Florence Marie Booth
Died: Tuesday, December 27, 2005
Age: 97
WOLFEBORO - Florence Marie (Ockuly) Booth, 97, died Dec. 27, at the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee. She was born April 20, 1908, the tenth of 11 children in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Theresa (Kleine) Ockuly. Prior to living in Wolfeboro, she lived in Sun City, Ariz., previously living in Rocky River, Ohio.
Her late husband of 64 years, John W. Booth, was the advertising director for the Cleveland Plain Dealer for many years.
Mrs. Booth was an active volunteer at Saint John's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and Boswell Hospital in Sun City, Ariz.
Survivors include her only child, David Booth and his wife Patricia of Wolfeboro, four grandchildren, John Booth, Joseph Booth, Ann Booth Merrill, Mary Booth Meagher and 10 great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be said in her memory at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church in January.

Lillian D. Randall
Died: Saturday, December 24, 2005
Age: 81
NEW DURHAM - Lillian D. Randall, 81, formerly of Old Bay Road in New Durham, died at the Rochester Manor Saturday morning Dec. 24, after a lengthy illness.
Born July 31, 1924 in Farmington, she was the daughter of the late Ralph C. and Helen D. (Yeaton) Trask. She was born and raised in Farmington, where she lived until moving to New Durham in 1970, where she lived for 30 years. Lillian had lived at the Garnet House in Farmington for two years moving to the Rochester Manor in 1997.
A graduate of Farmington High School, she was a homemaker most of her life. She and her late husband, Roswell, had owned and operated Randall's Bait Shop in New Durham for many years. She enjoyed sewing, the outdoors, fishing and being with her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Farmington for more than 50 years.
She was the widow of Roswell J. Randall, who died Aug. 8, 1990. A sister, Evelyn Tatro of Seabrook, died in 2005.
Survivors include her son, Clayton Randall and his wife Susan of New Durham, a sister, Mrs. Shirley Pettingill of Salisbury, Mass., a grandson, Benjamin M. Randall of Saranac Mich., a great-grandson, Caleb B. Randall, also of Saranac, Michigan, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held Monday evening, Dec. 26 at the C.E. Peaslee & Son Funeral Home 24 Central St., Farmington. A funeral service was scheduled for Dec. 27 at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas F. Clark of the Tri City Covenant church in Somersworth officiating. Isabelle A. (Horne) Connor
Died: Thursday, December 22, 2005
Age: 98
LACONIA - Isabelle A. (Horne) Connor, 98, died Dec. 22 at St Francis Home in Laconia.
Mrs. Connor was born in Wolfeboro on Sept. 9, 1907, daughter of the late Pierce and Bertha (Fox) Horne. She lived in Wolfeboro for most of her life, moving to Laconia in 1992. She graduated from Brewster Academy and worked as a nurse's aid at Huggins Hospital for many years.
She was a communicant at St Cecilia's Church in Wolfeboro, and loved to garden and dance.
She was the widow of Richard Connor, who died in 1961. Her daughter, Jean Stevens, died in 2002. She is survived by a daughter, Ann Bourgeois, of Winter Spring, Fla., eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St Francis Home.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Wolfeboro is in charge of the arrangements.
Dorothy W. Swaffield
Died: Wednesday, December 21, 2005
Age: 90
ALTON - Dorothy W. Swaffield of East Alton, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep Dec. 21. Born in Arlington, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Anne M. Woodward. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Swaffield, a sister Elizabeth Stafford and brother Alfred (Woody) Woodward Jr. She is survived by her sister, Virginia W. Bates of St. Petersburg, Fla., and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Among her dearest friends are Bob and Shirley Richardson with whom she shared many happy memories.
Mrs. Swaffield (Dottie), a lover of genealogy, has researched immediate and extended families' ancestral heritage over the years. She also wrote poetry and read extensively. She had been employed by Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro.
She was secretary to Dean David Smith for many years until her retirement in the early 1980s.
After the death of her husband, Dottie lived alone for 40 years in Alton. When her health started to fail, she sold her cottage and moved to Summer Place Retirement Home in Chelmsford, Mass. She lived there happily for five years writing and reading her poetry, and playing Cribbage and Scrabble with her many friends there.
In 2004, Dot returned to Alton, and lived at The Gilman Home. When her health declined, she returned to her original home where she stayed with her niece and nephew "in-laws," Betsy and Wes Turner, until her death.
A celebration of Dottie's life is being planned for the spring and all of her friends are welcome. More information will be provided when arrangements are made. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the VNA-Hospice of Southern Carroll County, Brewster Academy Students' Fund, or the charity of your choice.
Shirley Drew
Died: Saturday, December 17, 2005
Age: 85
ALTON - Shirley (Lane) Drew, 85, of Hall's Hill Road in Alton, died at home on Saturday Dec. 17.
Born Aug. 15, 1920 in Alton, a daughter of the late Benjay and Mildred (Gilman) Lane, she lived in Alton all of her life.
Shirley worked side by side with her husband Melvin Drew in their building moving business. For many years, she managed the operation of their Drew's Blueberry Farm, in addition to raising their family.
She was a member and taught Sunday school at the Advent Christian Church in Farmington for more than 50 years. Most recently, she attended the Community Church of Alton.
The widow of the late Melvin V. Drew, who died on July 7, 1998, she is survived by two daughters: Donna Hall of Valencia, Calif., Jacqi Gough of Alton. Sharan Eggimann predeceased her in October 2002.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Daniel Hall, Danielle Mills and Sharan Crabtree; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Spear of N.C, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 11 a.m., at the Community Church of Alton (20 Church St.), with the Rev. John Fogell and the Rev. Eggimann, officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Old Riverside Cemetery on Main Street in Alton. Arrangements are in the care of Peaslee Alton Funeral Home, 12 School St., Alton.
Charlotte G. McDermott

