Delia "Babe" Vickers
Died: Wednesday, July 13, 2005
Age: 90

FARMINGTON - Delia "Babe" Vickers, age 90, a resident at Our Place Inn Time and longtime resident of Farmington, died Wednesday morning, July 13, at SunBridge Care of Rochester.

Born Sept. 1, 1914 in Caswell Plantation (Limestone), Maine, she was a daughter of the late Pierre and Annie (Dupont) Beaulieu. Raised in North Cambridge, Mass., she had lived in Farmington, since 1933.

A homemaker and mother, she was the widow of the late Charles Stuart Vickers, Jr., who died in 1961. She also had been a shoeworker in local shoe factories.

Babe enjoyed cooking, crocheting, arts and crafts.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth and husband Donald Pratt of Englewood, Fla. and Wells, Maine; one son: Kerry L. Vickers of Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Adelaide French of Laconia; one daughter-in-law, Sharon Vickers of Springfield, Mo. nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews and a special friend, Kathy Seaver of Farmington. A son, Charles S. Vickers III, died in November 2004.

Calling hours will be held on Friday evening, July 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street in Farmington. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday morning, July 23, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice 642 Central Avenue, Dover, 03820 or the Homemakers of Strafford County 215 Rochester Hill Road Rochester, NH 03867.

Anne L. (Rose) Widman
Died: Tuesday, July 12, 2005
Age: 79

WOLFEBORO - Anne L. (Rose) Widman, 79, of Old Mill Rd., died suddenly at her home in her sleep, July 12.

Born in Ashland, Ky. May 27, 1926, daughter of the late Everett Lee and Mabel (Picklesimer) Rose, she had lived in Wolfeboro since 1971. Prior to her move to Wolfeboro, she lived in Worthington, Ohio.

Widman received her Bachelor of Arts from Kentucky Wesleyan College and had been preparing to be a missionary to Pakistan at Hartford Seminary Foundation, when she met her husband of 53 years, Harry, and decided to get married instead of joining the missionary. She worked as the director of administration and Elderhostel Coordinator at Geneva Point Center in Moultonborough and director of Christian education for several churches in Ohio.

A very active member of the Wolfeboro First Congregational Church UCC, she had served as a moderator of the church and chaired various boards and committees. She volunteered with the Wolfeboro Caregivers, Meals on Wheels, Hospice Advisory Committee, was the volunteer dining room supervisor at Brewster Academy and did fund-raising for many organizations.

She was the first woman elected to First Vice President of the International Association of Conference Center Administrators, served on the board of N.H. Camp Directors Association and New England Chapter of the American Camping Association. She was also a founding member of the Worthington Ohio United Church.

For 30 years, Widman and her husband led study trips abroad. She was also an active member of Morgensolen Lodge Sons, of Norway.

She leaves her husband, Reverend Harry Widman of Wolfeboro; a son and daughter-in-law Gregory and Cheryl Widman of Moultonborough; three daughters and their husbands Jean and Charles Vargas of Pittsford, Vt., Sara and Kevin Worthington of Wilmington, Mass., Kristianne and Glenn Johnson of Marlboro, Mass.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday July 17 at the Wolfeboro First Congregational Church UCC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational Church, Wolfeboro (for support of women's scholarships in Ghana), Brewster Academy Widman Family Scholarship or the Geneva Point Center Widman Family Endowment for buildings and grounds.

The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro is in charge of the arrangements.

Keenan Zachri Craigue
Died: Tuesday, July 12, 2005

PITTSFIELD, Maine - Keenan Zachri Craigue, stillborn son of Brian Craigue and Tracy Smith, died July 12 at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville, Maine.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Caden; paternal grandmother Michelle Porter of Wolfeboro; paternal grandfather Scott Craigue of Tuftonboro; stepgrandfather Benjamine Porter of Newport, Maine; maternal great-grandparents Anita and Bill Segnitz of Wolfeboro; Theodore and Sherma Wood of Destin, Fla.; paternal great-grandparents Jeane Craigue of Tuftonboro and Harley Craigue. Services were in Pittsfield, Maine.

