Charles A. Blackburn
ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Charles A. Blackburn, 77, of West Street, Attleboro, died Thursday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.
He was the husband of Dorothy J. (Dennett) Blackburn, to whom he was married for 55 years.
He was a lifelong resident of Attleboro and was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Mr. Blackburn had served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a supervisor in the shipping department of the former Apco-Mossburg Co. of Attleboro for 30 years and had also worked at the Worcester Press Steel Co. in Worcester and the Antaya Bros. Co. of Attleboro. He had also worked as a sales clerk with his brother at the Blackburn Spa of Attleboro.
For the past six months until the time of his death, he was employed in hardware sales with the Wal-Mart Store in North Attleboro.
He was a member and former treasurer of the Attleboro Elks Lodge #1014 and had been named as the Elk of the Year.
He was an avid golfer and had played in many local leagues.
He had coached the Senators Little League baseball team in Attleboro for many years.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Glenn C. Blackburn of Attleboro and Randy C. Blackburn of Seekonk, Mass.; one daughter, Karen J. Anderson of Laconia, N.H.; two brothers, Richard D. Blackburn of Framingham, Mass., and Harold Blackburn of Attleboro.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Russell, Robert E. and William Blackburn.
His funeral and burial will be private. Arrangements have been made by the Cook-Hathaway Funeral Home, 160 Park St., Attleboro, MA.
Anna Barbara Ouellette
FRANKLIN - Anna Barbara (Barcak) Ouellette, 89, a longtime Franklin resident, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at the Mountain Ridge-Genesis Elder Care facility in Franklin, following a period of failing health. She was born in Shady Side, N.J., on Nov. 5, 1914, daughter of Woytech and Justina (Bores) Barcak. She moved to Franklin as a child and attended schools there.
Prior to moving to Mountain Ridge, she resided at 314 West Main St. in Tilton for 10 years.
She was employed as a stitcher at the former Sulloway Hosiery Mill in Franklin for several years, later becoming a homemaker.
Ouellette was a former member of the Polish American Club in Franklin, the 55 Club in Tilton and was a longtime communicant of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin.
For many years, she was a foster grandparent at the Bessie Rowell School in Franklin.
While living in Tilton, she attended St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, John M. Ouellette Sr., who died in 1980.
Her family includes a son, John M. Ouellette Jr. of Hooksett; two daughters, Joan Stevens of Northfield and Patricia Letho of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
According to her wishes, there are no public calling hours planned.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin, with the Rev. William E. Babineau, pastor, as celebrant.
A spring burial will occur in Holy Cross Cemetery in Franklin.
The William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton is in charge of the arrangements.

James A. Berry
NORTH HAMPTON - James A. Berry, a retired U.S. Army major, 63, of North Hampton, passed away on Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Jim led an adventurous life filled with laughter, a love of learning, a quirky sense of humor, and many accomplishments and passions. A highly decorated combat soldier, he retired from a distinguished 22-year military career, which included being a member of the Honor Guard and three tours in Vietnam.
Following the military, Jim was an engineer with Raytheon Corp., working on important projects such as the Patriot Missile Program. But perhaps his most important work pleasure came later when he fulfilled his passion as a member of the team at the Sagamore Hampton Golf Club. In addition, Jim was an active participant in the community, including teaching physics at a local college and working with the Hampton Youth Association.
We will always remember this "cowboy at heart" for his love of life and the joy and laughter he brought to all who knew him. He was a wonderful husband, super dad, loving grandpa, devoted friend and true patriot.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Cristin and Sean; son-in-law, Corey; grandsons, Jacob, Ryan and Joseph; and countless other family members and friends.
In keeping with Jim’s spirit, a celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. This will be followed by a reception at the Sagamore Hampton Golf Club, 22 North Road, North Hampton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to A Safe Place, a charity committed to the prevention and elimination of domestic violence, located at 6 Greenleaf Woods, Suite 101, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
Dorothy Christiansen
DOVER - Dorothy Louise Christiansen, 83, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Langdon Place of Dover. Arrangements are incomplete at this time, and are under the direction of Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, Dover.
