William B. "Brad" Huddleston Sr.
NORTH CONWAY William B. "Brad" Huddleston Sr., 88, died Nov. 3, 2000, at the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in North Conway after a short illness.
He was born in Boston, Mass., on May 15, 1912, the son of William C. and Anna W. (Peterson) Huddleston. He attended Boston schools and was a graduate of Lowell Institute. He worked as a safety engineer for Liberty Mutual in Manchester, NH, Hartford, Conn., and Buffalo, NY, retiring after 35 years of service. Some of his fondest memories were servicing the logging operations in northern New Hampshire.
He was a registered professional engineer in New Hampshire and a life member of the American Society of Safety Engineers.
He had a lifelong love of music. He played with the Buffalo Banjo Band, sang in church choirs and arranged music for the banjo. He also enjoyed shooting at the Tonawanda (NY) Sportsman's Club. He was active in several Episcopal churches, service as vestryman, warden and music director. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in North Conway. He was also a 50-year member of Washington Masonic Lodge No. 61 F&AM in Manchester.
He moved to North Conway in September 1992 and resided at Pinewood Apartments for several years before living with his son in Chocorua.
The family includes his son, William B. Huddleston Jr., and his wife, Peg, of Chocorua; a grandson, Carl Huddleston, of Chocorua; a granddaughter, Barbara Morgan, of Deering; and five great-grandchildren.
His wife, Marjorie, predeceased him in 1986.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Christ Church Episcopal, with the Rev. Jack Haney, rector, officiating.

Phillip Gordon Rand
ELKHART, Ind. - Phillip Gordon Rand, 65, of Elkhart, Indiana, died Nov. 4, 2000, at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 5, 1934, in Meredith, NH, the son of Roger O. and Isabel (Gordon) Rand. He was a senior staff chemist at Environmental Testing Systems for the past five years, and he previously was employed by Miles Laboratories for 27 years.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Magouirk, of Elkhart, Ind.; a daughter, Mrs. Scott (Brenda) Johnson, of Elkhart; two sons, Bruce Rand, of Naples, Fla., and Steven Rand, of Elkhart, Ind.; granddaughters Madeline and Abigail Johnson, of Elkhart; a grandson, Michael Rand, of Naples, Fla; his mother, Isabel Rand, of Vernon, Vt.; and sisters Mrs. Stanley (Hazel) Hall and Janice Rand, both of New Hampshire.
Services will be held in Indiana.
Patrick Soriano Jr.
FREEDOM - Patrick Soriano Jr., 45, of Freedom and formerly of Saugus, Mass., died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000.
He was the son of Patrick and Carmella (D'Amore) Soriano, of Saugus, Mass. He was born in Boston and raised in Saugus. He was a 1972 graduate of Saugus High School. He was employed with Norgate Telephone Corp. In the early 1970s, Mr. Soriano taught hockey at the Hockey Ranch in Ontario, Canada.
Besides his parents, he leaves one sister, Beverly Soriano, of Waltham, Mass.
Funeral will be Wednesday at 8 a.m. at the Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home, 549 Lincoln Ave., in Saugus, Mass., followed at 9 a.m. by a funeral mass in St. Margaret's Church in Saugus. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Saugus, Mass.

Johannes C. Dries Jr.
CONWAY - Johannes C. Dries Jr., 71, of Conway, died Oct. 31, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway after a brief illness. Born in Jersey City, N.J., the son of Johannes and Adrina Dries Sr., he had been a lifelong resident of Jersey City before moving to Conway in 1993.
Dries graduated from Jersey City public schools, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He had been employed by the Jersey City Police Department for 37 years, prior to retiring in 1993.
He was a life member of Ralph W. Shirley American Legion Post 46 in Conway; a member of Eastern Slope Lodge 2055 B.P.O.E. in Conway; a member of the Knights of Columbus in Jersey City; and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police in Jersey City.
His family includes his wife, Bozena Ferencei-Dries of Conway; his daughter-in-law, Joanna Dries of Toms River, N.J.; a granddaughter, Dvon Marie Dries of Toms River, N.J.; a stepdaughter, Paula Schafer of Hiram, Ga.; a stepson, Richard Ferencei of Keansburg, N.J.; four step-grandchildren, Nicole and Candice Schafer of Hiram, Ga., and Kalina and Adam Ferencei of Keansburg, N.J.; several nieces and nephews. His son, Johannes C. Dries III, predeceased him three weeks ago.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. Visiting hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service.
Gerard L. Routhier
CONWAY - Gerard L. Routhier, 72, of Center Conway, died suddenly Oct. 26, 2000, at The Memorial Hospital in North Conway following an ongoing illness.
Born in Berlin, the son of Dewey and Diana (Couture) Routhier, he lived in Montreal, Quebec, for 14 years before moving back to Berlin. Mr. Routhier had recently moved to Center Conway last September from Berlin.
He attended Berlin High School in the early 1940s and then joined the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, he worked for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Secret Service at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Later he attended college for accounting and trichology and soon managed a clinic in Miami, Fla., and Montreal. Later he owned and operated his own private investigation school in Montreal. Prior to partial retirement in 1981 due to illness, he operating a family-owned engraving and awards store in downtown Berlin.
He was known throughout the Northeast for his volunteer services in the Boy Scouts of America, St. Vincent de Paul Society and the New Hampshire Housing Assistance. He was a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and in the Order of the Secular Franciscans.
His family includes his wife of 44 years, Simone (Gervais) Routhier, of Center Conway; two daughters, Diane Boucher, of Center Conway, and Louise Routhier, of Brockton, Mass.; and a son, Ronald Routhier, of Waltham, Mass.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Burial will take place in Our Lady of the Mountains Cemetery. Visiting hours will be today (Monday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
George R. Reuning
CONWAY - George R. Reuning, 78, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at the SunBridge Nursing Home in North Conway after a long illness.
Born in Corning, N.Y. on July 17, 1922, Reuning attended elementary, middle and high school in Elmira, N.Y.
From 1941 until 1945, he served in the Army Air Corps. In 1949, Reuning earned his B.S. degree in accounting at Rider College in Trenton, N.J., and he then went on to work in the bursar's office at Lambertville School. In 1952, he took a position as a partner in a certified public accountant's office. Reuning departed the CPA's firm to take an accounting position with E.I. Dupont Corp., where he remained until the plant's relocation convinced him to search for employment in New England. In 1966, Reuning moved his family to the Mount Washington Valley where he worked for Carroll Reeds Ski Shops until his retirement in 1989.
Active in his church and his community, Reuning served on the Conway School Board for nine years, including three years as chairman.
A gentleman committed to his family, friends and community, he is survived by his wife, Royetta; five sons, Karl, of Rye, Philip, stationed in Germany, Timothy, stationed in Illinois, Scott, of Eliot, Maine, and Damon, of Conway; seven grandchildren, Ariel, Maximillian, Nicola, Kristen, Aryanna, Chance and Zavier.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Route 302, Center Conway, on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be sent in his memory to the Cady Memorial School Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 229, Conway, NH 03818.

