Florence (Lord) Banfill
CENTER OSSIPEE -- Florence (Lord) Banfill, 89, of Old Route 16, died peacefully in her home Thursday, March 30, 2000. She was born Aug. 25, 1910, in West Ossipee. NH, the daughter of the late John A. and Laura Mae (Knight) Lord. Florence was a native and longtime resident of Ossipee. She was a graduate of Brewster Academy, Wolfeboro, NH, and had worked as a bookkeeper for the Dube & Murphy Oil Company in Center Ossipee for many years. She later worked as a postal clerk at the Center Ossipee Post Office for several years.
Florence was the window of the late Charles W. Banfill of Center Ossipee and is survived by a brother Rolland W. Lord, West Ossipee, three daughters Edna L. Kennard, Center Ossipee, Mary Kirkwood, Freedom, NH, and Charlotte Boisse, Hooksett, NH, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a brother, Carroll Lord and two sisters, Ruth L. Calder, and Frances L. (Davis) Burton.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee. The Rev. Randolph Dales will officiate. Burial will be in the Ossipee Valley Cemetery, West Ossipee.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Hospice of Southern Carroll County, P.O. Box 1620, Wolfeboro, NH.
Constance E. Hovey
NORTH CONWAY - Constance E. Hovey, 91, of North Conway, NH, died April 1, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway. Born in Wilder, VT, the daughter of Lawrence and Ella (Hawkins) Palmer, she grew up in Burlington, VT, and had lived in Reading, MA, for 25 years before moving to North Conway in1967.
Mrs. Hovey was a graduate of the University of Vermont in Burlington.
She had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Carroll County Extension, a Memorial Hospital volunteer and Gibson Center volunteer, both in North Conway.
She owned and operated Hobby Craft Studio for over 10 years, while in Reading, and taught ceramics.
The family includes: two sons, David L. Hovey of Glen and Karl M. Hovey of Irving, Texas; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Shimkus and nine grandchildren and15 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Reginald A. Hovey in 1967 and their son John W. Hovey in 1950.
A Memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Jackson Community Church in Jackson with the Rev. Pojen Lee, pastor, officiating. There will be no visiting hours. Donations may be sent to the Gibson Center for Senior Services, North Conway, NH 03860.

Charlotte H. Jones
SALISBURY, Mass. - Charlotte H. Jones, 77, formerly of Albany, passed away Sunday afternoon, March 25, 2000, at the home of her brother with family at her side.
Born in Amesbury, Mass., on Sept. 17,1922, she was the daughter of the late James Arthur and Ella (Rowell) Hartt. She was the wife of the late Ward Jones.
She attended Amesbury schools and was a graduate of Amesbury High School with the class of 1940. During the 1960s, she founded the Newburyport Telephone Answering Service. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Emblem Club of the Elks in Conway and was member and past president of the Newburyport Moose.
She is survived by one brother, Wayne Hartt Sr. and his wife Joyce of Salisbury, Mass.; a nephew, Wayne Hartt Jr. of Amesbury; and two nieces, Vichelle Naugle of Epsom and Pam Drew of Salisbury, Mass.
Funeral services will be today at 11 a.m. at the E.V. Jutras and Sons Funeral Home on 118 Friend St. in Amesbury. Burial will follow in Mount Prospect Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will precede the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Beatrice (Starr) Whittaker
WOLFEBORO - Beatrice (Starr) Whittaker, 81, formerly of Brockton, Mass., died March 25, 2000, at the Sunbridge Care of Wolfeboro.
She was born Sept. 21, 1918, the daughter of the late William and Olga Sterr, in Swampscott, Mass., and later lived in Brockton for many years. She moved to Wolfeboro five years ago.
Whittaker was the widow of the late Edward Whittaker. She was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Brockton for many years where she was a member of the church choir. As an active leader in the Girl Scouts in the community, she was also a member of the Jubilate Choral Society of Brockton, the Stoughton Choral Society, the Massasoit Senior Center and the Senior Citizens Bowling League in Brockton.
