Colonel Marjorie E. Cummings
HADDONFIELD, N.J. - Colonel Marjorie E. Cummings, 62, died on August 21, 2000, at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. Cummings was the daughter of the late Merle and Helen (Lewis) Cummings of Center Ossipee.
She was a graduate of Kennett High School in 1956 and New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She received her BSN in 1965 and her MSN in 1974 from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa. Her life was that of continuous education in the field of medicine, receiving several other certifications and having several professional affiliations.
She spent 20 years on military nursing, holding multiple positions including flight nurse, in-flight trainer and examiner and assistant chief nurse. Her service culminated with the position of command nurse at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia during Operation Desert Storm. She received the meritorious service medal and is listed in women in military service for America in Washington, D.C., at the women's memorial, and in Who's Who in American Women for her many outstanding achievements.
She will be greatly missed by her many friends and surviving family; a brother, Wayne Cummings of Madison and two sisters, Lois Slano of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. and Janet Culbertson of Largo, Fla.
There will be a graveside memorial service at the Lakeview Cemetery in Freedom on Sept. 9 at 11 a.m. with the Reverend William Rich officiating. Lord Funeral Home of 50 Moultonville Road in Center Ossipee is in charge of arrangements.
Arnold P. Bennett
GLEN - Arnold P. Bennett, 74, of Glen, died Aug. 25, 2000, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland following a long illness.
He was born in Wilsons Mills, Maine, the son of Daniel and Gladys (Cameron) Bennett.
Mr. Bennett lived in Errol for several years prior to moving to Glen in 1956. He was a graduate of Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, class of 1944, and he was self-employed as a highway construction contractor.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served in France, Belgium, Germany and Czechoslovakia.
He was on the Bartlett Planning Board, the Bartlett Fire Department and the Bartlett Bicentennial Committee. He was also a water commissioner of the Bartlett Village Water Precinct, and, for the past four years, was the manager of the Bartlett-Jackson Transfer Station.
The family includes his wife, Marilyn Bennett, of Glen; one son, Bruce E. Bennett and wife Tracey, of Bartlett; two daughters, Eloise Lawton and fiancee Ron, of Errol, and Cynthia Locke and husband Larry, of North Conway; five grandchildren, Eric Lawton, Vicki Lawton, Kim Bennett, Katie Bennett and Missy Locke; two brothers, Daniel R. Bennett, of Berlin, and Vernon Bennett, of Huntington, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son, Jeffrey P. Bennett; one grandson, Shawn M. Lawton; and three brothers, Clinton Bennett, Rex Bennett and Donald Bennett.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Glen Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. William R. Stockhaus, pastor, and the Rev. Robert Novak officiating. Visiting hours will be today (Monday) from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

B. Evelyn Brooks
FREEDOM - B. Evelyn Brooks, 92, a native and lifelong resident of Freedom, died Aug. 28, 2000, at SunBridge of North Conway.
She was a graduate of Kennett High School in Conway and a member of the class of 1927 of North Hampton Commercial College in North Hampton, Mass. After receiving her appointment with the federal government, she worked for 37 years for the U.S. Justice Department, Federal Prison Service. Evelyn was a member of the First Christian Church of Freedom.
Her family includes two brothers, Matthew Brooks of Interlarken, Fla., and Miles Brooks of Center Conway; three sisters, Carle B. Rowe of Rochester, Louise Moore of Conway, and Lucy B. Works of Salem, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held in the Lakeview Cemetery in Freedom today at 2 p.m. Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road in Center Ossipee, is in charge of arrangements.
Norman E. (Frenchy) Lefebvre
TAMWORTH - Norman E. (Frenchy) Lefebvre, 73, of Eldridge Lane, died Aug. 28, 2000, at the V.A. Medical Center in West Roxbury, Mass., following a brief illness.
He was born May 26, 1927, in Pepprell, Mass., the son of Raymond Lefebvre and Alma (Pellitier) Lefebvre. He attended school in Nashua. He left in 1944 to join the United States Navy. He served 20 years in the Navy, and was in World War II and the Korean War. He achieved the rank of chief petty officer, at which time he received the medal of good conduct along with other distinctive medals. He was honorably discharged in January 1964.
He moved to Hudson in 1965, where he was employed with Teldyne, and also operated Hudson Market. He also worked for Nashua D.P.W. He briefly lived in Manchester before moving to Ossipee in 1982, where he owned and operated Riverview Manor. He retired in 1993, and moved to Tamworth.
He was a member of the VFW in Nashua, Ossipee and Boylston, Mass. He was also a member of the American Legion in Hudson.
Members of his family include a daughter, Lindsey Brown of Freedom; a sister, Sister Carmel of Baltimore, Md.; a step son, Paul J. Flahive Jr. of New Ipswich; a granddaughter, Esther Ann Vadney; two great grandchildren, Stacey M. Vadney and Jason R. Vadney; and two great-great grandsons.
Calling hours will be on Friday, Sept. 1, from 9 to 10 a.m., at Lord Funeral Home on 50 Moultonville Road in Center Ossipee. A Christian Mass will immediately follow at St. Joseph's Church. A Christian-military burial will take place at N.H. Veterans Cemetery on Route 3 in Boscawen at 1 p.m.

