Mark W. Knight
Mark W. Knight, 40, of Windham, passed away Friday, July 13, 2007, at home and surrounded by his family, after battling cancer.
Mark grew up and was educated in Salem, graduating from Salem High School in 1985. He lived in Salem for over 20 years before moving to Windham 15 years ago. Mark was a patrolman for the Windham Police Department for seven years. He was known in the department for his hard work ethic, positive attitude, great sense of humor, generosity and willingness to help anyone in need. Mark was a member of the Windham Police Association.
Mark and his wife also owned and operated their own businesses. He enjoyed motorcycling, restoring cars and loved jet skiing. Mark loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his daughter Jacqueline. He will be greatly missed.
Mark was predeceased by his father Frank W. Knight.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer (Winmill) Knight of Windham; a daughter, Jacqueline Knight of Windham; his mother, Priscilla (Marsh) Knight of Windham; sisters, Marsha and her husband Ronald Caswell of Lyndeborough, Debra and her husband William Chakarian of Derry, and Kimberly and her husband Daniel Pacheco of Salem.
A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, July 18, at the Hampstead Congregational Church in Hampstead. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mark W. Knight Memorial Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 65, Windham, NH 03087. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem was in charge of arrangements.
Scott R. LaPlume
Scott R. LaPlume, 42, of Windham, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 10, 2007.
He was born October 6, 1964 in Methuen, Massachusetts. He was the beloved son of Robert A. and Colette M. (Chasse) LaPlume of Windham.
Scott attended Central Catholic High School and graduated from Pinkerton Academy in Derry.
He was self employed and also worked as an apprentice electrician for LaPlume Electrical. Scott loved his work and animals, and he would help anyone.
Besides his parents, Scott is survived by a daughter Brittany Pothier; sisters Kathleen and her husband William L. Brady of Hudson, Florida, Nicole and her husband Timothy Scott of Manchester, and Jolene Glendye and her companion Robert Arrighi of Merrimack; a brother, David and his wife Sheryl LaPlume of Danville; nephews and nieces, Adam and Jonathan Brady, Erik and Brett Glendye, Matthew Scott, Brian LaPlume, Sarah Brady, Christina LaPlume, and Danielle Scott; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Memorial Mass was held St. Matthew Church in Windham on July 14. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Animal Rescue League, 4 Sarl Drive, Salem, NH 03079. The Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home in Salem was in charge of arrangements.
John P. Lawrence
John P. Lawrence, 91, of Hudson, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Southern New Hamphire Medical Center.
Born January 8, l916, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Fraumemi) Lawrence. He was the widower of Ruth (Largy) Lawrence and Helen (Zelanskas) Lawrence.
Lawrence was a graduate of Bentley College. He had previously worked at IMPCO and pioneered computerization at IMPCO, Law Motor Freight, and many town governments and state government branches. He started and operated Municipal Computer Services Inc. He was a past New Hampshire State Legislator and a past Hudson Selectman, a past member of the Hudson School Board; a past member of the Hudson Budget Committee, and was on the Hudson School Building Committee. He was a past Checklist Supervisor, Tax Collector, and Town Clerk. He had been a resident of Hudson for over 60 years. He was also previously active at St. John the Evangelist Church, particularly in its building projects. He was a member of the Nashua Symphony, IMPCO Retirees, and the Senior Activity Center in Nashua.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Muriel (Winslow) (Crosby) Lawrence, a son Jerry Lawrence and his partner Elizabeth Ching of Shelburne, Vermont; three stepsons, Bernard P. Hirth of Hudson, Richard F. and his wife Eldene Crosby of Orange Park, Florida, and Brad W. and his wife Garnette Crosby of Concord; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jean E. and Robert Howe of Goffstown, Karen R. Wisnosky of Hudson, a stepdaughter Marsha and her husband Richard McAfee of Nashua; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was also predeceased by a stepdaughter Janice C. Jackson and a stepson Thomas J. Hirth.
A Funeral Service was held Saturday, July 21, in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in John’s memory be made to the Senior Activity Center, 70 Temple Street, Nashua, NH 03060.