She is survived by her daughter and her husband Laurel and Donald Anderson, Freedom; two granddaughters, Julie and Holly Anderson, also of Freedom; a brother, William Sterr of North Plainfield, N.J.; and nieces and nephews.
A time of visitation will be held al the Forest Hills Cemetery Chapel in Jamaica Plains, Mass., today at 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. at the chapel with a burial following the service.
Donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Barbara R. Lord
BROWNFIELD, Maine - Barbara R. Lord, 75, of Route 160 in Brownfield, died March 28, 2000, at Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital, Bridgton, Maine.
She was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Brownfield, Maine, a daughter of Chester H. and Stella M. Seavey Gilpatrick.
Lord was educated in Brownfeld schools and graduated from Bean Memorial High School of Brownfield.
In the 1950s she worked as secretary, treasurer and town clerk for the Town of Brownfield. She later worked two years at Walker Chevrolet of Kezar Falls, Maine, and 13 years at Lovell Telephone Company, later called Continental Telephone Co., retiring in 1989.
She was a former member of Brownfield Stone Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Brownfield Fireman's Auxiliary, Brownfield Community Church, Pine Grove Cemetery Association, Brownfield Historical Society, Brownfield Library Association and a school board member at SAD 72.
She enjoyed watching birds, gardening, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are: a husband of 54 years Alfred W. Lord of Brownfield, Maine; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Judith M.) Smith, of Brownfield, Maine; one son, Dennis D. and Roberta Lord of Brownfield, Maine; one sister, Ruth S. Gilpatrick of Brownfield, Maine; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Neal and York Funeral Home, Kezar Falls. Donations may be made to Fryeburg Rescue, 2 Lovewell Pond Road, Fryeburg, Maine 04037.
Nathalie F. Towle
CONWAY - Nathalie F. Towle, 93, died March 23, 2000, at the Sunbridge Care Center in North Conway.
She was born Jan. 31, 1907, in Chelsea, Mass., daughter of the late Ransellear and Mabel (Morris) Towle.
Towle grew up in Melrose, Mass. She graduated from Melrose High School and Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass. A teacher for 45 years she taught school in several cities, retiring from the Rockport (Massachusetts) School System after many years as a first-grade teacher. Upon her retirement she moved to North Conway where she had resided for the last 26 years.
For many years during the summer, Towle managed the former Bass Rocks' Beach Club in Gloucester, Mass. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers' Association.
Predeceased by a brother R. Dana Towle, Sr. formerly of Gloucester and Rockport, Mass., she is survived by a nephew, R. Dana Towle Jr., of North Attleboro, Mass., and a niece Nancy M. Fuller of Henderson, N.C.
The Baker Gagne Cremation Service of West Ossipee is in charge of the arrangements.
Richard H. MacArthur
PEMBROKE, Mass. - Richard H. MacArthur, 73, of Pembroke and formerly of Braintree, Mass., died at his home in Pembroke on March 21, 2000, following a long illness.
Born in Braintree, Mass. he received his education there. He moved to Pembroke in 1976.
He was a heavy equipment operator for the town of Braintree and served as a foreman for the town of Braintree. He retired in 1978.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Husband of the late June I. (Jerpi) MacArthur, he is survived by two sons, Robert A. MacArthur of Conway and Richard D. MacArthur of Marshfield, Mass. He is survived by a brother, William O. MacArthur of Lusby, Md., and a sister, Barbara Sheldon of Littleton, Mass. He is survived by two grandchildren, Kevin MacArthur and Janine MacArthur both of Conway. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Barrows. His parents were the late Col. William O. MacArthur, U.S. Army, and Florence (Bartlett) MacArthur.
Funeral services were held last week in Braintree, Mass.

Otis McKinley Quint Jr.
