Lawrence E. Stone Jr.
THORNTON - Lawrence Edward Stone Jr., 66, of Route 3, died Oct. 5, 2002 at his home.
He was born in Manchester on Jan. 30, 1936, the son of Lawrence E. and Marjorie (Willoughby) Stone Sr.
Mr. Stone was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed by various resorts in Florida as a supervisor of maintenance. He retired to New Hampshire in 1993 and had resided in Thornton since 1996.
Survivors include one son, Lawrence E. Stone III of Loudon; two daughters, Cheryl LaRose of Manchester and Deanna Couture of Hooksett; seven grandchildren; his mother, Marjorie Coleman of Stratham; and one sister, Karlene Oleniak of Stratham.
There are no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held. Mayhew Funeral Home, Plymouth, is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen D. Martin
Mrs. Martin was born April 29, 1908 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Andrew and Bertha (Mills) Dey.
Mrs. Martin was the executive director of the Laconia Housing and Redevelopment Authority for 25 years, retiring at the age of 80. Previously, she was a retailer on Main Street and owned and operated a nut shop, was a floral designer at Whittemore's Flower Shop and was a salesclerk at Rogers' Stationery Store. She was employed in the marketing department for community television and was also a reporter for the Manchester Union Leader.
Mrs. Martin was a member of the Laconia Congregational Church.
She was a member of the board of trustees of the Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation; a member of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs and was a former president of the Laconia and State Chapters; was a longtime member and past president of the Altrusa Club of Laconia; was a past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star and was vice president of the New Hampshire Arthritis and Rheumatoid Foundation.
Survivors include two sons, Atty. Willard G. Martin Jr. of Sandwich and Richard A. Martin of Wilton, Conn.; a daughter, Janet D. Martin of Exeter; eight grandchildren, Holly Blasbalg, Richard Martin, Stephen Martin, Melissa Martin, Helen Martin, Galya Martin, Rhoda Carter Sommer and Laurel Carter Perkins; 10 great-grandchildren; and cousins, Andrew Dey and Annie Dey of Alvah, Scotland.
There will be no calling hours.
A funeral service will be held in the carriage house of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, on Friday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dena McPhetres, pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Laconia, will officiate.
Spring burial will be in the family lot in Union Cemetery, Laconia.

Arthur H. Reynolds
KINGSTON - Arthur H. Reynolds of 182 Main St., Kingston, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident on Jan. 16, 2004, in Brentwood.
He was born in Omaha, Neb., on Nov. 2, 1916 to Halsey Woodford Reynolds and Harriet Willimena (Arthur) Reynolds.
A lifelong resident of Kingston, he attended the Patten School and Sanborn Seminary.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on Sept. 17, 1940. He survived the Bataan Death March and various Japanese prison camps during World War II and retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service to the country.
He was an active antiques dealer and collector. He was very active in the Kingston Historical Society and was a life member of the American Philatelic Society, the American Defenders of Bataan, American Ex-POW’s, VFW and Disabled American Veterans.
He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 52 years, Ruth Ethelyn (Landry), who died May 31, 1998.
Survivors include a son, Bruce A. Reynolds and daughter-in-law of Meredith; several nieces and nephews, their children and many friends.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, Church St., Kingston. A reception will follow in the rent room at the church.