Huggins volunteer for 50 years
WOLFEBORO - Charlotte G. McDermott, 91, died Jan. 19 at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Wolfeboro. A resident of Wolfeboro since 1948, she was the widow of John W. McDermott, who died in 1991. For many years they resided at 72 South Main Street, before moving to Harvey Brook Road in Birch Hill Estates in 1989.
McDermott was born in Waltham, Mass. on June 14, 1914, the daughter of the late William F. and Jane M. Gibbs of Waltham. She graduated from Waltham High School in 1931 and from the Chamberlain School in Boston in 1933. She married John McDermott in 1938.
After moving to Wolfeboro, she and her husband became deeply involved in the community and remained so throughout their lives. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro for over fifty years, serving on various committees and boards. In later years, she and her husband served as volunteer coordinators for countless weddings on behalf of the Church.
She was a Girl Scout leader from 1953-1963, and she was recognized for fifty continuous years of service as a Huggins Hospital volunteer and member of the Huggins Hospital Auxiliary. She was a member of Hospice of Southern Carroll County, the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen, the Governor Wentworth Arts Council, and the Wolfeboro Historical Society.
She was also a member of the Lakes Region Grange and was the recipient of the Grange Community Service Award in 1994. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of Hearthstone Homes, the Wolfeboro housing for the elderly. In recognition of their many contributions and years of service to the Wolfeboro community, John and Charlotte McDermott were the recipients of the Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award in 1980.
She leaves her son, John W. McDermott, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Emily Sykes McDermott, of Amherst, Mass.; her daughter, Cynthia M. Kaplan, and son-in-law, Paul W. Kaplan of Gunnison, Colo. and Swans Island, Maine. She also leaves a granddaughter, Dr. Kathryn A. McDermott, and her husband, Mark V. Landeryou, of Amherst, Mass., and their two children, James and Charlotte, who was named for her great-grandmother. McDermott is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Carpenter McGhee, of Lewistown, Mont., and by a number of nieces and nephews, and their children. A brother and sister-in-law, William and Vivienne Gibbs of Bow, died in 1995.
A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church, Wolfeboro, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lakes Region Humane Society, P.O. Box 2231, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Bruce K. Gregory
Died: Sunday, January 16, 2005

Avid music collector
NORTH CONWAY - Bruce K. Gregory, 56, of North Conway, died Jan. 16, at his home. Born in Newton, Mass., the son of Ralph and Dorothy (Bazley) Gregory, he had lived in North Conway for several years.
Gregory was an avid collector of music and enjoyed playing records.
His family includes his mother, Dorothy Gregory of Wolfeboro and a brother, Richard Gregory.
A memorial service will be held today (Thursday) at 1 p.m. at the NCIL office, 20 Swett Street in North Conway.
The Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway is in charge of arrangements.
David F. Bye
Died: Friday, January 14, 2005
Age: 45
Former Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy
WOLFEBORO - David F. Bye, 45, of Bryant Road passed away suddenly Friday, Jan. 14, in Wolfeboro. He was a lifelong resident of Wolfeboro.
He was born Dec. 23, 1959, the son of Donald H. and Virginia (Stockton) Bye, of Ossipee. He attended Carpenter School in Wolfeboro, and later graduated from Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro, class of 1977.
He attended Massassoit Community College and received a degree in criminal justice. He was also a member of the 47th New Hampshire Police Standards and Training Academy. He served as a cadet and deputy with the Carroll County Sheriff's office, a police officer with the Wakefield Police Department, and on the N.H. Gaming Enforcement Commission. After his retirement from the sheriff's office he began a landscaping business in Wolfeboro, which he operated for the past 10 years.
He was a past member of the N.H. Police Association. He coached for several years with the Wolfeboro/Tuftonboro Little League and sponsored the "Red Sox," the 2004 Cal Ripken Baseball League champions in Wolfeboro.
He lived for his children, family and friends, and he gave of himself to his community and profession.
He will be greatly missed by his dearest friend, Lisa Randall of Wolfeboro, and his children, Andrea and Andrew Bye of Wolfeboro.
He is also survived by parents Donald H. and Virginia (Stockton) Bye, of Ossipee; his sisters: Diane Balser, of Brookfield; Darlene Towle, of Rochester; and Dawn Amico, of Danvers, Mass.; his paternal grandmother Ruth Bye, of Danvers; many nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Randy Hooper.
Calling hours were Monday from at the Lord Funeral Home, in Wolfeboro. Funeral services were Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church, North Main Street, Wolfeboro. A spring burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro.
