Gladys (Watson) Rich
OSSIPEE - Gladys (Watson) Rich, 80, of Route 16, Ossipee, died Thursday morning May 4, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
Born in Orono, Maine the daughter of the late C. W. and Myra (Morrisette) Watson.
She graduated from West High School in Manchester and attended Plymouth Teachers College. Serving in the United States Navy she was stationed in San Francisco.
After the service she and her husband settled in Marshfield, Mass. where she worked for the town of Marshfield for over 20 years as a clerk for the town clerk and treasurers office, secretary to the head of D.P.W. was also elected to and chaired the planning board before retiring living there for 30 years before moving to Ossipee in 1976.
She is survived by her husband Albion "Bud" Rich of Ossipee, a sister Lois Parmenter of Merrimack and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no services. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Marion (Williams) Sargent
FREEDOM - Marion (Williams) Sargent, 66, of Swett's Hill Road, died May 3, 2000, at Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro.
A native and lifelong resident of Freedom, she was born Sept. 8, 1933, the daughter of Raymond and Hazel (Brown) Williams.
Her family includes her husband of 52 years, Merton H. Sargent, Freedom; a son, Merton H. Sargent Jr., Freedom; two sisters, Violet Libby, Porter, Maine, and Verna Libby, Center Ossipee; two brothers, Raymond Williams Jr., Freedom, and Harold Libby, Waterboro, Maine; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday, May 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee. The funeral service will be Friday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Freedom, with the Rev. Robert Cedar officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Freedom.
Ethel (Bean) Fernald
OSSIPEE - Ethel (Bean) Fernald, 95, formerly of Center Ossipee, died May 1, 2000, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
She was born on May 31, 1904, in Chester, Vt. and had lived in Ossipee for most of her life. She was a member of the Moultonville Methodist Church in Center Ossipee and a past member of the Moultonville Methodist Church Ladies Club.
She was the widow of the late Leon F. Fernald of Ossipee.
Mrs. Fernald had worked as a salesperson for the Avon and Fuller Brush Company for six years.
She is survived by several cousins and a special friend and her guardian for many years, Sandra J. Montgomery.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Moultonville Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Chickville Cemetery in Center Ossipee.

Charles E. "Ed" Houghton Jr.
PORTSMOUTH - Charles E. "Ed" Houghton Jr., 87, of Wolfeboro, died April 28, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth after a sudden illness.
Born in Hyde Park, Mass., the son of Charles and Helen (Aborn) Houghton, he grew up in Norwood, Mass., and had lived in Shreveport, La., for four years and in Westwood, Mass., for seven years. Mr. Houghton lived in Intervale for 47 years before moving to Wolfeboro in 1998.
He graduated from Norwood (Mass.) High School, Class of 1930, attended Pratt Institute in New York City and graduated from Colby College, Waterville, Maine, in 1935. He also attended Harvard Law School.
Mr. Houghton had been plant manager in the roofing industry for 13 years and he owned and operated the Holiday Inn in Intervale for 26 years before returning in 1976.
He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega at Colby College, a charter member of the Optimist Club in Shreveport, La., a member and past president of the North Conway Rotary Club and former treasurer of the Lower Bartlett Water Precinct.
Mr. Houghton was an avid skier, a charter member of the Westwood (Mass.) Ski Club and a member and instructor at the Eastern Slope Ski Club Junior Ski Program.
The family includes his wife of 65 years, Winnifred (White) Houghton of Wolfeboro; a daughter, Patricia A. "Patsy" Marr of South Natick, Mass.; a son, Charles E. "Ted" Houghton III of Port Republic, Md.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Center Ossipee with the Rev. Leon Cone officiating. Private burial will be in the Intervale Cemetery in Bartlett. There will be no visiting hours.

Elaine E. Shannon
CONWAY - Elaine E. Shannon, 47, of Conway, died Dec. 5, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway, after a brief illness.
Born in North Conway, the daughter of Frank and Geneva (Brown) Thompson, she had been a lifelong resident of the Mount Washington Valley.
The family includes two brothers, Rockford Thompson of South Conway and Gerald Thompson of Fryeburg, Maine; a sister, Laura L. Velez of Belmont; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held today, Wednesday, at noon in the Center Conway Cemetery with the Rev. Len Dunphy, pastor of the Central Baptist Church in Belmont, officiating. There will be no visiting hours.

