Viva Stevenson
BARNSTEAD - Viva Faith (Hurlburt) Stevenson, 99, of Bow Lake Road, Center Barnstead, died June 19, 2004 at her home.
Born Jan. 21, 1905 in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Abijah and Faustina (Roberts) Hurlburt she had lived in Center Barnstead for the past 10 years. She had previously lived in Alton for many years.
Viva loved her family, travel , adventure and gardening.
She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon L. Stevenson, in 1999, a son James Vaughn and a daughter Dorothy Limont.
Survivors include 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Calling Hours will be Wednesday, June 23, 2-4 p.m. at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro.
Funeral service will be Wednesday, June 23, at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Graveside services will be Thursday, June 24, 10 a.m. at New Riverside Cemetery in Alton.

Agnes M. Blais
AMESBURY, Mass. - Agnes M. Blais, 83, died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Amesbury Village in Amesbury.
Daughter of Gideon and Catherine Blais, she attended St. John’s School and Laconia High School.
Before moving to Plymouth, Mass., she worked as a receptionist at Laconia Hospital for many years.
In Plymouth, she was an administrative assistant at St. Peter’s Church for 38 years. She was a member of St. Peter’s Women’s Club and St. Peter’s Pastoral Council.
She was predeceased by her mother, Francis Blais of Laconia.
Survivors include two nieces, Charmein Fanning and Kathryn Ewing; a nephew, Shaun Blais; and a sister-in-law, Mary Blais of Laconia.
Alice R. Sauners
LACONIA - Graveside services for Alice R. Saunders, 92, formerly of 21 Winter St., who died at the Belknap County Nursing Home on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2004, at 11 a.m. in Union Cemetery, Laconia. She was the widow of Lorenzo E. Saunders who died in 1962.
Mrs. Saunders is survived by a niece, Lucille Smith of Dover. She was predeceased by two brothers, Archie LaCroix who died in 1991 and Joseph LaCroix who died in 1985; a niece, Nancy Marcoux, who died in 2002; a nephew, Raymond Garneau; and a friend, Robert Desautell, who died in 1986.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home Activities Fund, 30 County Drive, Laconia, NH 03246.

Sally Merchant
LACONIA - Graveside services for Sally Elizabeth Merchant, 83, who died Jan. 17, 2004, at Genesis Eldercare, Laconia Center, will be held Saturday, June 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. in Bayside Cemetery, Laconia.
She was the widow of Robert J. Merchant Sr. and sister of the late Helen Hughes.
Family members include a son, Robert J. Merchant Jr.; two grandsons, Robert J. Merchant III and John C. Merchant; five nieces and three nephews.

Nancy Svindland
LACONIA - Nancy Ruth Svindland, 68, a Fort Myers, Fla., resident since 1989, formerly of Lucerne Avenue, Weirs Beach, died April 20, 2004 in Ft. Myers. She was born December 2, 1935 in Laconia to the late John Haley and Ruth Hernandez. Mrs. Svindland was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church of Front Royal, Virginia, the First United Methodist Church of Gilford, New Hampshire as well as the Faith United Methodist Church of Fort Myers where she participated in both the choir and hand bells. She was a member also of the Front Royal Jaycetts, the Red Hat Society and the D.A.R.
Mrs. Svindland was preceded in death by her husband John Reidar Svindland in 1989 as well as her stepfather, Dr. Rembert Hernandez, and mother Ruth Hernandez.
Survivors include three children, Karol Derflinger and husband Mark of Front Royal, Va., Kristian Svindland and fiancée, Sarah Torres, of Laconia, and Kathrine Broderick of Milford, Conn.; two brothers, John Haley and wife Marion of Arvada, Colo., and Harley Hernandez and wife Margaret of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three grandchildren, Lindsay and Evan Broderick and Madelynn Derflinger.
In addition to raising three children, Mrs. Svindland worked as a teacher in the Laconia School District, at Laconia Federal Savings & Loan and at Gunstock Recreation Area. She was an avid reader, music lover and hosted many picnics and parties at her home on Lake Winnipesaukee. She participated in countless charitable events, volunteered at area hospitals and was always available to lend a helping hand.
Memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 500 Gilford Avenue, Gilford, New Hampshire on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at 1 p.m. Private burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to one of the following: Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Ft. Michael R. Cass
BELMONT - Michael R. Cass, 55, of 45 Concord St., died at his home on Friday, June 18, 2004.
Mr. Cass was born May 7, 1949, in Laconia, the son of Raymond and Marie Rose (Vaillancourt) Cass. He was a lifelong resident of Belmont. Mr. Cass served in the Army. He was employed at Sysco for 27 years and was supervisor when he retired in November 2003.
Mr. Cass enjoyed boating, traveling and his two dogs, Renzo and Milo.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin J. and Kimberly Cass, of Manchester; a daughter and son-in-law, Kate and Michael Bystrom of Scottsdale, Ariz.; his mother, Marie Rose Cass of Belmont; a granddaughter, Mary Bystrom of Arizona; two step-granddaughters, Meghan Sawler and Kaitlyn Sawler, both of Manchester; three brothers, James S. Cass of Canterbury, Scott A. Cass of Belmont, and Peter F. Cass of Lake Worth, Fla.; a sister, Judy M. Morris of Durham, Maine; a companion of 16 years, Carol A. Lacasse; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Raymond S. Cass, who died in 1990.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 23, at 11 a.m. at South Road Cemetery, South Road, Belmont.

Arthur F. Wilder
LACONIA - Arthur F. Wilder, 79, of 45 Overland St., died Saturday July 31, 2004, at his home.
Mr. Wilder was born April 8, 1925, in Worcester, Mass., the son of Herbert W. and Ella M. (Rice) Wilder.
He had been a resident of Laconia since 1948, coming from Jaffrey.
Mr. Wilder was employed by the Laconia school system and was the custodian at the Pleasant Street School from 1958 until he retired in 1990.
He was a member of the Bible Speaks Church.
He was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel (Fellows) Wilder of Laconia; three sons, Fred Wilder of New Milford, Conn., Leon Wilder of Goffstown, and Glen Wilder of Belmont; a daughter Linda Collins of Fort Collins, Colo.; two stepsons, David McGowan of Laconia and Daniel McGowan of Hooksett; a stepdaughter, Terry McGowan of Lakeport; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ethel T. Wilder, in 1987.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004, from 6-8 p.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Horne, pastor of the Bible Speaks Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

Huguette M. Pinette
LACONIA - Huguette M. Pinette, 82, of 30 County Drive, Laconia, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, surrounded by family.
Mrs. Pinette was born on Feb. 19, 1922, in Loretteville, Quebec.
Mrs. Pinette lived most of her life in Berlin, and later moved to Westbrook, Maine, and Laconia.
She was predeceased by her husband, Eli L. Pinette.
Survivors include two daughters, two sons and spouses, Mrs. Jean and Roger Fournier of Laconia, Don and Rachel Pinette of Colchester, Vt., Rick and Cheryl Pinette of Champions Gate, Fla., and Mrs. Judy and Bill Bormet of Westbrook, Maine; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Lacroix of Berlin; several nieces, nephews and friends.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, Aug. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Fleury-Patry Funeral Home in Berlin. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 5, at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, on Pleasant Street in Berlin. Interment will be in the St. Kieran’s Cemetery in Berlin.
