Sandra Small-Allbright
LEE - Sandra Leigh Small-Allbright, 43, of Glenmere Road, died Monday, March 25, 2002, at her home in Lee.
Born March 25, 1959, in Salem, Mass., she was a 1978 graduate of Lynn English High School and was raised in Lynn, Mass. Since 1983 she had resided in Lee.
She was a teacher’s aide at the Newmarket Junior/Senior High School, and was the junior varsity girls’ soccer coach in 1995.
She was also a waitress at Newick’s Restaurant in Dover.
Sandra attended the Durham Evangelical Church.
Survivors include her father, Ralph Small and his wife Ruth of Palm Bay, Fla.; her mother, Barbara E. Small of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; her husband, Scott Allbright of Lee; a daughter, Cristine Marie Johnson of Lee; a son, Bryan Randall Johnson of Lee; a brother, Stephen Small of Lee; two sisters, Susan Mary Hart of Merrimac, Mass., and Deborah Ann Small of Salem, Mass.;and four nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Dianne Lynn Small, in 1990.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the Durham Evangelical Church, Route 108, Durham.
Private burial will take place at the convenience of the family in Lee Hill Cemetery, Lee.
Flowers are acceptable or should friends desire memorials may be made to the Society for the Preservation of New Hampshire Forests or the Lamprey River Conservation Commission.
Margarita Stearns
HANOVER - Margarita (Rossy Parry) Stearns, 83, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at Hanover Terrace after a long illness.
She was born in Stamford, Conn., the daughter of Cecilio and Marjorie (Sawyer) Rossy, and grew up in Gardner, Mass. She was the great-granddaughter of Puerto Rican painter Francisco Oller y Cestero.
A resident of Massachusetts nearly all her life, she lived in Quincy for 35 years until moving to New Hampshire in 1998.
She graduated from Boston University, earned a master’s degree from Boston State College and resumed her studies later in life at the University of Massachusetts in Boston and Amherst.
The author of several short stories, including the children’s story, Patches, Stearns worked for Little, Brown Publishing Co. and Yankee Communications. She also worked for the Massachusetts Department of Welfare and taught at Chamberlain Junior College.
She was a member of the Quincy YMCA for more than 30 years, enjoyed swimming, walking and helping others.
Survivors include one son, David Parry of Charlestown, Mass.; two daughters, Frances Burnham of Cohasset, Mass., and Susan Stearns of Sanbornton; two stepsons, R. Bruce Stearns of Plano, Texas, and Robert Stearns of Watertown, Mass.; one stepdaughter, Kathryn Oakes of Peoria, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-stepgrandson.
Her husband of 41 years, Richard Stearns, died in 1991. Her son, Christopher Stearns of Quincy, Mass. died in 1979, and her daughter, Myra T. Adams of Charlestown, Mass., died in 1995.
A service of memory and celebration will be held at Christ Church, Quincy, MA on May 23 at 10 a.m.

John P. Dowie
TILTON - John Pelly Dowie, 82, of 426 West Main St. in Tilton, died at his home Tuesday, April 30, 2002, following a short illness.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., July 17, 1919, son of James R. and Miriam (Pelly) Dowie. He schooled in New York and attended technical school there with courses in auto mechanics.
He and his brother owned and operated a boat yard in Long Island, N.Y., before he moved to Franklin in 1950. He had resided in the Franklin, Northfield and Tilton area for the past 52 years. He owned and operated Johnny Dowie’s Sunoco and Service Station in Franklin. He later worked at the Arwood Corp. in Northfield, retiring after 25 years. He later retired from the State of New Hampshire, working as an attendant in the rest area in Sanbornton.
He was a member of the American Legion, Post #49 in Northfield, a mason of Doric Lodge #78, F. & A.M. in Tilton, and a former member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks, BPOE 1280.
Mr. Dowie served as a member of the Tilton-Northfield School Board, and was active with the New Hampshire Conservative Union.
He spent many hours taping years of his favorite music to cassettes.
Mr. Dowie served as a Tech 5th Grade Radar Operator with the U.S. Army during World War II in Co. B 574th SIG, AW, BN. He was in New Guinea and Southern Philippines, and received several decorations and citations.
He was predeceased by a brother, James Dowie of Florida.
His family includes his wife of 55 years, M. Jean (Anderssen) Dowie of Tilton; a son, J. Douglas Dowie of Gilford; four daughters, Barbara J. Nobrega of Pembroke, Nancy J. Kulus of Enfield, Doris A. Nisbet of Sanbornton, and Doreen J. Sexton of Lynchburg, Va.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Miriam Allen of Seaford, Long Island, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
John was known for his keen sense of humor.
Calling hours will be Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Home with Pastor John Spring, Epsom Bible Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery in Tilton where honors will be offered by members of Post #49.