George C. Scribner
Died: Sunday, July 10, 2005
Age: 81

KENNEBUNK, Maine - George C. Scribner, 81, of Kennebunk, Maine and Green Valley, Ariz., died July 10 at University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Scribner was born in Dover on November 19, 1923, the first son of Samuel Harold Scribner and Dorothy Harriet Sweat. He attended Dover High School and the University of New Hampshire in Durham, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in marketing.

He later earned a Bachelor of Science in management engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, N.Y. He also studied meteorology at New York University and taught that subject at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill.

During World War II, he served as a meteorologist and flight engineer in the China-Burma-India theatre, "flying the hump" over the Himalayas to support troops fighting in central China. These experiences fed his love of travel and his study of world religions. After 22 years in the U.S. Army Air Corps and U.S. Air Force Reserve, he retired with the rank of Major in 1966.

Both engineer and entrepreneur, he founded George C. Scribner Associates in Hamilton, Mass., which contributed to the design and construction of many large-scale industrial projects. Scribner was a member of the American Meteorological Society and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). He was a member of Theta Chi, the Arundel (Maine) Beach Club, the Arundel Yacht Club, and he was a founding Commodore of the Green Valley (Arizona) Yacht Club.

During the past three decades, Scribner traveled the world. In 1978, he returned to South Asia and Bhutan as a representative of the Smithsonian Institution.

He leaves his wife of 56 years, Annette Hamilton Chase; four children, Scott R. Scribner of Long Beach, Calif., Sandra J. Mack of San Diego, Calif., Stephen H. Scribner of Dover, and Schuyler D. Scribner of Nottingham; and four grandchildren: John Mack, Rebekah Mack, Johanna Mack, and Shannon Scribner.

There are no visiting hours. A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 19, at the South Congregational Church, 14 Temple Street, Kennebunkport. Burial was in Hope Cemetery, Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to: Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094.

Arrangements were under the direction of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk.

Adelard J. "Del" Gregoire
Died: Sunday, September 25, 2005
Age: 81

MILTON - Adelard J. "Del" Gregoire, age 81, of Vachon Drive in Milton, died Sunday evening, Sept. 25, at home, surrounded by his family.

Born Oct. 10, 1923 and raised in Somersworth, a son of the late Camille and Melina (Lessard) Gregoire, he attended schools in Somersworth, including St. Martin's. He was a graduate of Coine Electrical School of Chicago and also Radar School in Tampa, Fla.

He entered the Army in 1942 and served during World War II in the European Theater. In 1946 he married Irene (Duchano) of Sanbornville at St. Anthony's Church in Sanbornville. They lived in Milton for over 50 years, where Gregoire was a member of the American Legion Post #61.

He was affiliated with Graniteers Drum and Bugle Corps of Rochester, traveling to President Kennedy's Inaugural Parade, the New York World Fair and Montreal Expo; they also traveled around New England to parades and field competitions.

Gregoire worked for Prime Tanning Co., Duchano's Construction and before retiring, he was a bartender for Russo's Lounge and then Cardinal's Restaurant & Lounge.

Del and his wife Irene enjoyed traveling to many interesting places in this country and in Canada. He also enjoyed woodworking and cross-country skiing.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years: Irene (Duchano) Gregoire of Milton and their five children: Ronald Gregoire and partner Bryan of San Francisco, Calif., Gerard and wife Gloria Gregoire of Virginia Beach, Va., Jeanne and husband Alan Gallant of Derry, Susanne Gregoire of Milton and Clare Gregoire of Farmington. He also leaves six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, two sisters: Albertine Lajoie of Berwick, Maine and Blanche Gervais of Rochester, three brothers: Noel and wife Irene Gregoire of Somersworth, Lionel and wife Arlene Gregoire of Barrington, and Leo Paul and wife Connie Gregoire of Somersworth, also many nieces and nephews, and two "granddogs," Inga and Lucina. He was pre-deceased by a grandson, Tony Gregoire, and two brothers, Philippe and Raymond Gregoire.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, Thursday Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church on Meadow Street (Route 109) in Sanbornville, with Fr. Edmund A. Babicz, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery (St. Anthony's) on Cemetery Road in Sanbornville. There are no calling hours, family and friends are welcome to the mass. If desired, memorial donations may be made in his memory to: Seacoast Hospice 642 Central Avenue Dover, NH 03820.

Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road, Sanbornville, NH.

Alice M. Labrecque
Died: Sunday, September 25, 2005
Age: 72

BARNSTEAD - Alice May LaBrecque, 72, died Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester after a short illness.

She was born in Center Barnstead, the daughter of Fred T. and Harriet (Lawrence) Pitman, and she lived there all her life.

She graduated from Austin-Cate Academy, where she excelled in basketball and softball.

She married Roland V. LaBrecque in 1952. She was a devoted homemaker who centered her life on her family.

In her leisure time, she enjoyed her flower gardens, playing cards, doing crossword puzzles, and vacationing in North Carolina with her brother. She was also an avid Boston Celtics fan.

She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Barnstead Post No. 42. Labrecque was also trustee of the trust funds in Barnstead for more than 15 years.

She leaves two daughters, Laurena M. Bates and her husband, James, Saco, Maine, and Karen M. Montgomery and her husband Rickie, of Barnstead; five sons, Arthur G. LaBrecque and his wife Diane of Boscawen; Roland V. LaBrecque Jr. (Wendy); David A. LaBrecque; Joseph M. LaBrecque (Cindy); and Kevin R. LaBrecque, all of Barnstead, 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Daniel, Allison, Renee, Meredith, Joshua, Hailey, Mark, Rosina and Lily; three great-grandchildren, Natasha, Peter, and James; two sisters, Doris Gordon and her husband Norman of Farmington, and Bea Knight and her husband Alan of Strafford; two brothers, Fred Pitman and his wife, Jean, of Farmington, and Arthur Pitman of North Carolina; an aunt, Elizabeth Potter and her husband John of Kinderhook, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was the widow of Roland LaBrecque, who died in 2000. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Rickie Montgomery; a sister, Ruth Tebbetts; and a half-brother, Fred Freid.

Calling hours were held Oct. 8 at Perkins and Pollard Memorial Home, 60 Main St., Pittsfield. A gathering followed at the American Legion Post in Barnstead Parade.

Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the U MASS Memorial Foundation, Dr. Raza MDS Research, 364 Plantation St., Worcester, Mass, 01605.

Charles A. Preston
Died: Tuesday, September 20, 2005
Age: 84

WOLFEBORO - Charles A. Preston, 84, of Waumbec Road died Tuesday, Sept. 20, at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1921 in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of the late Paul and Anna Petrushonis. He lived in Bridgeport for most of his life and attended Clark University in Worcester, Mass.

Preston was employed as a Research Engineer for Remington Arms Company in Bridgeport for 40 years. Preston and his wife Virginia moved to Wolfeboro in 1987.

While growing up in Bridgeport, Preston was an athlete and played on a semi-professional basketball team in Connecticut. He also enjoyed golfing. He was a member of the Lithuanian Club and a very active member of the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro.

He leaves his wife of 54 years, Virginia (Sabas) Preston, Wolfeboro, his son Thomas Preston, Madison, and his daughter Charlene Preston, Stokesdale, N.C., and his loving granddaughters Chelsea and Lindzey Preston, as well as nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Memorial Services will be Sunday, Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, South Main Street, Wolfeboro. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumball, Conn. at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to the Hospice/VNA of Southern Carroll County, PO Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894, or the Meals on Wheels of Wolfeboro x/o Huggins Hospital, PO Box 912, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.