Edward G. Leaor, Jr.
Edward G. Leaor, Jr. 49, of Hudson, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Nashua, December 13, 1957, he was the son of Edward G. and Darlene A. (LaPan) Leaor, Sr. of Hudson.
Leaor was a 1976 graduate of Alvirne High School. He had worked at Hamm Septic Services as a diesel mechanic before starting LA3 Towing Service in Hudson. Leaor also owned and operated his own amusement ride with BA Amusements. He then opened State Auto Repair in Nashua. He enjoyed motorcycle riding, recycling junk metal and had a passion for Star Wars. He will be remembered most for always helping people.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a son, Edward G. Leaor III, of Nashua; a daughter, Felicia Leaor of Nashua; a brother and sister-in-law Carl and Isabelle Leaor of Hudson; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Leaor-Lovejoy and her husband Jeff, of Litchfield, and Bonnie Myers and her husband Eric of New Ipswich; two grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth Leaor and Gabriel Ruiz, both of Nashua; also several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral mass was celebrated Friday, July 6, in St. Kathryn’s Church in Hudson. Burial was in St. Patrick cemetery, Hudson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Edward G. Leaor, Sr., 80 Pelham Road, Hudson, NH 03051. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, Hudson, was in charge of arrangements.
Eleanor T. (Laudazi) Lucci
Eleanor T. (Laudazi) Lucci, 75, of Salem died Friday at her home.
She was born in Stoneham, MA, where she grew up and attended school. She was a resident of Salem for the past 35 years, formerly of Winchester, Massachusetts.
Mrs. Lucci was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Salem. She enjoyed shopping and was known as Salem’s Best Shopper and Bargain Hunter. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Her husband Anthony Lucci predeceased her. She is survived by her son Michael and his wife Debbie Lucci of Manchester, daughter Cheryl and her husband Michael Couture of Manchester, one sister Margaret Cottone of Melrose, Massachusetts, grandchildren Eric and Marissa Lucci, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, July 23 at Saint Joseph Church, Salem. Burial followed in Pine Grove cemetery, Salem. Calling hours were held Sunday, July 22 at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem.
Judith I. Macie
Judith Inez Macie, 66, of Hudson, wife of Alexander R. “Al” Macie, died unexpectedly at St. Joseph Hospital Saturday, June 9, 2007.
She was born in Nashua on February 8, 1941, a daughter of the Late Ethan Allen and Grace Albertine (Beauchemin) Rowe. The family resided in Nashua during her early youth and moved to Hudson in 1950. She was educated in Hudson schools and was a graduate of Alvirne High School in 1959.
Mr. and Mrs. Macie were married
on June 20, 1959, and were close to observing their 48th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Macie had been employed with the W. H. Bagshaw Co., Centronics and the RdF Corporation during her working years, and was a full-time Mother for nearly 10 years.
She was a talented cook and knitter, enjoyed traveling, and for the past six years, the couple had resided in Davenport, Florida for six months of the year. Mrs. Macie was a member of the Main Street United Methodist Church in Nashua.
Members of her family include her husband, Alexander R. Macie; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan J. and Mark Chase, and Sandra L. and Glenn Trowbridge, both couples of Hudson; two grandchildren, Samantha Chase and Nicholas Trowbridge; a sister, Joyce Winslow of Nashua; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a stepbrother and his wife, Earl and Alice Munson.
Her funeral service was held at the Farwell Funeral Home in Nashua on Thursday June 14. Burial followed at Woodlawn cemetery Mausoleum in Nashua. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
Desirée N. Markhgott
Desirée N. Markhgott, 17, of Hudson, died Friday, June 22, 2007, in the Children's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Miss Markhgott was born in Lebanon, New Hampshire on December 11, 1989, a daughter of Franz J. and Rebecca L. (Schatzel) Markhgott. She was a resident of Hudson for the past year, formerly living in Finland for three years, and Londonderry. Desirée was a student at Alvirne High School, and enjoyed music, basketball, ice skating and watching movies. She attended First Church of Christ Scientist in Derry.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by three sisters, Melissa Kerscher and her husband Marc, Marjourie Markhgott, and Sarah Markhgott all of Hudson; and by one nephew, Hayden Kerscher of Hudson.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 27, in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium in Derry. The burial followed in the Forest Hill cemetery in East Derry. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Twelveacres, Inc., 595 Millich Drive, Campbell, CA 95008.
