Leonard Raymond Gagne
Leonard R. Gagne, 63 of Page Road, Litchfield died Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at Southern NH Medical Center.

He was born in Nashua on April 29, 1939 a son of the late Napoleon and Beatrice (Gauthier) Gagne. He was the husband of Vesta (Nicholson) Gagne.

Fletcher Granite in Chelmsford, Massachusetts had employed Mr. Gagne. Mr. Gagne loved his Harley and was an avid rider. He was pre-deceased by a son, Ricky Gagne, two brothers, Donald Gagne and Roger Gagne and a sister Carmen Smith.

Besides his wife, Mr. Gagne is survived by: two sons; Roger Gagne of Greenville and Randy Gagne of Manchester, one daughter; Lisa Duclos of Nashua, one grandson, twelve step-grand daughters and two step-great grand daughters; four step-sons; Ronald Couch and his wife Donna, Patrick Couch and his wife Holly, William McKnight all of Nashua and Walter McKnight of Concord, one stepdaughter; Lucille Towson of San Diego, CA, one brother and sister-in-law; Alan and Debbie Gagne of Nashua, also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Anctil-Rochette & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Doris A. (Haskins) Gagnon
Doris A. (Haskins) Gagnon, 82, of 203 Lowell Road, Hudson, died at a local healthcare facility on Wednesday morning August 6, 2003.

Mrs. Gagnon was born in Nashua, on November 19, 1920, a daughter of the late Asa and Jennie (Tupper) Haskins. She had lived in Hudson for a short time and was a longtime resident of Litchfield. She had also lived in Nashua.

At one time, Mrs. Gagnon had worked as a self-employed hairdresser. She also was a waitress for the former Priscilla's Tea Room in Nashua and the Hudson White Cross. She then worked as an assembly worker for many years at Sprague Electronics and Centronics Corporation until her retirement.

Mrs. Gagnon was a member of the Litchfield Historical Society and a board member of Pinecrest cemetery in Litchfield for many years. She enjoyed baking, knitting, and her family. She was also known for her crème puffs.

She attended Litchfield Community Church, Presbyterian.

She was a graduate of Nashua Senior High School. She also attended Hairdressing School.

She was predeceased by two brothers Leonard and Ronald Haskins, two sisters and their husbands, Olive and Arnold Campbell and June and Elton Jarvis

Survivors include: Two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Betty Conaty of Hudson and Joe and Jane Conaty of Hudson; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jamie Plumley of Hudson and Linda and David Sperberg of Litchfield; a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Haskins of Mesa, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Stacia Haskins of California and Delores Haskins of Arizona; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Davis Funeral Home in Nashua, was in charge of arrangements.

Gertrude Hammond
Gertrude "Geri" Hammond, 92, of 74 Central Street, Hudson, died at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center late Tuesday evening, June 10, 2003.

She was born in Wilmington, Massachusetts on September 12, 1910, a daughter of the late Charles R. and Bertha L. (Bisbee) Harris, Senior. She was a longtime resident of Hudson. In 1940 after the birth of their first child, she and her husband bought their home on Central Street, which at the time was a 100 year-old home. Prior to which she had lived in Randolph and Brookfield Vermont as well as Glenns Falls, New York.

Mrs. Hammond was the widow of Leon G. Hammond, her husband of 67 years, who died on April 29, 2003. They were married on March 24, 1936.

Mrs. Hammond began working as in the payroll department at Nashua Corporation after returning from college. She also worked for Sprague Electric as a secretary, before becoming the first secretary to the Town of Hudson. She was also the secretary for the Chamber of Commerce in Hudson. She had also assisted as a dispatcher for the Hudson Fire Department and was a secretary for the Hudson Police Department.

She always considered herself the support member of any group or activity of which she was involved, even though everyone agrees, they also felt she was much more. For many years, she was also a member of the Hudson Historical Society, and she served on the Board of Directors and was also the Treasurer of that organization. She was also active in many various aspects for Old Home Days. She and her husband were very active in the New Hampshire Winnebago Club and enjoyed traveling in their motor home. They had met many friends during their travels and many of whom visited from time to time. They had made several trips to the Coral Gables area in Florida.

