Irene Shackett
BRISTOL - Irene Shackett, 83, of West Shore Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at her daughter’s home in Manchester.
She was born in Suncook, the daughter of Ernest and Laura (Desmaris) LaPierre.
Mrs. Shackett was a longtime resident of the Newfound area and, together with her late husband, Ralph I. Shackett, was co-founder of Shackett’s Store.
Mrs. Shackett was a communicant of St. Timothy’s Church in Bristol and St. Bernard’s in Holmes Beach, Fla.
Family members include two sons, Ralph E. Shackett of Bristol and Charles L. Shackett of Laconia; one daughter, Shirley Gilbert of Manchester; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Ernest LaPierre of Farmington.
Calling hours will be today from 7-9 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Chapel at the corner of Route 3A and West Shore Road, Bristol. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Chapel. The Rev. William Quirk will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Homeland Cemetery in Bristol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Timothy’s Church, PO Box 37, Bristol, NH 03222. Arrangements are under the direction of Emmons Funeral Home of Bristol.
Lawrence W. Robie
HILL - Lawrence W. Robie, 101, died Sept. 25, 2002 at his home after a brief illness.
He had lived in Hill since 1928 and over the years had served as road agent as well as a selectman, a member of the Planning Board and Zoning Board, and a trustee of the Cemetery Fund.
He was a former member of Tri-Peak Grange.
In 2001, Mr. Robie was honored as Hill’s oldest living resident.
He owned and operated a large dairy farm in Hill for many years, and also worked as a logger as well as a bus driver for the Franklin School District. In later years, he enjoyed gardening and tractor work.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Caroline B. Robie of Hill; eight children, Ruth E. Cross of Danbury, George W. Robie of Hill, Raymond A. Robie of Grafton, Robert F. Robie of Bomoseen, Vt., Mary Fuller of Concord, Julie Loftus of Ledyard, Conn., Dorothy Reinert of Boscawen and Helen E. Smart of Brunswick, Vt.; 24 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet Morrison of Bristol; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son, Lawrence W. Robie Jr., who died in 1970, and by three brothers, Ernest Robie, Herbert Robie and Eugene Robie, formerly of Bristol, and two sisters, Isobel Blodgett, formerly of Hebron and Carol Dickinson, formerly of Bristol.
James E. Dyer
LACONIA - James E. Dyer, 74, of 8A Summer St., died Dec. 10, 2002 in Biddeford, Maine. Mr. Dyer was the widower of Dorothy (Egan) Dyer, who died Dec. 24, 1995.
Mr. Dyer was born March 18, 1928 in Laconia, the son of George B. and Virginia (Marchand) Dyer and was a lifelong resident of Laconia.
Mr. Dyer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He was employed at Scott & Williams for more than 20 years and had also worked for New Hampshire Ball Bearings, retiring in 1994. For a number of years, Mr. Dyer worked part-time at Union Cemetery.
He was a longtime member of the Harness Association of America.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth A. Remal and Nanci M. Stone, both of Gilford; a son, James P. Dyer of Laconia; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Vera Pooler of Laconia; one brother, Ronald Dyer of Leominister, Mass; and several nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by a brother, George Dyer.
There will be no calling hours.
A private graveside service will be held in the Spring in Union Cemetery, Laconia.

Murray G. Davis
NEW HAMPTON - Murray G. Davis, 75, of Meetinghouse Lane, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Hartford, Conn., the son of Guy William and Evelyn Etta (Parshley) Davis. Mr. Davis grew up in New Hampton and attended area schools. He was a graduate of Bristol High School, where he was a letterman and president of the Class of 1944.
Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving as a Construction Electrician’s Mate during World War II.
After his discharge from the Navy, he married the former Miriam White. Mr. and Mrs. Davis settled in the Oxnard, Calif., area. Mr. Davis worked for 32 years for GTE as a telephone lineman. After his retirement, he returned to New Hampton.
Mr. Davis was a member of the New Hampton Community Church.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in California and a member of the National Rifle Association. He served as an assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scouts in California. As a boy, he had been active with the Boy Scouts in Bristol.
