Eulogia Vicente
Mother, devoted church member

MADRID, Spain - Eulogia Arribas Vicente, 78, of Madrid, died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, at the home of her daughter.
She was born in Spain and spent most of her life in Segovia, Spain. Widowed with four young children, she worked as a housekeeper to support and raise her children.
She was well known in her community in Segovia and was a devoted member of the Church of San Lorenzo.
Family members include her four children, Alejandro Velez Arribas of Brookfield, NH, Santiago Velez Arribas of Segovia, Spain, Pilar Velez Arribas of Madrid, Spain, and Isabel Velez Arribas of Aranda, Spain; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Jan. 10 in Segovia.

Ruth Valentine
Former teacher, active in the community

WOLFEBORO - Ruth Valentine, 87, of Wolfeboro, died March 18, 2002.
She was born Feb. 9, 1915 in Iowa to Clara and Fred Woodson. She and her family moved to California when she was six.
She received a teaching degree from UCLA in 1937 and taught elementary school in the Los Angeles area.
She married Dick Valentine, a teacher and administrator, in 1939. They shared an active life together, enjoying trailer trips with their three children and international travel on their own.
Mrs. Valentine provided calm, insightful and cheerful leadership to many community organizations, both in California and Wolfeboro, among them the PTA and American Field Service. She was a deacon, elder and Sunday school teacher and women’s association member at her church and created altar flower arrangements. She also arranged rides for Caregivers.
She and her husband moved to Wolfeboro in 1983. He predeceased her in 1989.
Family members include her children, Eric, Greg and Christine, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her memorial service will take place Friday, March 22, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro.
In lieu of flowers, friends are requested to make donations to the Educational Scholarship Fund at First Congregational Church of Wolfeboro or to the charity of the giver’s choice.

Paul Keriazes
Member of Brewster Class of 1954

HAMPTON - Paul Keriazes, 70, of 12th Street, died March 16, 2002, at the Seacoast Health Center.
He was born Jan. 31, 1932, in Manchester, son of Andrew and Vasilike (Zekos) Kariazes. He had lived in Hampton for 14 years, having come from Wappingers Falls, NY.
He was a 1951 graduate of Manchester Central High School and, after the war, attended the college prep program at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, Class of 1954. He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston, Class of 1957, and Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, class of 1969.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
He worked for 30 years as an electrical engineer for IBM’s research and development facility in Poughkeepsie, retiring in 1987.
He was fond of riding his bicycle and working in his gardens, playing bridge and living at the shore. He was a member of Portsmouth Lodge of Elks 97.
Family members include his wife of 45 years, Catherine (Kanteres) Keriazes of Hampton; a daughter, Paula Keriazes of New York City; a son, Andrew Keriazes of Rensselaer, NY; a granddaughter; a brother, Steve Keriazes of Hooksett; five sisters, Eva Covatis and Alice Lylis of Hampton, Maria Sanders and Joanne Keriazes of Manchester, and Elizabeth Hatzos of Barnstead; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Ruth Mowatt
Retired teacher, longtime resident

WOLFEBORO - Ruth T. Mowatt of Wolfeboro died early Monday, March 18, 2002, at Huggins Hospital after a long illness.
She was a longtime resident of Wolfeboro and had many family ties to its history. She loved her summer home on Lake Wentworth as well as her home at Old Mill.
She had taught school for many years and retired from the Arlington County, Virginia, school system.
She was active in the community with DAR, the Loon Preservation Committee, Lake Wentworth Association, hospital volunteering and the Congregational Church. No matter where she was, she always considered Wolfeboro her roots and her home.
She was the widow of Frederick W. Mowatt.
Family members include her brother, Charles S. Tarr of Wolfeboro; three children, Jane M. Mitchell, Judith M. Martin and Dr. David T. Mowatt; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held early this summer.

