Edward J. Glasson

Edward J. Glasson, 74, of South Street in Concord, died Thursday at Concord Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in New York City, the son of Edward and Mildred (Wilson) Glasson.
He had lived in Tempe, Ariz., for more than 30 years.
He was a graduate of the New England College Class of 1951 and the University of California at Pomona School of Management.
He served in the military for 10 years and was a veteran of World War II with the U.S. Navy.
He was awarded the American Theater Medal, the European Theater Medal and the Victory Medal.
He was employed at General Dynamics in Pomona, Calif., for 12 years as an employment manager.
He also worked at Motorola in Phoenix for 15 years as a director of recruiting.
He was a member of the City of Hope Foundation and the United Fund Executive Staff in Phoenix and was also active as a coach in the Little League and Pony League baseball and the Pop Warner Football league in southern California.
In 1966, he coached the ISL Softball World Champions.
He was the founder of the Industrial Recreation Association and the Employment Managers Association in southern California.
He is survived by his mother, of Long Island, N.Y.; his wife of 50 years, Phyllis (Lanigan) Glasson of Concord; two sons, James Glasson of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Michael Glasson of Tempe, Ariz.; four daughters, Maureen Leonhardt and Kathleen Daugherty, both of Tempe, Ariz., Mary Mulligan of North Providence, R.I., and Claire Glasson of Elizabeth City, N.C.; eight grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; five sisters, Dorothy Gamble of Wayne, N.J., Elaine Werthimer, Anne Salvato and Linda Smith, all of Long Island, N.Y., and Frances Weeks of Silver City, N.M.; and a brother, Raymond Churchill.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 S. Main St., Concord.
The Rev. Donald Clinton will be the celebrant.
Burial will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Parish, 72 S. Main St., Concord 03301.
The Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Christine Foster, CANTERBURY

CANTERBURY - Christine D. Foster, 76, died yesterday at Canterbury Hall in Canterbury.
She was born in Asheville, N.C., the daughter of Alonzo and Gertrude (Wiggins) Duckett.
She had lived in Greenville, S.C., with her husband, Henry Foster, until 1996, when she moved to Canterbury.
She was a volunteer for many years at the Greenville (S.C.) Little Theater.
She was also a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church choir in Greenville, N.C., for more than 30 years.
She was a volunteer with the YMCA swim team program in Greenville, S.C.
She was an avid reader and knitter and was a staunch fan of the University of North Carolina basketball team.
She also enjoyed the arts, particularly theater and orchestral and choral music.
She is survived by a daughter, Catherine Foster-Smith of Chichester; three sons, Randolph Foster of Concord, N.C., David Foster of Las Vegas and Brian Foster of Berkeley, Calif; and three grandchildren.
There are no calling hours.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Joseph Irwin, CANTERBURY

CANTERBURY - Joseph Irwin, 89, of Baptist Road and formerly of Waterbury, Conn., died Wednesday at his daughter's home.
He was born in Ardmore, Pa., the son of Joseph and Helen (Buck) Irwin.
He lived in Waterbury, Conn., for more than 60 years.
He moved to Canterbury 15 years ago.
He served as a major with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during World War II.
He graduated from the University of Alabama and also attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He was a spectroscopist for Anaconda/American Brass Co. in Waterbury, Conn., for many years.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Edith (Wood) Irwin, in 1998; and a sister, Kate Flynn.
He is survived by a daughter, Ethel Hull of Canterbury; a sister, Marge Fitzpatrick of Monument Beach, Mass.; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 11 a.m. to noon at the Waters Funeral Home, 50 S. Main St., Concord.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow at noon at the chapel of the funeral home.
The Rev. William Keeffe will officiate.
There also will be calling hours and a funeral service held in the spring at the Munson-Lovetere Funeral Home in Woodbury, Conn.
Burial will be held in the New North Cemetery in Woodbury, Conn.
Anna G. Hodgdon, PORTSMOUTH

PORTSMOUTH - Anna G. (Randall) Hodgdon, 91, of Jones Avenue and formerly of Newington, died Feb. 20 at Sunbridge Care of Portsmouth.
She was born in Portsmouth, the daughter of Donald and L. May (Worthen) Randall.
She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1926, where she was awarded the Haven Medal for general excellence for four years.
She also attended the University of New Hampshire.
She was employed in the office of Morley Co. for 15 years.
During World War II, she was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, after which she worked for the Internal Revenue Service.
She was a member of the North Congregational Church.
She is survived by five nieces and nephews, Judith Burr of Waltham, Mass., Marion Clare of Exeter, Donald Randall of Hopkinton, and Philip Hodgdon and Richard Hodgdon, both of Portsmouth; a sister-in-law, Florence Randall of Penacook; and a close friend, Nancy Newick of Newington.
There will be no calling hours.
Funeral services will be held March 4 at 2 p.m. at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth.
Robert T. Mitchell, HILLSBORO

HILLSBORO - Robert T. Mitchell, 85, of Danforth Corners Road, died yesterday at the Laurel Center Genesis Elder Care in Bedford.
He was born in Springfield, Mass., the son of Walter and Lona (Linsey) Mitchell.
He lived in Hillsboro for most of his life.
He worked for the Crane families on their farms in Hillsboro.
He attended the Smith Memorial Congregational Church in Hillsboro and was a member of their Lunch Bunch.
He is survived by nieces, nephews and the Crane families.
There are no calling hours. Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
The Rev. Beth Ernest will be officiating.
Interment will be held privately.
