Raymond H Kreutzer
Died: Wednesday, December 14, 2005
Age: 92

WOLFEBORO - Raymond H. Kreutzer, 95, died Dec. 14 at his Sugar Hill home after a courageous battle with cancer. He leaves his beloved wife of 72 years, Mary Alice (Dolly), along with three daughters, Mary Harrison of Arlington, Mass., Mercedes Sparck of Gilford, and Rae Lynn Warren and her husband David of Melvin Village, as well as four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ray was born on the kitchen table in Park Ridge, Ill., and cooking soon became his first great passion. His large circle of family and friends warmly recall the rich abundant dinners that he and Dolly so generously and graciously served at their Kenilworth, Ill and Governor's Island homes. He nurtured his family on these memorable occasions with wit, wisdom and boundless optimism. Through him, they learned to love and loved to learn.

His second great passion was woodworking. He owned and operated Keith Lumber Co. in Chicago and had a deep abiding reverence for rare, beautifully figured hard woods. Grandpa's workshop" was his sanctuary. There, he crafted his exquisite furniture with richly carved details and hand cut dovetails. These pieces embody his old fashioned values of dedication, commitment and high expectations and will endure as family heirlooms. Watching him his family learned you can do anything if you try.

Gardening was his third, and perhaps greatest passion. The beauty he brought to the world through his flowers filed him with joy. We learned through his gardening that with hard work and duct tape, we can make the world a better place, his family said. His final harvest is perhaps best expressed by his nephew, who said that we are all living our lives better because we knew him. His spirit will live on in all of our gardens.

A celebration of Ray's life will be held Saturday, Jan. 21 at 11:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions will be gratefully accepted by the Minister's Discretionary Fund, First Congregational Church, PO Box 913, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.
