Irene L. Ouellette
LACONIA - Irene L. Ouellette, RN, 86, of 181 Pine St. died Nov. 27, 2003 at the Hospice House in Concord. She was the widow of Gedeon R. Ouellette who died in 1982.
She was born in Belmont on June 25, 1917, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Fortier) Sturgeon and had resided in Laconia for most of her life. She was a graduate of the Laconia Hospital School of Nursing in 1939 and worked as a Registered Nurse in Obstetrics at Lakes Region General Hospital until her retirement in 1979.
Mrs. Ouellette was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Ladies of Sacred Heart, the World Apostate of Fatima, and a member and Past President of the Canado American Association. She served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for three years.
She was a past member of the Laconia Hospital Graduate Nurses Association and was a volunteer at many blood banks. She loved to travel, and was active in arts and crafts and the ABC Quilts and the Elder Friendship Club.
She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Linda Martel in 1996 and a grandson Jeffrey Martel in 1990.
Family members include a daughter, Mary E. MacLeod of Manchester; three sons, John R. Ouellette of Laconia, Peter D. Ouellette of Tilton and Thomas Ouellette of Milford; five grandchildren, Glen Martel, Andrea Martel, Karen MacLeod, Tina Ouellette and Mark Ouellette, three great grandchildren, Jared Martel, Heather Martel and Corey Ouellette; a sister, Marie Snow of Apopka Fla.; two brothers, Joseph Sturgeon of San Antonio Texas and William Sturgeon of Laconia; her godchild, Nancy Morgan of Australia; nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St. on Monday from Noon to 1 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave. on Monday at 1 p.m. Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the CRVNA Hospice House, 250 Pleasant St., Concord NH 03301.
Geraldine R. Wilkinson
PLYMOUTH - Geraldine Ruth Wilkinson, 76, of Pleasant Street, died Nov. 28 at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth.
Born in Groveton on July 16, 1927, she was the daughter of Herbert and Ruth (Stevens) Marshall.
She grew up in Groveton and graduated from Groveton High School. She resided in Littleton and had been a resident of Plymouth for many years.
She was a communicant of Saint Matthews Roman Catholic Church and the former Saint Matthews Women’s Club. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters in Littleton.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, William I. Wilkinson of Plymouth; five children, Joyce McInnis of Nashua, Rev. Richard Wilkinson of Austin, Texas, Ronald Wilkinson of Adamstown, Md., Randy Wilkinson of Concord and Janice Walker of Myersville, Md.; 11 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Sawyer of Groveton, Caroline Pinette of Groveton and Patricia Lang of Groveton; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth, on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Saint Matthews Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Mrs. Wilkinson’s son, the Rev. Richard Wilkinson will be the celebrant. Burial will be held in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford. Adrienne Bauer
PORTSMOUTH - Adrienne Helen Bauer, 75, a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, passed away on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004.
Born on Aug. 3, 1928, she was the daughter of George Frederick and Helen Agnes (Murphy) Shannon. She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church.
A spirited, gracious and loving woman, Adrienne devoted her life’s work to raising nine children, never missing a school play, athletic event, band concert or banquet in which her children were involved.
Adrienne enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling. In recent years she had fulfilled a lifelong wish to travel to Ireland with her family. She particularly loved spending time by the ocean. When her children were younger she would often spend entire summer days at Jenness Beach, arriving early and not leaving until the sun was low in the sky.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother and doting grandmother.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Frederick J. Bauer; four sons, Gary A. Bauer and his wife, Martha, of Hope, Idaho, Michael F. Bauer of Hilton Head, S.C., Anthony J. Bauer of Stratham, and Gregory Bauer and his wife, Nicole, of North Hampton; four daughters, Gail A. Williams and her husband, Greg, of Roslyn, Calif., Michele M. Zaremba and her husband, Jack, of Acton, Mass., Nancy E. Bauer of Newton, Mass., and Elaine S. Bauer of Kittery Point, Maine; a son-in-law, David C. Luceri of Bridgewaters, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Olive Tiefert and her husband, Bob, of Kittery, and Rosemary Connelly of Stratham; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Dr. Suzann E. Bauer-Luceri, and a sister, Kathleen Dibbert.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Visiting hours at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association of N.H. Elizabeth Biron
AMESBURY, Mass. - Elizabeth Ann Biron, known as "Bettiann" to family and friends, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, after a long illness.
