Elfriede A. Derey

Elfriede A. Derey, 77, of onway, died December 26, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway after a long-standing illness. She was full of life and was enjoyed by all the people she touched. In 1957 she and her daughter, Elizabeth, immigrated to the United States from Vienna, Austria where she was born and where she survived the hardships of World War II. Most of her life she lived in the Baltimore area, but two years ago she moved to Conway to be close to her daughter and family.
The family includes her daughter, Elizabeth Harrow of Madison; a son, Alexander Koss of Ellicott City, Md.; two grandchildren, Christina E. Harrow of Madison and Alexander Koss III of Ellicott City, Md.; a sister, Ingeborg Weisser of Phoenix, Ariz.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was buried in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Baltimore, Md. The Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway is in charge of local arrangements.

Ruth H. Dyer

BRIDGTON, Maine - Ruth H. Dyer, 88, of West Bridgton, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at the Bridgton Health Care Center. She was born in Naples, the daughter of James and Cora Brackett Mains and was educated in Naples schools. She had lived in Bridgton for many years and was a member of the East Fryeburg Grange.
Her husband, Shirley W. Dyer died in 1964. She is survived by three sons, Donald R. Dyer, Sr. of Windham, David A. Dyer of Bridgton and Kenneth P. Dyer of Portland; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Naples Village Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.

George E. Ingraham

LOVELL, Maine - George E. Ingraham, 86, of Christian Hill Road in Lovell, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center.
He was born in Portland, the son of George and Elizabeth Martin Ingraham. He graduated from Portland High School, class of 1936, and Bryant & Stratton School of Business, Boston, Mass., class of 1939. Mr. Ingraham entered the Army in 1942, held the rank of captain and served in the European Theater during World War II, earning five combat stars. In 1950 he was recalled to service and served in the Korean conflict.
Mr. Ingraham returned to Maine and settled in the Fryeburg-Lovell area. He owned and operated Fryeburg Builders Supply Co., and was a partner in the Fryeburg Oil Co. He also worked for Aeronautical Icing Research Labs in Intervale; Watertown Arsenal in Watertown, Mass.; Diamond International Corp., School Administration District 72; and Severance Lodge Club in Lovell. He was a member of the Kiwanis and the Fryeburg-Lovell VFW.
His first wife, Dorothy Parker Ingraham, died in 1970.
He is survived by his wife Marcia Bell Hurd Ingraham, of Lovell; one sister, Doris Foley, of Portland; two stepsons, Jeffery Hurd, of Cundys Harbor, and Herbert Hurd, of Fryeburg; one stepdaughter, Lynn Sanborn, of Fryeburg; nine step grandchildren; and two step great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, at 2 p.m. at the Fryeburg-Lovell VFW Hall in Lovell, with the Rev. Violet Eastman officiating. Burial will be in the Veterans Cemetery, August.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Fryeburg-Lovell VFW Post, c/o Charles Lewis, HCR 68 Box 84, Fryeburg, Maine 04037, or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 346, Augusta, Maine 04332.

Paul C. Seavey

BROWNFIELD - Paul C. Seavey, 79, of Fryeburg Road, died January 1, 2001, after a long illness in Zephyrhills, Fla. at the vacation home of his daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and James Chandler.
Seavey was born on November 16, 1921 in Brownfield, a son of Willis H. and Gladys Brown Seavey. He attended Bean Memorial Hospital in Brownfield.
He was wounded while serving in the U.S. Army during World War II.
In 1937 after his father's death, Seavey left school and went to work for the Maine Central Railroad-Hiram Division for many years. He then worked in a sawmill, and also worked in horse logging and cattle and poultry farming for Roger Dunn of Brownfield. Later, Seavey owned and operated his own poultry farm in Brownfield, until the economy forced him out of business. He then worked on road construction for Hinman Corp. of Portland and Rossi Corp. of Littleton. He later drove school busses for the Fryeburg School System. He was also a mechanic for Fryeburg Academy and Churchill Motors of Kezar Falls. With his wife, Seavey left Brownfield for a few years to work as a chauffeur at Butler and Maid of Woods Hole, Mass. His last job was at Yield House of North Conway, which he left in 1985 due to declining health.
In the last 12 years of Seavey's life, he enjoyed gardening and selling his produce at his roadside stand. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, potatoes, dried beans and peas were a few of his most famous fruits and vegetables. Even this past summer when he was unable to work, his former customers and friends still stopped by to say hello.
He attended Brownfield Community Church, was a member of the Brownfield Historical Society, a 42-member of the Hiram VFW, a life member of the Portland DAV and a life member of the local American Legion. He was also member and past master of Shepherd River Masonic Lodge 169 of Brownfield and a brother of the Stone Chapter Order of the Eastern Star of Brownfield.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent the last seven winters in Zephyrhills, Fla.
He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Boynton Seavey; a son, Ronald Willis Seavey and a sister, Norma Noble.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Virginia and James Chandler of Fryeburg and Pauline and Robert Burke of Gray; one son and daughter-in-law, Milton H. and Darlene Seavey of Brownfield; one daughter-in-law, Lynda Seavey of Brownfield; 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one very dear friend and caregiver, Rita M. Ross of Limington.
A memorial service will be held in the spring at Neal & York Funeral Home in Kezar Falls. Donations may be made to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Inc., East Pasco, 7066 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills, Fla. 33541.

