Dr. Kenneth E. Dore
FRYEBURG - Dr. Kenneth E. Dore passed away peacefully with family at his bedside on Dec. 16, 2000, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center at the age of 91.
He was born in Auburn, Maine, on May 26, 1909, to Adaline Blanche Tuck and Everett Freeman Dore, graduating from Edward Little High School, Bates College and Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Mass.
Upon completing his residency and internship in 1936 at the Maine General Hospital in Portland, Maine, he married Dorothy Stevens, settled in Fryeburg and opened his general practice in his home. Dorothy was his office assistant, partner and wife for 60 years, preceding him in death in 1996.
Dr. Dore cared for patients in Fryeburg and the surrounding towns in a 30-mile radius, making house calls by jeep, horse-drawn wagon and on snowshoes. He also served as Oxford County Medical Examiner for 35 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Maine and American medical associations' board of medical examiners as well as the Bates College and Tufts University alumni associations. He also was a 32nd-degree Mason and past master of the Pythagorean Lodge AF&AM No. 11 of Fryeburg, as well as an honorary 50-year life member of the Kora Temple Shrine. For many years he served as deacon of the First Congregational Church of Fryeburg, of which he was a life member.
Dr. Dore was an accomplished craftsman in photography, woodworking, gem-stone cutting, jewelry making and leather tooling. He loved to fish and made his own lures and flies. A highlight of his early summers was boating with his family and friends in his vintage "old woody" Chris Craft on Kezar Lake.
After retiring to Melbourne, Fla., in 1972, Dr. and Mrs. Dore traveled by Airstream trailer, seeing much of the USA, Mexico and Canada. He became an amateur musician at the age of 82 and learned to play the clarinet and saxophone to join his wife's dance band.
From childhood he was an accomplished artist, drawing flowers and birds in watercolor, which was his favorite medium.
He loved life and was an amazingly gifted storyteller of the events of his life and practice in Fryeburg. He passed on his love of life to his children, grandchildren and his many friends, with special mention of John and Judy Calley whose dedicated and loyal friendship and support sustained him and Dorothy for many years.
Dr. Dore and family were also deeply grateful to the staff of the Fryeburg Health Care Center, his loving and devoted caretakers since his return to Fryeburg in June.
Dr. Dore is survived by his children, Emily Fletcher and her husband, Peter, of Fryeburg, Ellen Witham and her husband, Wallace, of Belleair Bluffs, Fla., Steven Dore and his wife, Cynthia, of San Jose, Calif., and one foster daughter, Ann L. Palmer, of Gardiner, Maine. Also surviving are his eight grandchildren, Leslie Ellen Fletcher of Jackson, Christopher Fletcher and his wife, Renee, of Manchester, Sarah Hawkins and her husband, Bob, of Madison, Abigail Rogers and her husband, Fred, of Brownfield, Carrie Adaline Fletcher of Portland, Karen Lynch and her husband, Andrew, of Framingham, Mass., and Molly and Adaline Dore of North Conway.
A memorial service will be held at the Pine Grove Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are by Wood's Funeral Home of Fryeburg.
Anthony E. Butler
Anthony E. Butler, 38, of 126 Main Street in North Conway, died suddenly at this residence on December 6, 2000.
He was born in Providence, R.I. on July 24, 1962, the son of the late Edward and Beverly Butler, Sr., and had been residing in Conway. He was employed as a bartender with American Skiing Company.
Family members include his brother, Edward Butler of North Conway; a sister, Debbie Butler of Rhode Island; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
There will be no calling hours and services will be private at the convenience of the family.
The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.
Florence E. Flint
LACONIA - Florence E. Flint, 72, of 406 Court Street in Laconia, died on Dec. 12, 2000, at the John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz.
Miss Flint was born on Nov. 21, 1928 in North Conway, the daughter of Lawrence B. and Margie (Abbott) Flint. She was a high school business education teacher for 20 years for the North Middlesex School District in Townsend, Mass. She also taught overseas in Newfoundland, Japan and The Azores. She retired in 1989 after 40 years of teaching. She lived in Milford for many years before moving to Laconia in May of 1997.
Miss Flint was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was a member and a past master of the Granite Grange of Milford and the Brookline Grange of Brookline, N.H. and the Hillsboro County Pomona Grange 1. She was a member of the Rebekahs and a past president of the Rebekah Assembly of New Hampshire and assistant guardian of the International Association of Rebekah Assembly, receiving the Decoration of Chivalry. She also was a member and past president of Theta Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, a former member of the Lakes Region Retired Educators and the New Hampshire Retired Educators.
Survivors include a sister, Lois F. Plimpton of Laconia; three nephews, Jonathon Plimpton, Stephen Plimpton and Paul Plimpton; two grandnieces and two grandnephews.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2238 Parade Road, Laconia. Spring burial will be in the family lot in Jackson Cemetery, Jackson.

