Elizabeth "Betty" Fenderson
Elizabeth "Betty" Fenderson, 63, of Freedom passed away March 30, 2001 at her home after a brief illness. She was born November 4, 1937 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of the late Frederick Moore and Beatrice (Colby) Knox. Betty had lived in West Ossipee for many years before moving to Effingham and Freedom. She had been employed as a Nurse's Aide at the Mountain View Nursing Home, Ossipee for several years. She was the widow of the late Robert Fenderson.
Betty is survived by her loving daughters Debra Williams of Freedom and Cindy Cook of Tamworth; two granddaughters Telie Shannon and Melissa Cox; four great-grandsons; a brother Douglas Thurston of Center Ossipee; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside services will be held in the Chickville Cemetery, Center Ossipee, in the Spring.

Ethel (Bean) Fernald
OSSIPEE - Ethel (Bean) Fernald, 95, formerly of Center Ossipee, died May 1, 2000, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
She was born on May 31, 1904, in Chester, Vt. and had lived in Ossipee for most of her life. She was a member of the Moultonville Methodist Church in Center Ossipee and a past member of the Moultonville Methodist Church Ladies Club.
She was the widow of the late Leon F. Fernald of Ossipee.
Mrs. Fernald had worked as a salesperson for the Avon and Fuller Brush Company for six years.
She is survived by several cousins and a special friend and her guardian for many years, Sandra J. Montgomery.
There will be no calling hours. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Moultonville Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Chickville Cemetery in Center Ossipee.

Charles E. "Ed" Houghton Jr.
PORTSMOUTH - Charles E. "Ed" Houghton Jr., 87, of Wolfeboro, died April 28, 2000, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth after a sudden illness.
Born in Hyde Park, Mass., the son of Charles and Helen (Aborn) Houghton, he grew up in Norwood, Mass., and had lived in Shreveport, La., for four years and in Westwood, Mass., for seven years. Mr. Houghton lived in Intervale for 47 years before moving to Wolfeboro in 1998.
He graduated from Norwood (Mass.) High School, Class of 1930, attended Pratt Institute in New York City and graduated from Colby College, Waterville, Maine, in 1935. He also attended Harvard Law School.
Mr. Houghton had been plant manager in the roofing industry for 13 years and he owned and operated the Holiday Inn in Intervale for 26 years before returning in 1976.
He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega at Colby College, a charter member of the Optimist Club in Shreveport, La., a member and past president of the North Conway Rotary Club and former treasurer of the Lower Bartlett Water Precinct.
Mr. Houghton was an avid skier, a charter member of the Westwood (Mass.) Ski Club and a member and instructor at the Eastern Slope Ski Club Junior Ski Program.
The family includes his wife of 65 years, Winnifred (White) Houghton of Wolfeboro; a daughter, Patricia A. "Patsy" Marr of South Natick, Mass.; a son, Charles E. "Ted" Houghton III of Port Republic, Md.; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Center Ossipee with the Rev. Leon Cone officiating. Private burial will be in the Intervale Cemetery in Bartlett. There will be no visiting hours.

Maurice B. "Jim" Kimball
Maurice B. "Jim" Kimball, 87, of Conway, died January 1, 2000 at Memorial Hospital in North Conway, following a long illness.
Born in Haverhill, the son of Ray and Lottie (St. Clair) Kimball, he lived in Sugar Hill for four years before moving to Conway in 1939. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Kimball had been a caretaker for the Edwin Neville Estate and the Benjamin Gerson Estate, in the Conway area, for many years. He had also been a RFD substitute mail carrier for nearly twenty years in the Conway area. He was one of the founders of the Center Conway Fire Department and a former fire chief.
He had been active with the State of N.H. Grange for 55 years, having been a member of Pink Granite Grange in North Haverhill; member and past master of the Saco Valley Grange in Center Conway; and member and past master of the White Mountain Pomona Grange in Madison.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and former member of the Carroll County Fish, Game and Shooting Club in Madison.
The family includes: his wife of 68 years, Agnes B. Kimball of Conway; a son, Roger M. Kimball of Conway; a daughter, Jeannette K. Blake of Center Conway; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a brother, Howard B. Kimball of Concord; several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours are today, Tuesday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Wesley E. Palmer, officiating. Burial will be in the Horse Meadow Cemetery in North Haverhill at 2:30 p.m.

