Ronald Lotti
BARRINGTON - Ronald S. "Ron" Lotti, 43, of Barrington, formerly of Somerville, Mass., died in an automobile accident on Jan. 25, 2004, on Route 4 in Chichester.
He was born in Cambridge, Mass., on Feb. 9, 1960, the son of Peter and Vera (Bertolaccini) Lotti of Somerville. He had lived in Barrington for 10 years after moving here from Somerville. He attended Somerville public schools.
Mr. Lotti had worked as a welder for BME Engineering. Ron was a constant source of love, support and nurturing to his wife, his children, parents, siblings and friends. His determination, vitality, and generosity of heart and spirit provided inspiration and encouragement during even the most difficult times. For this - and more - he will always be remembered.
Besides his parents, survivors include: his wife, Elizabeth (Morris) Lotti; his son, Ronald Lotti of Hudson; two daughters, Jennifer Lotti of Spencer and Alirose Lotti of Barrington; two sisters, Julie Fitzgerald and her husband, Edward, of Burlington, Mass., and Paula Hazelton of Somerville; three brothers, Paul Lotti of Somerville, Samuel Lotti and his wife, Cindy, of Westford, Mass., and Joseph Lotti and his wife, Janine, of Somerville; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 at 8:45 a.m. at the Cota-Struzziero-McKenna Funeral Home, 197 Washington St., Somerville, Mass. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Catherine of Genoa Church, 179 Summer St., Somerville at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, Mass. Georgette Martel
ROCHESTER - Georgette T. Martel, 76, of 11 Country Lane, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Hospice House in Concord following a period of declining health.
She was born in Lewiston, Maine, on Dec. 15, 1927, the daughter of Oscar and Jeannette (Martineau) Trempe, and was a resident of the Rochester area for the past 50 years.
Mrs. Martel was an active communicant of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Rochester, and a member of Ste. Anne Sodality. She had volunteered many hours cleaning at the church, and had adopted St. Luke’s room. She had enjoyed traveling to Canada with church members.
Mrs. Martel had worked for Mayberry Shoe in Rochester prior to her retirement. She enjoyed yard sales and traveling with her friends and knitting. She was also very active as a volunteer with the Share Fund, and a member of the Happy Walkers Club.
Family members include her beloved husband of over 56 years, Herve A. "Blackie" Martel of Rochester; a daughter, Diane Greenhalgh and her husband, Jeffrey, of Hebron; a son, Ronald Martel of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a grandson, Ryan J. Greenhalgh of Portsmouth; two brothers and their wives, Ralph and Ann Trempe of Scarborough, Maine, and Lucien and Priscille Trempe of Saco, Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation at H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester, will be Monday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. Burial will be later this spring at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Rochester. Ruth Sargent
GREENLAND - Ruth Alberta (Hussey) Sargent, widow of John M. Sargent Sr., formerly of Greenland, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.
She was born on Aug. 23, 1914, in Cambridge, Mass., the daughter of Charles W. and Mildred M. (Smith) Hussey. Mrs. Sargent was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1932. She attended the University of New Hampshire and Keene Normal School.
A teacher, Ruth began her vocation by teaching in a one-room school at the top of Beauty Hill Road in Barnstead. In that one room, she happily taught all eight grades.
In 1938, she married John M. Sargent of Lynn, Mass., and Barnstead. The couple settled in Lynn. In 1945 they moved to Barnstead and in 1951 they moved to Greenland. After the death of John, she continued to raise her five children, returned to teaching, first in Stratham and then in Kensington at the elementary schools. A dedicated, old-fashioned teacher, she retired at the age of 70 with a contract for the coming year in her hand.
Mrs. Sargent was the longest-living member of the Greenland Community Congregational Church, UCC, and a charter member of the Carrie Beck Guild.
Survivors include her children, Betsy Sargent and her husband, Paul D., of South Paris, Maine, John M. Sargent Jr., and his wife, Paula B., of Greenland, Kathy E. Monaghan and her husband, Tommy R., of Exeter, and James M. Sargent and his wife, Ellie, of Exeter; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Esther Prescott and her husband, Richard, of Kensington, Katherine Hyatt of Williamsburg, Va., Roberta Lewis of South Paris, Maine; a sister-in-law, Anne B. Hussey of Greenland; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Peter G. Sargent, of Greenland; and two brothers, Robert M. Hussey of Greenland and Charles W. Hussey Jr. of Portsmouth.
Funeral services will be held at the Greenland Community Congregational Church, Greenland, N.H., on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. The family requests that flowers please be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the Kensington School Library in Kensington, N.H., or the Weeks Public Library in Greenland, N.H.
James Young
Former Rochester dentist
INTERVALE - James B. Young, 81, of Spruce Avenue died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at Pleasant View Center in Concord.
He was born in Rumford, Maine, the son of the late Alfred and Joy (Braynion) Young. He graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford as class valedictorian and later attended Brown University.
When World War II broke out, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was commissioned a first lieutenant and became a pilot. He flew for the 12th Army Air Corps in Sicily and North Africa and for the 19th Army Air Corps in England, France and Germany.
After the war, he attended the University of Maine and studied pre-med. He went on to graduate from Tufts Dental School and had his dental practice in Rochester for 46 years and a second office in North Conway for six years.
In his life, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed skiing, mountain climbing, fishing and gardening.
