Norman F. Daigneault
LACONIA - Norman F. Daigneault, 59, of 78 Dudley Circle, Laconia, died at
the Lakes Region General Hospital, Friday, Dec. 6, 2002.
Mr. Daigneault was born May 20, 1943 in Laconia, the son of Francis and Evelyn (Russilillo) Daigneault. He graduated from Laconia High School in 1961.
Mr. Daigneault had lived most of his life in Laconia. After retiring from New England Telephone Company in 1996, where he had been employed for 28 years, he moved to St. Petersburg, Fla. He moved back to Laconia in August of 2002.
Mr. Daigneault was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
He was a former Vice President of the Laconia Little League and was involved with the Laconia Pop Warner program. He was an avid skier and golfer. He was a former member of the Pheasant Ridge Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" (Thompson) Daigneault of Laconia; his mother, Evelyn Daigneault of Laconia; a daughter, Debbie L. Grant of Laconia; a son, Scott F. Daigneault of Gilford; four stepsons, Jerry Drouin, Steven Drouin, Pete Drouin and Jeffrey Drouin, all of Laconia; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father Francis Daigneault.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 from 7-9 p.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance of the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, Laconia, Wednesday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Gary Kosmowski, pastor of the church will officiate. Spring burial will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Viola M. Mitchell
GILFORD - Viola M. Mitchell, 91, of 737 Gilford Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 in her residence following an extended illness.
She was born Swanton, Vt., on Oct. 29, 1911, the daughter of Carl J. and Julia (Hemenway) Horner.
She moved to the area from Lincoln in 1946 and has made her home with her daughter, Mary and her husband Herbert for the past 27 years.
Employed as a waitress for many years, she was affectionately known as "Ma" to her customers at Earl’s Diner, the Courthouse Diner and Dearborn’s Diner.
She was the widow of Ernest F. Mitchell Sr., who died on Oct. 12, 1962. In addition, she was predeceased by a daughter, Eva M. Goupil on April 3, 1998 and also by two sisters and four brothers.
Family members include five daughters, Mary Heath of Gilford, Rose Mitchell of Dorchester, Anna Belanger of Stonington, Conn., Sandra Tibbetts of Meredith and Donna Swain of Laconia; 24 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. A funeral ceremony will be held in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Spring burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice, 780 N. Main St., Laconia NH 03246. Timothy C. Molan and David L. Furber are the funeral directors.
Marjorie I. Lyons
FRANKLIN - Marjorie I. (Lewis) Lyons, 89, formerly of Lancaster Street in Franklin, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 at the Mountain Ridge Genesis Elder Care in Franklin following a period of failing health.
She was born in St. Albans, Vt., June 18, 1913, daughter of Wesley and Cleo (Hayes) Lewis. She graduated from the Montpelier High School. She lived in the Tilton-Franklin areas for many years.
Mrs. Lyons was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Wesley Lewis in 1963, Charles Lewis in 1999 and a sister Dorothy Buckman who died in 1996. Her husband, Robert S. Lyons died in 1983.
Her family includes two daughters, Roberta J. Bacon of Northfield and Lorraine C. Grace of Rochester; a son, Frederick A. Lyons of Cocoa, Fla.; a brother, Kenneth Lewis of Concord; two sisters, Alice Start of Hadley, Mass. and Irene Start of Florence, Mass.; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours planned. Graveside services with burial will be in the spring at the Middlesex Center Cemetery in Middlesex, Vt. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, New Hampshire Chapter, 10 Ferry St., Suite 419, Concord, NH 03301.

Robert J. Kretovich
FRANKLIN - Robert J. "Boats" Kretovich, 76, of 35 River St., Franklin, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Oct. 7, 1926 and lived in the Pittsburgh area most of his life before moving to New Hampshire in 1987.
Mr. Kretovich served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the VFW.
He was retired from U.S. Steel Corporation after 45 years as a maintenance painter.
Mr. Kretovich was predeceased by his wife, Irma (Gross) Kretovich on Feb. 25, 1992.
He is survived by a son, Richard R. Kretovich of Northfield.
