Crested Butte, Colo., Polly McDowell of Vineyard Haven, Mass.; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Bertha Larson.
A Memorial Service was held Sept. 18, at the Melvin Village Community Church in Melvin Village.
Burial will be at a later date.

Pauline Atwood
Died: Wednesday, September 14, 2005
Age: 81
WATER VILLAGE - Pauline (Frost) Atwood, 81 of Water Village Rd., Water Village in Ossipee died Sept. 14, at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee.
Atwood was born in North Andover, Mass. Oct. 31, 1923, the daughter of the late Charles and Gertrude (Miller) Frost. She grew up in North Andover and lived in Haverhill, Mass. prior to moving to Ossipee 30 years ago. She graduated from Johnson High School in North Andover and the Melrose Nursing School.
Atwood worked as a Registered Nurse for many years at the Danvers State Hospital. After moving to Ossipee with her husband Jack, she became very active in the community. For 16 years she was the secretary of the Ossipee Historical Society. As an active member of the Ossipee Concerned Citizens, for twenty years she helped to deliver Meals on Wheels, and was a friend of all the people to whom the meals were delivered. Pauline especially loved and was loved by the children in the OCC day care, who called her "Granny Atwood" and celebrated her birthday with a party on Halloween. She remembered all the children and adults at OCC and in Water Village with cards on all occasions in their lives. Pauline was a faithful member of the Water Village Community Church, where she served as secretary, and read the scripture readings until her sight failed. In all the groups to which she belonged she was an active member and assisted at all fund-raising events.
Predeceased by her husband John E. Atwood and a brother Walter Frost, she leaves a son Paul Noel and his fiancée Mechelle Michaud of North Conway; Donna Noel, mother of her grandchildren Nichole and Paul Noel Jr.; a great grandson Heith Cowper (her pride and joy), a great aunt Gertrude Hays of Wolfeboro; a nephew Wayne Frost and his family of Water Village; and several cousins and many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. at the Water Village Community Church on Route 171 in Ossipee. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Water Village Community Church.

Kenneth R. (Mr. B) Burker
Died: Tuesday, September 13, 2005
Age: 77
WAKEFIELD - Kenneth Burker, 77, of Wakefield passed away on Sept. 13, after a brief illness.
Born in Glen Ridge, N.J., he was the son of William and Mary Burker. He grew up and attended schools in New Jersey, and later enlisted in the Army, spending much of his enlisted years in Japan.
He was an employee of Amoco Oil Co., retiring after 36 years, and lived in various locations in the US.
He was a civic and community leader in several states, and touched the lives of many, many children over the years through his work in scouting, marksmanship training, gun building, coaching. He was active in many church activities and volunteered many years to working with children at the Paul School in Wakefield.
He was voted Wakefield's Citizen of the Year in 1991 for his devotion and commitment to various local projects.
He was a darling beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather to Michael, Melissa and Kenny.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Joan, two children, three grandchildren, a brother and sister, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Patricia M. Quint
Died: Monday, September 12, 2005
Age: 77
WOLFEBORO - Patricia M. (Moynahan) Quint, 77, formerly of Ipswich Mass., died Monday Sept. 12 at Huggins Hospital of Wolfeboro, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Norman Quint.
Born in Ipswich Feb. 3, 1928, daughter of the late Adrian and Rachel (Duguay) Moynahan, she was a 1947 graduate of Ipswich High School. She raised her family in Ipswich, where they enjoyed the beach, fishing and sailing. She also loved to travel and downhill ski and was an avid reader. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Ipswich and a member of the Ipswich Bay Yacht Club. She moved to Wolfeboro in 1967, and was a communicant at St. Cecilia's Church (now St. Katharine Drexel).
She is survived by her sons, Peter Herrick of Ipswich and Wolfeboro and Chad Herrick and his wife Jean of Amesbury, Mass; her daughters, Ann Pynchon of Ipswich, and Lisa Herrick of Jensen Beach, Fla. and Wolfeboro; her grandchildren, John and Henry Pynchon of Ipswich and Allison and Bradley Herrick of Amesbury; her sister, Virginia Marcorelle of Ipswich and many nieces and nephews. She was especially fond of her cats Thelma and Louise.
