Madeline Rufo
Madeline (Anderson) Rufo, 64, of Hudson, died Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at the Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.
Madeline was born September 20, 1942, in Roxbury, Massachusetts, daughter of the late David and Veronica (Tatten) Anderson.
Mrs. Rufo was the loving wife of the late John Henry Rufo who died in September of 2004.
Madeline was a graduate of Brighton High School in Brighton, Massachusetts, and was recently employed as an associate at Wal-Mart in Hudson.
Mrs. Rufo, a wonderful mother and Nana, enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling up north, and attending the Fisherman’s Feast in Boston’s North End with her husband. She also enjoyed watching the television show, Law and Order.
Survivors include a son, Anthony Rufo of Hudson, two daughters and a son-in-law, Jody Rufo of Hudson, and Mary and Bobby Evans of Hudson; two brothers, David Anderson of Brockton, Massachusetts, and John Anderson of Brighton; her sisters Anna Coletti of Billerica, Massachusetts, Mildred Tashjian of Norwood, Massachusetts, as well as several other sisters; four dear grandchildren, Gage Evans, Mariah Evans, Dominic Evans, and Gia Evans all of Hudson, and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 11, 2006 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson. The burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Nashua. The family has requested that in Madeline’s loving memory, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 Rte. 101, Ste. 501, Bedford, NH 03110. The Dumont - Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.
Frances S. (Winn) Drown Hosmer
Frances Stebbins (Winn) Drown Hosmer of Wilsonville, Oregon, and formerly of Hudson and Hollis, died in Wilsonville Tuesday evening, October 24, 2006, after a brief illness.
Born October 3, 1922, in Hudson, she was the daughter of Frank A. and Effie M. (Wyeth) Winn. She attended elementary school in Hudson and was a 1940 graduate of Nashua High School.
Frances continued her education at the Leland Powers School of Radio, Theatre, and Television in Boston, graduating in 1941. As a teenager, she worked under the direction of Don Caswell of WFEA radio in Manchester primarily with the production of plays related to New Hampshire history. She also hosted the young talent radio show “Miniature Minstrels in Nashua.
She was a charter member of the Rainbow for Girls Chapter Assembly #9 in Nashua. Frances married
Alton L. Drown of Ellenburg Depot, New York, in 1942, and lived in Ellenburg for several years. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, Worthy Matron, Mount Hermon Chapter 653 in Ellenburg. Frances and Alton returned to Hudson in 1949 and were active members of the Hudson Players and the Hudson Community Church for many years.
Locals may remember the fire that took the family farm barns on Lowell Road, Christmas Eve, 1958. Fran was also co-owner of the Winnsted Restaurant and a partner in the Winnsted Acres residential development in Hudson.
Fran worked for Anheuser Busch in Merrimack as a QA Technician for 13 years. She married
Charles W. Hosmer of Hollis and Littleton, Massachusetts, in 1981, and they were Hollis residents. Fran and Charlie moved to Wilsonville, Oregon, in1998 where they made many good friends in the Spring Ridge retirement community. Mr. Hosmer died in February 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Ann (Drown) Leland Post of Wilsonville, Oregon, and N. Jeanne (Drown) Isaacs of Irvine, California; two sons-in-law, Gayle E. Post and Jeffrey A. Isaacs; one grandson, Jonathan B. Isaacs, and one step-granddaughter, Audrey C. Post, both of Irvine; one sister, Effie M. (Winn) Oban Torrey of Wolfeboro, ; one nephew; Richard C. Oban of New Durham; and one niece, Nancy G. (Schindler) Goedecke of Bedford Also two grand-nephews, Herbert Goedecke and Peter Goedecke of Bedford one grand-niece, Andrea (Oban) Lester of Troy, New York, and several other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. Mrs. Hosmer was predeceased by a sister, Lillian E. (Winn) Schindler, who died in 1966.
Graveside services were held at Sunnyside cemetery in Hudson on October 28. Donations may be made in her memory to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, 24 Ferry Road, Nashua, NH 03064. Arrangements were in the care of the Farwell Funeral Service in Nashua.
Raban Anthony Kimungu
U. S. Marine Corps Private First Class Raban Anthony Kimungu, 24, of Hudson died on October 27, 2006, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born in Kenya, East Africa, on July 31, 1982, a son of Peninnah Kimungu Jones of Hudson. He had lived in Hudson since 1994, previously residing in Nashua.
Private Kimungu was serving in the U. S. Marine Corps and had recently returned in April from a tour of duty in Iraq where he served as a mortarman. He was wounded in combat. He had been awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Ribbon.
He enjoyed music especially reggae and playing football and basketball. Mr. Kimungu also enjoyed being with his friends, snowboarding, canoeing, and camping.
He was a member of St. Stephen’s Church in Lowell, Massachusetts.