Miriam L. 'Mim' Regan

Miriam L. "Mim" Regan, 78, of Intervale, died on March 30, 1999 at The Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a short illness. She was born in East Boston, Mass., the daughter of Cornelius and Louise Leary Regan.

Ms. Regan lived in Winthrop, Mass. for 15 years prior to moving to Intervale in 1978. She graduated from the Boston Academy of Notre Dame, class of 1937, and Regis College, class of 1941. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in Education at State College in Boston, Mass. in 1950. Ms. Regan was a U.S.O. Club Director in San Diego, Calif. during World War II, and worked as a home economics teacher in the Boston, Mass. school system for over 30 years. She was also a past president of the Boston Home Economics Teacher's Association.

She was a former member of the Massa-Schussers Ski Club in Glen for 20 years, and a member of the North Conway Country Club for over 25 years, as well as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. She was an avid golfer and skier.

Her family includes two brothers, Donald A. Regan of Winthrop, Mass. and Herbert G. Regan of Westwood, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Visiting hours will be on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home, in North Conway. Donations in Ms. Regan's memory may be made to the North Conway Library, North Conway, NH 03860 or to the Our Lady of the Mountains Building Fund, P.O. Box 189, North Conway, NH 03860.

Doris Tait Mann

Doris Tait Mann, 76, of Tamworth, died March 31, 1999 at Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro. She was born in Medford, Mass. where she attended local schools. Doris later graduated from beautician school in Boston, Mass. before moving to North Reading, Mass. where she lived for 23 years with her late husband, James Mann.

Mrs. Mann moved to Tamworth in 1971. She loved crafts and was a member of the Bearcamp Valley Sportsman Club, Tamworth.

Her family includes a daughter, Karren Johnson of Tamworth; four grandchildren, Tammy Johnson of Rochester, Kim Johnson of Tamworth, Kriste Johnson of Rochester and Glenn E. Johnson, Jr. of Tamworth.

There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Reed Cemetery, Tamworth.

Donations in Mrs. Mann's memory may be made to Hospice of Southern Carroll County, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH 03894 or the Tamworth Community Nurses Association, Tamworth, NH 03886.

Arrangements are by Lord Funeral Home of Center Ossipee.

Roger Freeman French

Roger Freeman French, formerly of Wellesley, Mass., died suddenly on March 18, 1999.
He graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with high distinction in 1944, and from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration in 1950.

During World War II, he was Radar and Communications Officer, Lieut. j.g. on the submarine Redfish.

His engineering career spanned several generations and included patented inventions in the microwave and solar energy fields. While at Raytheon, he developed microwave applications for home use. He continued to develop microwave cooking technology at Servodyne, a corporation he founded. Later in his career, he developed a completely passive solar hot water system.

Taking early retirement, he devoted himself to environmental issues. His foremost accomplishment was leading the successful effort to protect the Wildcat River in Jackson as a nationally designated wild and Scenic River. Mr. French lived in Jackson for a number of years. He served as an active member of numerous environmental organizations, including the Wildcat River Advisory Committee, the Connecticut River Joint Commissions, and the Hanover, N.H. Conservation Commission, as well as chairing the Jackson Conservation Commission.

