Adel Leone
Died: Sunday, July 31, 2005
Age: 84
WOLFEBORO - Adel (Teare) Leone, 84, formerly of Sugar Hill and Birch Hill in Wolfeboro, died July 31 at the Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
Born Feb. 24, 1921 in Montclair, N.J., daughter of the late Charles and Marion (Smith) Teare, she has lived in Wolfeboro since 1974, previously living in Verona, N.J. for many years.
Leone was a very active member with All Saints Episcopal Church, volunteering with the Women's Alter Guild, Lord and Tailor Thrift Shop and the Nursery School.
Leone was the widow of Eugene Leone, who died June 29, 1978. Her son, Timothy Leone, died June 13, 1969 in Verona, N.J. She leaves two sons, Eugene Leone of Wolfeboro and Thomas Leone of Montclair, N.J.; a daughter, Susan Leone of South Prairie, Wash.; and a brother, John Teare of Beaufort, N.C. She also leaves two grandchildren: Timothy Richard, who is teaching in Nicaragua, and Alissa Leone of Wolfeboro, who is a student at Bentley College.
A memorial service will be held today, Aug. 4, 10 a.m., at All Saints Episcopal Church in Wolfeboro.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church.

Edward F. Johnson
Died: Wednesday, July 27, 2005
Age: 86
SANBORNVILLE - Edward F. Johnson, of Sanbornville, died July 27 after a brief illness. He was 86 years old.
Born on Sept. 9, 1918 in Malden, Mass., he was the son of Charles A., and Mary Jane (Sonn) Johnson. The family moved to Portsmouth, where he quickly established many life-long friendships.
After serving as president of his high school class for three years, he graduated with the Portsmouth High School Class of 1938. A natural athlete, he enjoyed all sports, captained his high school football team, and lettered in football and basketball. He also discovered golf, an interest he pursued throughout his life.
He met his future wife, Merna Elaine Painter, while both were attending Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill. They were married on July 31, 1943 in Portsmouth while he was on leave from the United States Coast Guard. He subsequently was deployed with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific, and saw combat action there.
He was employed for 25 years by the State of New Hampshire and the US Labor Department as a veterans' counselor in Portsmouth. Particularly in this profession, his dedication to serving others earned him much respect from the community, as well as recognition, even years later, from many of the veterans he helped employ. He was meticulous in his attention to detail, and had a vibrant life force and a very strong faith, all of which contributed to his ability to help others.
After retirement, he became an active member of the Wakefield and Tavares, Fla. Lions Clubs. With both clubs, he especially enjoyed coordinating fundraising activities with local businesses and participating in the Lions' drives to collect eyeglasses.
During the holidays, he represented the Lions Club in his service work with disabled children in Florida. He loved to cook and prepared many delicious meals for his Lions Clubs' friends, as well as his family.
He was a Communicant of Saint Anthony's Parish in Sanbornville, where he served for forty years as an usher and greeter at Mass. Recently, he was also a Communicant of Saint Michael's Parish in South Berwick, Maine, where he made many new friends.
Johnson was the husband of the late Merna E. (Painter) Johnson. He was also pre-deceased by his sister, Ruth Ronnquist, of York, Maine. He is survived by two brothers, Walter Johnson of Mount Dora, Fla., and Charles Johnson of Newmarket. He is also survived by his five children, Christine Johnson of South Berwick, Maine, Byron Johnson of Tiverton, R.I., Cynthia Rogers of Eagle River, Alaska, Carol Kuhn of Fairfax, Calif., Nancy Kirtland of Dover Point, and his five grandchildren, Madeleine and Rylie Kuhn, Kyle and Erich Stumpe, and Benjamin Johnson.
Calling hours were held at Peaslee Funeral Home in Sanbornville, July 31. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, Aug. 1 at Saint Anthony's Church in Sanbornville with Fr. Edmund A. Babicz, pastor as celebrant. Interment followed at Lovell Lake Cemetery in Sanbornville.

Norman E. LaPanne
Died: Monday, July 25, 2005
Age: 74
TILTON - Norman E. LaPanne, 74, formerly of Alton, died Monday morning, July 25, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, where he most recently lived.
Born Dec. 23, 1930 in Colchester, Conn., he was the son of the late Albanie and Amelia (Brissard) LaPanne. Raised in South Berwick, Maine, he lived for several years in Alton, and in New Durham for 20 years. Before moving to New Durham, he had lived in Farmington for 25 years.
A United States Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of the American Legion Post #47 in Rollinsford.
LaPanne retired from Textron in Farmington after 10 years. He had also worked as a supervisor for Roberts Shoe Co. in Somersworth for 20 years.
He leaves two sons, Dennis LaPanne of Alton and Jeff LaPanne of Sanford, Maine; a daughter, Gloria Lesperance of Shapleigh, Maine; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and a brother, David LaPanne. He also leaves four sisters: Lorraine Little of Sanford, Maine; Evelyn Corritori and Theresa Burby, both of Barrington, and Florence Hancock of New Durham; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons: Wayne and Glenn LaPanne and two brothers: Robert and Gilbert LaPanne.
A graveside service will be held tomorrow, July 29, at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington, 10 a.m., with military honors. There are no calling hours, family and friends are welcome to the service.