Lewis Prouty Bissell
JACKSON - Lewis Prouty Bissell, 82, of Jackson, died on Dec. 10, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in North Conway after a period of failing health.
Bissell was born on April 27, 1918, in Medford, Mass., the son of the late Paul and Geraldine (Prouty) Bissell. He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, where he met and later married his wife. He then attended Yale University, where he received a master's in forestry. He was a U.S. veteran who served in the Army Air Corps. during World War II.
Before retirement, Bissell was employed by the University of Maine as the extension forester for the state of Maine. He was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, Old Hutmen's Association, Jackson Historical Society, New Hampshire Forestry Foundation, The Mount Washington Observatory, White Mountain Interpretive Association, Kiwanis, UNH Alumni Association, Girl Scouts and the Tree Farm Association. He spent his retirement years volunteering throughout the Mount Washington Valley, particularly in areas relating to conservation. For a period of time, he served as conductor of the Conway Scenic Railroad, fulfilling a lifelong passion for trains, which came second only to his love of antique automobiles.
Family members include his wife of over 50 years, Priscilla (Emery) Bissell; two daughters, Susan Beechum of Orlando, Fla., and Nancy Rancourt of Bartlett; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one sister, Liza Carroll of Madison, Conn.; one niece and one nephew.
The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy R. Swett
Dorothy R. Swett, 83, of Milton, died Dec. 10, 2000, at the Riverside Rest Home in Dover after a long illness.
Born in North Conway, the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Sargent) Robertson, she lived in Bolton, Mass., for several years and in Haverhill, Mass., for six years. She moved back to North Conway for six years before moving to Milton in 1948.
Mrs. Swett graduated from Clinton (Mass.) High School, class of 1936.
She was a member of the Milton Community Church, a member of the Milton Women's Club and the Women's Union, and she was a member of the Milton Young at Heart Group.
Her main focus on life was family, home and community.
The family includes three daughters, Mary Anne Moulton of Milton, Geraldine Littler of Plymouth, Mass., and Susan Reams of Lebanon, Maine; a son, Frederick K. Swett of White River Junction, Vt.; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Dewing of ElCajon, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Alfred E. Swett, predeceased her last May, and her brother, Albert Robertson, predeceased her in 1996.
Privates graveside services will be held in the North Conway Cemetery in the spring. There will be no visiting hours.

Norma P. Stimson
Norma P. Stimson, 78, of Conway, died Dec. 9, 2000, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland following a brief illness.
Born in Center Harbor, the daughter of Clarence and Maude (Moulton) Nichols, she lived in Laconia for a couple of years before moving to Conway in 1946. Mrs. Stimson graduated from Meredith High School.
She worked at the former Stone the Druggist in Conway for several years as a clerk and bookkeeper. She also was a bookkeeper at the former Stimson's Garage in Conway for 15 years prior to retiring in 1992.
She had been a member of the Conway Women's Club.
The family includes her husband of 56 years, Gordon L. Stimson, of Conway; two sons, Daniel C. Stimson, of Conway, and Dennis C. Stimson and his wife, Linda, of Baldwinsville, NY; a daughter, Diana C. O'Toole and her husband, Kenneth, of Tewksbury, Mass.; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Conway Village Congregational Church, with the Rev. Alfred J. Gagnon III, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Conway Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be today, Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Jane Borland Morrison
Jane Borland Morrison passed away on Dec. 8, 2000, in Waltham, Mass., at the age of 85.
She was born in Monongahela, Pa., on March 6, 1915, to Charles Diehl Borland and Elsie McCoy Borland. She went to school in Monongahela and went on to Carnegie Tech University where she studied art, and the Pennsylvania Museum School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia.
On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Dr. John L. Morrison, and they eventually settled in Waltham, Mass., where they lived the rest of their lives. They summered in their home in West Ossipee.
Jane was an accomplished artist, with landscapes and seascapes in oil being her favorite motifs. She was also an avid photographer, winning many competitions for her inspiring photographs. She volunteered countless hours at The Waltham Hospital Thrift Shop, where she was known for her kindness, generosity and wonderful sense of humor. She always had a good joke and would always say that as long as you had your sense of humor, things would be okay. Jane was also an avid bridge player who was hard to beat. She always had a book to read, and she passed on her love of reading to her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Copley Society, the Lexington Art Guild, the Waltham Camera Club and also the Twinbrook Camera Club. Active in neighborhood and her children's activities, she was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader and also belonged to The Piety Corner Club and would often amaze members with her Halloween costumes at the yearly party. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother to her family.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. John L. Morrison, and their four children, John Morrison and his wife Mary-Anne of Arlington, Mass., Charles Morrison of Scarborough, Maine, Jane Morrison Davidson and her husband Rick of Freedom, and Tom Morrison and his wife Bettina of Abtsgmuend, Germany. Her grandchildren are Benjamin and Elizabeth Morrison, of Arlington, Mass., Jesse Morrison of Cambridge, Mass., Johanna, Gretchen and Heidi Davidson of Freedom, and Katharina and and Daniel Morrison of Germany. She is also survived by her brother, William Borland of Maryland, and nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her twin brother, Charles Borland, and her sister, Virginia Hill.

Frances C. McAllister
CHATHAM - Frances C. McAllister, 78, of North Chatham, died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at the Maine Medical Center.
She was born in North Windham, the daughter of Henry and Gladys Mayberry Shaw, and was educated in Windham and Sweden schools. She has lived in Chatham most of her life and worked a short time for the House of Color. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and being a homemaker.
Her husband, Orman A. McAllister Sr., died in 1998.
She is survived by three sons, Robert O. McAllister of Skowhegan, and Wayne A. McAllister and Orman A. McAllister Jr., both of North Chatham; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
