MEREDITH - A graveside service will be held Saturday, May 17, at 11 a.m., at Meredith Village Cemetery for Hester Kempton, who died Feb. 16, 2003, in Wolfeboro.

FREEDOM - A graveside service for Thomas Hobbs, who died March 9, 2003, in Florida, will be held Friday, May 16, at 5 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Freedom.

Pauline Couture
Summer resident of Wolfeboro
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Pauline G. Couture, 81, of Wakefield, died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at Bear Hill Nursing Center there.
She was born Sept. 23, 1921, in Berlin, N.H., daughter of Paul E. and Caroline (Light) Grenier. She graduated from Berlin High School, where she was captain of the girls’ basketball team.
She was a member of the Hartshorne House Association and St. Joseph Church.
Mrs. Couture was a longtime summer resident of Wolfeboro, N.H.
She was the widow of Robert E. Couture.
Family members include two sons, Robert. Couture of Andover, Mass., and William Couture of Windham, N.H.; a daughter, Catherine Alleva of Tewksbury, Mass.; and seven grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Paul E. Grenier and Geneva Brown.
A funeral Mass was held June 16 at St Joseph Church in Wakefield.
Memorial donations may be made to the American College of Rheumatology, 1800 Century Place, Suite 250, Atlanta, GA 30345.
McDonald Funeral Home, Wakefield, assisted with arrangements.

Jeanadele Magner
Musician, broadcast journalist

WEST LEBANON - Jeanadele Anne Magner, 80, died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
She was born April 15, 1923, in Indianapolis, Ind., a daughter of John L. and Alma Schaefer. She attended public schools in Indianapolis and was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High School.
As a musical child prodigy, she attended Jordan Conservatory in Indianapolis for 17 years, beginning at the age of 3. She received a bachelor’s degree from Butler University in Indianapolis and her master’s degree from Oberlin College in Ohio.
She was instrumental in the development of music therapy, which came into use for the rehabilitation of soldiers. She was a well-known professional musician throughout the East and Midwest and had performed with various professional theaters and groups.
She was also employed in the services of marketing pre-paid legal services.
With her husband, she was a broadcast journalist and co-host of the worldwide daily radio show, “Off The Wing Tip.”
Recently, she and her husband had provided many hours of service on the staff of the Nursing Support Team as Patient Sitters for critically ill patients at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
Family members include her husband, Ken Magner of West Lebanon, whom she married in 1962; four children, Donna Shockley of Wolfeboro and Lynnfield, Mass., Diana Young of Windsor, Va., Beth Martin of Romeo, Mich., and John Magner of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, John Schaefer of Indianapolis, Ind.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held June 7 in the chapel at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to your local Humane Society.

Dorothy Stauber
Had worked in publishing, loved animals

WOLFEBORO - Dorothy (Howarth) Stauber, 90, of The Ledges, died June 12, 2003.
She was born in Newark, NJ on June 2, 1913 and resided there until moving to Wolfeboro from Basking Ridge in 1980.
She was the widow of Harold H. Stauber, who died March 1, 1961.
Mrs. Stauber was employed by Silver Burdett Co., Textbook Publishers, as senior production assistant in charge of textbook reprints. Upon her retirement in 1978, she was awarded the Silver Burdett President’s Award for developing a new system for handling text corrections, which greatly shortened the process.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro and was one of the original coordinators for Caregivers. She was a devoted animal lover sharing her life with her special cat, Susie.
Family members include two sons, Robert H. Stauber and Harold W. Stauber Sr. of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters Barbara E. Koch of Enfield and Nancy L. Heinz of Weaverville, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held June 18 at Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Wolfeboro.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Congregational Church Scholarship Fund or the Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee.

Service June 21

WOLFEBORO - A memorial service for Pauline “Polly” Barbour of Wolfeboro, who died Dec. 7, 2002, will be held Saturday, June 21, at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro.

Nancy Ellis
Memorial Service June 21

TUFTONBORO - Nancy Easton Ellis of Tuftonboro and Pompano Beach, Fla., died Jan. 26, 2003, after a brave battle with leukemia.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 21, at 1 p.m. at Mirror Lake Community Church for Mrs. Ellis and her husband, Jim (who died in 1998).
Following the service, the couple’s children, Jeanne Ellis Ormrod and J. Peter Ellis, will host a reception, luncheon and celebration of life at the family home in Tuftonboro. All friends and family are most welcome.

CENTER OSSIPEE - A graveside service will be held Sunday, June 22, at 1 p.m. at Grant Hill Cemetery, Center Ossipee, for Mary K. Lux of Rolling Wood Drive, Wolfeboro, who died Jan. 28, 2003.

Service June 27

WOLFEBORO - A memorial service for Cleo Shultz, who died May 6, 2003, will be held June 27 at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church on South Main Street.

Jeanne Loudon
Music educator
RYE BEACH - Jeanne Loudon, formerly of Winchester, Mass., and Wolfeboro, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, after battling, with tremendous courage, an inoperable brain tumor. She would have turned 81 on Thursday, Oct. 2.
A graduate of Newton High School and the Music Conservatory of Baldwin Wallace College in Ohio, she held a master’s degree from Boston University.
She taught vocal music in Winchester Public Schools for more than 25 years, retiring in 1982, and previously was music teacher at Wellesley Junior High School. In 1975, she was honored by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association by being chosen the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ Music Teacher of the Year.
She believed that every child could sing and enjoy the pleasure of singing as well as appreciate both contemporary music and that of the Masters.
She gave numerous summer workshops for teachers throughout the United States. Many of these were conducted in conjunction with Grace Nash, a noted proponent of the Orff and Kodaly methods of music teaching and author of “That We Might Live.”
Her cousin, Dorothy Loudon, who won a Tony Award for her role in the musical, “Annie,” and starred with Katherine Hepburn in “West Side Waltz,” enjoyed coming to Winchester to hear Ms. Loudon’s children’s choruses.
After Ms. Loudon retired to Rye Beach, she was active in bridge groups, a book club and golf.
Family members include one sister, Lois Loudon Cutler of El Paso, Texas; five nieces and nephews; and many friends.
A music scholarship memorial will be established by the family. Donations may be made care of Winchester Savings Bank, 666 Main St., Winchester, MA 01890, attn. Lorraine Greco.

Linda Palmer
Enjoyed the outdoors and gardening
TUFTONBORO - Linda A. (Peterson) Palmer, 57, of Brown Road, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro after a courageous, three-year battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 28, 1945, in Brockton, Mass., daughter of Carl F.W. and Marie (O’Leary) Peterson. She graduated from Brockton High School and had lived in Tuftonboro for the past 30 years.
She enjoyed the outdoors and will be remembered for her love of gardening.
Family members include her husband of 29 years, George B. Palmer of Tuftonboro; a son, Raymond E. Dubois of Lakeville, Mass.; a daughter, Dianne M. (Dubois) Fletcher of Manchester; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Townhouse Cemetery, Tuftonboro.
Memorial donations may be made to the Lakes Region Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
Lord Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
