Clifton L. Moore, PITTSFIELD

Thursday, April 29, 1999

PITTSFIELD - Clifton L. Moore, 88, of Leavitt Road, died Tuesday at Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia.

He was born in Laconia, the son of Guy and Frances (Andrews) Moore. He had lived in Pittsfield since 1995. Prior to that, he had lived in New Port Richie, Fla., from 1978 to 1985. He had lived most of his life in Gilford and lived for a short time in Belmont.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 904th Signal Depot Company.

He worked for Scott & Williams for 39 years, retiring in 1967 as a photo lithographer. He had also worked for Tyler Press for 11 years after his retirement.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Laconia-Gilford, and a member of the 904th Signal Depot Company.

Survivors include his wife, Helen (Elliott) Moore of Pittsfield; three sons, Stephen Moore of Concord, Richard Moore of Gilford and David Moore of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two daughters, Carol Elkins of Pittsfield and Cathy Thayer of Buford, Ga.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Earl Wells of Roswell, Ga.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 500 Gilford Ave., Gilford, on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Huntley Halvorson, pastor of the church, officiating.

Burial will take place after the service in the family lot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 500 Gilford Ave., Gilford 03246.

The Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, is in charge of arrangements.

Edith C. Chandler

Thursday, April 29, 1999

Private graveside services for the family of Edith C. Chandler, who died Jan. 1, will be held Saturday in the Hopkinton Old Cemetery, Hopkinton. The Rev. Hays Junkin, pastor of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, will officiate.

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home, Contoocook, is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce A. Mangouranen, FRANKLIN

Thursday, April 29, 1999

FRANKLIN - Joyce A. Mangouranen, 65, of Hill Road, died Tuesday at the Franklin Regional Hospital after a long illness.

She was born in Mars Hill, Maine, the daughter of Guy and Alice (Kennedy) Biggar. She lived in Boscawen for a short time and later moved to Franklin in 1968, where she lived the rest of her life.

She graduated from the Maine Medical Center Nursing School, Portland, and was a registered nurse. She retired as a nursing supervisor at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen, where she worked for more than 17 years.

She was a member of the American Nursing Association, as well as the Central Baptist Church in Franklin, where she was the pianist and organist.

She is survived by her husband, Nathaniel Mangouranen of Franklin; a daughter, Ruth Duquette of Penacook; two sons, Nathan Mangouranen and Guy Mangouranen, both of Franklin; two grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond Biggar of Manchester, Mass., Robert Biggar of Decatur, Ga., and James Biggar of Atkinson; four sisters, Eleanor Grant of Island Falls, Maine, Georgia Shaw of Stanton, Calif., Carolyn Hunter of Franklin, and Marcia Segerson of Dover-Foxcroft, Maine; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be tomorrow from 7 to 9 p.m. in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road, Tilton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Central Baptist Church, Hill Road, West Franklin, with the Rev. Douglas Andrews, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be at a later date.

Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, N.H. Affiliate Inc., 249 Canal St., Manchester 03101.

Raymond Dawson, NORTHFIELD

Thursday, April 29, 1999

NORTHFIELD - Raymond "Bruce" Dawson, 74, of Concord Road, died Monday at Franklin Regional Hospital.

He was born in Chelsea, Mass., the son of Hugh and Irene (Williams) Dawson. He was raised in Revere, Mass., and later lived in Stoneham, Mass., for many years before moving to Northfield in 1979.

During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He was employed by the Stoneham Post Office from 1950 to 1979.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred (Monson) Dawson of Northfield; two sons, Donald Dawson of Stoneham, Mass., and Richard Dawson of Voorheesville, N.Y.; a daughter, Sandra Riveron of Maineville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Hugh Dawson and William Dawson, both of Holmes Beach, Fla.; a sister, Harriet Keyser of Holmes Beach, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services will be held tomorrow with the Rev. Robert Fisher officiating.

Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Paquette-Neun Funeral Home, Northfield, is in charge of arrangements.

Guy E. Cogswell Jr.

Thursday, April 29, 1999

Graveside services for Guy E. Cogswell Jr., who died Jan. 14, will be held today at 10 a.m. in the Henniker New Cemetery, Henniker. The Rev. Russ Rowland, pastor of the Henniker Congregational Church, will officiate.

The Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home, Henniker, is in charge of arrangements.

Violet Petrie, PEMBROKE

PEMBROKE - Violet Petrie, 88, of Route 28, died Monday in Concord Hospital.

She was born in Northbridge, Mass., the daughter of William and Clara (Hopkins) Forsythe. She lived in Whitinsville, Mass., until 1985 when she moved to Pembroke.

