Frances Adrienne Bisson
LACONIA - Frances Adrienne Bisson died at the Lakes Region General Hospital on July 29, 2001, the eve of her 89th birthday anniversary following a short illness.
She was born in Laconia, the only child of Charles and Agnes (McLeod) Shastany, on July 30, 1912.
Mrs. Bisson was a longtime communicant and member of the Ladies Guild of St. Joseph Church in Laconia.
She attended St. John Parochial School and graduated from Laconia High School with the Class of 1930; then she studied nursing at the Laconia Hospital School of Nursing and later became a Corporator of that hospital (now Lakes Region General Hospital) and of the Taylor Home.
On Sept. 14, 1936, she married Reginald Bisson, also of this city. During their early years of marriage, she and her husband lived briefly in Berlin and Manchester. During World War II she remained in Laconia while her husband served as an Army Officer overseas. After the war, they stayed in Laconia to raise their growing family.
Adrienne and Reg flew with the Belknap Aero Club in the mid 1930s. During World War II she was active in the "Yule Do" Club, making Christmas presents for overseas GIs or their families. As her children grew, she wholeheartedly supported their activities, ranging from being a Cub Scout den mother to being an active booster for the Laconia High School debate team, newspaper, marching band, science club and yearbook. While her children were growing up her home was filled with living things, many of them collected by her children such as dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, squirrels, white mice, guinea pigs, snakes, tadpoles - and an array of plants, all of which thrived under her gentle nurture. During the past 25 years, she loved to take long scenic rides with her husband and family, and took great pleasure in never returning home by the same road that they had departed upon. She had a lively curiosity about the world, and natural phenomena were an endless source of delight for her - clouds, thunderstorms, autumn colors, rainbows, butterflies, snowflakes. "I’ve never seen such a beautiful sunset!" was often her favorite expression at the end of the day.
She is survived by and sorely missed by her husband; her four children, William Bisson of Portland, Maine, Elizabeth Kingsley of Saugus, Mass., Robert Bisson of Alexandria, Va., and John F. Bisson of Laconia; also six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