He graduated from Alvirne High School, Class of 2001 in Hudson and upon graduation enlisted in the Marine Corps.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his twin sister Leah Kimungu and two other sisters Nancy Muiruri and her husband Wilfred and Martha Karugu all of Hudson; two nephews Anthony Muiruri and Alex Muiruri both of Hudson; his grandmother Zipporah Kimungu of Kenya; numerous aunts and uncles including Kariuki Kimungu and Joyce Kimungu both of Hudson; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held at the First Church (Congregational) U.C.C., One Concord Street, Nashua on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.. Bernadette Smith
Bernadette (Pelletier) (Daigle) Smith, 81, of Talent Road in Litchfield died Thursday, October 26, 2006, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack.
Mrs. Smith was born December 6, 1924, in St. John, Maine, daughter of the late Fred Z. and Alvia (Michaud) Pelletier. She was a longtime resident of Bangor, Maine.
She was the widow of her first husband, Joel L. Daigle, whom she married
in 1944, and the widow of her second husband, Ted Smith, whom she married
in 1978 and who died in 1980.
Mrs. Smith taught at John Bapst High School in Bangor until 1967 and continued her teaching career at Bangor High School until 1984. Upon retirement from teaching, she worked part time for the Department of Homeland Security in U. S. Customs at Bangor International Airport until this year.
Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Mary Catholic Parish in Bangor for 49 years.
Besides her husbands and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Lorene, and a brother, Roland.
Survivors include two daughters, Dr. Marsha Daigle-Williamson and her husband, Dr. Peter Williamson, of Anne Arbor, Michigan, and Patricia Daigle Guerrette, with whom she made her home during her illness, and her husband, Daniel Guerrette, of Litchfield; a son, Dale Daigle and his wife, Polly Sommerfield Daigle of Rock Hill, Maryland; three grandchildren, Jessica Guerrette, Joseph Guerrette and his wife, Jessica, and Dr. Janna Guerrette; a great grandson, Ryan Guerrette; a sister, Patricia Michaud and her husband, Neil, of Port Charlotte, Florida; a brother, Robert Pelletier and his wife, Judy of Bridgton, Maine, three stepchildren, Peggy Zezula of Canada, Susan Long and Steve Smith both of Florida; several step-children and great-grandchildren; a special friend, Reginald Gray of Bangor; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marion D. (Dansevich) Smith
Marion D. (Dansevich) Smith, 92, of Hudson, died at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson on October 27, 2006.
Mrs. Smith was born on August 5, 1914, in Nashua, a daughter of the late Peter and Agnes (Grigas) Dansevich. She has been a resident of Hudson for over 60 years prior to which she lived in Nashua.
She was the widow of Gordon L. Smith, who died on December 14, 1989.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother. At one time, she worked as the head of the Burling Department at the former Nashua Manufacturing Co. In later years, she did work part time at her husband’s company, the former Smith’s Kitchen Center.
At one time, she was a communicant of St. Casmir Church in Nashua and also attended the Hudson Community Church. She was also a member of the Althea Club.
Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Nashua High School.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Stephanie “Fannie” Webster and a brother, William Dorson.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James W. Hayes of Hudson; a granddaughter, Kimberlie M. Hayes and her boyfriend Joseph Pickering both of Manchester; a sister Amelia “Nellie” Levesque of Nashua; a cousin, Melvina Lapin of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews, Ann Brooke Smith of Hudson, Craig R. Smith of North Carolina, Lorraine Young and Joyce Cloutier Notides, both of Hudson, Bill Dorson of Arizona, Jo Ann Dorson Mohair of New Mexico, John Webster of Northfield, Kathy Pratt of Salem and Michael Levesque of South Carolina; and several grandnieces and grandnephews and great grandnieces and great grandnephews.
A graveside funeral service was held at Hills Farms cemetery in Hudson on Tuesday afternoon. Mary Victoria (Quigley) Eckhardt
Mary Victoria (Quigley) Eckhardt, 72, of 19 Hackleboro Road, Canterbury, died of cancer on October 19, 2006, at the Merrimack County Nursing Home, Boscawen. She was born May 23, 1934, in Boston, Massachusetts, the first child of Dr. John Quigley, a longtime Nashua physician, and his wife Victoria. Mary graduated from Alvirne High School in Hudson in 1952. She attended Simmons College in Boston, and Middlesex Community College in Bedford, Massachusetts, where she earned a degree in Medical Technology. She was united in marriage to Donald H. Eckhardt in Aurora, Colorado, on November 18, 1955. Mary and Donald spent the first years of their marriage living in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Caracas, Venezuela. In 1959 they settled in Bedford, where they raised two sons and two daughters. Thirty-four years later, they moved to Weare, and in 1998 to Canterbury Center, where they had built their retirement home. Mary passionately dedicated her life to her family. Her four children and her 10 grandchildren (seven of them living nearby in New Hampshire) were her great joy in life.