Bettiann was born on March 21, 1933, in Ottawa, Canada. She was the beloved daughter of Hockey Hall of Fame goalie Alec Connell and his wife, Katherine Muir Connell. She was predeceased by her sister, Katherine, and her parents.
She was the widow of Dr. Pierre "Pete" E. Biron, who died in 1981. Pete and Bettiann were married June 7, 1958, in Ottawa. After Pete joined the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, there were multiple military moves throughout the East Coast. Pete and Bettiann settled in Beverly, Mass., in 1968.
Bettiann was a longtime communicant at St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly. She was active in the Ladies Sodality and was a frequent volunteer at her children’s school. Bettiann was very proud of Canada and retained her Canadian citizenship.
She loved reminiscing about her childhood summers spent with her aunts, uncles and numerous cousins. Bettiann enjoyed tennis, boating, the beach and family ski trips. She loved her canine companions Sandy, Snoopy and Kayden, the Seaview Retreat therapy dog.
Bettiann is survived by her children, Paige Biron of Everett, Wash., Julie Biron of Newington, N.H., and Jocelyn Biron Knightly and her husband, Russell, of Durham, N.H.; five grandchildren, Kristin D’addario of North Hampton, N.H., Heather Hoagland-Biron of Whidbey Island, Wash., Alanna and Michael Timothy Holtel of Newington, N.H., and Nicholas Kase Knightly of Durham, N.H.; and by her dear childhood friend, Sylvia Manion, of Ottawa and Florida.
Her family would like to thank her numerous compassionate caregivers over the years, especially the staff at Harborside Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Amesbury, Haverhill Manor in Haverhill, Mass., and Seaview Retreat in Rowley, Mass. Thank you for giving Bettiann a safe and loving home.
Funeral services will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at 11 a.m. Friends invited. Ruth Brooks
HAMPTON - Ruth G. Brooks, 77, of 12 Tobey St., died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.
She was born in Framingham, Mass., on Oct. 23, 1926, the daughter of the late Herman and Edith V. (Thompson) Winch.
She lived in Hampton since 1953 after moving here from Framingham. She worked for the former Berry Transportation Co. of North Hampton as a school bus driver for 30 years.
She was a lifelong member and past president of the Hampton Lions Club and served on the building committee for Camp Pride, a camp for special needs children in Middleton, which was developed and supported by Lions District 44H.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and a longtime volunteer at the Haven Health Center at Seacoast in Hampton. She shared 49 years of marriage with her husband, Donald A. Brooks, of Hampton.
In addition to her husband, family members include two sons, Keith A. Brooks and Gary M. Brooks, both of Hampton; two daughters, Dawn J.A. Park of Union and Paulette E. Bailey of Hampton; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Carl Winch of Oklahoma, Robert Winch of Georgia, Wallace Winch of North Hampton and Donald Winch of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Brooks was predeceased by three brothers, Ralph Winch, Herman Winch and Al Winch.
Relatives and friends may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., with a Lions Club service at 7:30 p.m. A private family service will be held at a later date. Earl Brown
WEST BARNSTABLE, Mass. - Earl T. Brown, 89, husband of Dorothy (Simpson) Brown for more than 62 years, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at Cape Regency.
He was born in Nova Scotia, but came to the United States as a baby. He was educated in Millbury public schools and graduated from the New England School of Accounting in Worcester.
He worked for the American Optical Co. of Southbridge, which was later acquired by Warner Lambert and Pfizer. He held a series of financial positions including that of corporate controller and later as financial vice president.
While living in Southbridge, he helped build the Girl Scout camp and was a member of the Rotary Club. All his life, his main interests were gardening and woodworking. He belonged to the "Woodcrafters" of West Parish Church. He was a very active member of West Parish and once held the job of treasurer. He was also once a member of material resources at the church.
Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters, Judith Ward of Durham, N.H., and Nancy, wife of Joseph Ward, of Marshfield; four granddaughters, Anne, wife of Maj. Kevin Masterson of England, Kerre, wife of William McDonough of Marshfield, Suzanne, wife of Jarod Shutz of Arizona, and Kate Ward of Braintree; a grandson, Jeremy Ward of Chestnut Hill; two great-grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Masterson of England; a sister, Juanita Bullard of Millbury; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at West Parish Church of Barnstable, Meetinghouse Way, West Barnstable, Mass., on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at 12 noon. Anyone wishing to make a memorial gift may make it to West Parish of Barnstable Capital Campaign Fund.
Alice Flynn
EAST KINGSTON - Alice M. Flynn, 61, of 22 South Road, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.
She was born Dec. 20, 1942 in Whiteplains, N.Y., the daughter of the late William J. and Alice (Fortin) VonMalder. She was raised in Whiteplains and lived for many years in East Kingston. She also worked at the Alrose Shoe Co. in Exeter.
Family members include two sons, William J. Gray of Hillsboro and Edward Flynn III of Seabrook; one daughter, Bonnie L. Walton and her husband, Brian, of East Kingston; eight grandchildren, Patrick K. Conway of Rochester, Brian D. Walton Jr. of East Kingston, Michael A. Libby of Dover, Kayla Brackett of Rochester, Edward H. Flynn IV of Newmarket, Edward E. Davis, Robert W. Davis and Jennifer L. Davis, all of Deerfield.
Mrs. Flynn was predeceased by her daughter, Brenda L. Libby, and her sister, Ethel M. Weeman this past December.
Services will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The family requests that there be no visiting hours. Burial will be private.
Marie Gabriel
DOVER - Marie A. (Bistany) Gabriel, 86, of Dover, formerly of Lawrence, Mass., died Saturday morning, Jan. 31, 2004, at her home.
She was born in Lawrence and was a graduate of Lawrence High School, Class of 1935. She lived in Lawrence for the greater part of her life.
Mrs. Gabriel was an active member of St. Anthony’s Church in Lawrence. She was an organist and choir director for the church for 15 years. She also was a Sunday school teacher at the church and enjoyed working with the children.
When she moved to Dover, she became an active member of St. George’s Church and was a member of Court Sacred Heart of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Mrs. Gabriel was predeceased by her husband, William Gabriel, with whom she shared 42 years of marriage.
She is survived by one son, Daniel Gabriel and his wife, Margaret, of Dover; two daughters, Julia Engelman and her husband, Bruce, of Uncasville, Conn., and Patricia Kemen and her husband, John, of Dover; two brothers, Norman Bistany of Salem and Robert Bistany of Lawrence; one daughter-in-law, Roberta Gabriel of Pelham; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Michael Gabriel; and a sister, Sarraya Bistany.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Cataudella Funeral Home, 126 Pleasant Valley St., in Methuen, Mass. Funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church in Lawrence, Mass. Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Methuen. Bernice King
PARSONSFIELD, Maine - Bernice (Tibbetts) King, 65, of Tall Pine Lane, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 29, 2004, at her daughter’s home in Middleton, N.H.
She was born on Sept. 27, 1938, in Wolfeboro, N.H., the daughter of the late Melvin and Hazel (Brown) Tibbetts. She had lived in Middleton for most of her life before moving to Parsonsfield.
She had worked for Colby Footwear Co. in Gonic, N.H., for 25 years. She also became a licensed nurses aide and worked for Sunbridge of Wolfeboro for five years. She had attended Calvary Bible Church in Kezar Falls, Maine.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Oliver M. King, of Parsonsfield; two daughters, Linda Hanchett of Middleton, N.H., and Janet Stewart of Wells, Maine; four grandchildren, Christopher Hanchett, Nicholas Hanchett, Cory Mattocks and Joshua St. Hilaire; five great-grandchildren, Robert Hanchett, Meghan Hanchett, Devyn Hanchett, Matthew Hanchett and Ethan Hanchett; a stepdaughter, Joan Dagnino of Las Vegas, Nev.; a stepson, Maurice King of Waterville, Maine; two sisters, Pauline Colbath and Jane Boisvert, both of Farmington, N.H.; and a brother, George Elliott of Wolfeboro.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, Route 28, Wolfeboro, N.H. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at 1 p.m. at the All Saints Episcopal Church, South Main Street, Wolfeboro, N.H. The Rev. Randolph Dales will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Kezar Falls, Maine, in the spring.