Donald Hugo Ferber

Age: 83
Navy veteran, marketed the twist-tie
CHOCORUA - Donald Hugo Ferber, 83, of Chocorua, died peacefully with his family, on Jan. 2, from natural causes.
Ferber was born in Hohokus, N.J. on Aug. 19, 1921. He grew up in Ridgewood, N.J., joining the Navy after high school. He served from 1942-1948.
He settled in Bergen County, N.J. and worked as a salesman selling "tickets and tags and marking machines" for the A. Kimball Company in New York City. He later moved his family to Mamaroneck, N.Y. and started his own company, Tie Easy Corporation, producing and marketing the twist-tie.
Ferber retired to Chocorua in 1985 after 40 summers of family vacations there. He loved cars and often entered antique auto shows in the area. He also built model airplanes and especially loved playing card games with his friends and family.
He leaves two daughters, Linda Balogh of Silver Lake, and Barbara Ferber of Brownfield, Maine. He also leaves eight grandchildren: Sean O'Brien, Rory Palmer, Tiffany DeStefano, Carolyn McCarthy, Deborah Wilmot, Gregory Balogh, Arielle Garrison, Jessica Ferber, as well as seven great-grandchildren.
Ferber's wife Catherine predeceased him, as well as his daughter Judy and son Donald.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at the Lutheran Church of the Nativity in North Conway. Donations in his memory may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Nativity, PO Box 1630, Grove Street, North Conway, NH 03860.

Joseph Edmund Bradley

Founder of Bradley's Hardware
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Joseph Edmund Bradley, Jr., formerly of Wolfeboro, died at the age of 78 in Newport Beach, Calif. on Jan. 2 after a short illness.
Bradley graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and Bowdoin College. He moved to Wolfeboro in 1955 and founded Bradley's Hardware. He was a ski patrolman at Mt. Whittier for many years. He helped found the Wolfeboro Rescue Squad and taught E.M.T. classes.
Bradley retired to Aspen, Colo., where he continued to work on ski patrol and was a ski instructor until this year. He also continued teaching E.M.T. courses.
He leaves his wife, Joanne, of Newport Beach; two sons and one daughter: Jeb Bradley of Wolfeboro, Jock Bradley of Seattle, Wash.; and Carol Bradley of New York City. He had six grandchildren; Jan, Ramona, Noel, and Sebastian of Wolfeboro, and Remington and Sage Bradley of Seattle.
Alfred G. Demoree

Veteran, could fix anything
SANBORNVILLE - Alfred G. Demoree, 78, of Linda Lane, died Jan. 1, 2005 at the Huggins Hospital after a long and brave fight with lung cancer.
Born in Lynn, Mass., Aug. 29, 1926, he was the son of the late Frank B. and Ida (Bartaletti) Demoree Sr. He lived in Lynn for over 62 years prior to retiring to New Hampshire.
A United States Naval Veteran during World War II and the Korean war, he served his country as a First Class Petty Officer Damage Control on the USS Carlisle, later transferring to the United States Coast Guard, serving again as First Class Damage Control on the USS Dexter. After his Honorable Discharge he worked at Atwood and Morrill in Salem, Mass. for 32 years, working his way through the ranks as a machinist. Known as the Wizard, he could fix just about anything.
While living in Massachusetts, he coached Little League, was active in the Scouts, and was a member of many square dance clubs (the Yankee Twirlers, Seaside Steppers, Oxford Squares, Fairtown Squares, Candy Canes). He was a life member of VFW post 2346 in Saugus, Mass. He was a wonderful ballroom dancer, and also enjoyed roller-skating, bowling, gambling, fishing and travel, having made several trips across the United States in his motor home. After retiring to Sanbornville, Demoree belonged to Pairs & Spares of Sanbornville, was a member of the Wakefield and Wolfeboro Senior citizens, and Wranglers of Wolfeboro. He volunteered at the Huggins Hospital, Mountain View Nursing Home, and the Ledges.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Barbara A. (Hutchins) Demoree of Sanbornville; one son, William Demoree and his wife Joanne of Peabody, Mass., owner of C&C Lobster; one daughter, Gail Watson and her husband Mark of Granite; three granddaughters: Casey and Courtney Demoree of Peabody, Mass., and Kate Watson of Granite. He also leaves four siblings: Jennie Ruggerio of Peabody, Mass.; Frank Demoree of Fort Myers, Fla.; Robert Demoree of Santa Maria, Calif.; and Gloria Hackett of Glendora, Calif. He was predeceased by his sister, Lena Gregg. He will be dearly missed by his companion and friend his dog Sailor.
A graveside funeral was held Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the Lindenwood Cemetery in Stoneham, Mass. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 360 Route 101 Suite 501 Bedford, NH 03110-5032. Alice Mae Davis

Loving mother and homemaker
LEBANON, Maine - Alice Mae (Hanson) Davis, 85, of Lebanon, Maine died Dec. 31, 2004 at home surrounded by her family after a period of failing health.
Born Feb. 4, 1919 in Center Ossipee, she was the daughter of the late Lewis M. and Karen L. (Canney) Hanson. She attended Center Ossipee schools, and later moved to Maine.
She was a loving mother and homemaker. She had run the Sanford Town Infirmary, and had also worked in the Sanford School System in the cafeteria.
She was a member of the North Berwick Lebanon Baptist Church, as well as a long time member of the Chickville Church Cemetery Association. She loved to sew, knit, cook, and make wedding cakes for family and friends.
She leaves two daughters, Karen Romano, of North Berwick, Maine, and Christine Colby, of Lebanon, Maine. Also she leaves six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her friend Charlie Blair, of Massachusetts.
She was predeceased by husband of 48 years Laurence B. Davis, by her granddaughter Marcy Romano, her sister Phyllis Jones, and her brother Kenneth Hanson.
Calling hours were held Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Chickville Church, Chickville Road, Center Ossipee. The Reverend David McGuire officiating.
