Lola P. (Powers) Mosher
Lola P. (Powers) Mosher, 98, of Salem, died Tuesday, August 7, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Derry.
Lola was born in Musquodoboit Harbor, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late Lillie (Smith) and Harry Power. She was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family, knitting afghans, and playing cards. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Mosher.
She is survived by sons Alton Mosher and his wife Doris of Salem, Robert Mosher and his wife Jan of Tilton; a sister Aileen Dares of Musquodoboit Harbor, Nova Scotia; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. Services will be private for the family.

Angela (Garafalo) Basso
Angela (Garafalo) Basso, 95, of Salem, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at Salemhaven Nursing Home in Salem.
Angela was born in Catania, Italy, the daughter of the late Antonia (Giuffrida) and Benedetto Garafalo. She lived in Salem for the past 23 years, previously living in West Andover, Massachusetts. Angela was an assembler at Western Electric until her retirement. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, and going out to dinner with friends.
Angela was predeceased by her husband Austin Basso, her three sons Santo, Benjamin and Benjamin J., and her grandson Stephen Ardizzone. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Lorraine Ardizzone of Salem; grandchildren Keith Ardizzone, Laurie Coletti and Mark Ardizzone; seven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
A funeral mass was held Wednesday, August 1, at St. Matthew’s Church in Windham. Burial was in Immaculate Conception cemetery, Lawrence, Massachusetts. The Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem, was in charge of arrangements.
Claude M. ‘Pops’ Charbonneau
Claude ‘Pops’ Charbonneau, 85, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at the Huntington Nursing Home in Nashua surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday afternoon, July 11, 2007.
Claude was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on August 5, 1921, son of the late attorney Henry V. and Alice (Pratt) Charbonneau. He was also predeceased by a brother, Yale V. Charbonneau, M.D. and a sister, Alice M. Charbonneau.
He was the husband of Rhona (Shay) Charbonneau of Hudson, with whom he recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Claude served in the U. S. Navy from 1941 to 1945 as a Fireman Second Class. He served on the aircraft carrier Bonhomme Richard and fought in many battles in the South Pacific.
Upon graduation from Lowell Vocational School, Claude worked as a mechanic and then went on to start-up several businesses. This includes; Claude’s Truck Rental, Claude’s Auto Body, and Claude’s Gravel Trucking. These enterprises were the beginning of what is known today as Continental Paving Inc.
Claude was a member of the VFW of Hudson, where he will be long remembered for his fish chowder. He enjoyed restoring and driving his antique cars in local parades and attending flea markets, hunting for automobile parts.
Besides his loving wife Rhona, survivors include his six children, Walter and Rosemary Charbonneau of Merrimack, Claudia Dodds of Cumberland, Maine, Richard and Jill Charbonneau of Litchfield, Mark and Donna Charbonneau of Windham, Rhona and William Wollenhaupt of Hudson, Alida and Kurt West of Concord; eight grandchildren, Michael Charbonneau, Joy Charbonneau, Ryan Charbonneau, Chad Charbonneau, Amy Charbonneau, Stefanie Dodds, Jennifer Dodds, and Ashley Coleman; one great grandson, Evan Coleman; as well as a longtime friend Alida Weergang of Hudson, and his three favorite grand dogs Jack, Daisy, and Bertha.
Visiting Hours were held in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson with a funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church. A private burial was also held. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations to the VFW of Hudson, 15 Bockes Road, Hudson, NH 03051.
Margaret M. (Driscoll) Christian
Margaret M. (Driscoll) Christian, 80, of Windham, died Thursday at her home in Windham.
She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, grew up, and was educated in Revere, Massachusetts. She was a resident of Windham for the past 20 years, formerly of Salem, and Boxford, Massachusetts.
Mrs. Christian was a homemaker. She was a former Lady Lioness in Salem. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Bobby Wayne Christian of Windham; one son, Robert W. “Skip” and his wife, Linda Christian of Salem; five daughters, Marge and her husband Charles Webster of Florida, Bette and her husband John Lopes of Danvers, Massachusetts, Kathlee Liddle of Spring, Texas, Linda DeBoer of Hampstead, and Robin and her husband Ray Peters of Goffstown; 13 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private for the family. Burial will be in cemetery on The Plain in Windham. Arrangements were by the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem.
Thomas H. Clifford, Jr.