Mr. Young is survived by one son, James Young of Loudon; two daughters, Laura Young of Sarasota, Fla., and Jennifer Blake of Bradenton, Fla.; two grandchildren, Tyler Young and Hannah Young, both of Loudon.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 South Main St., Concord, N.H. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. William Keeffe will officiate. Military honors will be presented by the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division of Fort Drum, N.Y. Ann M. Stone
WORCESTER, Mass. - Ann M. (Wynne) Stone, 71, of Beaconsfield Road, died Friday, April 2, 2004 in Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Hammond House in Worcester.
Her husband of 36 years, George L. Stone, died in 1989. She leaves a son, James M. Stone of Meredith; a daughter, Pamela J. Stone of Worcester; two brothers of England; and two sisters of Ireland.
Ann was born in Ireland, the daughter of James and Molly Wynne.
She worked as a nurses’ aide at the Holden Nursing Home in Worcester for 20 years before retiring in 1977. She was a member of the Christ King Church in Worcester.
Ann’s funeral will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April, 5, 2004, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, Mass. Calling hours will be held from 12 noon to 1 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2004, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Moorehead Cemetery, Paxton, Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
Aspasia (Paras) Ellis
PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Aspasia (Paras) Ellis, widow of Menu Ellis, of 346 Pleasant St., died Friday, April 2, 2004, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.
She was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of George N. and Georgia (Tsole) Paras. Aspasia was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1937. She was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth, the Daughters of Penelope, Aglia Chapter 144, the Philoptochos Society and a former member of the Portsmouth Women’s City Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Georgann E. Rollins of Augusta, Maine; a granddaughter, Katherine Rollins of Augusta; a sister, Amelia Brown of Rye; a brother, Nicholas Paras of Hampton; and several nieces and one nephew.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Sophia Georgiou and Victoria Barlows.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Jacquelyn Moulton
PORTSMOUTH - Jacquelyn "Jackie" Moulton, 55, of 130 Edmond Ave. passed away on Friday, April 2, 2004, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in York, Maine, on Feb. 4, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Carlton) Toussaint, who died in 1990 and Leo F. Toussaint, who died on March 31, 2004. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1968.
Jackie was employed for many years as a hairdresser and then worked as a monitor at the New Franklin School for 11 years.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose, St. Catherine of Siena Church and the Women’s Club of the church. Jackie was always willing to volunteer, whether at church or at a school function. She enjoyed traveling with her family in their motor home and Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., was always a favorite destination.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Moulton; her son, Wayne Moulton Jr. of Portsmouth; two uncles, Reginald Toussaint of Portsmouth and Richard Toussaint of North Berwick, Maine; and several cousins.
A graveside service for Jackie and her father Leo, will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Thursday, April 15, 2004, at 11 a.m. Visiting hours at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth on Wednesday, April 14, 2004, from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the New Heights Program, 100 Campus Drive, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
Leo F. Toussaint
PORTSMOUTH - Leo F. Toussaint, 77, of 130 Edmond Ave., passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in St. Johnsbury, Vt. on Jan. 23, 1927, he was the son of William and Emma (Crapeau) Toussaint and was a resident of Portsmouth for most of his life. He was the husband of the late Helen (Carlton) Toussaint.
Leo was a veteran of World War II and was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a rigger in Shop #72, retiring after 39 years of service.
He was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, the Portsmouth Moose Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. In his retirement, he enjoyed spending time at his camp and traveling with his family in their motor home.
Survivors include his son-in-law, Wayne Moulton; a grandson, Wayne Moulton Jr. of Portsmouth; two brothers, Reginald Toussaint of Portsmouth and Richard Toussaint of North Berwick, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Toussaint’s daughter, Jacquelyn "Jackie" Moulton, died on April 2, 2004. He was predeceased by a brother, Herbert Toussaint; and two sisters, Patricia Bennett and Gloria Desjardins.
A graveside service for Leo and his daughter, Jackie, will be held at Calvary Cemetery on Thursday, April 15, 2004, at 11 a.m.. Raymond L. Snell
PORTLAND, Maine - Raymond L. Snell, 83, of 182 Capisic St. left this world early Saturday morning, April 3, 2004, to join his loving wife, Josephine.
Born March 4, 1921, in Haverhill, N.H., he was the son of O. Fritz and Aino Snell, of Lisbon, N.H., who came to this country from Finland. Ray had been a welder by trade since 1940, starting his career in the Todd-Bath Shipyard as a welder building Liberty ships. It was also where he met Josephine.
He continued his career working for Jarka Corp. and various ship repair companies along the Portland waterfront throughout the 1960s. Ray started Snell Welding in the 1970s, working various projects and contracts for the City of Portland and remained the owner/operator of the company until his death, gaining the reputation as "the Oldest Welder."
Many of Portland’s landmarks stand as the result of his craftsmanship in the welding trade.
Ray was an avid stock car racing fan. He worked on many stock cars and had been the builder/owner along with Galen Wilson of car #99 at Beech Ridge Speedway, driven by Phil Libby.
He is survived by his children, George Snell and wife, Jeanne of Dover, N.H., Jean McDonald and husband, Robert, of Gorham, Maine, Mary Snell and partner, Irwin, also of Gorham, and Lorraine Plank and husband, Gene of Larsen, Wisc.
He will be fondly remembered by his three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Josephine; and a stepson, Leo O’Connor.