CONWAY - Otis McKinley Quint Jr., 77, of Conway died on March 25, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital, following a long illness.
Born in Conway, the son of Otis and Maude (Willey) Quint Sr, he was a lifelong resident of Conway.
Quint owned and operated his own business, known as Otis M. Quint and Sons, until his retirement,
He was a member of Mount Washington Lodge No. 87 F&AM in North Conway and a member of Bektash Temple.
Otis was known for his brilliant smile, twinkle in his eyes and his enormous love of people. For good times and sing-alongs, those who knew him felt love. He was and always will be remembered as a very special man.
The family includes: his wife, Joyce (White) Quint of Conway; six children, Cindi-Jo Quint, Gregg Quint and his wife Sharon, Melinda Quint Fallen and her husband Harland Fallen, Scott Quint and his wife Vicky, Kevin Quint and his wife Lori, and Chris Quint and his wife Michele, all of Conway. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Angela, Anne, Scott, Joshua, Kelli and Tyler, all of Conway; two brothers, Burnham Quint Sr. and Rodney Quint, both of Conway; two sisters, Lucille Lucy of Conway and Loretta Loiselle of Manchester; an aunt, Frances Holmes of Intervale; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Arlene Simard in 1960 and Doris Hammond in 1997.
Graveside services will be held in the Conway Village Cemetery later in the spring. There will be no visiting hours. Donations may be sent to The Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 5001, North Conway, 03860.

Leslie E. Thompson
CONWAY - Leslie E. Thompson, 75, of Conway, died on March 23, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital, in North Conway, following a brief illness. He was born in Porter, Maine, and was the son of Charles and Edith (Stanley) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson grew up in Conway and lived most of his life in the Mt. Washington Valley. He was a graduate of Kennett High School, class of 1942, and attended North Carolina State University. He was U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II, serving as a pilot instructor. Mr. Thompson worked as a board sawyer for Lucy Lumber and from 1975-1989 for Diamond International in Lincoln. He also worked in maintenance for Conway and owned and operated the Clam Box from 1967 to 1975. He was also a member and past commander of the Ralph W. Shirley Post No. 46 in Conway.
The family includes his wife of 53 years, Marie C. (King) Thompson of Conway; his son, Robert L. Thompson of Conway; four daughters, Linda T. Day of West Newbury, Karen E. Estey of Conway, Shirley T. Hamlin of Intervale, and Kathi S. Brown of Tamworth; ten grandchildren; his brother, Lewis Thompson of Winter Haven, Fla.; two sisters, Violet Bousquin of Rochester, and Phyllis Toby of Kittery, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Conway Village Cemetery, in the late spring. There will be no visiting hours. Helen Susan Cooper
Helen Susan Cooper, 87, died Wednesday May 31,2000 in Lewiston, Maine. She was born March 8, 1913 in Bethany, Conn. She lived most of her life in West Haven, Conn. She relocated to Silver Pines in Fryeburg, Me. after an active life which included being President of the West Haven Women's Club and President of the West Haven Chapter of the AARP as well as involvement with the Red Cross, West Haven Historical Society, West Haven Community House, Adult Education, and the West Haven Seniors. She was also a top sales representative for Avon for a number of years. The past two months of her life were spent with her granddaughter, Linda Candelora her husband Michael and her family in Lovell, Maine.
She is survived by a daughter, Joan Derosier of Tamworth, NH, a daughter, Susan Froelich of Kingfield, Me., a sister, Dot Hackett of West Haven, Conn., a sister, Minnie Downs of Hamden, CT., a sister, Hazel Hoppe of Southington, Conn., 7 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband Fred Cooper, a grandson, Eric Froehlich, a granddaughter, Karen Birkbeck, a granddaughter, Diane Meagher, and a sister, Florence Johnson.
A funeral service will be held Monday, June 5, at 10 AM at Wilson Funeral Home in Gray, Maine. Burial will follow in E. New Portland Cemetery, East New Portland, Me.