Mary is survived by her husband, Donald; their son and his wife, Ronald Eckhardt and Scharine Kirchoff of Houston, Texas; their daughter and her husband, Raina Eckhardt Fitzgerald and Joseph Fitzgerald of Concord; their son and his wife, Randall and Stacey Eckhardt of Springfield, Virginia; their daughter and her husband, Rebecca and Philip Rose of Kingston; and 10 grandchildren, Erin Fitzgerald, Tara Fitzgerald, Sean Fitzgerald, Meaghan Fitzgerald, Garick Eckhardt, Anna Eckhardt, Conrad Eckhardt, Patrick Rose, Connor Rose, and Ryan Rose. She is also survived by her brothers Dr. David Quigley, Seekonk, Massachusetts; William Quigley, Haverhill, Massachusetts; Richard Quigley, Taunton, Massachusetts; and Charles Quigley, Hudson; and by her sisters Priscilla Abbott, Hudson; Sarah Vath, Milford; Rachel Denner, Nashua; and Ruth Barrieau, Sanbornton.
Funeral services for Mary Eckhardt were held at October 24, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Concord followed by a memorial at the Maple Grove cemetery in Canterbury.

Stephen C. Garside
Stephen C. Garside, 41, of Nashua, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at his residence.
He was born February 5, 1965, in Nashua, son of Frederick and Cynthia (Widner) Garside of Hudson.
Stephan was a longtime employee of New Hampshire Boring Company, based in Londonderry. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America and was Troop Leader of Nashua Troop #773. He loved camping and enjoyed fishing with his son, father, and brothers. He also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends as well as watching sports on television. Stephan enjoyed working with kids and loved spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving father and Uncle and will be missed by all who knew him.
Besides his loving parents, survivors include a dear son, Kristopher Garside of Nashua; two brothers and a sister-in-law, William “Bill” Garside of Londonderry, and Phillip and Becky Garside of Hudson; two sisters, Lisa Wilhelmi of Hudson and Patricia Garside of Hillsborough; his son’s mother, Christine Siciliano of Nashua; a paternal grandmother, Madeliene Garside of Concord; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, October 23 in St. Kathryn Church, 6 Dracut Road in Hudson. Burial was in Sunny Side cemetery, Hudson. The Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home in Hudson was in charge of arrangements.
Andrew E. Szemplinski
Andrew E. Szemplinski, 81, a resident of Hudson, died Saturday, October 21, 2006, after an illness. He was the loving husband of Mira R. (Jaworska) Szemplinski with whom he was married
for 28 years.
He was born in Warsaw, Poland on August 13, 1925, a son of the late Joseph and the late Eugena (Strogonoff) Szemplinski. Mr. Szemplinski was a Polish Army veteran serving in World War II in the mechanized division. During World War II he also served as an Army firefighter in Warsaw from 1942 until 1944. He was captured as a Prisoner of War for 12 months.
Mr. Szemplinski emigrated from Poland to Lowell in 1968. He was employed by the Feldman Company in Boston where he worked as a civil engineer. In 1984 he moved to New Jersey where he worked as a land surveyor. He retired to Windham in 1991.
He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Trinity in Lowell. During his retirement he authored three books written in the Polish language and published in Poland.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Jacek Szemplinski and his wife, Maria of Alton; two daughters, Anna Keena of Windham and Ela, wife of Richard Lewandowski of Derry; six grandchildren, Maciek, Andrea, Mark, Amanda, John and Ula; his former wife, Wanda Szemplinski of Windham; and many nephews and nieces.
Leo G. ‘Rocky’ Viens
Leo G. “Rocky” Viens, 70, of Hudson, died Sunday, October 15, 2006, at St. Joseph Hospital after a sudden illness.
Born in Suncook, August 16, 1936, he was the son of the late Adelard and Levanie (Melanson) Viens. He was the husband of Priscilla (Comeau) Viens of Hudson with whom he had been married
to for 49 years.
Mr. Viens at one time was employed by the former Nashua Beef Co. and retired from the City of Nashua BPW in 2002 after l5 years of service. He then worked part time with NAPA Auto Parts in Nashua.
Mr. Viens was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist church and was also a member of the Lafayette Club and the Club National. He also enjoyed camping, playing horseshoes and going to antique car shows.
Besides his wife Priscilla, survivors include three sons and a daughter-in-law Daniel Viens and his fiancé Marilyn Matuza of Nashua, Michael Viens of Londonderry and Roger and Shawn Viens of Pittsfield; a daughter and son-in-law Elaine and Charles Davidson of Hudson, three brothers and four sisters-in-law Gerard Viens of Nashua, Maurice and Carol Viens of Hudson, Tony and Katie Viens of Pelham, Rita Viens of Hudson, and Winnifred Viens of Staten Island, New York; a sister, Theresa Gagnon of Nashua, and brother-in-law Rene Beauchesne of Suncook; three grandchildren Laura Davidson, Stephen Viens, Crystal Viens; four step grandchildren, Richard Davidson, Gordon Davidson, Jessica Gaudette, Justin Flanagan, one great-grandson, Ivan Lorenzo Davidson; two great-granddaughters, Alyssa Lynn Davidson and Ellie Anne Whiting; one step great-granddaughter Riley Ann Davison; a godson, Norman Lavoie; and several nephews and nieces.
He was also predeceased by two brothers, Andre and Richard Viens, and a sister, Laurette Beauchesne.
