SYDNEY, Nova Scotia - Thomas E. Appleton, of Pembroke, formerly of Quincy and Tuftonboro, died Jan. 30 at age 98. He was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia to the late Henry Charles and Lillian (Carr) Appleton. The beloved husband of the late Greta (Melville) Appleton, he was the cherished father of Mary and her husband, Dr. Robert Dandrow of Milton; Paul Appleton of Wolfeboro, Henry Appleton and his wife Judith of North Scituate, and the late Thomas Jr. and Evelyn Appleton. Appleton had spent the past eight years in the loving care of his granddaughter, Elizabeth Dodge, her husband Stephen and their two children in Pembroke. Six other grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also affectionately remember him. He was employed by the First National Bank of Boston for 45 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church, Milton, Saturday morning, Feb. 5 at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., Milton from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4. Burial will be at the Blue Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas' name to Marlan Manor, 130 Dorchester Street, South Boston, Mass. 02127-2699.
Donald A. Goodrich

WOLFEBORO - Donald A. Goodrich, 68, of Pine Hill Road, died Saturday, Jan. 29, at Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro. He was a native and life-long resident of Wolfeboro. He was born Jan. 7, 1937, the son of the late Arthur and Alice (Bisbee) Goodrich.
After graduating from Brewster Academy, Goodrich went to work for the Fred E. Varney Building Company, where he worked for many years before becoming a self-employed cabinet maker, working in the Wolfeboro area for 40 years.
Goodrich served in the NH National Guard for several years. He was a 50-year member of the Lake Shore Grange #128 in Wolfeboro, and a member of the Wolfeboro Historical Society.
He leaves his wife of 45 years Beverly (Wiggin) Goodrich, Wolfeboro; a son, Donald A. Goodrich Jr., Tuftonboro; three daughters: Kelly A. Voedisch, Wolfeboro; Wendy A. Nelson, Wolfeboro; and Crystal A. Goodrich, South Portland, Maine; as well as four grandchildren.
Calling hours were Tuesday, Feb. 1 at the Lord Funeral Home, Rt. 28, Wolfeboro. A graveside service will be held in the spring.

Kenneth Louis Remson

Age: 74
Founder of Pine Hill Little League
MEREDITH - Kenneth Louis "Red" Remson, 74, of Tracy Way, died Jan. 29, at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia. Born in Lynn, Mass., on May 6, 1930, he was the son of Louis Remson and Violet (Bridgeo) Remson Downes.
He grew up in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English High School. He lived in the Boston area for many years and moved to Meredith 23 years ago, coming from Lynnfield, Mass.
Remson owned and operated Remcon Machine in Wakefield, Mass., and moved the company to Meredith 22 years ago, now Remcon North Corporation. He was the founder and first president of the Pine Hill Little League, in Lynn, and a lifetime member of the Mount Carmel Masonic Lodge, in Lynn. He was also a member and past president of the Meredith Chamber of Commerce and the Waukewan Golf Club, in Center Harbor. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating.
He was predeceased by a stepson, Stephen Pierce, of Merrimack.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marie P. (Allfrey) Remson, of Meredith; four sons, Robert Remson and wife Susette, of Moultonborough, Kenneth A. Remson, of Meredith, John Remson and wife Kathleen, of Moultonborough, and William Remson, of Meredith; a stepson, Dana Pierce and wife Deena, of Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren, Michael Remson and wife Karen, of Lynn, Mass.; Nicole Remson, MaryAnn Remson, Margaret Remson, and Anthony Remson, of Moultonborough, and Blake Remson, of Meredith; seven step-grandchildren; Laura Cadmus and husband Derek, of Chicago, Ill., Holly Pierce and Stephen Pierce Jr., of Merrimack, Evan, Kyle, Audrey and Wesley Pierce, of Salem, Ore.; two great-grandchildren, Courtney and Carley, of Lynn, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a private service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association, or the American Heart Association, N.H. Affiliate, or the National Kidney Foundation. The Mayhew Funeral Home, in Meredith, is in charge of the arrangements.
Norman Jean Bowser Lucy