She was a very active member of the Hudson Baptist Church. She and her husband were key people for the church's ham and bean suppers. She loved the church fairs and was always busy helping wherever she could. She was also a member of their BAFTA Club (Be a Friend To All). She attended the Hudson Community Church and the Nashua Baptist Church, prior to transferring her membership to the Hudson, Baptist Church. While a member at the Hudson Community Church she belonged the fortnightly Club and the Alethea Women's Club.

Mrs. Hammond was a graduate of Nashua High School, Class of 1928. Following her graduation she had attended a two-year school in Providence, Rhode Island. Her early education included attending a one-room schoolhouse in Brookfield, VT and schools in Randolph, VT and Glenns Fall, New York.

She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy B. Harris.

Survivors include: a son, David G. Hammond of Plymouth, MA; a daughter, Nancy Lee of Melbourne, FL; a granddaughter, Margaret Ellen "Meghan" Hammond, who is attending college in Baltimore, MD; two nephews Robert Hammond of Ayer, MA and Mark Stratton of Pelham, NH; two nieces, Joyce Davis of North Carolina, and Pamela Minkler of Utah; a sister, Shirley B: Fielding of Utah and a brother, Charles R. Harris, Jr. of Manchester, NH.

The Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua is in charge of arrangements.

Chance M. Healey
Chance M. Healey, 3-month-old son of Rhiannon (Piper) Hayward and Michael P. Healey of Goffstown, New Hampshire, died unexpectedly at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester on November 13, 2003. He died of an unknown heart defect.

Besides his parents, he is also survived by: a brother, Gabriel and a sister, Austin; his grandparents, Dean and Robin Piper; his uncle, Johnathan Piper of Weare, New Hampshire; his paternal grandparents, Anne and Austin L. Healey; two aunts, Tracy and Kelly of Manchester; his great grandparents, Darlene Piper of Litchfield and Harry Piper of New Boston, New Hampshire; two aunts, Charlene (Piper) Punski and Darlene (Piper) Merchant; his uncle, William Merchant and several cousins, all from Hudson.

Margaret (Livingstone) Hegarty
Accomplished Poet

Margaret (Livingstone) Hegarty, 93, of Lowell Road, Hudson died Thursday, May 15, 2003 at the Fairview Nursing Home.

She was born in Joggins Nova Scotia, Canada on January 5, 1910 a daughter of the late Frederick and Florence (Porter) Livingstone. She was the widow of James J. Hegarty who died in 1977.

She was a longtime resident of Hudson. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Hegarty had been employed by the Boston Insurance Co. She loved family, nature and music. She was a communicant of St. Kathryn Church. Mrs. Hegarty was predeceased by: three brothers, Harold Livingstone, Hartland Livingstone and George Livingstone and one sister, Clara Gillis.

Mrs. Hegarty is survived by: Three sons and a daughter-in-law; James J. and Marilyn Hegarty, John M. Hegarty all of Jackman Maine and Gerard Hegarty of Laurel Maryland, one daughter and son-in-law; Ellen and Leo G. Lebel Jr. of Hudson, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law; Colette Livingstone of Nashua, a half sister; Melva and Buddy Carabin of Cape Britain, Nova Scotia, also several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Anctil-Rochette and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joel Stanley Hughes
Joel Stanley Hughes, 58 of Boylston Terrace, Amherst, New Hampshire died Sunday October 26, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua,

Born January 31, 1945 in Somerville, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late John Stanley and Louise Catherine (Marques) Hughes. He was thehusband of Mary Ann (Davey) Hughes, of Amherst. A brother, John Stanley Hughes, predeceased him.

Mr. Hughes was employed as General Manager and Vice President with Hello Direct.

Besides his wife, survivors include: one son Scott Hughes, of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts; one daughter Debra Jane Hughes of Windsor, CT, three brothers, and four sisters-in-law, Wayne Patrick and Eileen Hughes of Port Lucie, Florida, Daniel and Cheryl Hughes of Andover, MA, Lawrence and Dianne Hughes of Tewksbury and Mary Hughes of Billerica, MA. One grandson Samuel Richard Bisson of South Windsor, CT as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson is in charge of arrangements.