Michael B. McWilliams
Michael B. McWilliams, 63, of Hudson, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital.
Mr. McWilliams was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on October 12, 1943, a son of the late Byron and Nancy (Irwin) McWilliams. He was the husband of Sharon (Swanson) McWilliams of Hudson.
Mr. McWilliams loved to travel and visited many locations around the world. He enjoyed sailing, fishing, tennis, and riding his vintage motorcycle. He was a member of the Lafayette Club and the Nanticoke River Yacht Club in Seaford, Delaware. Mr. McWilliams was a U. S. Navy veteran.
Besides his wife of 37 years, Mr. McWilliams is survived by two sons, Joseph Michael McWilliams and his fiancée Heather Lynn Gay of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Curtis Todd McWilliams of Fort Collins, Colorado; one brother, Kenneth McWilliams and his wife Kerrill of St. Joseph; and also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

George E. Merrill
George E. Merrill, age 93, a lifelong resident of Salem, died peacefully on July 17, 2007, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Merrill was born in Salem on Church Avenue May 10, 1914, son of the late Charles and Alta Merrill.
George graduated from Woodbury High School with the class of 1920. He was elected Water Commissioner for Salem in 1955. He started the George E. Merrill and Son Construction business at 38 School Street, Salem, in 1953, and it is now in its third generation. He also owned and was president of Shannon Trails Horse Farm, which has been operating since 1964.
Merrill was a charter member of the Salem Lions Club and was its treasurer for many years. He was the first person awarded a Melvin Jones Scholar (highest award given by the Lions Club). A Lions Club Scholarship was given in his name in 2007. He annually spearheaded trade shows at Rockingham Park Race Track and was convention chairman for many years. He was also a charter member of the Salem Contractors Association and former Director of the Indian Head Bank in Salem. He was a member of The Hannah Tenney United Methodist Church in Salem.
Merrill was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (Dawson) Merrill. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Thomas Connell of Salem; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Linda Merrill of Franklin, Tennessee, and George and Gail Merrill of Hampstead; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great great grandson and numerous friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 21, at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home in Salem. Burial followed in Pine Grove cemetery, Salem. Memorial contributions in George’s name may be made to the Salem Lions Club, P. O Box 294, Salem, NH 03079.
John Stewart Rutherford
John Stewart Rutherford, 87, of Hudson, formerly of Pelham and Nashua, died Monday, July 2, 2007, at Courville Communities in Nashua. He was the husband of the late Mary F. (Reidy) Rutherford, who died November 14, 2004.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, October 31, 1919, the son of the late Alexander S. and the late Josephine (Finnegan) Rutherford, he attended Abington schools and graduated from Abington High School in 1937. He also attended M.I.T. School of Engineering.
During World War II, he was a member of the U. S. Coast Guard and served as a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Marine. He made many Atlantic Ocean crossings in convoys.
Before retiring, Mr. Rutherford was the Night Shift Superintendent for over 30 years at the Bethlehem Shipyards in Quincy and then in East Boston.
An auto racing enthusiast, he participated in many of the Mount Washington Hill Climbs and was life member of the Sports Car Club of America. He was also a founding member of the Family Motor Coach Association.
In addition, he was a licensed pilot and a member of the Private Licensed Pilots Association. He also loved photography and was an avid golfer.
Mr. Rutherford is survived by two sons Malcolm S. Rutherford of Windham, and John a Rutherford and his wife Brenda of Hudson; two grandsons, Jason Rutherford of Hillsborough and Nicholas Rutherford of Hudson; a granddaughter, Bryana Rutherford of Hudson; and two great grandchildren, Lili Rutherford and Jason Rutherford.
He was also the brother of the late Jesse Gooch.
