Robert V. Gould
Died: Sunday, February 13, 2005
Age: 86
MIRROR LAKE – Robert V. Gould, 86, of Mirror Lake died Sunday, Feb. 13, at Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro.
He was born March 3, 1918 in Chicago, Ill. Gould attended Scarsdale High School, Scarsdale, N.Y., then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he earned a BSEE in 1940, and an MSEE in 1941. While at MIT, he was one of the five selected to participate in an industrial cooperative program at Bell Telephone Laboratories. He became an associate of Sigma Xi, the national honorary research fraternity.
He married his high school sweetheart, Marion Lincoln, in 1942.
From MIT he joined the Sperry Gyroscope Company, now UNISYS, as a research engineer. There, he supervised the development of military radar systems, submarine navigation aids, and aircraft electronic countermeasures. During WWII he served as a radar consultant to the National Defense Research Council. His final task before retirement was development of a vessel traffic management system for the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. There, he and his wife Marion enjoyed three wonderful years in residence. He retired to Mirror Lake in 1980.
He held membership in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Institute of Navigation, the International Loran Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the American Bonanza Society, the World Beechcraft Society, the Long Island Early Fliers, and the 70 Ski Club. He held an amateur radio license and also served on the MIT Educational Council for 25 years.
His main hobby was flying and he held a commercial pilot's license, with instrument, glider and seaplane ratings. He had owned his own airplane for many years. The family used it for pleasure trips to Alaska, the West Coast, Colorado and Canada for skiing, and the Bahamas for sunning. The family also spent many summers at their camp on Lake Winnipesaukee.
In addition to his wife, Marion, he leaves his son Robert L. Gould and his wife Linda Matson of Florence, Mass.

Ruby A. Brannan
Died: Saturday, February 12, 2005
Age: 90
MIDDLETON - Ruby A. Brannan, 90, of 222 Route 153 in Middleton, died Saturday, Feb. 12, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Born September 26, 1914 in Middleton, the daughter of the late Leon and Addie (Kimball) Tufts, she lived in Middleton all of her life.
A retired shoeworker, she had been employed at several local shoe factories. She was a member of the Middleton Gospel Chapel and the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Aux. No. 7663.
She was a loving and devoted, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She loved animals, gardening and watching wrestling.
She leaves her children: Francis J. Brannan and his wife Rose of Milton; George P. Brannan, Sr. and his wife Judith of Middleton; Gerard E. Brannan and his wife Elizabeth of New Durham; Ina M. Pipkin and her husband Jeff of Granite Falls, Wash.; her grandchildren and their families: Thomas, Richard and Edward Brannan, George Jr. and Jason Brannan, Betty Chisholm, Donna Bolton, Bonnie Myers, Robert and Brent Worster; 18 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Florence Brannan; two brothers: Woodrow and Stephen Tufts and four sisters: Pauline LeClair, Irene Shephard, June Brown, Priscilla Kimball, all of Middleton, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Norbert; her son, Thomas Vincent Brannan; a granddaughter, Meaka Worster, and seven siblings.
There are no services planned; burial will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Middleton Gospel Chapel, King's Highway, Middleton, NH 03887. Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Funeral Home, 24 Central Street, Farmington, NH.
Norman R. MacInnis
Died: Friday, February 11, 2005
Age: 91
GILFORD - Norman R. MacInnis, 91, of Gilford, died on Friday, Feb. 11, at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, after a brief illness.
Born Feb. 12, 1913 in Prince Edward Island, Canada, he was a son of the late Malcolm and Mariah (MacDonald) MacInnis. He had lived in Gilford since 1993. He had lived in Melrose and Lexington, Mass., Naples, Fla., and had been a longtime summer resident of Alton Bay.
Prior to retirement, MacInnis was the co-owner of D.M. Semiconductor Company, along with his late son Donald A. MacInnis.
He was a Mason, a member of the Wyoming Lodge in Melrose, Mass. An avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed gardening, golfing and spending time with his family.