Her funeral is today, Sept. 15 at 8 a.m. at the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, Mass. followed by a Funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Church, Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Family and friends respectfully welcomed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Norman L. Anne E. Walsh
Died: Sunday, September 11, 2005
Age: 94
WOLFEBORO - Anne E. Walsh, age 94, formerly of Alton, died Sunday morning, Sept. 11, at Huggins Hospital Extended Care, where she resided.
Born January 30, 1911 in Stoneham, Mass., the daughter of the late John and Nellie (Gorman) Walsh, she was raised in Wakefield, Mass.
Walsh earned her B.A. in education at St. Mary's of the Woods College in Terra Haute, Ind. in 1933, followed by her master's in Latin at Indiana University. She then entered the religious life in 1929 for twenty years. She returned to St. Mary's of the Woods College to earn her LPN, and was in nursing until the age of 75, when she retired to the Alton/Wolfeboro area.
She is survived by a cousin, Ralph Malmgren of Tuftonboro.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated today, Sept. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish on Route 28N in Alton, with Fr. George Ham, pastor as celebrant. There are no calling hours; friends are welcome to the mass. Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Alton Funeral Home, 12 School Street in Alton.
Kathleen D. Giffin
Died: Saturday, September 10, 2005
Age: 62
SANBORNVILLE - Kathleen D. Giffin, age 62, of Wakefield Road in Sanbornville, died Saturday morning, Sept. 10, at Hospice House in Concord.
Born Sept. 30, 1942 and raised in Laconia, she was the daughter of the late Claude & Merle (Smith) Dirth. She was a graduate of the Elliot Hospital School of Nursing in Manchester.
She lived in Sanbornville for the past 36 years. She was employed as secretary and billing clerk for the Sanbornville Water Department for the past 15 years.
Giffin was devoted to the community of Wakefield, volunteering in numerous capacities. She helped establish the Wakefield Area Ambulance Corps and worked with it for over 15 years. She was also a member of Lovell-Union Grange #178.
Some of her greatest joys included traveling with her husband through the Carriage Travel Club, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving family members include her husband of 40 years, Dean L. Giffin of Sanbornville; her children, Bobbie Mello of Los Angeles, Calif., Wendy Barber and her husband, Jaime, of Charlotte, N.C., Karen Reid and her husband, Steve, of Wetumpka, Ala. and Vicki Trueworthy and her husband, Brian, of Rochester; nine grandchildren; a brother, Kevin Dirth of Rock Hill, N.Y.; as well as extended family in the Concord area.
Calling hours were held Monday at Peaslee Funeral Home 2079 Wakefield Road in Sanbornville. A Funeral Service was scheduled for Tuesday Sept. 13, at the First Congregational Church 2718 Wakefield Road in Wakefield with Rev. Peter Foss, interim pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to: CRVNA Hospice House, 240 Pleasant Street, Concord, NH 03301.
Kass L. Hart
Died: Friday, January 28, 2005
Age: 95
WOLFEBORO – Kass L. (Lowry) Hart, 95, of Wolfeboro died peacefully Friday, Jan. 28. Previously a longtime resident of Blandford, Mass., Hart is the daughter of William Lowry and Josephine (Adams) Harvey.
Her husband Elbert Hart died in September 1984. She leaves a son, William Loeffler of Charlton, Mass. She also leaves many close friends, including Hazel Vaillancourt, previously of Blandford, Mass.; Linda Forish Merkel of New Braintree, Mass.; Marie Clifford of Westfield, Mass.; and Ruth Glidden of Wolfeboro.
Hart was a graduate of the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts and the Rhode Island School of Design. She was associated with the Paramount Motion Picture Company as an air brush artist where she helped to create such popular cartoons as "Popeye," "Superman," "Gulliver's Travels" and many more. She joined Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1955, and worked there as a space planner until her retirement in 1974.
Hart was an avid walker and for many years enjoyed membership in the Appalachian Mountain Club. She also enjoyed her walking group in Wolfeboro and derived much pleasure from its members.
There will be a tree planted in her memory by the walking group. Scheduling for this ceremony will be determined at a later date, sometime in May. Her son and her close friends will celebrate her life by scattering her remains atop her favorite trail at the Appalachian Mountain Club.
