Evelyn Milloy
A Wolfeboro resident for more than 20 years

WOLFEBORO - Evelyn Chell Milloy, 68, of New Garden Road, died June 11, 2001, at Huggins Hospital.
She was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Lawrence, Mass. She graduated from Lawrence High School.
In 1979, she and her late husband, William John Milloy, moved to their home on New Garden Road.
Family members include a son, Michael P. Milloy of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Susan B. Richardson of Boscawen; and a grandson, Kevin Patrick Milloy of Davenport, Iowa.
There were no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 15, at All Saints Episcopal Church on South Main Street.
Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Southern Carroll County, PO Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.
Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Pohl
Longtime resident of Burlington, Mass.

WOLFEBORO - Marilyn (Yeadon) Pohl, 73, died Monday. June 4, 2001, at Huggins Hospital.
Born in Boston, daughter of Charles and Gladys Yeadon, she was raised in Lynn and Swampscott, Mass. After high school, she attended Burdett College in Boston. She moved to Burlington, Mass., 44 years ago.
Over the years, she raised three daughters, became active in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and was a frequent visitor to the public library.
She was the widow of Robert R. Pohl, who died in 1987. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Kim.
Family members include two daughters, Robin Boutin of West Ossipee and Susan Pohl of Whitinsville; and three grandchildren.
Services were held June 7 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Burial followed at Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington, Mass.
Memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice of Southern Carroll County and Vicinity, PO Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

Ann J. Sawyer
Active in the Ossipee community

OSSIPEE - Ann J. Sawyer, 73, of Old Route 28, died June 9, 2001, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.
She was born May 3, 1928, in Wolfeboro, daughter of Thomas and Margaret McHugh. She lived most of her life in Ossipee.
In 1946, she graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro.
She and her husband owned and operated the Ossipee Insurance Agency for many years. She also attended insurance courses and worked as branch manager of the Sanbornville office.
In addition, she served as ballot clerk in Ossipee, drove for Meals on Wheels, donated blood and taught classes at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Center Ossipee.
She was a past member of the Indian Mound Golf Club, Center Ossipee, where she had earned the Most Improved Golfer Award.
She enjoyed gardening and bird watching.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Theodore P. Sawyer.
Family members include her husband, Hayes W. Sawyer, Jr., of Ossipee; four sons, Hayes W. “Tom” Sawyer III of Ossipee, Jonathan Sawyer of Ogunquit, Maine, Matthew Sawyer of Ossipee and Michael Sawyer of Tuftonboro; three daughters, Elizabeth Earle of Freedom, Mary Simpson of Wolfeboro and Susan Whitney of Goffstown; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, T. Leo McHugh of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Lester P. McHugh of Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland; a sister, Margaret Wentworth of Wakefield; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial is being celebrated this morning, June 14, at 10 a.m. in St. Cecilia Church, Wolfeboro. Burial will be in Ossipee Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to Ossipee Concerned Citizens, Center Ossipee, NH 03814.

Eleanor Hunter

NEW SHARON, Maine - Eleanor Carol Hunter, 83, formerly of Hampton and Wolfeboro, N.H., died June 13, 2001, in New Sharon.
She had lived in Hampton from 1950 until 1982 and in Wolfeboro on Lakeview Terrace from 1982 until 1996.
Services will be held Saturday, June 16, at 10 a.m. at the Old South Congregational Church in Farmington, Maine.
At press time, arrangements concerning calling hours were incomplete. Friends are welcome to call Mrs. Hunter’s son, Ronald Hunter, at (207) 778-4351 for more information.
A complete obituary will appear in next week’s paper.

Elizabeth Schaefer

ALTON - Graveside services for Elizabeth Schaefer, who died Nov. 30, 2000, will be held Saturday, June 16, at 10 a.m. at New Riverside Cemetery, Alton.

Margaret ‘Jill’ Bayer
Retired RN, active in church and community

MELVIN VILLAGE - Margaret “Jill” L. Bayer, 84, of Governor Wentworth Highway, died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
She was born June 10, 1916, in Montclair, N.J., daughter of John and Pauline (DeIesi) Lockwood. She had lived in the family home in Melvin Village for more than four decades.
She was a registered nurse, having graduated from Columbia Presbyterian School of Nursing in 1936.
She lovingly facilitated the life of the Melvin Village Church as a member, clerk and secretary. She was active in community organizations such as the Hikers and Women’s Guild.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Robert K. Bayer and Robert W. Buchanan, and a twin brother, John A. Lockwood.
Family members include her children and their spouses, Judy and David Soncrant of Lawrenceville, N.J.; Douglas and Lesley Buchanan of Belmont, Mass., Sally and James Tennent of Brampton, Ont., Canada, Curtis and Weenonah Bayer of Omaha, Neb., and Robert and Mary Buchanan of Catonsville, Md.; a sister-in-law, Betty Lockwood of Northport, L.I., N.Y.; three nieces; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Feb. 28 at Melvin Village Community Church. A burial service will be held June 10 at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Huggins Hospital, South Main Street, Wolfeboro, NH 03894.
Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes and Cremation Service are in charge of arrangements.

Edith Connelly
Led a distinguished career in nursing

NEW DURHAM - Edith Evelyn Connelly, 98, formerly of 300 Old Bay Road, died late Friday evening, Feb. 23, 2001, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
She was born Oct. 31, 1902, in Dover, daughter of Charles F. and Edith A. (Jenkins) Bennett. Raised in Dover and a graduate of Dover High School, she had lived in New Durham since 1930 and, for the past two years, had lived in Wolfeboro with her granddaughter, Anne.
She graduated from Faulkner Nursing School in Boston, Mass., with the Class of 1923 and had had a distinguished career in nursing throughout New England for more than 50 years before her retirement. She had also volunteered for the Red Cross.
She was predeceased by her husband, William A. Connelly, in 1956, and a daughter, Jean C. Schneider, in November, 1996.
Family members include a son-in-law, Tony Schneider of Lawton, Ohio; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kathleen and Tom Glenn of Longmont, Col., Anne and Kurt Lehner of Wolfeboro, Elaine Schneider of Mesa, Ariz., Kirsten Schneider of Denton, Texas, and Patrick Schneider of Longmont, Col.; three great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services were held Feb. 28 at Peaslee & Son Funeral Home, Farmington, with the Rev. Dr. Douglas Andrews, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring at John C. Shirley Memorial Cemetery in New Durham.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Visiting Nurses association of one’s choice.

Doris S. Smith
Charter member of Twelve Corners Church

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Doris S. (Sackett) Smith, 93, died Feb. 22, 2000.
She was born June 20, 1907, in Avon, N.Y., graduated from Simmons College in 1929, and was a charter member of Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church.
She was the widow of J. Stanford Smith.
Family members include her children, Peter V. Smith of Wolfeboro, N.H., Roger M. Smith, Sandra J. Smith and Jonatha S. Caimano; a sister, Ruby Semple; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and several nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m. at Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church, 1200 Winton Road S., Rochester, N.Y. 14618. Contributions in her memory may be directed to the Twelve Corners Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
