Gladys J. Frost
OSSIPEE - Gladys J. Frost, 102, one of the oldest residents of Ossipee, died Nov. 23, 1999, at the Merriman House in North Conway.
She was a lifelong resident of the area. She was born in Wakefield on July 28, 1897, the daughter of Everett and Alice Thompson Shortridge.
She retired in 1972 as the assistant cook at the Ossipee Central School. Mrs. Frost was a member of the Moultonboro Methodist Church and a charter member of the Ossipee Women's Club. Throughout her life she was very interested in politics and had voted every year since women had won the right to vote. In her long life she witnessed many notable events including seeing the Great Houdini perform in Wolfeboro. She enjoyed poetry and had several of her originals published.
Mrs. Frost was the widow of Guy R. Frost, who died in 1956. She is survived by three daughters, Ruth Staples, Patricia Hayford and Priscilla Busch, all of Center Ossipee; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great, great granddaughters.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations in her name may be made to the Lakes Region Humane Society, P.O. Box 2231 Wolfeboro, NH 03894.

Walter F. Heath
CONWAY - Walter F. Heath, 57, of Center Conway, died Nov. 29, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a sudden illness.
Born in Brockton, Mass., the son of Frederick and Myrtle (McGrath) Heath, he lived in Stow, Maine, for several years before moving to Center Conway in 1994.
He worked for the Sheet Metal Workers International Association Local Union No. 17 in Massachusetts for several years, and for the past eight years he has been employed by Ceramco Inc. in Center Conway.
Mr. Heath was a member of St. Margaret's Anglican Church.
Heath's family includes: his wife, Kristin R. Heath of Center Conway; a son, Gregory Heath of Maui, Hawaii; a daughter, Jacqueline Heath of Brockton, Mass.; his mother, Myrtle Heath of Brockton, Mass.; a sister, Patricia LeClair of Madera, Calif.; a brother, Richard Heath of Duxbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Conway with the Rev. Angelo J. D'Onofrio, rector, officiating. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
Gloria J. Lacasse
NORTH STRATFORD - Gloria J. LaCasse, 57, of Main Street in North Stratford, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook. after being stricken at her home.
She was born in Colebrook April 17, 1942, the daughter of Allen R. and Abigail (Shaw) Dustin Sr. She attended grade school in Colebrook and was a graduate of Kennett High School in Conway, class of 1960. Following graduation, she attended Burdett College in Boston, Mass., and graduated two years later from its secretarial program.
She returned to Colebrook and worked for the Andrew George Insurance Co., of Colebrook from 1962-68. She then moved with her family to Nashua, and she worked at Sanders Association as a secretary. In 1972, she and her family moved to North Stratford, where she lived until her death. She worked for the Stratford Public School for the past 21 years, including 15 years as a classroom aide and six years as secretary for the guidance counselor. She was also elected treasurer for the school two different times, serving a total of 10 years.
She enjoyed working with plants and flowers. She also took great pleasure in her family, her grandson and children in general.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Donald LaCasse, of North Stratford; one son, Randy LaCasse, of Sanbornton; one grandson, Christopher; and two sisters, Elizabeth Gadwah, of Wallingford, Conn., and Alberta Sakawich, of Yalesville, Conn.
She was predeceased by a son, Christopher, in 1966.
Calling hours were Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, Monday, at 11 a.m. at the St. Brendan Catholic Church in Colebrook, with the Rev. Albert Bellefeuille, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Brendan's Cemetery.

Barbara H. Boduch
TAMWORTH - Barbara H. Boduch, 72, of Remick Acres in Tamworth, died Nov. 24, 1999, at her home after an illness.
Born Aug. 17, 1927 in New York, N.Y., the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Nash) Bowers.
Mrs. Boduch lived in Anchorage, Alaska, prior to moving to Tamworth nine years ago. She worked as a bookkeeper for Mr. Coffee in Anchorage for many years.
Pre-deceased by her husband, John Boduch, she leaves a son, John Boduch, of LaJolla, Calif.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of West Ossipee and Wolfeboro are handling cremation.
Elaine E. Shannon
CONWAY - Elaine E. Shannon, 47, of Conway, died Dec. 5, 1999 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway, after a brief illness.
Born in North Conway, the daughter of Frank and Geneva (Brown) Thompson, she had been a lifelong resident of the Mount Washington Valley.
The family includes two brothers, Rockford Thompson of South Conway and Gerald Thompson of Fryeburg, Maine; a sister, Laura L. Velez of Belmont; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held today, Wednesday, at noon in the Center Conway Cemetery with the Rev. Len Dunphy, pastor of the Central Baptist Church in Belmont, officiating. There will be no visiting hours.
The Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway is in charge of arrangements.
Sarah (O'Brien) Nelson
CONWAY - Sarah (O'Brien) Nelson, of Conway, formerly of West Roxbury, Mass., died Dec. 1, 1999, at the Merriman House in North Conway.
