Dr. Roger P. Brassard
LACONIA - Dr. Roger P. Brassard, 90, formerly of 328 Union Ave., died Nov. 12, 2003, in the Congregate Living Center of the Taylor Community.
He was born in Ashland on Feb. 21, 1913, the son of Edgar and Isabel (Savage) Brassard.
He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1935 and received his masters degree from the University in 1936. He attended and received his medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University in 1940. He served his internship and residency at Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury, Conn.
During World War II he served in the Army Medical Corps where he earned the rank of major and was the recipient of the Bronze Star for meritorious service in support of combat operations in the Philippines.
Following the war, he established a family and anesthesia medical practice in Laconia and served the community for 50 years until his retirement in 1996.
He was a former chief of staff at Lakes Region General Hospital of Laconia and served on the senior active staff.
He was a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Examiners. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the New Hampshire Medical Society, and a member and past president of the Belknap County Medical Society.
He held membership in the American Academy of Family Practice, the New Hampshire Academy of Family Practice, the American, New England and New Hampshire branches of the Society of Anesthesiologists. He served as a fellow to the American Academy of Family Practice and a diplomate to the American Board of Family Practice. In addition, Dr. Brassard held membership in the American and New England Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the International Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
An active Republican, he served on the local School Board for 18 years.
Dr. Brassard was a communicant of St. Joseph Church.
Family members include his wife of 53 years, Vivian (Flanders) Brassard of Laconia; three daughters, Ann Saltmarsh and her husband James Saltmash of Laconia, Dr. Deborah Brassard of Tunkhannock, Pa. and Mary Jane Farmlett and her husband Dr. Edward "Ted" Farmlett of Laconia; two grandchildren, Ellen Castro of New York City and Chris Farmlett of Laconia; and several cousins.
Calling hours will be in the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 30 Church St., on Saturday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 7312, Gilford NH 03247-7312 for a scholarship to benefit those studying family practice medicine.
Michael J. Flynn
CAMPTON - Michael "Stoney" J. Flynn, Jr., 37, of 1377 Route 175, died Dec. 7, 2003 in Campton.
Mr. Flynn was born May 18, 1966, in Glendale, Calif. He was a carpenter and was employed by Lima’s Home Repairs in Thornton for several years.
He loved horses, dancing and spending time with his friends.
Mr. Flynn is survived by his girlfriend, Krissy L. Napolitano of Meredith; several longtime friends, Louise Turner of Campton, Bob and Lisa Lima of Thornton, Bill Strout and Barbara Dimaggio, both of Campton, and Debi Byers of Dorchester; and by his friends’ children who affectionately called him "Uncle Stoney," Amanda Clough and Trisha Clough both of Campton, Mark Cochran and Alicia White, both of Thornton, and Jason DeLiello of Ashland.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 1-4 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.
A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2004.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to N.H. Equine Humane Association Inc., 27 Main St., Goffstown, NH 03045.

Pauline L. Brown
BELMONT - Pauline Labonte Brown, 74, of 17 Orchard Hill Road, Belmont, died Dec. 11, 2003, at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia.
She was born in Gilford on Aug. 1, 1929, the daughter of Arthur J. and Diane (Michel) Labonte.
Raised in Gilford, she attended Gilford Elementary School and Laconia High School.
She was the widow of George Brown, who died in 1968.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Brown was employed as a desk clerk at the Shalimar Resort.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart parish.
She always enjoyed the time spent with her family.
Members of the family include, two sisters, Helen Perron of Laconia and May Hamberger and her husband, Carl of Laconia; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Philip "Pat" Labonte and his wife Heather, Leo "Pete" Labonte and his wife Dorothy and Robert "Bob" Labonte and his wife Sherry, all of Gilford; nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 291 Union Ave. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Adrien Longchamps, pastor, will be the celebrant. Private urn burial will be in the spring in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association of N.H., 9 Cedarwood Dr., Unit 12, Bedford NH 03110. Timothy C. Molan of the Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Hilda L. van der Voet
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Hilda L. van der Voet, 85, of Williamsburg, Va., died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003.
She was born in Bridgewater, N.H., on July 2, 1918, the daughter of Will F. and Lilla M. Morrill.
She attended Gordon College in Boston, Mass.
She was married on June 28, 1942, in Bisbee, Ariz., to Dirk van der Voet.
Throughout her life she was active in the Christian education of children, teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school wherever they lived.
During her life she traveled with her husband in South America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Her husband, Ret. Lt. Col. Dirk van der Voet and her infant daughter Sandra Lee predeceased her.
Surviving family members include her son, Dirk van der Voet of Bridgewater, N.H.; daughter, Deborah (Michael) Hogle of Okemos, Mich.; grandsons, David (Stephanie) van der Voet of Rochester; Bryan Hogle of Virginia Beach, Va. and Steven Hogle of Okemos, Mich.; two sisters, Reba M. Simonds and Marjorie C. Black; a brother, Lawrence G. Morrill; sisters-in-law Esther Morrill, Frances Morrill, Ruth Morrill and Ethel (Henry) Stadnick; many nieces and nephews.