Robert A, Jacques
Robert A. Jacques, 81 of Hudson, died Saturday December 13, at Community Hospice House.

He was born January 4, 1922 in Rochester, New Hampshire son of the late Joseph Arthur and Alvina (Perusse) Jacques. He was also pre-deceased by several brothers and sisters.

He was a well-known high school football player.

Mr. Jacques served in the US Army during WW 11, serving in the Artillery battalion for anti-aircraft. He received numerous medals including Good Conduct Medal, Victory medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star. He worked for 32 years for American Airlines in fleet service.

Survivors include: His wife, Annette Jacques, of Pelham; Two sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert B. and Colleen Jacques, of Franklin, NH; Ronald E. and Cheryl Jacques, of Greenfield, Indiana; his daughters, Renee D, Jacques and Lei Marchand, both of Hudson; another daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda C. and Jeff Tobin, of Pelham; several grandchildren including Kathryn Tobin, Amanda Tobin and Jillian Tobin, all of Pelham; two great-grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Janice D. Johnson
Janice D. Johnson, 50, of 976 Main Street, Waltham, formerly of Hudson, and Townsend, Massachusetts, died unexpectedly Friday, November 28, 2003 at the Lahey Clinic, Burlington after being stricken ill earlier that day.

Miss Johnson was born, in Owensboro, KY, May 15, 1953, a daughter of Benjamin C. and Betty J. (Jackson) Johnson and grew up in Townsend. She resided several years in Hudson, before moving to Waltham three years ago.

She is survived by: Her father and step mother, Carol Johnson of Greensboro, NC, her mother of Townsend, two sisters; Helen Butler of Texas, Connie Eyles of Townsend, three brothers, Michael Johnson of California, David Johnson of Texas, Vincent Johnson of Leominster and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Benjamin R. Johnson who died in 1998.

She was a 1971 graduate of North Middlesex Regional High School in Townsend where she played the clarinet in the school band. She received her undergraduate degree in History and Languages from the University of Lowell, and continued to the University of New Hampshire where she received her master’s degree in Business Administration. She then continued to Fitchburg State College where she received a bachelor’s degree in Education Administration and most recently this past May received a bachelors degree in law from Suffolk University, Boston.

For the past three years she was employed as a security officer at Securitas Company in Burlington. Prior to that she worked as an industrial technician for the Raytheon Company in Bedford and Waltham. She also taught several classes as a substitute in the Boston and Lowell Public Schools Systems as well as the Massachusetts Correctional Institute, Shirley.

A licensed real estate broker in the state of New Hampshire, she owned and operated the Puffin Realty Company in Hudson, New Hampshire. She was a member of the Fortnightly Club in Hudson.

She enjoyed writing and had several of her works published. She also enjoyed painting, scuba diving and playing tennis.

There are no calling hours.

James “J.K.” Keene
James “J.K.” Keene, 84, of Ridge Avenue, Hudson and formerly of Lowell MA, died Monday, April 7 at the Northwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lowell.

Mr. Keene was born February 13, 1919 in Lowell MA, son of the late James F. and Margaret (Lyons) Keene.

He was the widower of Mary (Harwood) Keene, who died in 1997.

Mr. Keene was a former member of the Dracut Boy Scouts Troop 44, as well as a member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks.

He retired from Frank P. McCartin, where he was employed for 38 years.

Mr. Keene loved spending summers in Gilmanton New Hampshire.

He was predeceased by one sister, Doris Fitzpatrick and three brothers, Harold, Frank B. and John R. Keene.

Survivors include one brother, Raymond F. Keene of Hollywood FL, four sisters, Helen Pardoe of Osterville MA, Mildred Beary of Gilmanton NH, Rita M. Sconza of Lowell MA, Ann Moreau of Hollywood FL, long- time caregiver, Holly Whittaker of Hudson, as well as several dear nieces and nephews.