Mr. French was also a member of SCORE in the upper valley of New Hampshire and North Conway, where he was chair.

His family includes his wife, three children, and three grandchildren. Burial will take place at the family grave in Albany, New York.

Russell A. Wagstaff

Russell A. Wagstaff, 77, of North Conway, died on March 25, 1999 at the Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine, Florida following a sudden illness. He was born in Needham, Mass. and was the son of Joseph and Lillian MacWilliams Wagstaff.

Mr. Wagstaff grew up in Dover, Mass. and lived in Squantum, Mass. for 19 years, Hingham, Mass. for 7-8 years, and in Bedford for 18 years prior to moving to North Conway in 1996. From 1948-1959, he was a partner in establishing the former Smalley and Wagstaff of Boston, Mass., a wool brokerage firm, after which he was Vice President and General Manager of European Engineering Corp., an automobile dealership in Belmont, Mass. from 1959-1961. Mr. Wagstaff also worked as a sales representative, first for Premier Dental Products in Norriston, Pa. from 1961-1966, and then for S.S. White Dental Products International of Philadelphia, Pa. from which he retired.

He was a United States Coast Guard Veteran of World War II, a member and former commander of the Boston, Mass. Wool Trade American Legion Post, and an avid golfer and bridge player.

His family includes his wife of 50 years, Jane Larson Wagstaff of North Conway; a son, Mark Wagstaff of Conway; two grandchildren, Erik Wagstaff of Orford and Nicole Wrobleski of Conway; a brother, Joseph R. Wagstaff of Hingham, Mass.; a sister, Emily A. Wagstaff of North Hollywood, Calif.; and his niece and nephew.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Conway United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Wesley E. Palmer officating. Burial will be in the Mt. Wollaston Cemetery, in Quincy, Mass. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home, North Conway. Donations may be sent to the North Conway Fire Department, P.O. Box 218, North Conway, NH, 03860.

Emrik E. Nylund

Emrik E. Nylund, 95, died peacefully at home on March 24, 1999. He lived with his daughter, Karen Gibson, in Bartlett. He was born June 11, 1903 and emigrated from Harkmeri, Finland in 1927.

He firste settled in western Canada, where he worked in mining and logging camps before coming to the U.S. in 1940. He married Dorothy Platt in 1947 in Detroit, Michigan, where they lived for 47 years. He worked for Burroughs Corporation for many years and retired in 1968.

Emrik was noted for his sense of humor, positive outlook on life, and kindness to the people around him.

\He was predeceased by his wife in 1994. His family includes a son, Eric Nylund of Bayfield, Colorado; a daughter, Karen Gibson of Bartlett; and a granddaughter, Cori Nyland-Southern of Red Hook, New York.

A private memorial service with the Rev. Susan Jepson will be held at Karen Gibson's home on Sunday, March 28. Contributions can be made to local organizations which provide services to enable elderly people to remain in their homes.

Beulah M. Blake

Beulah M. Blake, 86, of Bridgton, Maine, died Wednesday, March 24, 1999 at the Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton, following a lifelong battle against asthma.
She was born in Brownfield, Maine on August 22, 1912, the daughter of George and Nettie Lord Walker. She graduated from the old Bean Memorial High School in Brownfield and hairdressing school in Portland.

For many years Mrs. Blake commuted from Fryeburg to Bridgton where she was a beautician at Marion's Beauty Parlor. She continued working there after she and her husband moved from Fryeburg to Bridgton in 1941. In 1951 she opened her own beauty salon at her home in North High Street and retired in 1977. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed sewing, cooking, fishing with her husband, and playing card games.

She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Clifford Blake, in 1997.
Her family includes two daughters, Judith Blake of Bridgton, Maine, Elizabeth Benway of South Freeport, Maine; two grandchildren, Christopher and Cathryn Benway; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on May 13 at 11 a.m. at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Brownfield, Maine, with the Rev. Fred Lee officiating.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory for the purchase of an oxymeter for the use in the Bridgton area, Communty Health Services, 107 South High Street, Bridgton, ME 04009.

Arrangements are by the Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.