Robert A. Downs
NEWINGTON - Robert A. Downs, 81, widower of Teresa M. "Terry" (Knights) Downs, of 101 Patterson Lane, died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born in Newburyport, Mass., on April 20, 1922, the son of Frank O. and Melissa (Gooch) Downs. Mr. Downs was a graduate of Newburyport High School, Class of 1940. He has resided in Newington since 1970 and previously in Hampton for 22 years.
During World War II, Mr. Downs served in both the Army Air Corps and the Army. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Downs was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a production planner.
He was a life member of DAV, Piscataqua Chapter 4 in Newington.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Phyllis Knights of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Frederick Knights and his wife, Madeline, of Barnet, Vt.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Wednesday at 11 a.m. with an hour of visitation from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Friends invited. Burial will follow in the family lot in Newington Cemetery.
Adele J. Frisbee
KITTERY, Maine - Adele J. Frisbee, 76, of Kittery died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, in Laconia, N.H., at the home of her daughter after a long illness.
She was born in Italy, the daughter of John and Teresa (Nardi) Frensilli, and later became a U.S. citizen.
Adele was well known for her many years of dedicated service as manager of the coffee shop at the old Portsmouth Hospital. She continued working in the food service business at Portsmouth Regional Hospital where she made many new friends and associates until she retired in 1995.
She is survived by three children: Helaine Buskin and her husband, Richard, of Brownfield, Maine, John Frisbee of Kittery Point, Maine, and Carla Morin of Laconia; grandchildren Todd Fenoff of Monroe, N.H., Rachel and Robert Morin of Laconia and Jennie Buskin of Brownfield; her brothers, Dr. Frederick Frensilli and Dr. John Frensilli; and a sister, Natelie Wilson, all of Maryland; and a sister-in-law, Vivian Frensilli of Louisiana.
Adele will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Adele was a very active member of the Church at Spruce Creek where she had worshipped for the past several years.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at the Church at Spruce Creek, Wilson Road, Kittery at 11 a.m. followed by committal at Orchard Grove Cemetery in Kittery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Operation Blessing Inc., 600 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, NH 03801 or the Church at Spruce Creek, P.O. Donald E. Philbrick
PORTSMOUTH - Donald E. Philbrick, 77, of Hillcrest Estates, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at the Regional Medical Center in Hudson, Fla.
He was born in Lewiston, Maine, on July 29, 1926, the son of the late Glenwood and Evelyn (McIntire) Philbrick.
Mr. Philbrick was raised in Houlton, Maine, attended local schools and graduated from high school there. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Navy.
Mr. Philbrick relocated to Connecticut, Florida, and moved to Hampton in 1964. He resided in Portsmouth for the past 20 years and had worked as a sales representative for the former Brady Ford in Portsmouth for many years.
He shared 53 years of marriage with his wife, the late Jean E. Philbrick, who died in 1999.
Family members include two sons, Terrence Philbrick of Hampton and Jeffrey Philbrick of Eliot, Maine; four daughters, Virginia Carpenter and Pamela Pappalardo, both of York, Maine, Donna Minutelli of Newmarket and Barbara Murphy of Eliot; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald Philbrick of Westbrook, Maine.
He was predeceased by a son, Steven Philbrick who died in 1969.
Services will be held at the First Congregational Church, Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton. George R. Shevelin
PORTSMOUTH - George R. Shevelin, 88, of 36 Spring St., Portsmouth, died on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation in Maine. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St. in Portsmouth. Florence I. Gregoire
LACONIA - Mrs. Florence I. Gregoire, 96, of 406 Court St. died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at the St. Francis Home.
Mrs. Gregoire was born May 30, 1907, in Barnet, Vt., daughter of Joseph and Mabel (Auriel) Fenoff. She had been a resident of the Lakes Region for over 60 years.
Mrs. Gregoire had been employed at Laconia Malleable Iron Co. in Laconia for over 35 years, retiring in 1972.
Survivors include a son, William J. Jacques of Belmont; a daughter, Marilyn Tardiff of Belmont; six grandchildren, Rick Perkins, Cheri Walsh, Richard Muthersbaugh, Courtney Jacques, Dale Bush and Roy Hathorn; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a grandson, William Hathorn; five brothers; and a sister.
The calling hour will be held on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, N.H., using the Carriage House entrance. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Parish, Belmont, following the calling hour at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