Sarah (O'Brien) Nelson
CONWAY - Sarah (O'Brien) Nelson, of Conway, formerly of West Roxbury, Mass., died Dec. 1, 1999, at the Merriman House in North Conway.
She was the beloved wife of the late Edward L. Nelson. Children are Paul E. Nelson, of North Carolina, and Kate Schreiber and David Nelson, both of Conway. Grandchildren include Paul, Daniel, Christopher, John Jr., Michael and Eric.
She was the sister of the late Frank, Katherine, Walter, Kohn and Edward O'Brien.
She worked for Commercial Union Insurance Co., for 12 years.
Funeral services are at the P.E. Murray Funeral Home, 2000 Centre Street, West Roxbury on Friday Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. Funeral mass is in St. Theresa Church at 11 a.m. Visiting hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The will be an interment at the St. Joseph Cemetery.
Phyllis A. Henry
Phyllis A. Henry, 84, of Bartlett, died on April 20, 1999 at her home, following a long illness. She was born in Union, and was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Tuttle Colbert.
Mrs. Henry lived in North Conway for over 50 years before moving to Bartlett in 1972. She was a cook at Nereledge Inn and The Farm on West Side Road, and worked at the Carriage Inn. She was also a charter member of the North Conway American Legion Post 95 Ladies Auxiliary.
Her family includes two sons, Frederick A. Henry of Jackson and Roderick Henry of Redstone; three grandsons, Jay Henry of Jackson and Chip Henry and Neil Henry, both of Redstone; a sister, Betty C. Cardinal of North Conway; a brother, James Colbert of Reading, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur E. Henry, in 1985.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bartlett Village Cemetery in Bartlett. There will be no visiting hours. Donations may be sent to the Bartlett-Jackson Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 422, Glen, NH 03838. Arrangements are by the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
Philip L. Perry
Philip L. Perry, 83, of Conway, died on April 20, 1999 at the Merriman House in North Conway, following a long illness. He was born in Alton, and was the son of Phelon and Maude Jewett Perry.
Mr. Perry grew up in Haverhill and Piermont, and had lived in Conway since 1945. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Okinawa. He worked for Gordon Burke & Sons in North Conway, C. Profenno and Company of Portland, Maine, and was a retired carpenter. Mr. Perry was also a 51-year member of the Ralph W. Shirley Post 46 of the American Legion, and a member of the Carroll County Fish, Game and Shooting Club, and the Haverhill Historical Society.
His family includes a son, Alvin Perry of Conway; three daughters, Lorraine Hackett, Judith Maxfield, and Karen Perry, all of Conway; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn Merrill Perry, in 1993; and a son, Kenneth Perry, in 1990.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway, with the Rev. Sean Dunker-Bendigo officiating. Burial will be in the Ladd Street Cemetery, in Haverhill, New Hampshire, at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 7-9 p.m. also at the funeral home. William P. Lemerise
William P. Lemerise, 74, of Gorham, died Thursday, April 15, 1999 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. He was born in Berlin on August 17, 1924, the son of William E. and Marnie King Lemerise, and had lived in Berlin until 1981 when he moved to Fryeburg, Maine. He resided in Fryeburg until June, 1998 when he moved to Gorham.
Mr. Lemerise was a graduate of Berlin High School, class of 1941, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; a member of White Mountain VFW Post 2520 in Berlin, and was an avid gardener.
Prior to his retirement in 1993 he was employed as a salesman for North Country Wholesale in North Conway.
His family includes his wife, Claire Boucher Lemerise of Gorham; a son, William T. Lemerise of Gorham; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Lemerise of Bowling Green, Kentucky; three sisters, Edna Durdan, Louise Callahan and Jeanne Jackson, all of South Portland, Maine; a foster daughter, Vandai Diem Vo and her children, Minh Vo and Tamdan Vo, all of Rockville, Md.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Saturday morning, April 24, at 11 a.m. at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade Street, Gorham. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery in Gorham.

Rev. C. Weston Jones
Rev. C. Weston Jones, 82, of Bedford, Mass. died April 17, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford.
He was born in Durham, Maine, the son of Charles and Laura Little Jones. He graduated from Lisbon Falls High School and from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Mass. He lived in Fryeburg for 39 years and was pastor in Fryeburg Harbor, Hiram, Denmark, Brownfield, Conway and Center Conway. He moved from Fryeburg to Hamilton, Mass., and had lived in New Bedford for the past 11 years.
His family includes his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Hall Jones, of New Bedford; six sons, F. Woodman Jones, of Portland, Maine, Wendall H. Jones, of Bogota, Colombia, Winston C. Jones and J. Wesley Jones, both of Boston, C. Weldon Jones, of Arden Hill, Minn., and Webster N. Jones, of Fryeburg; two daughters, Barbara Crowley, of Quincy, Mass., and Brenda Shepherd, of New Bedford, Mass.; four brothers, Harold Jones, of Raymond, Maine, Laurel Jones, of Venice, Fla., Irving Jones, of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Floyd Jones, of Troy, Mich.; one sister, Winnifred Moore, of Lewiston; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Bradley Memorial Methodist Church in Fryeburg Harbor. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, North Fryeburg.