Thomas H. Clifford Jr., 82, of Hudson, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 14, 1924, in Arlington, Massachusetts, son of the late Thomas H. and Esther V. (Walsh) Clifford, Sr. Mr. Clifford grew up in Pepperell, Massachusetts, and graduated from Pepperell High School. At one time, he owned gas stations in Pepperell and Merrimack. He was an Army veteran, having served during World War II. He fought in the Calcutta, India Campaign. He was a past member of the Pepperell VFW. He enjoyed traveling and reading.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Luisa (Marciano) Clifford of Hudson; five sons, Thomas H. Clifford III of California, Wayne Clifford of Massachusetts, Joseph Clifford and his wife Virginia of Alabama, Al Mark Clifford and his wife Lynne of Litchfield, and Richard Clifford of Hudson; a daughter, Ginger Clifford of Massachusetts; two brothers, Paul and Steve Clifford, both of California; multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, June 30, at St. Kathryn’s Church in Hudson. Burial was in St. Patrick cemetery in Hudson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38102. The Dumont Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.
Edna L. (Whitney) DePietro
Edna L. (Whitney) DePietro, 89, of Salem, died Wednesday, July 19, 2007 at Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood. Edna had lived in Salem for over 20 years, previously living in Northwood.
Edna was born in Bangor, Maine, the daughter of the late Fannie (Donaldson) and Charles Whitney. She later moved to Everett, Massachusetts and received her Nurse’s Aide Certificate from Chelsea Memorial Hospital. She was a nurse’s aide for Chelsea Memorial Hospital and Grover Manor Nursing Home in Revere, Massachusetts. Edna was a volunteer for the Salem Caregivers and was President of the Millville Arms Association from 1989 - 1994. She enjoyed bowling with the Salem Seniors, doing crafts, and crocheting.
Her husband William J. DePietro and her son William J. DePietro Jr. predeceased Edna.
She is survived by her sons Steven and his wife Joan DePietro of Beverly Hills, Florida. Arthur and his wife Elaine DePietro of Danville, daughter-in-law Patricia DePietro of Salem, eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren
Calling hours were on Monday, July 23 at the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main Street, Salem. A Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, July 24 at the funeral home. Burial followed in Holy Cross cemetery, Malden, Massachusetts.
Sister Ruth Donnelly
Sister Ruth Donnelly (formerly Sister M. Gerard), 84, a Sister of Mercy for 67 years, died Friday, July 20, 2007, at the Warde Health Center in Windham. A native of Manchester, she was the daughter of James and Margaret (Davitt) Donnelly.
Sister Ruth received her Bachelor of Science degree in education from Mount Saint Mary College, Hooksett, and her Master of Arts in education from Keene State College, Keene. She was a dedicated teacher and administrator in Catholic schools throughout New Hampshire. She was a teacher at St. Raphael, St. Joseph, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, and Mt. St. Mary Day School in Manchester; St. Patrick School in Berlin; St. Mary Academy in Dover; and St. Joseph School in Keene. Sister Ruth served as principal at Immaculate Conception School in Penacook, St. Patrick School in Manchester, and St. Christopher School in Nashua.
From 1981 until 1994, Sister Ruth was Personnel Director at St. Teresa’s Manor in Manchester. In May 1993, she was named St. Teresa’s Manor “Special Person.” After she retired to the Warde Health Center in Windham, Sister Ruth served as a driver for the sisters for several years.
Family members include her brother, William Donnelly of Manchester, several nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister Ruth was predeceased by her brothers, Reverend Brendan Donnelly, OSB, and Reverend Gerard Donnelly, OSB, of St. Anselm’s Abbey.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, July 24, in Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at the Warde Health Center. Burial followed in St. Joseph cemetery in Bedford. Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 21 Searles Road, PO Box 420, Windham, NH 03087-0420. Arrangements were by the Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem.
Lee Dumont
Lee (Posey) Dumont, 82, of Hudson died suddenly Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at St. Joseph Hospital.
Born in Falls Church, Virginia, October 24, 1924, she was the daughter of the late William and Ada (Posey) Posey. She was the widow of Joseph Dumont. She was also predeceased by two sons Michael and Butch Dumont and a grandson Derek Dumont.
Lee enjoyed shopping and walking and enjoyed collecting anything pertaining to American Indian Culture. She also collected spoons. She enjoyed cruises and traveling, especially her yearly trip to Virginia to visit family. Lee enjoyed writing poems and songs, and she enjoyed spending time at her grandchildren’s activities.
Survivors include three sons, Daniel Dumont of Hudson, Peter Dumont of Laconia, and Donald Dumont of Hudson; four daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Johnson and her husband Craig of Hudson, Doris Dumont-Constant and her husband Jay of Moultonborough, Angela Schilling and her husband Paul of Hudson, and Tina Lukitsch and her husband Paul of Hudson; a daughter-in-law, Diane Dumont of Nashua; 23 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 28, in the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson. Burial was in St. Patrick cemetery, Hudson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Wildlife Federation, 11100 Wildlife Center Drive, Reston, Virginia 20190.
