Orthel A. Werdin
LACONIA - Orthel A. Werdin, 81, of Union Avenue died April 2, 2004, at the Taylor Home, in Laconia.
Born in Beaver Dam, Wis., on June 8, 1922, he was the son of Arthur and Emma Werdin.
He grew up in Fonda Lac, Wis., and graduated from Fonda Lac High School. He lived in Holliston, Mass., for many years and moved to "Kimberwick Farm" in Ossipee in 1979. He resided in the Wolfeboro area for many years and has been a resident of Laconia since 2002.
In 1941, he joined the Navy and served as an aviation mechanic. He met and married Rosalie Lawrence, also in the Navy, in 1944. After the service, he owned and operated Ort’s Auto Body, in Needham, Mass., for many years. He sold his business in 1979 and moved to the farm in New Hampshire and raised Belted Galloway Cows, among other farm animals.
He was a member of the Manson-Carter VFW Post, in Needham, Mass., and the Holliston Lodge of Masons, in Holliston, Mass., both for many years.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed golf, fishing and was an animal lover. He was also a generous contributor to many underprivileged children and children’s organizations.
He was predeceased by a son, Jerrold Lawrence and a sister, Lucille Christi.
Survivors include his wife of 59 yrs, Rosalie (Lawrence) Werdin of Laconia; two children, David Orthel of Ashville, N.C. and Martha Werdin-Connolly of Meredith; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth Werdin of Hudson, Fla. and Richard Weerdin of Fonda Lac, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held in the St. Michaels Episcopal Church, Holliston, Mass., on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Karen Bettacchi, interim minister, will officiate. Burial will be held in the Lake Grove Cemetery, Holliston. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stratford Children’s Fund, c/o the School Nurse, Stratford Public School, RR#1 Box 8, Stratford, NH. 03590. The Mayhew Funeral Home, in Meredith, is in charge of the arrangements.
Lawrence H. Larsen
LACONIA - Lawrence H. Larsen, 53, of 67 High St., died on Friday, May 28, 2004 at Genesis Eldercare Network, Laconia Center.
Mr. Larsen was born Nov. 25, 1950 in Brockton, Mass., the son of the late Harold P. and Anita G. (LaDeau) Larsen. He was a long-time resident of Brockton, Mass., before moving to Laconia three years ago.
Mr. Larsen served in the Navy. He worked for the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority as a diesel mechanic for 25 years until his retirement.
Mr. Larsen attended the local AA.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara E. (Colman) Larsen of Laconia; a daughter, Sarah Larsen, of Laconia; two sisters, Andrea O'Brien of Brockton, Mass., and Marilyn Camelio of Randolph, Mass.; four nephews, Michael O'Brien, Greg O'Brien, David Camelio and Jack Camelio.
He was predeceased by a niece, Christine Camelio.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 11, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.

Dora MacEslin
BELMONT - A memorial service will be held at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home on Saturday, June 12, 2004, at 11 a.m. for Dora "Dolly" L. MacEslin, RN, 87, of 9 Oak Drive, who died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003.
Burial will follow in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Laconia.
Mrs. MacEslin was born April 16, 1916, in Laconia, the daughter of Valere F. and Kilda M. (Fillion) Drouin and was the widow of Charles H. MacEslin, who died in 1994.
She is survived by two daughters, Bonnie MacEslin and Kathie Gregory; one grandchild; three sisters, Joan Shaw of Belmont, Edith Wilbraham of Mentor, Ohio, and Patricia Hollinghead of Madison, Ohio; three brothers, Leo Drouin, John Drouin and Laurent Drouin, all of Belmont; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Jack Drouin and by two sisters, Alice Laurent and Rita Flack.

Michael R. Cass
BELMONT - Michael R. Cass, 55, of 45 Concord St., died at his home on Friday, June 18, 2004.
Mr. Cass was born May 7, 1949, in Laconia, the son of Raymond and Marie Rose (Vaillancourt) Cass. He was a lifelong resident of Belmont and worked for the Tilton Shell Station for a number of years.
Mr. Cass enjoyed boating, traveling and his two dogs, Renzo and Milo.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin J. and Kimberly Cass, of Manchester; a daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Michael Bystrom of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his mother, Marie Rose Cass of Belmont; three brothers, James S. Cass of Canterbury, Scott A. Cass of Belmont, and Peter F. Cass of Lake Worth, Fla.; a sister, Judy M. Morris of Durham, Maine; a companion of 16 years, Carol A. Lacasse; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Raymond S. Cass, who died in 1990.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at South Road Cemetery, South Road, Belmont.

Elizabeth M. Scott
TILTON - Elizabeth May Scott, 78, formerly of Dearborn Road in Northfield died Friday, June 18, 2004, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen after a period of failing health.
She was born in Concord, July 22, 1925, the daughter of Emerson and Alice (Keaton) Hoar. She lived in the Tilton-Northfield area for several years and resided in Summerfield, Fla., following her husband's retirement.
For many years she was employed as an inspector and assembler at Freudenberg NOK in Tilton. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed reading, playing cards and traveling with her husband to country fairs.
She was predeceased by her husband, Earl E. Scott Jr. who died on Jan. 1, 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis E. Scott of Turners Falls, Mass., and Alan E. Scott of Tilton; three daughters, Nancy Denaris of Tilton, Cheryl Gearin of New Ipswich and Patti McKinney of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Minuitti of Concord; several nieces and nephews.
There are no public calling hours. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery.
The William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton is assisting the family with arrangements.

Beverly Latcovich
LACONIA - Beverly (Baker) Latcovich, of 266 South Main St. died June 12, 2004, at Genesis ElderCare Network-Laconia Center after a long illness.
She was born Aug. 28, 1931, in Laconia, the daughter of the late Lloyd L. Baker and Deveda (Switser) Baker.
Survivors include two sons, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, a brother, sister, two nieces.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 23, at 1 p.m. at Union Cemetery.

Louise D. Greenwood
LACONIA - Louise D. Greenwood, 85, formerly of 13 Greenwood Drive, Belmont, died at St. Francis Nursing Home on Saturday, June 19, 2004.
She was the widow of Clayton Greenwood who died in 1994.
Mrs. Greenwood was born September 10, 1918, in Campton, the daughter of James and Miney (Vose) Dempsey and was a lifelong resident of the Lakes Region.
In 1940, she graduated from the School of Nursing at Elliot Hospital, Manchester. She worked at the Laconia State School & Training Center for several years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the Elliot Hospital Alumni and a member of the State Employees' Association.
Mrs. Greenwood was a communicant of St. Joseph Parish, Belmont.
Survivors include a son, James C. Greenwood of Warner; a daughter, Patricia Ann Williams of Belmont; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marie Towers of Concord, and Hazel Wilson of Laconia; and several nephews and nieces. Two nieces, Linda Pestilli of Brownfield, Maine, and Gloria Cleckler of Bossier City, La., and a nephew, Normand Gendron of Massachusetts lived with Mr. and Mrs. Greenwood for a number of years.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Angie Currier and a grandson, James E Lucas Jr.
Family calling hours will be held.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at 12 noon at St. Joseph Parish, 96 Main St., Belmont. Private burial will be held in the family lot in South Road Cemetery, Belmont at a later date.