Family members include his wife of 54 years, Miriam (White) Davis of New Hampton; two sons, William Glenn Davis of New Hampton and Brian Guy Davis of Sanbornton; one daughter, Adele Gay Akers of New Hampton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Woodward of New Hampton; nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Sunday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. at the New Hampton Community Church. Interment services will be Monday, Dec. 16, at 9 a.m. at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Marietta F. Dow
RUMNEY - Marietta Frances Dow, 68, of Sand Hill Road, died Dec. 12, 2002 at her home.
Born in South Wentworth on Jan. 16, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Gordon F. Sr. and Almira (Livermore) McKee.
She grew up in the Rumney area and graduated from Rumney Elementary School. She also was a graduate of Plymouth High School, Class of 1952. She had been a resident of the Rumney and West Rumney area most all of her life.
Prior to starting her family, she worked at J.J. Newberry’s Store in Plymouth. She also served the Town of Rumney as a ballot clerk for many years.
She was a member of the West Rumney Community Church and the Baker River Grange in Rumney.
She was predeceased by her husband, Conrad W. Dow, who died in 1988.
Survivors include eight children, Constance Duhamel of Manchester, John Dow of Rumney, William Dow of Sanbornton, Penny Pitts of Oregon, Richard Dow of Rumney, Lesa Gibbons of Plymouth, Patricia Vittum of New Hampton and Pamela Hoyt of Campton; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother of North Haverhill; a brother, Gordon McKee Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Olive McBride of Campton; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth, on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the West Rumney Community Church on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Lynn Johnson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Rumney. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pemi Baker Home Health Hospice, Plymouth, NH 03264 or the Oncology Department at Speare Memorial Hospital, Plymouth, NH 03264.
Brian C. Tear
LEE, Mass. - Brian C. Tear, 58, formerly of Plymouth, N.H., died unexpectedly Jan. 29, 2003, at UMass Memorial Health Care Hospital in Worcester, Mass.
He was born in Plymouth, N.H., on Sept. 20, 1944, the son of John P. and Carolyn (Flanders) Tear.
He grew up in Plymouth and graduated from Plymouth High School, Class of 1962. He also attended New Hampshire College. He was a resident of Lee for the past 15 years.
He worked for the Johnson Dealerships in Pittsfield, Mass., where he earned the number one salesman position.
He was an avid antique collector and enjoyed traveling, coin and stamp collecting, animals and spending time as a devoted husband, father, and loving grandfather.
Family members include his wife, Victoria Tear of Lee; three, children, Kenneth B. Tear of Guilderland, N.Y., Catherine A. White of Londonderry, N.H., and James Carlson of Nashua N.H.: five grandchildren; a brother, John Tear of Bow, N.H.; a sister, Virginia Minichiello of Plymouth, N.H.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth, N.H., on Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Judith Gooch, pastor of the Plymouth Congregational Church, will officiate. Spring burial will be held in the Riverside Cemetery, Plymouth.

Alfonse Bersuch
ASHLAND - Alfonse Bersuch, 72, of 45 Mill Street, died at the Franklin Regional Hospital, Franklin, on Wednesday, April 2, 2003.
Mr. Bersuch was born April 15, 1930, in Manhattan, N.Y., the son of George and Frieda (Kloess) Bersuch.
Mr. Bersuch served in the U.S. Marine Corps on the U.S.S. Little Rock from 1947-1951. He was a police officer for the New York City Police Department for 25 years and lived in Brentwood, Long Island, N.Y., before moving to Ashland 23 years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Eileen (Van Soest) Bersuch of Ashland; two daughters, Donna Pellegrino and Bonnie Merkel, both of Boca Raton, Fla.; four grandchildren, JoAnne Merkel, Kimberly Merkel, Richard Merkel and Joseph Pellegrino, all of Boca Raton, Fla.; two sisters, Edith Coar and Linda Guthrie, both of Maryland; and one nephew. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan (Drews) Bersuch.
There will be no calling hours.
A Graveside Service will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y.