William J. Wickers
William J. Wickers, 69, of Conway, died November 3, 1999 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, following a long illness. He was born in Beverly, Mass., the son of Thomas and Anna Novak Wickers Jr., and lived in Essex, Mass., for 21 years before moving to Conway in 1977. He graduated from Beverly, Mass., High School.
Mr. Wickers was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and fought in the Chosin Campaign in North Korea.
He was an equipment installer for the New England Telephone Company for 35 years in New Hampshire, Maine and Massachusetts.
He was a member of the New England and National Chapter of the Chosin Few, and a life member and former chaplain of the D.A.V. He was also a member of the I.B.E.W. and the Telephone Pioneers.
His family includes his wife of 44 years, Patricia J. Wickers of Conway; five daughters, Carolyn V. Fennell of Harwich, Mass., Pamela A. Beck of Conway, Linda J.W. French of Gloucester, Mass., Jeannette L. Wickers of Conway, and Michele M. Wickers of Bartlett; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas J. Wickers III of Trumball, Conn., and Francis A. Wickers of Beverly, Mass.; his mother-in-law, Virginia C. Porter of Conway; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home, North Conway. Kevin Louis Wight
Kevin Louis Wight, 25, of Fryeburg, died suddenly at his home on Easter Sunday, April 4, 1999. He was born January 23, 1974 in Bridgton, Maine, the son of Allan and Beverly McAlister Wight.
He attended Lovell grammar school and was a graduate of Fryeburg Academy, class of 1992. He enjoyed reading adventure stories, gun books and Civil War stories. He loved to hunt, fish, and target shoot with his father and younger brother.
His family includes his parents, and a brother, Chris, all of Fryeburg; his maternal grandmother, Mary Kimball of Stow, Maine; his paternal grandfather, Lester Wight of North Sebago, Maine; aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A celebration of Kevin's life for family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 10 at the Mountain Valley Pavilion in North Fryeburg. Arrangements are by Wood Funeral Home of Fryeburg.
Gladys E. Russell
Gladys E. Russell, 80, died in her home in East Conway on Monday, April 5, 1999, after a long illness.
Born in Nashua, she was the daughter of the late Charles Russell and Esther Crockett Russell.
Mrs. Russell was a member of the Saco Valley Lanes bowling league and was an avid walker. She attended Assembly of God Church in Fryeburg.
She resided in Laconia from 1925 to 1977 after which time she moved to East Conway.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Fryeburg.
Linda J. Davis Lawrence
Linda J. Davis Lawrence, 56, died Friday, April 2, 1999 of a long-term illness. Born in Wolfeboro and raised in Center Ossipee, she was a graduate of Kennett High School and completed studies at Fitchburg State College.
She worked for many years for A.W. Perry Co. in Hingham, Mass., and managed their Exec-U Center. She also managed their Modular Home Park in Kingston, Mass.
She was a twenty-year resident of Hingham, Mass.
Her family includes four daughters, Desiree Lawrence, Tina Dowling, Audrey Lawrence, and Beth Thorne, all of Hingham, Mass; a brother, Merland Davis of Freedom; two nephews, Walter Davis of Tamworth, Alan Davis of Effingham; two nieces, Gloria Yeaton of Merrimack and Joanne Canney of North Conway.
A church service will be held at St. John's Episcopal Church, 172 Main St., Hingham, Mass. at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 10. A graveside service will be held in Freedom at a later date.