Paul Duddy, Sr.
Retired executive

BOOTHWYN, Pa. - Paul D. Duddy, Sr., of Boothwyn, formerly of Waltham, Mass., died March 8, 2002, in Boothwyn.
He was born in Waltham, Mass., son of Francis and Grace (Morris) Duddy. He worked for 25 years for Sullivan Automotive in Waltham before moving to Pennsylvania, where he also worked for many years and retired as an executive for Blue M Division of General Signal of Chicago.
Family members include his wife, Sue (McGary) Duddy of Boothwyn; his children and their spouses, Cheryl and Richard Schoenfeld of Dedham, Mass., Paula and Steven Moore of Acton, Maine, Beth Duddy of Fitchburg, Mass., Paul D. and Alice Duddy, Jr., of Framingham, Mass, Mary Alice Nagengast and her husband, Gary Schultz of Avoca, Iowa, and James H. Duddy of Sweden; 11 grandchildren; a sister and brother, Charlotte McSorley of Abington, Mass., and Richard Duddy of Northboro, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by siblings Rita Skahil and Francis, Raymond and Ronald Duddy.
The funeral service was held in the Joyce Funeral Home, Waltham, Mass. Burial is private.

George N. Quinn
Electrician and real estate broker

ROCHESTER - George Nicholas “Nick” Quinn, 56, of Evans Road, died suddenly, Saturday morning, March 16, 2002, at Frisbie Memorial Hospital.
He was born Aug. 19, 1945, in Coral Gables, Fla., son of Dr. George E. and Marian M. (Kramer) Quinn. He had lived in Rochester since 1976, having previously resided in Madbury for five years and having come from Farmington.
He was a graduate of Kimball Union Academy in Meriden. He had served 12 years as a member of the NH Air National Guard. He was self-employed as an electrician and a real estate broker, George N. Quinn Real Estate and Q and S Electric.
He had also worked as a police officer with the Farmington Police Department and had worked as a part-time police officer with Milton, Middleton and New Durham police departments.
He was a member of Le Club Victoire in Rochester and the Lakes Region Board of Realtors. He was a collector of antiques and enjoyed traveling.
Family members include his wife, Linda J. (Young) Quinn of Rochester; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. George E. Quinn of Farmington; five siblings, Eliot G. Quinn of Port Orchard, Wash., James S. Quinn of Lebanon, Maine, Anthony “Tony” S. Quinn of Milton, Vt., April A. Beauregard of New Durham and Karl W. Quinn of Fairfield, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held March 19 at C.E. Peaslee and Son Funeral Home in Farmington. The Rev. Susan Goodwin, pastor of First Congregational Church, Farmington, officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to the Scholarship Fund at Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, NH 03770.

George Varney
Alton native and lifelong resident

ALTON - George P. Varney, 68, of Route 28S, died Friday evening, March 15, 2002, at the Boston Veterans Hospital in West Roxbury, Mass., after a period of failing health.
He was born June 22, 1933, at home on Youngstown Road in Alton, son of Forrest and Hazel (Jones) Varney. He had lived in Alton all his life.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served as a corporal in Germany.
He had owned and operated Varney Asphalt paving. In earlier years, he was employed with R.G. Walkins in Farmington.
He built five of his own homes and was a self-proclaimed “Jack of All Trades.” A Mason, he was a member of Winnipesaukee Lodge 75, F & AM, of Alton.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling, and was involved with the Alton Bay Ice Racing Club.
Family members include five children, Karen V. Marren of Alton, Diane H. Jordan of Gilmanton Iron Works, James P. Varney of Alton, and Jacqueline I. Varney of Alton; nine grandchildren; one brother, Franklin Varney of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sisters, Estella Dore of Alton and Lula Thoroughgood of Alton; cousins, nieces and nephews; his lifelong friend, Don Hislop of Gilmanton; and his former wife, Irene D. (Hillsgrove) Varney of Alton. He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn L. (Dame) Varney and their infant son in 1966.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Old Riverside Cemetery in Alton.
