Melvin W. Chase, NEWARK, Del.

Friday, October 22, 1999

NEWARK, Del. - Melvin W. Chase, 89, of Newark, Del., died Wednesday. Formerly of Concord, he was a resident of Millcroft Retirement Community.

He was a graduate of the Boston University School of Business, and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi. He was also president of the George L. Lincoln Furniture Co., and was involved in many activities in the Concord area. He served in World War II in China and retired as a colonel in the Army Reserve.

He was a life member of the New Hampshire Genealogical Society and helped develop the genealogical volunteer program at the state Bureau of Vital Records. He also was a life member of the New England Historical Genealogical Society, the Merrimack County Society of Genealogists, the New Hampshire Historical Society, the Charlotte County Historical Society, the Humbolt County Historical Society, and the Reserve Officers Association. He was also a member of the National Model Railroad Association and the American Philatelic Society.

He was a 60-year mason, and a member of Blazing Star Lodge No. 11, F.&A.M.; a life-long member of the National Sojourners; and a charter member of Profile College No. 100, York Rite. He was a member of Mount Horeb Commandery No. 3, the New Hampshire Past Commanders Association, and Granite State Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine.

He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Marguerite Chase.

He is survived by two sons, Leon Chase of Clearwater, Fla., and Melvin Chase of Newark, Del.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday at Robert T. Foard Funeral Home, Newark, Del., with a Masonic Memorial Observance at 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the American Cancer Society or to The Hospice of the Delaware Valley.

Paul E. DeRochemont, NEW BOSTON

Friday, October 22, 1999

NEW BOSTON - Paul E. DeRochemont, 65, of Joe English Road, died Wednesday.

He was born in Portsmouth, the son of Orville and Phylis (Goodwin) DeRochemont. He had been a resident of New Boston for the past 30 years.

He worked with Public Service Company of New Hampshire for 29 years as a mechanic. He was also a 20-year member of the New Boston Police Department having served as assistant chief. He was a veteran of the Army.

After retiring, he worked part-time at Dobles Chevrolet and Autofair, both of Manchester.

He was a member of the New Boston Fire Department and Law Enforcement Association. He also had been an active league bowler at Kings Lanes for many years.

He was predeceased by a step-mother, Virginia (Giles) DeRochemont.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Romono (Kluesener) DeRochemont of New Boston; two sons, Troy DeRochemont of Weare and Todd DeRochemont of New Boston; three daughters, Tammy Paul of Goffstown, Tina DeRochemont of New Boston, and Tanya DeRochemont of New Boston; five grandchildren; two brothers, Orville DeRochemont of South Berwick, Maine, and Ronald DeRochemont of Rye; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at French & Rising Funeral Home, 17 S. Mast St., Goffstown. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Boston Fire Department or the New Boston Police Department.

French & Rising Funeral Home of Goffstown is in charge of arrangements.

Leo H. Charbonneau, MANCHESTER

Friday, October 22, 1999

MANCHESTER - Leo H. Charbonneau, 71, of Manchester, died Wednesday at Eliot Hospital after a period of failing health.

He was born in Auburn, the son of Joseph and Aline (Veilleau) Charbonneau. He lived in Manchester for most of his life.

He graduated from Saint Anthony High School in Manchester.

He was employed with Scottie Industries for 15 years and later worked as a machinist with Velcro, USA, in Manchester, for 10 years. He retired in 1995.

He was a longtime communicant of Saint Anthony Church, where he served as a hospitality minister. He was actively involved in the Manchester West Side Senior Center and the Senior Friends of Parkland Medical Center in Derry. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.

He was predeceased by two grandchildren, Kevin Charbonneau and Taylor Theberge.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cecile (Girouard) Charbonneau of Manchester; two sons, Roger Charbonneau of Hooksett, and Lionel Charbonneau of Goffstown; two daughters, Jeanne Brissette of Penacook, and Doris Theberge of Gilford; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rhea Caldwell of Manchester, Genevieve Crotty of Manchester, Doris Simpson of Manchester, and Pauline Burke of Manchester; a half-brother, Laudana Charbonneau of Chicopee, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Connor-Healy Funeral Home, 537 Union St., Manchester.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Anthony Church.

Urn burial will take place in St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.

Courtesy local transportation for the afternoon calling hours will be provided on request by contacting Daniel Healy at 622-8223.

Diane M. Reed, FRANKLIN

Friday, October 22, 1999

FRANKLIN - Diane M. Reed, 50, of Central Street, died Wednesday at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia after a six-month battle with cancer.

She was born in Franklin, the daughter of William and Mildred (Yeo) Dillon.

She was a lifelong Franklin resident, and she graduated from Bishop Brady High School in Concord in 1966.

She worked as a certified nurses aide for the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen for many years, and she also worked for Merrill Manor Nursing Home and Sunny Knoll in Franklin.

Before she became ill, she worked in the housekeeping department of the Peabody Home in Franklin.

She was a caregiver for most of her life and cared for area children in her home.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin.

In addition to her parents of Franklin, she is survived by her husband, Charles Reed Sr. of Franklin; four sons, Peter Aube Jr., Charles Reed Jr., and Dana Reed all of Franklin, and Adam Reed of Northfield; three grandchildren; five sisters, Susan Giambrone of Lisbon Falls, Maine, Sally Dillon of Penacook, Kelly Chandonnait of Franklin, Penny Woodward of Manchester, and Mindy Normand of Northfield; two brothers, William Dillon III of Claremont and James Dillon of Franklin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be held tonight from 7 to 9 in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin. The Rev. William Babineau will be the celebrant. Burial will take place after the Mass in Holy Cross Cemetery in Franklin.

Donations may be made to the Resident Fund at the Peabody Home, 24 Peabody Place, Franklin 03235.

Marguerite L. Brown, HENNIKER

Thursday, October 21, 1999

HENNIKER - Marguerite L. Brown, 93, died Monday at the Genesis Harris Hill Nursing Home in Concord.

She was the daughter of Orson and Florence (Burnham) Blodgett.

She was a lifelong resident of Henniker.

She graduated from Henniker High School in 1923 and from the University of New Hampshire in 1927.

She was a member of the Henniker Historical Society.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Brown; as well as two sons, Alan Brown and Eric Brown, and a daughter, Marian Bean.

She is survived by a son, John Brown of Henniker; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a niece; and two nephews.

There will be no calling hours.

Graveside services will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. in the Henniker New Cemetery. The Rev. Bryce Cleveland will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Henniker Historical Society, P.O. Box 674, Henniker 03242, or the Henniker Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 91, Henniker 03242.

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home of Henniker is in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Sweatt, BRISTOL, Conn.

Thursday, October 21, 1999

BRISTOL, Conn. - Elizabeth Sweatt, 82, a former area resident, died Tuesday at Bristol, Conn., Hospital.

She was born in Concord, the daughter of Edward and Sarah (Davis) Bunker.

She was raised in Concord, and moved to Bristol, Conn., in 1956.

She was employed by Hildreth Press for 25 years before retiring.

She was a member of the Terryville Congregational Church.

She is survived by a son, Eugene Sweatt Jr., of Fayetteville, N.C.; three daughters, Annalee Wenslow of Terryville, N.C., Beverly Kuzmich of Bristol, Conn., and Nancy O'Niell of Escondido, Calif.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Barbara Hall of Manchester.

Calling hours will be held tomorrow from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Funk Funeral Home, 35 Belleview Ave., Bristol, Conn.

A panikhida service will be held tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

A committal service and burial will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Blossom Hill Cemetery, Concord.