Robert S. Smith
ITHACA, N.Y. - Robert Samuel Smith died unexpectedly at home on Jan. 25, 2004.
Mr. Smith was chairman emeritus of Tompkins County Trust Company and the W. I. Myers Professor of Agricultural Finance emeritus at Cornell University.
Mr. Smith was born and raised on a dairy farm in Gilford. He was the son of Samuel W. Smith and Winnifred Page Smith. He received his B.S. degree in Agriculture from Cornell University in 1942 just before entering the Army to serve as a field artillery officer in Europe. After his discharge, he was an agricultural extension agent in Belknap County.
He returned to Cornell in 1949 and earned his Ph.D. in agricultural economics in 1952. He retired from Cornell in 1980 after serving 28 years on the faculty.
Mr. Smith was well known throughout New York state for his work with farm families, extension agents, agricultural lenders and tax practitioners. He received many merit awards for his teaching and extension work and became nationally known for his work in agricultural finance.
Mr. Smith served as advisor to the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture in 1960 and 1961, and as an advisor for the Agricultural Development Fund of Iran in 1968. From 1960 to 1976, Mr. Smith served as director of the Bankers School of Agriculture held on the Cornell campus each summer, and he served as consultant for banks of the Farm Credit System.
Following his retirement from Cornell, he was chairman of the board of the Tompkins County Trust Company. He also served as a board member or consultant to numerous organizations, including serving as the agricultural specialist on the Board of Mutual of New York.
In Ithaca, he served on the boards of both Hospicare and Challenge Industries.
Mr. Smith and his wife recently endowed the Morgan-Smith Trail at Cornell Plantations in recognition of their dedication to Cornell University and love for the woods and nature.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by seven siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Morgan Smith; five children, Patricia Ley of Providence, R.I.; Peggy Rochette of Reston, Va.; M. Scott Smith of Lexington, Ky.; Sharon Purdy of Edgartown, Mass.; and Starlee Smith of Georgetown, Ky.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Jessie Naylor of Gilford and Anne Dowling of Guilderland, N.Y.

Teresa L. Richardson
LACONIA - Mrs. Teresa L. Richardson, 81, of Norridgewock, Maine, formerly of 57 Pearl Street, Laconia, died on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at the Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center in Madison, Maine, where she had been a resident for the past year and a half.
Mrs. Richardson was born June 19, 1922 in Tamworth, the daughter of Edward V. and Ellen P. (Whiting) Bookholz. She was a graduate of Plymouth State College and was a psychiatric nurse at the Laconia State School and Training Center for several years, retiring in January 1983.
Mrs. Richardson was a member of the State Employees Association of New Hampshire and the S.E.A. Retired Chapter l.
She always had a love for the outdoors, and animals had always been an important part of her life, especially the last few years while battling Alzheimer's disease.
Mrs. Richardson was predeceased by her husband, Harold A. Richardson, who died in 1998; and a sister, Frances Bookholz.
She is survived by three sons, Alan Severy and his wife Sharon of Wolfeboro, Craig Richardson and his wife Kim of Holderness and Aaron Richardson and his wife Colleen of Laconia; a daughter, Rhonda Clement and her husband Jay of Norridgewock, Maine; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Jones and her husband James of Lancaster, Calif.
There will be no calling hours.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the family lot at Riverside Cemetery, Tamworth.

Yvonne B. Duhamel
WORCESTER, Mass. - Yvonne B. (Champagne) Duhamel, 93, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare Center in Worcester.
She was a former resident of Lowell, Laconia, N.H. and Naples, Fla. Born in Lowell on Aug. 18, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Alphonsine (Brissette) Champagne.
Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Duhamel and her husband owned and operated the Capri Cottages on Weirs Boulevard in Laconia. She was also employed as a stitcher in Lakeport.
She was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Ladies Auxiliary in Laconia, and the Senior Citizens of Naples, Fla.
Mrs. Duhamel was predeceased by her husband, Yvonick "Nick" Duhamel; a son, Donald Duhamel; and three siblings, Rose Falardeau, Lionel Champagne and Edward Champagne.
She is survived by a son, Roger C. Duhamel and his wife Helen of Salem, N.H.; a daughter, Constance Powell and her husband Guy of Millbury, Mass.; a sister, Loretta Valliere of Lowell, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the McKenna-Ouellette Funeral Home, 327 Hildreth St., Lowell, Mass., from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday. A funeral will be held on Thursday with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Ste. Marie Church, Chamberlain Street, Lowell, Mass. Burial will be in the Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton, Mass. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
Shirley W. Poynter
ALTON BAY - Mrs. Shirley W. Poynter, 76, of 6 Donald Drive, died at the Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro, on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004.
Mrs. Poynter was born March 29, 1927 in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of John R. and Bessie G. (Lake) Smith. She lived in Melrose, Mass., for several years before moving to New Hampshire 20 years ago.
Mrs. Poynter loved the country, animals and local politics.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Edwin F. Poynter of Alton Bay; three cousins, Barbara M. Lake of Rockport, Mass., Bruce C. Lake of Boston, and Charles D. Lake of Marion, Mass.
There will be no calling hours.