The widower of Myrtle E. (Crocker) MacInnis, who died on October 6, 2002, he leaves two sons: David N. MacInnis of Madison, Conn. and Norman R. MacInnis, Jr. of Middleton, Mass. He also leaves eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Two sons, Donald A. and Robert W. MacInnis, predeceased him.
In keeping with his wishes, a graveside service will be held in the spring at the New Riverside Cemetery in Alton. Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Alton Funeral Home, 12 School Street, Alton.
Abbot L. Gertsen
Died: Friday, February 11, 2005
Age: 86
EFFINGHAM - Abbot L. Gertsen, 86, died suddenly Feb. 11 due to a fatal accident at his home. He was born in Boston, the son of John Douglas Gertsen, Captain, U.S. Navy, Ret. and Gerda Andrea (Nyland) Gertsen.
He leaves his loving family, including his wife, Arleen (Griffin) Gertsen; his daughter, Elaine Marlow, Capt. U.S. Army, Ret. and her husband, Michael Marlow, Palo Alto, Calif.; his son, Gary M. Gertsen, a Marine Engineer, and his wife, Theresa, Ridgefield, Wash.; and his grandchildren: Heather Marlow, Atlanta, Ga., Sean Marlow, Portland, Ore., and his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brothers: John Douglas Gertsen, CMDR., U.S. Navy, Ret. and George Leonard Gertsen, Marine Engineer; and his sister, Alice M. Holmes, Capt. U.S. Army, Ret.
Gertsen attended Boston University and graduated the NE Aircraft Academy prior to enlisting to serve in the U.S. Navy at the onset of WWII. Thereafter, he was Permanent Master for 25 years on three vessels owned by American Shipping Companies and operated by the U.S. Merchant Maritime Corps. For many years, he attended advanced studies at the Maritime Institute of Technology, Linthicum, Md.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. at the Lords Hill Church, Lords Hill, Effingham. Burial will be held in Massachusetts at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Abbott may be made to the Effingham Fire Department Rescue Squad or to a philanthropic cause of choice which is dedicated to the well-being and education of children.

John Rines
Died: Friday, February 11, 2005
NOTTINGHAM - John Rines died Friday, Feb. 11 after a lengthy illness, with family and friends at his side. He was a graduate of Brewster Academy, Wolfeboro, and the University of New Hampshire. He joined the Marine Corps. and served during the Vietnam War. Rines was the first trained EMT in New Hampshire and taught classes on the subject for many years. He was a captain in the Durham Fire Department, a certified fire instructor and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. His passion was listening to bluegrass music and playing the fiddle with various groups in New Hampshire and Maine.
He leaves his son, Eben Rines, and granddaughter, Allura Kate Rines, of McKinney, Texas; a son, Orin Rines of Moultonborough; his sister, Sandra Rines Hammond and brother-in-law, Duane Hammond, of Alton, and hundreds of devoted friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to The Durham Professional Firefighter's Association Widow and Orphan's Fund, P.O. Box 869, Durham, NH 03824.
Calling hours were Feb. 13, at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home in Newmarket.
There was a funeral service Feb. 14 at the Durham Evangelical Church.
John J. Coyne
Died: Wednesday, February 09, 2005
Age: 93
ALTON BAY - John J. Coyne, 93, of Barbara Drive, Alton Shore Estates, Alton Bay, died at home, Wednesday, Feb. 9, after a long period of failing health.
Born in Lawrence, Mass. on May 26, 1911, he was the son of John J. and Mary A. (Byrne) Coyne. The family moved to Methuen, Mass. in 1924. He was educated in Lawrence public schools, and was a graduate of Edward F. Searles High School in Methuen, Mass., class of 1928. Coyne attended Villanova University and Colby College. He had lived in Alton Bay since 1984, after spending several summers there.
Coyne was employed at New England Electric System and retired from New England Power Co., as a systems operator, after 36 years of service.
He was a communicant at St. Katharine Drexel Parish and an Honorary Life Member of Alton Council, Knights of Columbus #7533, and a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.
