David G. Chase

LACONIA - David G. Chase, 85, of 436 Union Ave., Laconia, died at The Taylor Home, Friday, Dec. 7, 2001.

Mr. Chase was born Sept. 22, 1916, in Boston, Mass., the son of Donald A. and Rachel (Andem) Chase. He had been a resident of Laconia for the past 17 years, coming from Cape Cod.

Mr. Chase graduated from Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., in 1938.

Mr. Chase had been employed by the U.S. Air Force as an electronic engineer for 23 years, retiring in 1971. He had worked in Air Force Cambridge Research Lab in Bedford, Mass. After he retired he enjoyed sailing, painting and volunteer work.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn (Roller) Chase of Laconia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Barry Hurley of Eldred, Pa. and Pamela Chase and John Pawlik of Olympia, Wash.; two grandsons, Ethan Hurley and Colin Hurley; a half-brother, Quila Chase of California; and a half-sister, Jacqueline Chase of California; several nephews and nieces.

There are no calling hours.

Services will be held at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, Tuesday at 11 a.m. using the Carriage House entrance. The Rev. Dena McPhetres, minister of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Laconia, will officiate. Burial will be in Plymouth Notch Cemetery, Plymouth, Vt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Taylor Home Bus Fund, 435 Union Ave. Laconia, NH 03246.

Selden B. Rollins

BARNSTEAD - Selden "Sonny" Rollins, 72, of 6 Maple St., died Dec. 8, 2001, at Concord Hospital after a long illness of heart failure.

He was born in Gilmanton Iron Works on Sept. 29, 1929, and lived in Center Barnstead for 48 years. He was the son of Selden B. and Eva (Jones) Rollins. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He worked mostly in shoe factories in Pittsfield, Manchester and Farmington.

Mr. Rollins enjoyed fishing and hunting and all sports. He loved being with his family most of all. He was an excellent baseball player, a coach of Little League and coach to many youngsters in Barnstead.

He was an umpire all around the area for school little leagues and men’s leagues for at least 40 years. He was a firefighter in Gilmanton and Barnstead years ago.

The family includes his wife of 52 years, Belle Joan (Parker) Rollins; two sons, Leon Rollins of Center Barnstead, and Peter Rollins of Ironwood, Mich.; two daughters, Terry Tiede of Center Barnstead and Patti Whinier of Pittsfield; 11 grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and a great-grandchild; a sister, Thelma Golden of Gilmanton Iron Works; and a half-sister, Louise Vernal of Alton; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Raymond F. Valley

LACONIA - Raymond F. Valley, 79, of 144 Washington St., died at his home on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002.

Mr. Valley was born Sept. 25, 1922 in Laconia, the son of Paul and Elizabeth (Boucher) Vallee and was a lifetime resident of Laconia.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Mr. Valley was a foreman for the Laconia Shoe Co. from 1939 to 1943. He also worked for Francoeur-Gill for many years. He was a plumber and pipefitter by trade and was a member of Local 131 Retirees Association.

Mr. Valley was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Church.

He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1670.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth (Tracy) Valley of Laconia; a daughter, Gail DeLucca of Laconia; a stepson, Gary Poisson of Michigan; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Regis Vallee of Laconia and Hector Vallee of Arizona; a sister, Betty White of Franklin; and many nephews and nieces.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Theresa (Poisson) Valley, who died in 1987.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, Feb. 3, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Church, Lakeport. The Rev. George Soberick, pastor of the church, will officiate.

Spring burial will be held in the family lot in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Health & Hospice Inc., 780 North Main St., Laconia, NH 03246 or to Our Lady of the Lakes Church, 50 Washington St., Lakeport, NH 03246.

John K. Brackley Sr.

WINNISQUAM - John K. Brackley Sr., 56, of 19 Courtesy Ave., Winnisquam, died on Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Lakes Region General Hospital.

Mr. Brackley was born May 22, 1945 in Boston, Mass., the son of Kenneth and Helen E. (Thompson) Brackley. He had been a resident of the Lakes Region for most of his life.

Mr. Brackley had been employed as a molder at Freudenberg-NOK for nine years, retiring in 1999 due to health problems. He formerly was employed by Concrete Construction Inc. of Laconia.

He was a volunteer firefighter for 26 years between Winnisquam, New Hampton and Lakeport stations. He enjoyed camping, fishing and gardening.

Survivors include his companion, Linda White of Winnisquam; two sons, John K. Brackley Jr. and his wife Erica and Jason M. Brackley, all of Virginia Beach, Va.

He will be greatly missed by all those he leaves behind.

Calling hours will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia.

A funeral service will be held Friday, April 5, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, using the Carriage House entrance. The Rev. George Hankins-Hull, spiritual care coordinator of Lakes Region General Hospital, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent dePaul Society, PO Box 6123, Lakeport, NH 03247; the Winnisquam Fire Department, PO Box 192, Winnisquam, NH 03289; or Community Health & Hospice Inc., 780 No. Main St., Laconia, NH 03246.

Diane M. Olson

TILTON - Mrs. Diane M. Olson, 58, of 7 North Windy Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002.

Mrs. Olson was born Nov. 15, 1943, in Cambridge, Mass. She resided in Concord for several years before moving to Tilton 10 years ago. She was an assistant librarian at the Hall Memorial Library in Northfield.

Mrs. Olson loved reading, music, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, Stefan Olson of Tilton; two daughters, Angela Griffin of North Attleboro, Mass., and Robin Davison of Manchester; four grandchildren, Christopher Davison and Jason Davison, both of Manchester, and Sarah Griffin and Lauren Griffin, both of N. Attleboro, Mass.; her mother, Jeannette (Bretagne) O’Brien of Tilton; and many cousins.

There will be no calling hours.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia. George Hankins Hull, chaplain at the Lakes Region General Hospital, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hall Memorial Library, 18 Park St., Northfield, NH 03276.

Helen L. Clemons

LACONIA - Mrs. Helen L. Clemons, 84, of 25 Union Ave., died at the Hospice House in Concord on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002.

Mrs. Clemons was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Andrew and Gladys (Lay) Chambers.

She was an elementary school teacher for the Bartlett School District for several years before moving to Laconia in 1956. During her years in Bartlett, she was an adult advisor to the local 4-H.

Mrs. Clemons was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Laconia. She was a member of the United Alliance of Laconia and a member of the Golden Ages. She also was a Red Cross volunteer.

Survivors include one daughter, Pamela Keith, and two sons, James Clemons and Donald Paul Clemons, all of Freedom; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Elm Street, Freedom.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Concord VNA-Hospice House, PO Box 1797, Concord, NH 03302-1797.

Steven F. Rich

LACONIA - Steven F. Rich, 47, of 867 Weirs Boulevard, died at his home on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002.

Mr. Rich was born June 15, 1955, in Beverly, Mass., the son of Francis R. and Emily A. (Karpitch) Rich. He graduated from Merrimack College in Andover, Mass., and was a manager for Stop and Shop for 25 years, retiring in 1999.

Mr. Rich enjoyed traveling and skiing.

Survivors include a daughter, Lauren A. Rich of Danvers, Mass.; his mother, Emily Rich of Gilford; a sister, Kristine R. McLavey of Merrimack; and two nieces. He was predeceased by his father, Francis R. Rich.

There will be no calling hours.

A funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