Friends may call from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002 at the H.L. Young & Company Memorial Home, 175 South Main St., Franklin with a prayer service at 2 p.m.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Pa.

Leonard M. Smart
MOULTONBORO - Leonard M. Smart, 70, of Lighthouse Lane, died April 6, 2003 at Lakes Region General Hospital, in Laconia, after an illness.
Born in Laconia on August 18, 1932, he was the son of Dr. Chester and Eula (Douglas) Smart.
He graduated from Hebron Academy in Maine and attended the University of New Hampshire.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean conflict.
He and his wife owned and operated the Shelter Cove Cottages on Lake Winnipesaukee for several years. He was a builder, a police officer, and served as police chief for the town of Moultonboro. He has spent the past 24 years enjoying real estate sales and development.
He was very active in the community serving as Town Auditor, Selectman, Library Trustee, Trustee of the Trust Funds, Treasurer of the Moultonboro School District, and a member of the Planning Board. He also participated in the Moultonboro Master Plan Committee, the Municipal Building Committee, and the Zoning Ordinance Review Committee
He volunteered his time as a 4-H leader, Red Hill Outing Club officer, member of the Moultonboro Fire Department, co-chairman of the Moultonboro Republican party, and was active in the Center Harbor Chamber of Commerce.
He enjoyed his family and was an avid outdoorsman enjoying the lake, the ocean and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Paula (White) Smart of Moultonboro; four daughters and husbands, Suzanne S. and Richard Gunter of Berkley, Mass., Cynthia S. and Gary Mayo of Lebanon, Christine “Deedee” and Thomas Howard of Moultonboro, and Stephanie S. and Brian Morse of Nashua; ten grandchildren, Steven and Samuel Gunter, Robert and Christine Mayo, Kurt Casey, Kevin, Alex, Spencer, Anthony and Mackenzie Morse; one brother, Wayne D. Smart of Sanbornton; one sister, Rita S. Mayo of Laconia; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, Routes 3 and 104, Meredith, on Tuesday 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Moultonboro United Methodist Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be held in the Union Cemetery, Laconia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moultonboro Public Library, Moultonboro, NH 03254.
Alice A. Levasseur
LACONIA - Alice A. Levasseur, 87, of 9 Isabelle St., died April 6, 2003, in Lakes Region General Hospital.
She was born in Franklin on June 10, 1915, the daughter of Alpide and Amanda (Lemire) Dumoulin and had lived in Laconia most of her life.
Mrs. Levasseur owned and operated Henry’s Dry Cleaners with her husband for many years. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart parish and was a member of the Sodality of St. Anne of the parish.
She was known as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Her husband, Elie W. Levasseur died April 11, 1986. In addition she was predeceased by her son, Joseph E. Levasseur in September 2002 and three sisters, Julia Dumoulin, Adelina Carignan and Cedelie Levasseur.
Family members include two grandsons, Christian Levasseur and Stephen Levasseur, both of Laconia; many nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., on Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. A funeral ceremony will be held in the Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery later this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688 or American Diabetes Association, NH Affiliate, 249 Canal St., Manchester NH 03101. Christine I. Monts
FRANKLIN - Christine I. (Huey) Monts, 74, of 38 Peabody Place in Franklin, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Franklin Regional Hospital, Franklin, following a short illness.
She was born in Lyons, Ind., Nov. 12, 1928, daughter of Benjamin and Abbie (Hollingsworth) Huey. She spent her youth in Lyons and Washington, Ind., attending schools there, and later spent many years in Washington, D.C. She had resided in Franklin for over 25 years.
She worked as a secretary for many years and was employed for over 10 years at the New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord where she served as secretary to the president before her retirement. She and her husband owned and operated an antique shop at their home in Franklin.
She was an active member of the Church of Christ in Tilton.
Her family includes her husband of 55 years, Robert L. Monts of Franklin; her son, Jeffery S. Monts of Seattle, Wash.; her daughter, Mary E. Bullock of Memphis, Tenn.; six grandchildren; two brothers and six sisters, all of Indiana, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours and services will be held at the Gill Funeral Home in Washington, Ind., later this week. Burial will be in the Antioch Cemetery in Washington.