He leaves his beloved wife, Claire R. (Bonenfant) Coyne of Alton Bay, and numerous cousins in Ireland. He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters Marguerete and Marie; and his brother, Matthew.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday Feb. 12 St. Katharine Drexel Parish in Wolfeboro, with Fr. Richard Wegman, as celebrant. Burial will be in the spring at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton.
Priscilla M. Gienty
Died: Wednesday, February 09, 2005
Age: 66
WOLFEBORO - Priscilla M. Gienty, 66, of Birch Hill Estates, died Feb. 9, at her home.
Born in Wolfeboro Nov. 23, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Morrill and Elva (Hersey) Brown.
She was a graduate of Brewster Academy, class of 1956. For many years she lived in Concord, where for more than 30 years she was employed by Blue Cross/Blue Shield. After her retirement, she and her husband lived in Barefoot Bay, Fla. They moved to Wolfeboro in 1997.
Her husband, Robert B. Gienty, died in 1999.
She leaves a brother, James H. Brown of McLean, Va.; a sister, Shirley Coulter of Chicopee, Mass.; one niece and two nephews; several cousins; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Alosa of Concord.
Graveside services will be held in Hersey Cemetery, Wolfeboro in the spring.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro is in charge of the arrangements.
Roland J. Ouellette
Died: Tuesday, February 08, 2005
Age: 96
DOVER - Roland J. Ouellette, "Mink", 96, formerly of Rochester, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 8, at Dover Rehabilitation and Living Center in Dover.
Born May 18, 1908 and raised in Sanbornville, he was a son of Armand J. and Leda (Lamontagne) Ouellette. He attended school in Sanbornville and was a graduate of Nute High School in Milton, Class of 1928. On Sept. 24, 1934, he married Winona (Karcher) Ouellette; she died Sept. 30, 1994, days after their 60th wedding anniversary.
Before his retirement from Spaulding Fibre, he had been employed with First National, as a caretaker at Pinkham Estate in Brookfield, at Woodbury Farms in Milton Mills, with Milton Leatherboard in Milton, with Clyde Laskey in Milton, with the BandM Railroad, and at the Gafney Home in Rochester.
While at Spaulding Fibre, he was a member of the Wood, Pulp and Paper Union #1424, from their inception in 1967 to his retirement in 1974, also having served as their treasurer.
An avid bowler, he bowled for 40 years in the Spaulding Fibre League and served as their secretary for 36 years. In addition to being the secretary, he wrote a weekly bowling newsletter called "Striking Keys in Spare Time," which he posted at Spaulding Fibre. He also bowled on City B-1 League for 37 years, having served as their treasurer for 30 years, as well as with the 55 League.
He was a communicant at St. Anthony's Church while in Sanbornville and was a communicant of Holy Rosary Church while in Rochester. At St. Anthony's he was a member of the Holy Name Society and also sang in the choir at St. Anthony's and at the former Sacred Heart Church in Milton.
Ouellette had been a fireman in Milton Mills, he was a member of the Good Old Sports in Rochester and worked at Beano at St. Mary's Church in Rochester for five years.
He leaves his son, David R. and wife Ellen Ouellette of York, Maine; his daughter, Jeannette Dixon Haney and husband David Haney of Middleton; his sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Ronald Holmes of Rochester; his sister-in-law, Christine Lessard of Rochester; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Marion Karcher of Rochester; his sister-in-law, Almira Tufts of Dover; his sister-in-law, Marian Karcher of Rochester; and his brother-in-law, Wesley Glennon of Sanbornville. He also leaves his beloved nephews: Thomas and wife Anna Glennon of Harlock, Md. and Jerry and wife Mary Ouellette of Polson, Mont., as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre-deceased by his parents; his brothers, Roch and Maurille Ouellette; his sister, Fabiola Jones; his son-in-law, Wilbur Dixon; his daughter-in-law, Billie Ouellette; and great-grandchildren, Derrick Burrows and Tanya Langlais.
Calling hours were Feb. 13 at Peaslee Funeral Home in Sanbornville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 14, at St. Anthony's Church in Sanbornville, with Fr. Edmund A. Babicz, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in the spring at Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville.