Peter Gentile
Peter Gentile, 44, of Hudson, died Monday July 23, 2007, at his home in Hudson following a brief illness.
Peter was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 24, 1963, son of Vito Gentile and Mary (Mingolla) Gentile of Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Beloved husband of Elaine Dragoumanos Gentile of Hudson, and father of Grace, 11, Gianna, 9, and Georgie, 7, all of Hudson.
Peter was raised in Rockland, New York, and lived in Hudson. He was the owner of Dahill Postal Center in Londonderry at the Crossroads Mall. He loved his wife, children and music, especially the guitar.
Besides his loving wife, children and parents, he is survived by, a brother Frank Gentile and his wife Laurine of San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Janine Reese of Rogersville, Missouri; also a mother-in-law, Joan Dragoumanos of Tyngsborough, Massachusetts; four sisters-in-law and their husbands and a brother-in-law and his wife, Georgia Dragoumanos, John Dragoumanos and his wife Elizabeth, Bessie Emond and husband Wayne, all of Tyngsborough, and Tina Voutsis and husband Arthur of Greece, Pamela and Ed McNulty of Hudson; three Godchildren, Phillip, Lainnie, and Jack. He also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held at the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson with a Funeral Mass held at St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church. Burial took place in Woodlawn cemetery, Nashua. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Peter Gentile Education Fund, c/o Citizens Bank, 71 Lowell Road, Hudson, NH 03051.
Paula L. (Silva) Halbich
Paula L. (Silva) Halbich, 63, of Salem, died Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at her home.
She was born and educated in Methuen, Massachusetts. She lived in Salem for the past 34 years, formerly of Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Paula was a self-employed hairdresser and worked at Salon 51 in Salem. She was a member of Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem. Paula was very creative and enjoyed working with crafts. She enjoyed watching her daughter play sports, and most of all, she enjoyed spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Fred Halbich of Salem; one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Gina Tahan of Derry; two daughters and a son-in-law, Audra and William Mower of Londonderry and Sara Halbich of Salem; one brother, Phil Silva of Sandown; two sisters, Linda Cardelho and Anita Gillespie, both of Methuen, Massachusetts; and four grandchildren, Alexa, Natalie, Derek, and Jayna.
A funeral mass was celebrated Monday, July 23, at Mary Queen of Peace Church in Salem. Cremation followed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sara C. Halbich College Fund, c/o TD Banknorth, 155 North Broadway, Salem, NH 03079. The Douglas and Johnson Funeral Home in Salem was in charge of arrangements.
Evelyn A. Hughes
Evelyn A. Hughes, 76, a 30-year resident of Pelham, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon at her home.
Born in Utica, New York, May 5, 1931, the daughter of the late John W. and the late Edna (Philkins) Hughes, she attended Clinton, New York, schools and was a graduate of Clinton High School in the Class of 1949. She went on to attend Business College in Utica.
Before retiring due to illness, she was the executive secretary to the business manager of Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. Previously, she was the secretary at the Ruggles Street Baptist Church in Boston, Massachusetts.
Miss Hughes is survived by a dear friend Arlene King and Arlene's family, Courtney King, Cori King of Nashua, Ashley Kovach of Madison, Indiana, and Kristi McClellan of Barrington, and her pet cat Muffin.
At her request, all her funeral services were held privately.
Judith A. (Wolynee) Hutchings
Judith A. (Wolynee) Hutchings, 49, of North Salem, died peacefully Saturday at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack. She was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She grew up and was schooled in Orange, Connecticut and graduated from Amity High School in Woodbridge, Connecticut. She was a resident of North Salem for the past 24 years, formerly of Orange, Connecticut.
Judy was a clerk for the Internal Revenue Service in Methuen, Massachusetts. She also was a teacher for four years at Fellowship Christian Academy in Methuen, Massachusetts. Judy worked in public relations and was a major part of the building of the Field of Dreams Park in Salem. She was a member of the Salem Bible Church in North Salem. She enjoyed tennis and spending time with her family.
Her father Edward R. Wolynee predeceased her. She is survived by her husband Robert Hutchings of North Salem, two sons Caleb Hutchings of North Salem and Joshua Hutchings of North Salem, one daughter Kelly Rose Hutchings of North Salem, mother Margaret (Kelly) Wolynee of Orange, Connecticut, one brother Edward and his wife Lori Wolynee of Bethesda, Maryland, and one sister Beth and her Husband David Dunn of Worcester, Massachusetts.