Robert J. Lynch
FRYEBURG - Robert J. Lynch, 53, of Portland Street in Fryeburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at the Bridgton Hospital after a long illness.
He was born in Amesbury, Mass., the son of William and Lucy Perley Lynch. He attended St. Joseph's School and graduated from Haverhill Trade School.
He was an Army veteran and spent time in Germany. He had lived in this area for the past 20 years, and had worked as a cook for several locations including Red Parka Pub and Fryeburg Village Variety.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Doris DeVitt Lynch of Fryeburg; one son, Robert J. Lynch Jr. of Merrimack, Mass.; one daughter, Leslie-Ann Petz of Florida; one brother, William J. Lynch Jr. of Salisbury, Mass.; one sister, Eileen Gosselin of Amesbury, Mass.; and four grandchildren.
A gathering of friends and relatives will be held Saturday at 1 p.m., at the Lynch home at 6 Portland Street in Fryeburg to celebrate Bob's life. Donations in his memory may be made to the Fryeburg Rescue, P.O. Box 177, Fryeburg, Maine 04037.

Adrian G. "Andy" McCarron
GREAT DIAMOND ISLAND, Maine - Adrian G. "Andy" McCarron, 58, died at home on Great Diamond Island, Maine, on August 22, 2000, after a long battle with mesothelioma (cancer).
He was born August 27, 1941 in Lewiston, Maine, a son of Joseph A. and Jeanette Amnot McCarron. He was graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelors degree and also attended and graduated from law school at the University of Maine with a law degree. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years.
McCarron practiced law with the firm of Melendy and McCarron in North Conway from 1986-1993. He most recently owned Old Port Title Company in Portland.
His special interests included history and sports, and was a supporter of the University of Southern Mississippi athletic program. He was a member of the American Legion and the Eagle Club of Southern Mississippi Athletic Program.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Young McCarron of Great Diamond Island; his mother of Lewiston; a daughter, Michelle L. Neuville of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, a son, Michael P. McCarron of Boston; three brothers, Francis Peter of Fayetteville, Ga., Robert N. of Windham, Stephen J. of Lewiston; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, at Diamond Cove on Great Diamond Island. Burial will be held at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. Donations can be made to Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Assoc. P.O. Box 942, Augusta, ME 04332.
Benjamin A. Kreider
FREEDOM - Benjamin A. Kreider, Sr., 69, of Freedom, died on August 24, 2000 in his home, following a sudden illness. He was born in Lancaster, Pa., and was the son of Benjamin and Catherine (Weitzel) Kreider.
Kreider grew up in Lancaster, Pa., and lived in Bucks County, Pa., for 25 years before moving to the Mount Washington Valley in the the 1980s. He was graduated from Pennsylvania State University, class of 1949. He was a mechanical engineer employed with both MIT and Princeton University. He was chief engineer at ABAR Corp. for 20 years and was the first to design the computerized high-vacuum furnaces, which were used in metal treatment of airplane wings for Pratt and Whitney. Krieider was also self-employed with Kreider Associates in sales of toxic gas monitors for the semiconductor industry.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church, as well as an avid skier for his entire life, volunteering with the Junior Ski Program.
The family includes: two sons, Benjamin A. Kreider, Jr. of New Hope, Pa., and David L. Kreider of Fla., his daughter, Susan B. Kreider of Philadelphia, Pa.; and his sister, Shirley Shelling of Evansville, Ind.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, in North Conway, with the Rev. Laurence Brown, pastor, officiating. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. Donations may be sent to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 600, North Conway, 03860.
June E. Blair
PORTLAND, Maine - June E. Blair, 60, of Center Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2000, at the Maine Medical Center in Portland after battling a long illness.
She was born in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, on June 22, 1940. She had been employed as a teacher's aid at Carpenter School in Wolfeboro for 19 years. Blair also worked as a costume designer and helper for summer theater in Wolfeboro. She loved to sew and make alterations for both family and others. She was well-known for her creativity in making handmade stuffed animals. Blair was well-loved by many.
She is survived by her sons, Robin Blair of Whitefield and Michael Blair of New Durham; her daughter, Jessica Blair of Wolfeboro; her granddaughter, Mycheala Mason and a soon-to-be born grandchild.
She is also survived by a sister, Pat Whitehead of Upper Kennetook, Nova Scotia; a niece, Tracy Whitehead and a nephew, Sean Whitehead; cousins, aunts and uncles, all from Canada.
Calling hours will be on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 26 and 27, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Lord Funeral Home on Route 28 in Wolfeboro. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Wolfeboro. Interment will be in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