Gifted storyteller, synchronized swimmer
SILVER LAKE - Norma Jean Bowser Lucy, 74, of Silver Lake, died Jan. 28, at her home as she wished, in her bedroom at gorgeous "Camp Norma," following a short battle with lung cancer. Born June 18, 1930 in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jessie Adams and Joseph Harry Bowser (both deceased). She moved to North Conway, in 1950. She was formerly married to Robert D. Lucy, origina1 30-year owners of "The White Trellis Motel," of North Conway. She had lived at Silver Lake since 1982. The family includes her four daughters: Rebecca Lucy of Lakewood, Colo.; Diana Pelosi of Portland, Maine; Belinda Prittie of Palmyra, Va.; and Joanna Lucy of North Yarmouth, Maine. She has four grandchildren: Michael and Jillian Pelosi of Portland, Maine; Jasmine and Leah Prittie of Palmyra, Va. She leaves two sisters: Althea Mason of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and Marlene Rice of Sterling Park, Va. She was predeceased by two brothers: Zane and Alfred Bowser. She has many nieces and nephews.
Lucy had great ingenuity and talent. Not a water-skier, she nonetheless trained and lead an annual water-ski show on Silver Lake for a couple years with local kids from around the lake. Having spent some time at Cypress Gardens, Fla. as a synchronized swimming performer before coming to NH, she watched and learned how water-ski pyramids and various tricks were performed. She successfully translated that to her local water-ski shows. She was also a great storyteller. She entertained many who visited with outrageous stories of her life, like sharing a flight with the LA Lakers in the 1960's, for example. She loved to entertain.
Lucy had many talents including flower gardening, brush stroke decorative acrylic painting, knitting, sewing and cooking. Her beautiful calligraphic writing became her penmanship of choice. She also adored wild bird-watching. She placed a baby monitor transmitter on the bird feeder tree and kept the receiver in the kitchen so she could hear the birds chirp as though they were right next to her. Her special love, however, was a brown tabby cat named Hobie who became her companion for the last five years of her life. She was a gift from daughter Joanna, whose mate was allergic. Hobie and Lucy had a lot in common. Hobie passed away just weeks before Lucy. They lived for each other and both will be missed by many.
Lucy's final wishes are non-traditional – no surprise. She wanted a party in her honor to celebrate her life. There will be an open memorial service on her birthday, June 18 at "Camp Norma," that will include ceremoniously spreading her ashes after a reading of poems she had selected, and an open microphone for friends and family to share stories. If friends wish to send a memorial gift, her charities of choice are the Arthritis Foundation, Northern New England Chapter, 6 Chenell Drive Suite 260, Concord, NH 03301 and Carroll County Health and Home Care Services Foundation, P.O. Box 420, Chocorua, NH 03817.

Marion F. Ring

Age: 91
Enjoyed gardening and baking pies
EAST WAKEFIELD - Marion F. Ring, age 91 of Ballards Ridge Road in East Wakefield, died Jan. 28, 2005 at the Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro after a period of failing health.
Born Dec. 19, 1913 in Newburyport, Mass., the daughter of the late Eugene and Florence (Canning) Spencer. Raised in Newburyport, Mass., she had lived in Wakefield, Mass., for many years before moving to East Wakefield for the last 30 years or more.
A retired shoe worker from the former L.B. Evans Shoe in Wakefield, Mass., she was a member of the Center Effingham Baptist Church in Effingham, a member of the Lovell Lake Grange in Wakefield, N.H., the Tuftonboro Pomona Grange in Tuftonboro, N.H., and the Grange in Wakefield, Mass.
She enjoyed gardening, baking pies and bread and feeding birds and any animal that was friendly towards her. She was a collector of collectibles.
Survivors include: a daughter Eleanor F. Lawrence of Wakefield, Mass., two daughter-in-laws, Lois Ring and Debra Ring, both of East Wakefield; five grandchildren: Kevin Ring of East Wakefield, Patti Ring of Effingham, Zachary Ring of East Wakefield, Stephanie McPherson of Farmington, Marcus Ring of East Wakefield; six great grandchildren and one great great grandson.
Predeceased by her husband: G. Elmer Ring 1982, two sons: Edward Ring in 2000 and Daniel Ring in 1989, one brother Joseph Cio and one sister Elizabeth Hutchins in 2004.
Calling hours were on Jan. 31 at the Peaslee Funeral Home 2079 Wakefield Road Sanbornville, NH (Wakefield, NH). A Graveside Funeral service will be held in the spring in the family plot at the Woodland cemetery in Effingham, NH, to be announced. Diane M. Olson
TILTON - Mrs. Diane M. Olson, 58, of 7 North Windy Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002.
Mrs. Olson was born Nov. 15, 1943, in Cambridge, Mass. She resided in Concord for several years before moving to Tilton 10 years ago. She was an assistant librarian at the Hall Memorial Library in Northfield.
Mrs. Olson loved reading, music, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Stefan Olson of Tilton; two daughters, Angela Griffin of North Attleboro, Mass., and Robin Davison of Manchester; four grandchildren, Christopher Davison and Jason Davison, both of Manchester, and Sarah Griffin and Lauren Griffin, both of N. Attleboro, Mass.; her mother, Jeannette (Bretagne) O’Brien of Tilton; and many cousins.
There will be no calling hours.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia. George Hankins Hull, chaplain at the Lakes Region General Hospital, will officiate.

Helen L. Clemons
LACONIA - Mrs. Helen L. Clemons, 84, of 25 Union Ave., died at the Hospice House in Concord on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002.
Mrs. Clemons was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Andrew and Gladys (Lay) Chambers.
She was an elementary school teacher for the Bartlett School District for several years before moving to Laconia in 1956. During her years in Bartlett, she was an adult advisor to the local 4-H.
Mrs. Clemons was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Laconia. She was a member of the United Alliance of Laconia and a member of the Golden Ages. She also was a Red Cross volunteer.
Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Keith, and two sons, James Clemons and Donald Paul Clemons, all of Freedom; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
There will be no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Elm Street, Freedom.

Steven F. Rich
LACONIA - Steven F. Rich, 47, of 867 Weirs Boulevard, died at his home on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002.
Mr. Rich was born June 15, 1955, in Beverly, Mass., the son of Francis R. and Emily A. (Karpitch) Rich. He graduated from Merrimack College in Andover, Mass., and was a manager for Stop and Shop for 25 years, retiring in 1999.
Mr. Rich enjoyed traveling and skiing.
Survivors include a daughter, Lauren A. Rich of Danvers, Mass.; his mother, Emily Rich of Gilford; a sister, Kristine R. McLavey of Merrimack; and two nieces. He was predeceased by his father, Francis R. Rich.
There will be no calling hours.