Harvey Ralph Knox Sr.
BROWNFIELD - Harvey Ralph Knox Sr., 57, of Kezar Falls Road, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at the Bridgton Hospital following a long illness.
He was born in Sanford, the son of Ralph and Geary Wright Knox, and he graduated from Sanford High School, class of 1961. He was a Vietnam Army veteran. He lived in Shapleigh for several years, and was a U.S. mail carrier in Kennebunk. He moved to Brownfield 12 years ago, where he continued to be a mail carrier. He enjoyed gun shows and rock hunting.
He is survived by his mother, of Shapleigh; his wife of 31 years, Pamela Lee Howard Knox, of Brownfield; four sons, Harvey, R. Knox Jr., of Fryeburg, Vincent E. Knox, of Hiram and Roy J. Knox and Seth A. Knox, both of Brownfield; two daughters, Pamela Buddemeyer, of Cornish and Angela L. Knox, of Hiram; three brothers, Frank Knox, Gary Knox and Leon Knox, of Shapleigh; three sisters, Doris Bemis, of Sanford, Julie Hall, of Springvale, and Gay Weyland of Acton; and four grandchildren.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory may be made to the Fryeburg Rescue at P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, Maine 04037.

Patrick M. Zirpolo
WAKEFIELD - Patrick M. Zirpolo, 48, of Wakefield, died Oct. 28, 2000, at his home after a long illness.
Born Nov. 1, 1951, in Medford, Mass., he was the son of the late Clancy and Lena Zirpolo. He had resided in New Hampshire for 14 years, having previously resided in New Sharon, Maine, and South Dennis, Mass.
A registered nurse, he had been employed with the Visiting Nurses Association/Hospice of Southern Carroll County. A communicant at St. Anthony's Church in Sanbornville, he had been a volunteer at the food pantry in Wakefield.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine A. (McIsaac) Zirpolo, of Wakefield; three daughters, Rebecca A. Zirpolo, of Brookfield, Amy C. Zirpolo, of South Boston, Mass., and Sarah E. Zirpolo, of Wakefield; two grandchildren, Patrick and Catherine Zirpolo; a brother, Peter Von Zirpolo, of Danville; a sister, Paulette DiMartino, of Halifax, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Calling hours are today (Monday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Peaslee Funeral Home, 2079 Wakefield Road, in Sanbornville (Wakefield). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church in Sanbornville, with Father Edmund A. Babicz, pastor, as celebrant.

Bruce N. Ela Sr.
PORTLAND, Maine - Bruce N. Ela Sr., 56, of Deering Avenue in Portland, Maine, died Oct. 17, 2000, at Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Portland, Maine, the son of Gordon E. and Althea Brown Ela, and attended schools in Fryeburg and Hartford, Conn. He worked for his father learning the welding trade, and later owned and operated a tractor-trailer, delivering freight across the country.
He lived and worked in the Conway and Fryeburg areas for many years before moving to Florida, where he worked in sales for an orange juice manufacturer.
Returning to Maine, he worked as a bartender at the Commercial Street Pub in Portland, and was a self-employed welder, working on various commercial fishing vessels on Portland's waterfront.
He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which he had entirely rebuilt.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine Ela of Portland; four sons, Bruce N. Jr. of Conway, Danny of Portland, Christopher of Standish and Jamie of Biddeford; two daughters, Kim Kenny of Westbrook and Evette Smith of Connecticut; a brother, Danny; two sisters, Diane Richardson of Fryeburg and Becky Pelletier of Conway; and 11 grandchildren.
Visiting hours and funeral were held at Hay and Peabody Funeral Home in Portland last weekend with Rev. Philip Shearman officiating. Burial was at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