She was the beloved wife of the late Edward L. Nelson. Children are Paul E. Nelson, of North Carolina, and Kate Schreiber and David Nelson, both of Conway. Grandchildren include Paul, Daniel, Christopher, John Jr., Michael and Eric.
She was the sister of the late Frank, Katherine, Walter, Kohn and Edward O'Brien.
She worked for Commercial Union Insurance Co., for 12 years.
Funeral services are at the P.E. Murray Funeral Home, 2000 Centre Street, West Roxbury on Friday Dec. 10, at 10 a.m. Funeral mass is in St. Theresa Church at 11 a.m. Visiting hours are Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The will be an interment at the St. Joseph Cemetery.
John D. Westhaver
FRYEBURG, Maine - John D. Westhaver, 88, of Fryeburg, Maine, died Feb. 27, 2000, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center, after a long illness.
Born in Melrose, Mass., the son of Joshua and Lottie (Ritchie) Westhaver, he came to Fryeburg in March of 1999.
Westhaver owned and operated Franconia Valley Inn in Franconia from 1948 to 1952, and he owned and operated a restaurant in Southern California for 15 years before retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the International Order of Odd Fellows.
The family includes: his wife, Jean (Johnson) Westhaver or Fryeburg; two sons, Kenneth H. Westhaver of West Fryeburg and Rev. John D. Westhaver of Boscawen; two daughters, Debra J. Church of Avon, Conn. and Mona L. Westhaver of Portland, Ore.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visiting hours. The Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway is in charge of arrangements.
Evelina May Smith Farrington
LOVELL, Maine - Evelina May Smith Farrington, 62, of Harbor Road Lovell died Sunday Feb. 27, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway. She was born in North Conway on May 17, 1937, the youngest of 10 children the daughter of Charles and Charlotte Sawyer Smith.
She was a life time resident of the Fryeburg and Lovell area, and attended Fryeburg schools, graduating with the class of 1955. She worked at the Green Granite Inn in North Conway since 1976 doing various jobs. Prior to that she worked at Forest Industries in Fryeburg and several resort areas in the Lovell and North Conway area. She was a member of the Harbor Church. She enjoyed helping others, reading, crocheting, and most of all she enjoyed her family.
She leaves her husband of 44 years, Richard T. Farrington, one daughter Rose Ann Johnson; one son, Richard C. Farrington; one grand-daughter Malanie Johnson; one grandson, Andrew Johnson, all of Lovell; two sisters, Violet Fox, Viola Cram, two brothers Austin Smith and Charles Smith, all of Fryeburg.
She was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers Myrtle Fox, Helen Farrington, Albert Smith, Elmer Smith and Everett Smith. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in North Fryeburg.
Arrangements are with Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg, Maine.
Merlin Frederick Guptill
PORTLAND, Maine - Merlin Frederick Guptill, 59, of Portland, Maine, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Maine Medical Center following a short illness.
He was born in Jackson. He was the son of Ms. Mildred Hattie Wiggin Burke, a lifelong resident of North Conway, now of Glencliff, and the late Merlin C. Guptill of Jackson.
He is survived by his son, Shawn Hill of Jackson; his sister and brother-in-law, Alice M. Murray and Donald Murray of Jackson; his brother and sister-in-law, Irving E. Guptill and Carey Guptill of Glen; his brother and sister-in-law, Douglas A. MacDonald and Marie MacDonald of South Conway; and his brother, Clinton M. Guptill of Glen.
He was born at Memorial Hospital on November 25, 1940. He attended Jackson Grammar School through the eighth grade and graduated from Kennett High School in 1958. For the last 40-plus years he has been employed by several automobile dealerships in New Hampshire and Maine where he worked as a salesman. He was last employed by Ron's Auto Sales of North Windham, Maine.
He will probably be best remembered for his sharp wit, his ability to tell a wonderful story, his love of music and his hilarious sense of humor. Years ago he had a specialty radio show on the local station where he was known as the Jukebox Junkie. He had a legion of friends who will always remember him as being a happy-go-lucky guy with a devil-may -are attitude.
A memorial service will be held at the Glen Baptist Church in Glen on Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m. He will be buried with a graveside service in the spring at Jackson Village Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Bartlett Jackson Rescue.
Deborah L. Hill
INTERVALE - Deborah L. Hill, 87, of Intervale died on Feb. 26, 2000 at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a sudden illness. Born in Bartlett, the daughter of Burley and Bertha (Sweet) Hill, she was a lifelong resident of Bartlett.
Deborah had been a farmer for over 65 years and had operated Hills Farm Stand as a tractor driver and wholesaler, in Intervale, since 1958.
She was a member of the Farm Bureau.
The family includes: two sons, Brian M. Hill of Intervale and Donald F. Hill of Redstone; two sisters, Madelon Comings and Bertha Witham, both of North Conway and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home, in North Conway, with the Rev. Laurence D. Brown, officiating. Burial will be in the Glen Cemetery later in the spring. There will be no visiting hours.