She attended Northbridge, Mass., schools.

She was an assembler at the former General Electric Telechron plant in Ashland, Mass., for many years. She retired in 1974.

She was a member of Saint Patrick's Church in Whitinsville, Mass. She enjoyed knitting and reading.

She was predeceased by her husband, Leo Petrie.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Williams, with whom she lived, and two grandchildren.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

A funeral will be held Saturday morning from the Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill St., Whitinsville, Mass., followed by a Mass at 11 a.m. in Saint Peter's Church, Northbridge, Mass.

Burial will be in Saint Patrick's Cemetery, Whitinsville, Mass.

John D. Rogan, AUBURN, Mass.

Wednesday, April 28, 1999

AUBURN, Mass. - John D. Rogan, the father of an area resident, died April 16 in University of Massachusetts Hospital, Worcester, Mass., after an illness.

He was born in Spencer, Mass., the son of William and Anna (Dorr) Rogan, and lived there before moving to Auburn, Mass., in 1995.

He graduated from David Prouty High School in Spencer, Mass., and Boston School of Anatomy & Embalming.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, where he saw combat in France, Germany and Belgium.

He was a funeral director for 50 years. He was a funeral director at Rogan Funeral Home in Spencer, Mass., for more than 35 years. He joined his father in the business and later became a partner with his brother before retiring and closing the business in 1989.

He also worked at Athy Memorial Home in Worcester, Mass., from 1948 through 1960. He also worked at the Worcester County Court house from 1977 to 1989. He continued to work part time at several Worcester area funeral homes until his recent retirement.

He was a member of North American Martyrs Church and a former member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Spencer, Mass., as well as a member and former grand knight of Spencer Council 118, Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the 749th Tank Battalion Association, Gaudette-Kirk Post No. 138, American Legion, in Spencer, Mass., and a member and former district director of the Spencer Exchange Club.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary (Kirvin) Rogan; two daughters, Kathleen Whitty of Tulsa, Okla., and Maureen Heath of Concord; a twin brother, William Rogan Jr. of Paxton, Mass.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concord Hospital Child Care Center, 250 Pleasant St., Concord 03301.

The Athy Memorial Home, Worcester, Mass., was in charge of arrangements.

Florence E. Zimmer, FRANKLIN

Wednesday, April 28, 1999

FRANKLIN - Florence "Florie" E. Zimmer, 98, a resident of Mountain Ridge Health Care Center, Genesis ElderCare in Franklin, died there yesterday.

She was born in Paterson, N.J., the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Boeglin) Gilg. She lived in Fairlawn, N.J., and moved to New Hampshire in 1981 to live with her son at the Pasquaney Inn on Newfound Lake, Bridgewater. She later moved to Franklin.

She attended business school and later was a bookkeeper for several years in an office of a coal and masonary material dealer in New Jersey. She was also a homemaker.

She was a member of the Cedar Cliff Methodist Church in Haledon, N.J., and was a 75-year member, an officer and later a chaplain of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 224 in Little Falls, N.J. While in New Jersey, she was also active with the YWCA.

She enjoyed crotcheting, sewing and making afghans.

She was predeceased by her husband, C. Alfred Zimmer.

Survivors include a son, Roy Zimmer of Bridgewater; a daughter, Doris MacRae of Bangor, Maine; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be tomorrow from 2 to 4 p.m. in the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Rd., Tilton, with Eastern Star services during calling hours by members of the Ionic-Ragged Mountain Chapter No. 20, Order of Eastern Star of Franklin.

A prayer service will be held during calling hours with the Rev. Carol Cray, pastor of the Franklin United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be Friday in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Paterson, N.J.

Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Raymond A. Clemens, FRANKLIN

Wednesday, April 28, 1999

FRANKLIN - Raymond A. Clemens, 68, of West Bow Street, died yesterday at Concord Hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Meriden, Conn., the son of Arthur and Mabel (Johnson) Clemens. He grew up in South Meriden, Conn.

From 1956 to 1970 he lived in Bristol, Conn., before moving to Salisbury in 1970. He had been a resident of Franklin since 1975.

He was formerly employed by Surrette America Battery, Acme Staple, Insulfab Plastics and Stanley Tool.

He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening.

He was a member of the Baptist Church of Franklin since 1980.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Virginia (Mussey) Clemens of Franklin; a son, James Clemens of Franklin; a daughter, Martha Bracy of Tilton; two grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Bishop of Southington, Conn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the Baptist Church of Franklin, with the Rev. Robert Washer, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Maplewood Cemetery, Salisbury.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 309 Pine St., Manchester 03103.

H.L. Young & Company Memorial Home, Franklin, is in charge of arrangements.