Burial took place in Homeland Cemetery in Bristol. A family service will be held in the spring. The William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home of Tilton is assisting the family with arrangements.
Ruth E. Bunker
WESTERLY, R.I. - Ruth E. Bunker, 82, of The Elms in Westerly, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 28, 2004, at her residence.
She was born in Laconia, N.H., on March 7, 1921, the daughter of Harold and Katie Follansbee Bryar. She was the widow of James R. Bunker.
Mrs. Bunker had been a special education teacher for the Herman, Maine, School District retiring after 25 years.
She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Peterson of Groton, Conn. and Ruth E. Lee of Kapolei, Hawaii; three sons, David Bunker of East Holden, Maine and Stephen and Philip Bunker of West Palm Beach, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Paul Bunker, a brother Keith Bryar and a sister Arlene Strube.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Groton Heights Baptist Church, 72 Broad St., Groton, Conn. Interment will be in Franklin, Maine, in the spring. There are no visiting hours.

Elizabeth M. Swain
MEREDITH - Elizabeth Marjorie Swain, 74, of Water Street died suddenly Jan. 29, 2004, at her home.
Born in Framingham, Mass., on Sept. 17, 1929, she was the daughter of Tracy Leroy and Irene Elizabeth (Chartier) Horne.
She grew up in the Sutton, Mass., area and graduated from Sutton High School. She also was a graduate from the Laconia Business School, in Laconia. She moved to Meredith at the age of 18 and had resided here since then.
She worked for the Blaisdell Insurance Agency in Meredith as a secretary for many years.
She was a very active communicant of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Meredith, and had served the church as a treasurer, a member of the Women’s Guild, the Altar Guild, and on the Vestry. She was a member, and past grand noble of the Lakeside Rebekah Lodge 67 and the Ashland Rebekah Lodge, serving as the vice grand Noble. She was a past officer of the Rebekah Assembly of New Hampshire. She was a member of Ellacoya Chapter 43 Order of Eastern Star, Meredith, and held many offices. She was a member of the Easy-Does-It’s group at the Laconia Swim Club, and a past member of the Inter-Lakes Boosters Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence E. Swain, who died in December of 1999 and a sister, Marion H. Trevor, of Moultonboro, who died in 1992.
Survivors include three sons, Robert E. Swain, Richard L. Swain and Donald C. Swain, all of Meredith; one daughter, Terri S. Hawkins and husband Garey of Gilmanton; two grandchildren, Shawnn Vaillant and Melissa Vaillant; two brothers, Tracy Horne and wife Nancy of San Angelo, Texas and Guy Horne and wife Sylvia of East Douglas, Mass.; four sisters, Helen Robertson and husband Warren of Sarasota, Fla., Hazel Merchant and husband Donald of Norwich, Vt., Edith Hartford and husband Stanley of Meredith and Doris Lavallee of Meredith; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and one god-daughter, Kara LaFrance of Meredith.
Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, Routes 3 and 104, Meredith, on Friday 6-9 p.m. The Lakeside-Ashland Rebakah Lodge 67 will conduct a Rebekah service at 7 p.m. and the Ellacoya Chapter 43 OES will conduct an Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Trinity Episcopal Church, on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robin Thomas, rector, will be the celebrant. Spring burial will be held in the Meredith Village Cemetery, Meredith. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Trinity Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 635, Meredith, NH 03253.
Marion Houlihan
NORTHFIELD - Mrs. Marion Houlihan, 73, of Shaker Road, died at Wallison Hospital in Okeechobee, Fla., on Jan. 26, 2004.
She was born in Laconia on Dec. 2, 1930, the daughter of Lawrence and Lettie (Haggett) Muzzey.
Mrs. Houlihan resided in Northfield for most of her life. She was employed as a housekeeper for the family of Dr. Frank Robinson.
She participated in many town functions . She was a former member of the Northfield Planning Board, the Park Cemetery Committee and the Old Home Day Committee. She was a member of the Northfield Historical Society, the Whiteman-Davidson American Legion Post Auxiliary, the 8 & 40 Club, and volunteered for many other groups. She belonged to the Friendship Grange 110 for 60 years and to the Pomona Grange.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth E. Houlihan, who died in 1994.
Survivors include two brothers, John Muzzey of Peacham, Vt. and Donald Muzzey of Northfield; two sisters, Carolyn Brown of Belmont and Gertrude Brandenburg of Peoria, Ariz.; an aunt, Dorothy Dane of Concord; an uncle, Sheridan Haggett of Springfield, Okla.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and burial in Park Cemetery, Tilton, will be held in the spring.