Alice E. Robinson
MEREDITH - Alice E. (Clapper) Wise Robinson, 100, of 18 Boynton Road, died Wednesday morning, May 1, 2002, at the Golden View Health Care Center, Meredith.
She was born June 11, 1901, in Richmond Furnace, Mass., the daughter of Nelson A. and Susan (Stone) Clapper. She moved to North Woodstock in 1905, and later to Meredith in 1917, where she resided most of her life.
In her youth, she worked in the spinning room at the Meredith Linen Mill. She later owned and operated a chicken farm with her husband, and later worked as a housekeeper at the Center Harbor Girl School and also for Dr. Ann Tomkins Gibson.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Meredith and belonged to its Unity Club. She was also a member of the Pocohontas Lodge of Meredith.
She was the wife of 40 years of Addison "Dick" Wise, who died in 1962, and also was the wife of the late Stanley M. Robinson, who died in 1975.
She is survived by her sister, Etta G. Dame of Lakeport; two stepdaughters, Dot Von Fricken of Farmington and Helen Morin of Dover; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, William Clapper and Walter Clapper, by three sisters, Harriet Paquette, Bessie Murphy and Blanche Weeks.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 4, at noon in Meredith Village Cemetery, Meredith, with the Rev. Michael Graham, pastor of the Gilford Community Church, officiating.
The Dewhirst Funeral Home, 1061 Union Ave., Laconia, is in charge of the arrangements.
Wayne B. Shaw
FRANKLIN - Wayne B. Shaw, 56, died at Lakes Region General Hospital May 1, 2002 after a period of failing health.
He was born in Plymouth March 24, 1946, the son of Harold Shaw and Eleanor Whitman Shaw Fletcher. Mr. Shaw had lived in the Franklin area for many years.
He worked for Oak Laminates, retiring due to failing health.
He was a member of the Franklin Elks Lodge 1280.
He is survived by one daughter, Ginny Weatherbee of Northfield; one son, Bruce Shaw of Seattle, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Barbara Cross of Northfield and Angela Smith of Franklin; three grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; one sister, Evalyn Sylvester of Franklin, and one brother, Richard Shaw of Franklin.
Mr. Shaw was predeceased by one brother, Phillip Shaw, who died in 2001.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 4, at 2 p.m. in Green Grove Cemetery, Ashland. The Rev. Everett Palmer will officiate.

Alfio C. Faro
BRISTOL - Spring committal services will be held for Alfio C. Faro on Saturday, May 4, at 11 a.m. at the Homeland Cemetery, Bristol. Arrangements are under the direction of Emmons Funeral Home of Bristol.
Robert L. Porter
EL CAJON, Calif. - Robert "Bobby" Leo Porter, 57, died on April 24, 2002 at Grossmont Hospital, the result of a stroke suffered on April 14, 2002.
He was born July 26, 1944, and raised in Laconia.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1964. After returning from the service, he made his home in El Cajon, Calif., where he worked for many years as a mason. He also enjoyed working with wood, making things to share with his friends and family. He loved spending his free time with friends in the desert or at the river.
He is survived by four sisters, Terry Mulligan of Dothan, Ala., Lois Annis of Gilford, Lorraine Deforge of Belmont and Bonnie Herlihy of Gilmanton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
All who knew him will miss him dearly. Bobby’s final resting place will be at home in Laconia. Memorials in Bobby’s honor may be made to the Southern California Special Olympics.
Charles F. Perkins
MEREDITH - A graveside service, for Charles F. Perkins who died on Dec. 14, 2001, will be held in the Alexander Cemetery in Bow on Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. William Keefe will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Griggs-Wyatt American. Legion Post #33, Plymouth St., Meredith, NH 03253. The Mayhew Funeral Home in Meredith is in charge of the arrangements.
